I do not own any of these characters besides Adam and Cheyenne. This might make their bond even better, so this chapter is basically fluff between these two friends.
Don't think that they may be a couple. I already made it clear that as for NOW, they are portrayed as having some sort of a brother/sister relationship.
Cheyenne was dropped off at her home after her acceptance into the Fireside Girls, wearing her new honorary uniform, though she hated the color orange, and the beret was REALLY messing up her hair. She was relieved and happy. Not only did she make up to 7 new friends, but Adam had made a few as well. She was happy for him, mostly because Adam had been feeling down the past few months, or perhaps the past year, so she was happy to see him lighten up. Adam's father once told Cheyenne that Adam tends to feel down and depressed whenever he's alone, so she tried to hang out with him as often as she could because Adam seemed a lot happier when Cheyenne was around.
Usually, after a long day, she would stop by at Adam's apartment and they would talk about their day. She went up to Adam's floor and approached his door.
It was silent from the inside of the apartment, so Cheyenne knocked gently. After a few minutes, someone answered the door. A tall, dark-skinned man with short hair and a soul-patch beard. He was already in his sleepwear, consisting of a white T-shirt and grey sweatpants.
He looked tiredly at Cheyenne, smiling slightly at her. "Hello, Chey'. Can I help you?"
Cheyenne smiled, "Hey Mr. Tee, I would like to speak to Adam if you don't mind."
Moe frowned. "Sweetie, he had been feeling down when he got home. If you would like to comfort him, that would be alright."
Cheyenne frowned sadly. "Alright, I'd like to speak to him."
Moe welcomed her inside and pointed towards the direction of Adam's room. Cheyenne smiled sweetly at him and walked towards the direction the older man was pointing towards. Cheyenne took a deep breath as she reached Adam's door. She was stunned to hear slight weeping as she slowing and quietly opened the door. She carefully walked in the room, only to see Adam curled up in his bed, weeping.
Cheyenne raised an eyebrow, "Adam?"
Adam looked up stunned. "Chey', what are you doing here?' He asked in utter shock.
"I just wanted to check in on you. How was your first day?"
Adam looked and shrugged. "Okay. I made friends with a guy names Phineas and his brother, Ferb."
Cheyenne smiled, folding her arms. "That's great. But why are you crying?" Cheyenne noticed Adam's eyes were puffy and his cheeks were stained with tears.
Adam looked down sadly but looked up when Cheyenne knelt in front of him, using her right index finger to tilt Adam's head up. She pleaded with him with her eyes. "Adam, what wrong?"
Adam knew he couldn't hide this anymore. The pained feeling about his mother and how he might have affected his father's life has been crippling him from time to time. He needed to come clean to someone, and besides his father, Adam couldn't think of a better person to spill his heart to than Cheyenne.
"If I were to tell you, then you would have to sit tight since it's a long story." He spoke.
Cheyenne nodded and lay on the right side of Adam's bed. Adam went up to lay on the left.
Cheyenne gripped Adam's left hand. "Okay, tell me from start to finish what's wrong."
Adam sighed, "It's about my mother."
Cheyenne was baffled, "Adam, what about her? She had been gone for years."
"I know, I know. But I never actually told you the reality of how she left and WHEN she did. In fact, it's exactly 6 years ago on this night that she had walked out of our home."
"I know that sounds tragic, but why does that matter now?"
Adam moaned "Because...my dad never saw her leave the house, but I did."
Cheyenne was still confused. Adam looked up at the ceiling as she began. "I'm about to tell you something that I never told anyone, not even my own father." He took a deep breath. "I woke up 6 years ago on the same night. It was around 11 o'clock and everyone at my old house should have been asleep. But I heard something from downstairs and went down to investigate. I was still in my green pajamas, but I did not care. I carefully walked down the stairs and found my mother by the door, with a few bags lied by her feet. I walked up to her and said 'mommy, what are you doing, but she looked down at me and ordered me to go back up the stairs. I refused and she barked her order once again. I was only four, so I didn't know much about how suspicious it was that she had bags and was fully dressed. I just thought she was doing what normal grown-ups do, and that she was gonna go on a trip and be back. I walked up to her to hug her and all, but then..."
Adam paused as he felt himself getting worked up, a few tears falling down his cheeks. He continued, his voice breaking apart as he tried to explain the rest of the story, with Cheyenne pulling him closer so that she was hugging him. "I went up to her to hug her, but she pushed me back and told me that there would be no more hugs. She told me she didn't want me anymore, and I was confused. A bus pulled up in front of our house, and my mom picked up her bags and walked out our door. I...I ran up to her and grabbed her legs, but she dropped her bags to pull me apart from, before pushing me into the house. I looked out the window and saw my mother hop into the bus before it drove off. I soon realized that she was never coming back when I awoke the next morning and found my father crying his eyes out in the living room."
Adam wiped his eyes as he tried to get ahold of himself. Cheyenne began to rub his back to comfort him.
"She...she l-left me. I thought she always loved me, I heard that she and my dad used to be so happy. B-but I was born, and she didn't want us. She didn't love my dad anymore, and she...she never loved me."
Adam broke down into sobs. Cheyenne tried her best to console him but was stunned at how broken Adam sounded.
She tried to calm him down, rubbing his back. "Shh...it's okay, Adam."
"No, it's not! I ruined my dad's life. I was never a good enough child for my mother. If I was never around, my dad and she would still be together. My dad would be much happier with her than me. I sometimes wish I was never born."
Adam continued to cry his heart out for about a minute before he managed to calm down. He lifted his head off of Cheyenne's shoulder before sniffling and wiping his nose.
"Adam, listen to me,' Cheyenne spoke, looking stern at Adam. "You shouldn't be too hard on yourself. It was your mom's choice to leave. If she never wanted children, then that's her decision. Her decision doesn't impact your life anymore. She never wanted children, but your dad did. He is all that matters."
"But..." Adam began but Cheyenne interrupted him.
"But nothing. You still have a father who loves you. You impacted so many people's lives in so many ways. Your cousins, your grandparents, your father, my parents, and of course...you impacted my life."
Adam looked down sadly. "Ever since my mother left, I tried my best to be a good son towards my dad. I would make sure the house is tidy before he comes home from work. I hardly threw any fits. I would obey him no matter what. And..."
"And that's why he loves you. He never stops bragging about you to my parents and how he's lucky to have you as his son. Your father is better off with you than he would have with your mother."
Adam smiled as his tears ceased and his cheeks dried up. Cheyenne cupped his cheek as she continued, smiling sweetly at him. "Adam, you are my pal, and if you ever feel down, you can talk to me. You have done so much for me that I never even want to think about my life without you."
"Thanks, Chey." Adam sighed. "Perhaps, I should get ready for bed."
"Is it okay if I sleep over with you? Today was the first day, but tomorrow is a Saturday."
Adam nodded as the two sat upon his bed. "I would like that."
"Great." Cheyenne stood up when Adam spoke up.
"Chey'?"
Cheyenne turned and glanced over at him. "Yeah?"
"I just wanted to let you know that not only have I wished for my mother back, but I always wished I had a sister. But even if I did, there would never be a sister that would be anywhere near as great as you." Adam smiled at Cheyenne. "I love you. You honestly have no idea how much I do.
Cheyenne cooed and she went and planted a kiss on Adam's cheek before pulling him in for a hug. "I love you too, brother."
With that, Cheyenne walked out of Adam's room to head down to her apartment to get her sleepwear and sleeping bag. Adam relaxed on his bed. It felt like a ginormous weight fell off his shoulder. He only wished he could come clean to his father, but for now, it was great to finally confess to someone, especially someone like Cheyenne.
He only hopes that his mood will improve with his newly formed friendship with Phineas and his brother.
Hope this was a sweet chapter. It was just a glimpse of Adam's past. This could also explain how the pain from his mother leaving turned him into a tough person. I might do the same for Cheyenne, but first I got to show some of her talents.
Anyway, see you in the next chapter.
