I hope this chapter one day after the last one makes up for my late update. I had to find my own fanfiction through dozens of others just to remember how I made my authors' note. I guess the moral is you can know a lot about a fandom but doesn't guarantee you'll write a good fanfiction. Thank you and have a nice day.
Litten shot a flurry of fire that was basically his spittle. Gumshoos took the hit. Once the fire from Litten's mouth dissipated, Gumshoos mawled at Litten with sharp long fangs from his Super Fang attack.
'There's no way Litten and Rattata can take down Gumshoos when he has that much power.' Logan thought, resisting the urge mentally to grind his teeth from the stress. Than, after hearing his heart pulsate in his head, an idea popped up. 'Unless we weaken him.'
Just then, a Yungoos showed up hissing at Litten. This did not deter Logan.
"Litten, use Growl!"
Litten unleashed a loud screeching noise, this move made Gumshoos weaker but not petrify him. He once again used Bite while his partner used Scary Face.
"Litten, Growl again!"
Litten roared again weakening Gumshoos who immediately used another Bite followed by Yungoos using Scary Face.
"Litten, return." Logan shot a beam at Litten sucking him back into his PokéBall. "Time for you to get out there, Rattata!"
His purple ridged mouse appeared and was bombarded by Gumshoos jumping in and mauling into her back. Yungoos this time raised his back up preparing to use Bide.
"Rattata, use Growl on Gumshoos!"
Rattata roared in a way that made its purple fur vibrate. Instead of Bite Gumshoos used Leer on Rattata. Yungoos prepared Bide.
"Rattata, return! Go Litten!"
Litten was out, so Gumshoos used Super Fang halving his already tiny health. Yungoos tried to unleash the Bide but to no effect; he had to be damaged first.
"Litten, use Ember on Yungoos!"
Litten fired a volley of fireball-spittle that rushed into Yungoos. It winced but not flinched (there was a difference), when Gumshoos used Super Fang again and Yungoos used Scary Face, which was like trying it all over again on Litten since he switched him out.
"Litten, use Ember on Yungoos!"
Litten fired, Yungoos was sent backwards where it laid sprawled on the floor, fainted. Logan and Litten felt a little better about all their hard work beating Yungoos until Gumshoos used Bite, and this one was a critical hit depleting the remainder of Litten's health.
"Litten, come back buddy." The fainted Litten returned to his PokéBall. Logan believed Litten inside could see he was smiling at him. "We'll win the next one, buddy. Now, come on out Rattata."
Rattata made her appearance this time now bombarded, it was Logan's turn to make a move.
"Rattata, use Quick Attack on Gumshoos!"
Rattata moved so fast it seemed as if she teleported before plowing into Gumshoos. He retaliated against her using Scary Face.
'That move doesn't do anything if all I use is Quick Attack.'
"Rattata, use Quick Attack!"
Rattata once again plowed into Gumshoo with the tip of her nose as powerful as a bamboo stick hurtled from the top of a tower, barely scathing Gumshoos.
"How does Gumshoos have such strong Defense?" Logan asked outloud.
"I forgot to tell you," said llima. "Most Totem Pokémon come with a stat boost during the battle. Gumshoos is a defense boost plus one."
Logan pondered his next movies:
'Rattata can use Tail Whip to lower his defense but she's a lower level so Quick Attack couldn't finish him in one hit no matter how much defense I lower. That and he can use Super Fang or Leer to lower Rattata's HP or defense to the point just one Bite could finish her off. I'll just have to rely on luck for this.'
"Rattata, use Quick Attack!"
Rattata sped towards Gumshoos before throttling into his right side. He retaliated using Super Fang on her.
"Rattata, use Quick Attack!"
She skyrocketed up until she delivered a nose-uppercut on his chin causing him to black out for a few seconds, but he was still standing. And—after that he used Leer on her.
'This is it. If he uses Bite next...Rattata is finished.'
"Rattata, use Quick Attack!"
Rattata had to inhale and exhale because she wasn't a Pokémon with the innate ability to fight without getting exhausted. Nevertheless, she dashed, stumbled a little from not all her quadruples being in good health, and plowed into Gumshoos. He didn't fall, now Logan awaited what could be Gumshoos final attack:
He used Super Fang biting hard causing Rattata to scream and shiver but she could still stand after he stopped thrashing her around like a toy.
'Rattata isn't going to survive if I cannot finish Gumshoos with this next attack.'
Rattata tried to stand, but from the scrap on her left side and the dirt turning her trickle of blood into a jam smear, he wasn't too optimistic. He had one hope: encouraging her.
"Rattata, I believe in you. Now let's try using Quick Attack one last time!"
There was now a flare in her eyes as she stood on her four legs. She roared, she kicked the dirt with her back-legs, and finally she charged as fast as she could towards Gumshoos.
Gumshoos was dumbfounded by this new vigor burning an aura around her every flitting second. He was finally plowed, plowed like a Wailord just headbutted him, splaying his arms where she hit him, and collapse on the ground.
Logan couldn't believe his luck thinking this was just a gist used to show him how a Totem Pokémon couldn't be knocked down that easily, until llima walked up to the Gumshoos and fed it a tiny prism looking gummie. After Gumshoos and also Yungoos started to move again he walked with a big smile on his face and shook his hand.
"Congratulations. You have just finished the first trial. Not only did you complete it...you've done it so beautifully I just couldn't believe my eyes. You've earned a Z-Crystal Normalium Z for your hard work...and have completed the first step to challenging the PokéLeague."
