The room was freezing with the cold draft blowing from underneath the door. The bright lights of the room buzzed slightly and Jessica stared up at them.
It had been months since she had seen natural daylight. She hadn't seen the sun since she woke up in this room. With no windows around, it was impossible to even see the outside. All she ever was was the four white walls and that dreaded screen.
Jessica's eyes dropped down from the bright lights, her eyes looking towards her bruised arms. Black splotches covered her arms and they were sore to touch. The flashback of the needles being pressed in brought tears to her eyes and she sniffled them back.
The needles were painful. It was torture for her. She hated every second of it. Every plea, every scream, every beg and they still didn't listen. They didn't care she was in pain or that she was being traumatised. They only cared for results.
Jessica sat still on the bed, her legs crossed and arms laid out to rest from her torture. She was sure that they were going to be back soon. Every second that ticked away in the clock, she dreaded, knowing they would walk in the door any second.
She couldn't bare another round of it. But here she didn't have a voice, she didn't have a say, she had nothing. And she wasn't the only one.
As predicted, the door opened and Jessica glanced up, teary eyes as Dr Harrow walked in, clipboard resting on his arm.
"Hello Jessica, how are we feeling?" He asked, looking just over glasses as he pressed on with the questions. Jessica didn't answer, only gave him a sad look.
Please just stop this
"It's been just over 24 hours now, I think we can start again, how does that sound" Dr Harrow gave a smile which didn't reassure Jessica at all.
"Please" she squeaked. The pain and fear was in her eyes and voice.
Please not again
"Come on now Jessica, you've done this before, what's the difference now" the doctor asked and she sniffled a cry back.
"If you are a really good girl, I will let you have some dessert later, how does that sound" Dr Harrow said softly, the smile not leaving his face as he tried to bribe Jessica. Even though she had no choice, Dr Harrow was trying to deliver it as if she did.
Jessica sat at the table, the wires connecting to her chest and her arms. Her arms lay flat in the table, ready for the torture and Dr Harrow stood opposite her, pen at the ready.
"Alright let's start with 5ml of X23" the doctor assisting prepared the needle, flicking the end and squeezing ever so slightly so a small amount of the solution squirted out. Jessica tensed up as soon as she saw the needle, her eyes widening and her hands clenching hard.
"Now just relax Jessica, remember deep breaths" Jessica gave Dr Harrow a final plea look before her arms were pressed down on the metal table hard and the needle inserted inside.
A scream erupted Jessica, her little lungs giving such a force to her scream and the tears escaped down her cheeks, soaking her. Blood poured from the needle being pierced which dripped down her arm and onto her gown, soaking it dark red. Her cheeks turned bright red from her intense crying and her vision was blurry.
It was worse with the bruises already there and the more the needle dug inside her arm, the more she cried out in pain. She couldn't fight back with the doctor holding her down. Even if she could get out of their hold, she had no place to run. The only thing that would happen is she would be forced back down on the table to continue what they were doing.
Why, why did they have to do this
The needle was ripped out of her arm, blood still falling from the prick and Jessica knew her arms would be numb for the next hour or so. Her cries and screams calmed down as the doctor moved away from her, taking the dreaded needles away and she sniffled a few silent cries.
"We'll see how well this one does and if there's little progress we will up the dosage" Dr Harrow spoke, not addressing Jessica but addressing the young doctor assisting who answered with a silent nod.
The two left Jessica without another word and travelled into the small room behind the observation screen. Jessica watched as Dr Harrow took a seat at the desk, typing on the computer while the young doctor was writing on the whiteboard.
The beeping noises from the machine were still steady and Jessica's felt her arms begin to shake, her fingers spasming out of control. She didn't know whether it was the solution they had forced inside her veins or just the pain and fear she had inside her.
Jessica watched at the doctors talked, glancing back and forth between Jessica and the computer and the whiteboard. Jessica knew they ere discussing the findings but she still didn't know what those findings were. It's been months and they were still testing on her, even thought she didn't know how long she had been in here.
She only had a clock with the time on, no date. Anytime she asked what day it was, she was given the same answer.
"That's not important right now Jessica".
Even though she was in a brightly lit room, she felt as if she was being kept in the dark.
Jessica glanced down at her arms, the bruising already starting to form and she let the tears start to fall again.
"How long does this take to analyse?" Kilgrave asked, arms folded as he stood behind Dr Louis in the small room next to Jessica. Dr Louis was analysing her blood samples and biopsy, Kilgrave hoping there would be an answer to Jessica's ability to disregard his control.
He couldn't wait to have Jessica back. He had almost given up on her, hoping to escape from the city on a boat he had planned at the docks but deep down he knew he couldn't part with Jessica. She was his whole world.
When he found that he couldn't control her at the nightclub, he knew there had to be something wrong with her. Which led to him to his plan now.
"Not very long, should only take a few minutes, I took a good sample of her blood so the analysis should be very accurate as well" Dr Louis answered as he typed on the computer, typing in codes and numbers.
Kilgrave glanced over at Jessica who was sound asleep from the sedative Dr Louis had shot her with. Kilgrave had heard the commotion and immediately ran down to see what had happened. As soon as he saw Jessica was missing from the bed, he commanded Louis to shoot her with the sedation gun when he gave the order.
Kilgrave was pissed that Jessica had managed to get out but at the same time, he had missed her and her super strength. When she was under his control, Kilgrave had ordered Jessica time and again to use her super strength to do his bidding, taking care of people as he like to put it.
He enjoyed seeing her beat those security guards. It reminded him of the first time he met her, how beautiful she was and how noble she thought she was. From that moment he knew she had to be his.
Once Jessica had been sedated, Dr Louis had dragged her back and chained her back up again, making sure this time she'd be unable to break the chains from the bed. He had padlocked the two chains together this time, underneath the bed so that Jessica would be unable to pull her arms around underneath the bed as the chain was pulled tight.
Her ankles were once again chained to the bed as well and Dr Louis had added a few extra straps across her shoulders and over her chest to stop her as well, made from the same material as the cuffs so she wouldn't be able to break them.
Kilgrave knew this was going to be tough so he came prepared. If he couldn't use his mind to control her, he had to resort to other measures. But soon he wouldn't need to use those and he'd be able to control Jessica again, making her his and going back to the way things were.
"I'm surprised she doesn't remember you" Kilgrave asked, glancing back over at Dr Louis.
Dr Louis stopped typing on the computer, his fingers halting at Kilgrave's words and he looked over his shoulder from the corner of his eye.
"It's been long time" he murmured back.
"Still, you'd think you'd remember the person who tortured and experimented on you, I can certainly say I did" Kilgrave mumbled to himself.
"I only assisted back then, Dr Harrow did most of the work" Louis replied.
"But you still assisted, which I why I've brought you in because you know as much about Jessica as I do, and you know what to do to get rid of whatever is making her fight against me" Kilgrave stared at the computer screen, watching as Louis went back to inputting the data.
"I was young back then, it's been 18 years, I probably don't look like I did back then" Dr Louis said, hoping to end the conversation.
"Well of course you don't, I'd be surprised if you did and frankly if I had access to Dr Harrow I would have brought him in but he's dead so you're the next best thing" Kilgrave fired back.
"I'm surprised you found the records still, I thought they had been confiscated".
"Well I'm good at finding things I want, I already knew about this place, Jessica told me everything, I just needed to find you which wasn't hard, your name was on her records under Harrows, Dr Louis Bennet, found your address online with a little searching and here we are" Kilgrave shrugged.
"I never wanted my name on there in the first place" Louis murmured.
"Is that why you wanted me to call you Dr Louis and not Dr Bennet, so she wouldn't remember" Kilgrave asked, a brow pointed up slightly.
"Yes" Louis answered robotically, completing the command.
"Fair enough" Kilgrave whispered and stared back at the computer.
"Okay, the analysing should be done in a minute" the computer proceeded to search through the data.
"What are we looking for?" Kilgrave asked, desperate for answers. He was going to stop at nothing until he could control Jessica.
"Any signs of mutation where Jessica can inhibit your control or any antibodies she may have, she might have developed them after you getting hit by the bus as the mind control was broken before she could act on it, if there are signs of them then the way forward would be to remove the mutation or antibodies with some cure or potentially surgery but we'll see" Louis explained.
The computer finished analysing Jessica's blood tests and brought up a file with data on it. Louis clicked on the file, scrolling through and reading through the findings. The words made no sense to Kilgrave who was slightly nervous for the results, his foot bouncing up and down as he waited for Dr Bennet to confirm.
"Well, what is it?" Kilgrave ordered, not wanting to wait another minute.
"It looks like there is some antibodies she's developed, they look to be mutated as well which is why she was able to defend your higher control" Kilgrave was a little relieve at the news. At least he knew it wasn't just him that was the problem. Jessica did have something that could stop him from controlling her.
"I knew it, I wished I had done this sooner, then things wouldn't have got so ugly then, so what do we do now?" Kilgrave asked.
"Well I guess we start on a cure, I have to be honest, it's not going to come over night, there needs to be testing, adaptations, it's going to take a while" Louis turned to Kilgrave.
"Well how long, Jessica can be a dangerous women, this needs to be done quickly" Kilgrave narrowed his eyes at Louis. He wasn't particularly happy that the cure was going to take a while.
"I'll try my best to get it done as quickly as possible but only until we are certain that it works, you want it to last forever don't you?" Louis asked, knowing the answers already. He knew Kilgrave was crazy obsessed with Jessica and therefore he wouldn't want the cure to ever wear off.
"Of course I want it to last forever, I want my Jessica back once and for all and you're going to be the one to do that so get working on the cure now and I want results by the time I get back" Kilgrave ordered angrily, turning on his heel and leaving the small room, slamming the door behind him.
The room was peaceful, with the light beeps from the monitor beside Jessica. She was still sound asleep, resting peacefully on the soft bed, her head pressed into the pillow and her chest rising gently. The sedation wouldn't wear off for at least 10 hours as it was a high dosage.
Kilgrave slowly stepped over to Jessica, his eyes gazing over her, a soft smile on his face as he watched his Jessica asleep. She looked so peaceful there and he was a little glad she had been sedated. He knew she wouldn't get much sleep being here.
She already struggled with the needles, he knew it wasn't going to be easy developing this cure and testing it on her. But it will all be worth it, to have Jessica back in his arms, knowing she would be his forever, knowing she would be safe with him.
Kilgrave stood by Jessica, watching her sleep peacefully. He slowly lifted his hand, brushing it against her arm and over her hand. Her wrist had a managed wrapped around it from where the cuff had cut into her skin and her gown had been changed as the other one had blood on it. She was still as beautiful as they day he met her. He ran his hand up her arm and to her shoulder, brushing away her black hair away from her pale cheek, resting his thumb over the skin and caressing it back and forth.
He leant forward, his lips pursing together and he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his nose rubbing softly on hers. He left his lips there for a few seconds before pulling away and reaching for a blanket that was on the side on top of one of the draws. He draped it over her cold body and gave one final brush on her cheek before leaving the room.
He strolled down the corridor, whistling to himself, hands in his trouser pockets of his purple suit. He pushed open the door to the office he had set himself up in and made his way to the desk, slumping down in the comfy leather chair.
He clicked the computer screen and pressed play on the video he had paused, resuming where he had left off from. He leant back in the leather chair, his feet resting on the desk and hands clasped on his stomach as he watched the video play of a young Jessica in the same room as she was in now.
"Okay Jessica, how are we feeling today, ready to try again".
