Hola amigos! Here is this month's chapter. Hope you enjoy this one as well like you have the previous ones. By the way, my first language is not English so I hope my dearest readers would understand and overlook some minor faults.
|Chapter 5|
13th August, 1983; Unplotable land – Black Ancestral Castle.
It had been an incredibly tiring day. After the Will Reading was completed, Harry had become immensely quiet, while Sirius and Azalea had managed to keep a tight control of their emotions by the skin of their teeth. Azalea could because she had been utilizing her Occulumency barriers the entire day, while Sirius had been forced to utilize his barriers during his stint in Azkaban, if he did not wish to go completely mad. McGonagall had been crying bitterly and even Madame Longbottom had shed a tear or two. Remus had also been crying without making any noise. Griphook had given the group some time to centre themselves so they could carry out the rest of the business.
It was nearly evening when all of them had left the confines of the building which constituted the bank of the Wixen Britain. Sirius had called Tillie to escort them to the Black Castle. Harry was feeling immensely sleepy, yet he stayed awake clinging to Remus. Azalea was feeling way too tired and completely drained out, while Sirius was in no position to be able to carry a child properly as he just got out of Azkaban in the morning. So Remus had simply picked up Harry from Azalea and clung to him for the rest of their time in Gringrotts.
All three adults and a child got teleported to Black Castle by the house – elf. A team of five members alongside Lord Black were there all ready. New people present seemed to have made Harry rouse slightly from his sleepy state. Remus cradled him a bit gently, protective instincts going haywire as the wolf within him recognized the extra people as prospective threats. Sirius tensed as well but he placed an arm on Remus's shoulder stopping him from growling and snarling protectively.
Azalea whispered softly to Remus, "Calm down please. They are the ICW team." Remus and Sirius both gave a slight nod at her words, while Harry looked curiously with tired green eyes.
They approached towards them. Azalea nodded tiredly at the ICW team as she asked, "All clear?"
The leader of the team, wearing the ICW Black robes with a mask covering half their faces, approached her bowing, "All clear Director. May we be allowed to leave?"
"Not yet. Take this Operative Hyena." Azalea passed the iron box to the leader.
Operative Hyena asked curiously looking at the box, "Director?"
"Be very careful when you open it. It's a Hocrux."
The leader nodded, "The usual procedures?"
"Yes. I want you to report after a week. Will this be enough or do you need more time?"
"No mam. This will be fine. May we leave?" asked Operative Hyena.
"Merry part, Hyena" She dismissed them.
After they left Sirius asked, "There is a usual procedure?"
Azalea gave a weak smirk, "Believe it or not, Tom wasn't the first one to make multiple Hocruxes."
"I rather not know." answered Sirius distaste clear in his face. Remus looked disgusted at the thought while Arcturus was a bit shocked that anyone could mutilate their soul.
"It is a bit hard to belief." muttered Remus, while Azalea commented, "Wixen kind can do almost anything for their ambitions Remus; especially with the power available to them in the form of their magic."
"Well said, Lady Ravenclaw." Arcturus spoke, grey eyes roaming over their tired faces, "I can see that all of you are tired. Please go ahead and take some rest. I will not indulge in any formality now. "
Azalea and Remus nodded not caring about formalities. He looked at Sirius saying, "You could add them to the wards tomorrow. I will be here after lunch for a meeting with you; Merry part, Sirius." Sirius nodded at that, bowing slightly "Merry part, Grandfather." Tillie ushered them inside the huge gates after Lord Black apparated himself out.
14th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle – Guest Room.
The sunlight peeked through the window, falling on the occupant sleeping on the queen sized mahogany bed. Pale Eyelids slowly opened exposing brilliant sapphire eyes to the world. Pale arms slowly removed the duvet, as Azalea sat up. A yawn escaped her, as she looked around the room she was staying in.
It was a large room with a wooden polished floor. The mahogany queen sized wooden bed took to the centre of the room, covered in midnight blue sheets and white and light blue pillows. The headboard had beautiful carved motifs, giving it a rich and royal look which she loved. It had four posters with white silk curtains swaying slightly at the breeze coming through the half opened window. There was a soft and fluffy dark blue rug in the room matching the decor. It took most of the space on the floor, almost hiding the cool wooden floor. The ceiling was painted to showcase the night sky. The stars painted there sparkled like real stars. A fireplace had smoke trickling from it as the dying embers cooled down. Two white classic luxury couches decorated with the same carved motifs as the headboard and adorned with dark blue pillows constituted the seating area in the room. Two dark blue curtains swayed slightly by the half opened window. Azalea got down from the bed, her feet taking in the comfort the soft rug provided. She smiled a bit as she opened the window completely and allowed the bright sunlight to illuminate the room. She smiled at the view of the sprawling garden. She liked the room. It was simple and sober without excess of furniture, though she could do without the excess of blue in the room. She estimated it was around nine in the morning. She had never gotten up so late before. She must have underestimated her tiredness yesterday. She had no idea when she slept last night as the only thing she remembered was crying and letting her Occulumency walls down. She winced slightly at the remembrance, the grief still fresh in her mind. She breathed in a bit as she created the barriers again within her mind, so she could function properly rather than wallowing in grief.
She looked at the two wooden carved doors in the room and opened one. It led to a huge walk-in-closet. Three full length mirrors adorned the center wall. The right and left walls had empty built in racks for clothes and shoes. A medium sized armoire held unlimited space to hang clothes as well as various drawers. Beside the mirrors, there was a beautifully carved table featuring the same motifs that was present throughout the room with drawers and a matching cushioned chair to sit down. She closed the door to the room since she had no use of it now. All her clothes were at the headquarters. She opened the other door and was met with an elaborate bathroom. It had wooden tiles with skylights. A shower curtain concealed an area for shower. It also had a small pool and adjacent to it was a shower cabinets and as well as a counter consisting of drawers and sinks, all wooden. She can see runes within the motifs which kept the wood from decaying.
Azalea looked around curiously as she went inside the bathroom, her eyes taking in the elaborate motif works on all kind of furniture present in the room. She opened the cabinets to find it stocked with fluffy and soft towels and some range of shampoos and soaps.
She softly called, "Tillie?"
"Yes, Miss?" answered Tillie as she stood before her with a pop. She had a clean tea towel wrapped around her as a dress with the Black crest stitched on it.
Azalea asked, "Is everyone up?"
Tillie answered, "No Miss. Master Sirius is still sleeping. Master Harry has woken up and is with Mr Remus. They already had breakfast."
Azalea nodded, "I see. Thank you."
Tillie bowed before she left with a pop.
Azalea came back into the room and noticed the shopping bag Arianna had left for her. Thankfully, one of them had a set of clothes for her. Usually she would have worn a formal pant suit since she is always at headquarters. Today, she did not have that excuse. She took out the clothes to see what Arianna had left her. She blinked at the black pleated skirt, white full sleeved blouse and white stockings along with black pumps. There was also a set of black lacy lingerie. She had an amused tilt to her lips at the colour choice. There was also a hairbrush, a black rubber band, a cherry lip balm and a moisturizer.
She opened the bathroom door, locked it and placed her clothes on the hangings. She opened the shower curtain and decided for a quick shower rather than a soak on the bath. She was already running late. She chose a soft rose scented shampoo which was similar to her own and a sandalwood soap for now. She needed to write a list for the shopping they would be doing soon.
After thoroughly washing and cleaning herself and her hair, she stepped out from the shower area, with a towel wrapped over her hair. The slight droplets of water disappeared the moment she stepped out making her dry. She blinked before throwing a wandless detection charm. A drying charm was woven in the shower curtain for convenience sake. She slowly opened her hair noticing that it was completely dry. She bit her lower lip, as she really did not like using drying charms on her hair, preferring to let it dry naturally. She shook the matter off, noting to speak regarding it to someone.
She dressed herself quickly and combed through her long dark red hair slowly letting it fall into its natural wavy state. She deftly put it up in a high ponytail and used the cherry lip balm across her lips. She came out of the bathroom completely dressed and ready. She folded her clothes and kept it in the bag as she had fallen asleep in her pantsuit last night. She took the bag and came out of the room.
Her room opened into the main hallway. She remembered being told that this wing of the castle belonged to the Head of House and his immediate family and friends. She looked around the hallway, which had beautiful painted walls and the same wooden flooring. Tall flower vases had beautiful fresh flowers spreading their fragrance. This hallway had five doors. The center room was Sirius's. Opposite Azalea's was Harry's room. Remus took the room beside his. The room beside Azalea's was empty. This hallway can be accessed by a spiral staircase. Azalea decided she could explore this wing later. She called, "Tillie?"
"Yes Miss?" asked Tillie, as she appeared.
"Can you please show me where Remus and Harry are?"
"Yes Miss. Please follow me."
Azalea followed Tillie down the spiral staircase. It reached down to the main living room which was decorated with silver grey baroque styled velvet sofa set around a fireplace. It had French windows which showed the sprawling garden outside, where a beautiful patio was built. She can see the silhouette of two figures sitting there.
Harry had turned around the moment he heard heels clicking on the floor, while Remus looked up at the new arrival. Brilliant green eyes widened as Harry got down and approached her cautiously. Azalea did not let the smile fall from her lips at the skittish behaviour, though she was cursing Petunia in her mind.
"Good morning Harry, Remus!" greeted Azalea as she knelt down in front of Harry. Harry smiled back and muttered shyly, "Good morning Auntie Lea!"
Remus gave her small grin too though his eyes looked tired. He greeted back, "Good morning Azalea! Had a goodnight sleep?"
Azalea tilted her head a bit at that question, "Yes, but I fell asleep late." She got up from the kneeling position, picked Harry up who wrapped his arms around her neck and sat down on one of the armchairs. She placed Harry beside her with a small smile.
Remus nodded understanding, his eyes also having the vestiges of deep grief. Azalea slowly ruffled Harry's hair, noticing he wore new clothes. She asked, "Did you have your breakfast Harry?"
Harry nodded enthusiastically, "Yes auntie. I had an omelette and a full glass of milk. It was very tasty."
Azalea smiled at his enthusiasm, "And the potion?"
Harry nodded back, "It wasn't tasty though." Azalea chuckled, "Yes it isn't. But it will make you strong and healthy, so you must continue having it."
Harry replied with a small smile, "Yes auntie."
Tillie interrupted, "Miss, what would you like for breakfast?"
Azalea hummed, "Some toast, an omelette and some fruits please."
Tillie nodded and disappeared to get the food.
Remus initiated a conversation, "You said you had work today?"
Azalea looked at him from watching Harry play with some soft toys – a wolf, a black dog and a stag. She answered, "Yes. I will be leaving for headquarters after breakfast; should be back for lunch I guess."
Remus hummed, "Your work must be very taxing. I have once heard from Lily that you were the youngest head in History."
Azalea nodded, "I am and it is taxing. But since I am the head, it is rare I will go for field jobs. If it's a very serious matter, I will have to go. Mostly, it's paperwork. By the way, from where did those toys come?"
Remus gave a small sad smile, "They are his. He used to play with those when he was a babe. I had them with me."
"Oh!"
Just then Azalea's breakfast arrived on the table with two bowls of fruit and a tea tray.
Azalea took her plate, while Remus handed Harry his bowl of fruit.
"I will have to finish them?" he asked looking at Remus and Azalea, blinking his bright eyes.
Azalea nodded at him while Remus answered, "Yes cub. You will have to finish that bowl."
Azalea quickly finished her omelette while Remus prepared his own tea. He asked, "Tea, Azalea?"
Azalea gave a small smile, "No, thank you. Fruit and tea doesn't go well."
Remus nodded agreeing.
"Who did Harry sleep with last night?" asked Azalea, as she kept her plate down and picked up her fruit bowl.
"He slept with me. Why?" asked Remus, raising an eyebrow.
Azalea chewed her food before speaking, "Nothing. It's just I think we all need to have a in-depth talk. We three are the closest adults in his life now."
Remus hummed, his eyes conveying grief at the prospect making Azalea give him a sad smile, "Indeed. Though I don't think I would be able to mix with him much."
Azalea's brows furrowed, "Why not?" Remus shrugged not answering. Azalea observed the sandy haired man, eyes lingering on the scars that can be seen through his worn robes.
"Are you a werewolf?" asked Azalea bluntly. Remus jerked straight at the question, his eyes widening.
"How do you know?" said Sirius, as he came up to them to stand beside Remus's seat. His eyes sharpening at the question asked. Harry smiled at him, oblivious to the two men's tensed posture while his aunt was relaxed as she munched on her fruits.
"Remus is not the first werewolf I have met, so please calm down." assured Azalea softly with a gentle smile at Remus.
"Not the first?" asked Remus confusion swimming in his chocolate orbs.
"Nope." Azalea popped the 'p' as she spoke casually. "How?" demanded Sirius, posture still tensed. Azalea sighed as she looked up meeting the eyes of Heir Black, "Did you forget my job, Black?"
"Oh." said Sirius, as he finally calmed down, while Remus also slumped down in his chair.
Sirius sat down beside him, his grey eyes red-rimmed and tired. His posture which was tense before was now completely relaxed as he sank down on the comfortable armchair.
"Good morning everyone." He greeted softly, his eyes lingering on Azalea, a slight apology in his eyes at his defensive behaviour. Azalea simply gave a small understanding smile back as she focused on her fruits.
"Good morning Paddy!" greeted back Harry with a small blinding smile. Sirius smiled at his godson, "How did you sleep with Uncle Moony last night?"
"Very well." replied Harry with a bright smile at Remus, who reached out to ruffle his already messy hair.
"Did you take your potion, pup?"
Harry nodded munching on his fruit, "Yes Paddy." Sirius smiled, "What are you having now then pup?"
"Fruits. Wolfie says I have to finish all of it." he said pouting a bit.
Azalea smiled seeing her nephew relaxed, while Sirius laughed, "Well, I can't go against that." Remus added fake sternly, "You shouldn't either."
Azalea chuckled at their antics, while Tillie appeared, "Master Black, what would you like for breakfast?"
Sirius leaned back, "Feeling like having pancakes, Tillie. Please get me a cup of black coffee first."
Tillie nodded and disappeared. Azalea kept her fruit bowl down finished with her food. Sirius raised an eyebrow, "Already done with breakfast?"
"Yup. I have to go to work soon." replied Azalea. Sirius nodded at that, remembering she spoke about it yesterday at the bank. Azalea turned to Harry who was eating the fruits with single minded concentration, "Harry?"
"Yes Auntie?" Harry looked up at his aunt. Azalea smiled, "I will have to leave now. I will be back soon, okay?"
Harry blinked, tears coming to his eyes, "You are leaving me?"
Azalea's eyes widened at the tears while Remus and Sirius straightened. Azalea nodded negatively, "No sweetheart. I am going to work and will be back by lunch. How about you enjoy with your Uncle Paddy and Uncle Moony till then?"
Harry's lips quivered as he hugged her tentatively, "You will be back?"
"I promise."
Azalea gave a glance at the males asking them through her eyes to help. Sirius gave a slight nod as he said, "Pup, do you not want to spend time with us?" Harry immediately nodded a 'no'.
"Why are you sad then? Your auntie Lea would be back soon." said Sirius.
"Okay. Be back soon Auntie Lea." Harry wiped his tears which had spilled unknowingly from his eyes, separating from his aunt. Azalea smiled, "Of-course, nephew. I will be back before you know it." She kissed his forehead, getting a watery smile in return.
Azalea got up from her seat, nodding at Sirius and Remus. Sirius also stood up, "Tillie will get you to the apparition point. I will add you and Remus to the ward after lunch. Will that be alright with you?"
Azalea nodded, "It will be fine. Thank you." She followed Tillie after that, waving at Harry and Remus.
14th August, 1983 – Unknown Island, ICW Headquarters; Imperial Security Tower – Azalea's office.
Azalea lounged lazily on her chair behind the desk with a file in her hand. Rickson had sent the reports of the trial to her, though he himself was on a much needed break. Adrian had also sent over the reports of Azkaban being overhauled. She speed read the files and signed it just as much as efficiently.
"Lydia?"
"Yes mam?" her secretary answered.
"Send Arianna in please and these files are completed. Have the Record Keeper file it in Britain's section in the Record Room."
"On it, mam." replied Lydia, as she took the files.
A knock sounded on the door after a few minutes. Azalea called out softly, "Come in!"
"You called mam?" asked Arianna as she entered the office.
Azalea straightened, "Yes I did. Take a seat." Arianna sat.
Azalea continued, "I need you to take lead of the Azkaban matters in Wixen Britain. Make sure that the prison also works as a rehabilitation center. Create a draft of our plans and send it to me when you are done. The prisoners have been moved to Nurmengard. Keep an eye on them. I wish to visit the prison once, before any plans are finalized for the overhaul. If you need to visit Azkaban to make a plan, inform Lydia. She will deliver the message to me."
Arianna nodded negatively, "No mam. I will make a draft first and then visit. That way I can change anything if needed and have a base to build on."
Azalea agreed, "As you wish." She took a deep breath and asked, "I want a verbal report of what you found in Petunia's home."
Ariana's face turned into a grimace at the topic. She met Azalea's sapphire eyes as she reported, "According to the investigation of their home, it has been found that it has four bedrooms, an attic, a leaving room, a common bathroom and a kitchen. Petunia and Vernon shared a room, which has an adjoined bathroom. Their son Dudley had his own room. One room was a guest room which Vernon's sister Marge Drusley stayed in during her visits. It left another room which could have been turned into a bedroom for Harry; instead it was used as junk place, since all broken toys of Dudley was found there. Petunia Drusley kept Harry in a cupboard under the stairs which was primarily used for keeping cleaning supplies. A small cot with a thread bare blanket along with a rickety cradle was found there."
Azalea's clasped hands had turned white as the report ended. She took in a shuddering breath trying to calm herself down.
"Is Operative Raven back from his mission?"
"No mam. He will arrive tomorrow." answered Arianna.
"You are dismissed."
Arianna nodded and left. Azalea immediately got up from her chair, tidied up her table and took the small bag which consisted of her small amount of casual clothes. She had not taken her training clothes and formal uniform. She decided to purge on a wardrobe since it has been a while since she enjoyed life outside of training and missions. Her apartment had been warded tight and locked down completely.
She walked out of her office as she saw Lydia sitting on the receptionist desk. Lydia looked up, "Mam?"
"I will be leaving now. I will also be unavailable for a week or two. Report to Commander Rickson from now. Unless it is a very serious matter, do not contact me." said Azalea, voice soft yet firm.
Lydia nodded, "Yes mam."
14th August, 1983; Unplotable Land – Black Ancestral Castle.
Sirius just managed to put Harry for a nap, promising to stay by his side when he felt the wards announce the arrival of Azalea. His brows furrowed as he checked the time. It wasn't even lunch time yet. He wondered why she was back early.
"Moony?"
Remus hummed in response, as he focused his chocolate orbs on grey. His head coming out of the book he was reading. Sirius said, "Azalea is back early. I am going to check. Be here, please." Remus nodded, "Of-course."
Sirius came down to the entrance living hall at the right time to see her entering. He felt something was up as the sapphire eyes of Azalea were vacant and cold.
"Is everything alright?" he asked cautiously. Azalea turned to Sirius as she heard his voice. Ignoring his question she asked, "Is there any training or dueling room here Black?"
Sirius looked bewildered but nodded, "There is."
"Okay. Tillie!" she called softly. Tillie appeared, "You called?"
"Yes. Will you please place this bag on the bed of my room? Do not open it." requested Azalea. Tillie nodded and left.
"Can you show me please." said Azalea looking at Sirius who had watched the entire exchange, barely holding on to any semblance of calm.
"Follow me." answered Sirius, as he turned to lead her to the dueling room near the basement.
He opened the room after using a bit of blood at the emblem of the Black crest carved on the massive black iron doors.
"Here it is." announced Sirius, as he entered followed by Azalea, who looked around noticing training dummies littering the room in the center which was lined by a red circle. The right wall was completely dedicated to various weapons from swords, axes to battle fans. A stage was placed on the extreme left. There was another door within the room, but Azalea ignored that.
She went straight towards the circled area.
"Can you start it please? And make sure it's on the highest level." said Azalea, as she folded the sleeves of her blouse.
Sirius blinked, "Alright, but I should warn you that this room is technically meant for a Black. All of the Blacks were known for being battle mages. War is in our blood."
Azalea turned her head towards him, her eyes piercing, "And I have done nothing but faced war continuously for the past seven years, Heir Black."
Sirius raised his eyebrows startled but nodded, "As you wish. Tell me when to stop it. On the other hand, are you going to duel in those?" He gestured at her earlier dress of skirt and shirt.
Azalea nodded curtly, "Yes."
Sirius trailed off, "Okaay-"
Sirius started the simulation of the room and set the level to the highest as he sat down to watch from the inbuilt stands. Azalea entered the ring and the shields went up before turning transparent. A red light came towards her immediately only for it to swatted by a bare hand. She attacked, moved, dodged, and flipped with an innate grace of a feline.
One two three – many dummies were destroyed; some completely blown off, some losing their hands or legs or head. She fired spells after spells in rapid succession – not a wand in sight.
After twenty minutes of absolute carnage of dummies, Azalea's voice yelled out, "Stop!"
Sirius stopped the simulation immediately. The shield disappeared as Azalea came out, completely soaked with sweat making her white shirt clung to her curves. Her hair was in complete disarray though it was still in a tight ponytail. She absentmindedly conjured a towel, wiping her face and neck with; a huff of breath escaping her.
"That was quiet some fight." commented Sirius, grey eyes trailing the soaked shirt and ruffled skirt. His voice seems to have bought Azalea out of her stupor as she flushed at being caught in a less then presentable state. Sirius gave an amused smirk at her obvious embarrassment. She quickly composed herself muttering a quick freshening charm by waving her hand. Her soaked shirt became right as rain while her hair also straightened itself. Azalea sighed as she banished the towel and neared where he was sitting taking a seat beside him. Sirius raised an eyebrow, "Everything alright?"
"Not really. You never saw the list did you?"
"Which list?" asked a confused Sirius. Azalea turned to look at him in the eyes, "Harry's injury list." Sirius frowned, "No I didn't. Why?"
Azalea answered feeling the vestiges of anger starting to brew again, "That list consisted of severe case of malnutrition, cracked rib, multiple bruises and a slight fever."
As she continued to count the injuries, Sirius temper rose. His impulsive nature and blind anger again reared their head. He got up and was about to walk towards the door, when Azalea held his wrist stopping him, "Where are you going?"
Sirius looked down at her, meeting her jewel eyes, "To murder her."
"No." Azalea glared at him when he snarled at her trying to tug his wrist free, only for her to tighten her grip, "Stop behaving like a raving lunatic Black! I did not free you only for you to get thrown back into prison. You are again making the same mistake."
"Not trying to kill her will be a huge mistake." snarled a furious Sirius.
Azalea sighed before using a soft tone understanding his feelings yet being firm, "Black don't you dare force me to stupefy you. Sit down now and listen for Circe's sake!"
Sirius took a deep breath, especially when Azalea tightened her grip even more as if thinking he was going to make a run. He tried to control his overflowing feelings of rage as he gracefully sat on his seat.
"Speak." Sirius did not care if was sounding rude.
Azalea ignored his tone, but did not relent her hold on him as she spoke, "Today, I asked for a report on the case regarding the Dursleys and Harry. I found out that even though there was a room available for Harry to stay in, Petunia..." Azalea hissed out the name, taking a deep breath to continue, "I am ashamed to say she has blood relation with me and Lily. Anyway, she kept Harry in the cupboard under the stairs. The Officers reported that a cot, a thread bare blanket alongside a rickety cradle was found there."
Sirius's grey eyes started to darken into steel as he struggled to leash his magic. Azalea took in a ragged breath at feeling the dark, magnetic and seductive magic rolling off Sirius. Sirius wasn't looking at her though; rather he was looking at the floor. He spoke, voice dark and calm, "Even now will you stop me?"
"Yes." She whispered softly.
He snapped his neck to look at her so fast she was amazed that a bone did not crack. His steel eyes seem to hide some hidden power within him. His leash over his magic was slowly degrading as the seductive dark magic slowly filled the room.
He spoke barely above a whisper, his one word was coated with his magic, "Why?"
Azalea shuddered though not uncomfortable, before stabilizing herself. She reminded herself that Sirius wasn't well. He just got out of Azkaban yesterday. Hence, she needed to be calm and collected about this. She also tried to ignore the seductive magic filing the room.
"The Dursleys are already in custody of the Non – magicals. This case will be handled by squibs – agents of ICW. We can visit them and you are more than welcomed to curse them but you can't kill them and neither can a drop of blood be shed."
Sirius snarled, "Why can't I kill them off?"
Azalea said calmly, "Harry needs his godfather here NOT in prison for killing his aunt and uncle."
"No one would know." Sirius argued, leashing his magic again consciously. Apparently the mention of Harry has made him see sense. Azalea let go of his hand, trusting him to behave.
"Sometime Sirius, being alive turns out to be the biggest curse. People like my eldest sister and her husband – they thrive in good reputation and social image. They thrive in being boring and normal. You are more than welcomed to curse them but Harry needs you more. Petunia and Vernon isn't as important as Harry. Control your temper or let it loose. We are in the dueling room, after all."
Sirius clenched his fist but gave a sharp nod. He got up suddenly striding towards the middle to let out his anger.
14th August, 1983; Black Ancestral Castle – Head of House Office Room.
Sirius lounged on the armchair with black leather upholstery and carved gold slide frame facing Arcturus. The room itself was tastefully decorated, giving off an intimidated feeling for those who aren't a Black. A baroque style high back throne chair with black leather upholstery and gold frame was placed in the middle of the room, on which his Grandfather sat with a straight back. His elbows rested on the richly carved mahogany table before him, with his fingers laced together. Behind him mounted on the wall was the crest of the House Black. His grey eyes observing his grandson quietly; neither speaking yet.
Sirius forced himself not to fidget as he looked around the spacious room to divert his own attention; it has been a while since he had been here. A huge French window on the right had beautiful silver grey curtains which led to an open balcony. On the left there was huge bookcase filled with various books, some old some new. Two black leather ornate couches with gold frame surrounded the brick fireplace with a carved coffee table in the middle. Other than the Black crest on the center wall of the room, there were no other paintings or hangings on any of the walls. The walls had wood tiles than marble and so was the flooring. A huge silver grey rug was placed where the seating area was. The entire theme of the room was black, gold and silver grey.
"Sirius." spoke Arcturus, bringing his eldest grandson's attention to him. Sirius straightened from where he was lounging almost immediately. Arcturus gave him an approving look, "How have you been?"
"Alright, I suppose. Why?" asked Sirius, brows furrowing.
"I taped into the Family Magic to check on you. You were releasing your magic sometime back, correct?"
Sirius blinked a bit but nodded positively. Arcturus hummed, "What had you so furious?"
Sirius clenched his jaw at the reminder, "Some information regarding Harry's previous living accommodation."
"I see." Arcturus nodded, "Is Heir Potter fairing well in the new surroundings?"
Sirius gave a thoughtful nod, "I think so. He mostly has been sleeping, eating and sometimes playing for a while."
Arcturus spoke hiding his displeasure behind his pureblood mask, "Your mother and father had contacted me."
"Why are you informing me?"
"Well, they had asked about you."
Sirius scoffed, "Right and I am supposed to believe that?"
Arcturus gave a stern glare, "Yes."
Sirius sighed, "What do you want me to do?"
"Speak with them."
"What?!" Sirius almost yelled.
Arcturus explained calmly, "Yes, even if you do not care for them, they are still your family members. As the next Head of the Family, it is your duty to keep them in line."
Sirius blinked at that, he asked in a confused tone "You want me to speak to them to keep them in line?"
"Why else will you speak with them?" asked Arcturus with a raised eyebrow.
Sirius did not answer while Arcturus advised, "Speak with them only when you become the Head."
"Regarding that, when do I have to take the Headship?" asked Sirius with a reluctant voice.
"How is your health at the moment, magic wise?" asked Arcturus, instead of answering immediately.
Sirius blinked at the question, "Well, I am alright. I did just use my magic in the dueling room." He stopped a bit thoughtful, "Though, I won't say I am completely healed."
'I see. It would be preferable if you take the Headship tomorrow then."
Sirius was startled but he nodded, "I won't be calling a family meeting anytime soon, though."
"That is up to you. Though they will be notified of the change in Headship and will be awaiting a reunion. Do not make them wait more than a week."
Sirius agreed, thankful at not having to meet with his annoying family members immediately after he got the Headship, "Is that all, Grandfather?"
"Yes and no."
Sirius looked at him frowning at his non-answer. Arcturus gave a small smirk, "These are some of the books I want you to brush upon. You will be attending the Trials that will be held soon. It is best for you to be prepared."
Sirius eyes widened, understanding clear in his voice, "Bellatrix?"
Arcturus nodded, "Yes. You can take whatever decision you wish to regarding her. I will not interfere."
Sirius looked at the books in front of him, a thoughtful gaze in his grey eyes.
"Alright." he uttered softly.
"Though, I would suggest you to inform your decision to the family members before announcing it to the world. A united front is required to be presented within the Wizengamot." advised Arcturus.
"Of-course." agreed Sirius easily.
Arcturus got up from behind the desk, prompting Sirius to do the same, "I should get going."
Sirius decided to escort his Grandfather till the living hall.
Arcturus turned to face his grandson, a fond look in his face, "Remember my teachings and I know you will do well, Sirius."
"Thank you Grandfather." Sirius bowed in respect.
Arcturus smiled a bit, "Contact me if you are in need of advice. Merry part, Sirius."
"Merry part, Grandfather."
14th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle; Harry's Room.
Azalea slowly combed Harry's hair through her fingers, as he slept snuggled against her side. She was sitting leaning against the mahogany headboard with her legs stretched out while Harry slept at her side under the forest green duvet.
All four of them had lunch after Sirius had done thrashing the dummies. Thankfully Harry hadn't woken up in that time. Sirius had also added Remus, Harry and Azalea to the ward book, which allowed them entry and exit from the castle, while furiously striking a few of the previous entries. She hadn't questioned anything then but she was curious especially since Remus had given an understanding smile to Sirius who had simply grimaced in response.
"You seemed rather deep in thought, Azalea." commented Remus from his seat near the fireplace. He was lounging in a sofa with brown upholstery and silver carved frame.
Azalea shrugged, "Yea, just thinking something Remus."
Remus quirked an inquisitive eyebrow, "Something deep?"
Azalea gave a small grin, "Not really, just how much things have changed in a few hours." She looked down at Harry with a fond look as she continued to comb's Harry's hairs with her fingers.
"Yea, I suppose. It was a shock when you found out, ha?" murmured Remus softly.
"Yes, it was. I am missing her terribly." replied Azalea, her eyes not moving from Harry's face.
Remus did not answer but stared into the burning fireplace.
The door of the room opened as Sirius stepped inside the room. He was wearing a comfortable black trousers and a grey tee. She blinked at the tattoos that she can see on his arm. Sirius raised an eyebrow, watching Azalea staring at him unblinkingly. He gave a small amused smirk, "Like what you see?"
Remus chortled at the well used line wondering what Azalea would answer. Meanwhile Azalea rolled her eyes, "When did you get tattoos?"
Sirius stared at her in exasperation, "You were looking at my tattoos?"
Azalea gave him a blank look, "What did you think I was looking at?"
Remus bit the inside of his cheeks so he could stop himself from chuckling out loud. Sirius gave a side-eyed glare at Remus before coming forward to sit on the foot of the bed.
"He slept?" asked Sirius, looking at Harry. Azalea answered, "Yes, just a few moments back."
"Harry liked his room a lot. He wouldn't stop showing us everything." said Remus, a small smile on his lips. Sirius hummed happy, a soft smile playing on his lips as he looked at Harry.
"Moony, is your room to your liking?" asked Sirius turning to Remus who nodded, "Yea, it was nice!"
"Great! You, Azalea?"
Azalea pursed her lips, "Umm...can I change the colour a bit? And the shower curtains had charms on them. I want to cancel them. I hope you don't mind."
Sirius nodded, "Why not? It's yours. Do whatever you feel like with it."
"Thanks."
A few moments silence reigned before Remus prompted, "You wanted to discuss something, right Azalea?"
Azalea blinked a bit but gave an acknowledging nod prompting Sirius to straighten himself at the foot of the bed.
"About what?" he asked curiously.
Azalea stayed quiet, sapphire eyes flickering from one man to another. She gathered her thoughts before speaking, "How much do you two trust Dumbledore?"
Remus stiffened while Sirius frowned. Sirius answered, "If you had asked before all these, I would have answered positively. Now? It's a big no!"
Azalea hummed looking at Remus who muttered, "My cub will always be the most important for me."
"Then, why did you not check on Harry before Mr Lupin?" This time Azalea's voice was soft due to Harry sleeping beside her, but it held a tinge of reproach.
Remus looked shame faced while Sirius turned to face his only remaining best friend.
"Remus?" asked Sirius, confusion and perhaps a slight disappointment in his tone.
Remus did not meet any one of their eyes. He whispered, "Dumbledore said that Harry was in a safe place and it would be dangerous for anyone to visit him. I was already wallowing from grief at loosing James and Lily and then Sirius's supposed betrayal...I thought it would be better if I did not contact him especially since I was a werewolf. I did not know Azalea, I really did not."
"Moony!" sighed Sirius, as he got up to sit beside his friend, bringing him in an embrace.
Azalea looked at Remus and Sirius, watching how the sandy haired man broke down. She contemplated for a while giving an opportunity for the two men to talk amongst themselves.
"I do not trust Dumbledore at all." said Azalea all of a sudden, sapphire eyes fierce.
"Okay...What Dumbledore has to do with us?" asked a confused Remus, his chocolate eyes tired.
"Everything, Remus. Don't you see? How did Dumbledore know that James and Lily died? And he sent Hagrid there. Why? Sirius was there – that was understandable. And Hagrid – to reach from Hogwarts to Godric's Hollow, he had to leave early from there. How did he know when to leave and why was his destination Godric's Hollow? What was the Groundkeeper of Hogwarts doing at my sister's home the night she was murdered?"
Azalea's voice was suspicious while her gaze focused. Her mind was running various parallels side by side, discarding and creating new theories.
Sirius and Remus glanced at each other, the latter was thoughtful while the former was analyzing something.
"You know, he was the one who told Lily and James to go into hiding." said Sirius softly, grey eyes tracing the woman seating beside his godson.
Azalea's sapphire met his grey with a razor focus, "Why?"
Instead of Sirius, Remus answered, "Something about a prophecy which was heard by a Death eater. He never gave details. Other than James and Lily, Alice and Frank Longbottom also went into hiding. He said that it can pertain to both the babies."
"Interesting. This was during their pregnancies?" stated Azalea.
Remus nodded. Azalea considered the information discarding a few theories, "I will have the matter investigated discreetly."
A few moments of silence allowed the three adults to gather their thoughts. Sirius spoke, "Doesn't matter what happened. From now on, Harry should be our priority."
"Yea." agreed Azalea, looking down at her nephew's calm face.
Sirius said looking at Remus, "Now that I noticed, why didn't Alice get custody after my incarceration? And why was Madame Longbottom there instead of Alice and Frank?"
Remus shifted uneasily, "Well, Padfoot...umm...do you know how Bellatrix was captured?"
"No. I know she was captured because she was thrown alongside her husband and brother –in – law in the deepest cell in Azkaban, few cells away from mine. Why?"
Remus said softly, "Because she was captured on the account of having tortured Alice and Frank to insanity. They are currently in confined to an area of Magical Maladies at St. Mungo's Hospital. Bellatrix, Rodolphus, Rabastan and Barty Crouch Jr. were found torturing them for information regarding Voldemort's whereabouts."
Sirius hid his face in his palm, a tired sigh escaping him, "My family makes me feel disgusted."
"All of them?" asked Azalea curiously.
"Most of them. You will meet them soon – you will see then."
"Why would I meet them?" prodded a confused Azalea, exchanging a glance with Remus, who looked just as much bewildered.
Sirius answered, "Because tomorrow I will take up the headship and a family meeting needs to be called before a week is out."
"Oh." Azalea shrugged nonchalantly.
Remus asked, "When are you two going shopping for Harry?"
"Us four." corrected Azalea.
"Four?" blinked Remus, making Sirius nod, "Yes Moony. You, Azalea, Harry and me – four."
"What will I do when you all are shopping?"
"Get yourself some clothes." answered Sirius, rolling his eyes.
"But – " before Remus can complete Sirius glared at him, "Moony...don't you dare say no."
Remus nodded, exhausted at having to argue.
Meanwhile an owl pecked on the window of Harry's room. Remus got up to let the owl in while Sirius and Azalea looked curiously.
The owl let Remus take off his parcel, leaving before any treats could be given.
"Whose is it?" asked Sirius, as he slumped against the sofa where he was sitting.
"Umm..."Remus hummed as he saw the wax crest on the letter, "I think it's from Gringrotts."
"Ah, I see. Read it out loud then." said Sirius, drowsily. He was tired now.
"No need." interrupted Azalea, "Sirius, you are tired and you should be. So go take a nap. Remus, just summarize it please. I hope it's nothing urgent."
"It isn't urgent. It says that the money amount have been transferred according to the Will. The letters have also been placed in our vault. Gringrotts is asking us to visit when we have some time." said Remus.
Azalea nodded before yawning slightly, "Well, I am tired so I am going to take a nap."
Sirius and Remus watched amused as Azalea simply lay down properly from where she was sitting, wrapped her arms around Harry properly, causing him to snuggle to her in his sleep and promptly closing her eyes.
Remus, "She sure fell asleep very quickly. What about you Padfoot?"
"I am going to take a nap too. You should do the same Moony. All of us are tired in some way or another. I will ask Tillie to wake us up for tea and snacks." answered Sirius, as he stretched his arms. He got up from the sofa, glanced at the sleeping figures on the bed before moving out of the room to call Tillie.
Remus looked at the two figures sleeping on the bed with a soft smile as well, before gently closing the door behind him. He might as well take a nap.
