I do not own any piece of this show whatsoever.
You know I didn't expect to continue this really. It just surprised me that people kept favoriting it and reading it after two years. I decided to see where it went and if I'll enjoy writing more or not. Leave a review if you like it, it's my first story after all. Also I felt like talking about my own theories on magic and runes.
Learning Runes
Lesson 1
"Greetings everyone. My name is Dale, and I am here to teach you a bit about runes as per your contractual obligations. To begin with runes is a very complicated venture with little in the way of actual boundaries. It's magic. Magic that has had its instructions literally written down and will follow those instructions to the letter. To compare it to other magics it's the difference between simply telling someone how to build a rather complicated shelf with only a picture as reference and giving them the instructions on how to do it with pictures and words. Now you will likely get what you need in the end, it's just a bit harder and you may cut corners without the instructions. It works either way, it's just different.
Now this only matters when we're talking about the end results, it's a whole different ball game when we talk about the differences between internal magic, using spell circles, and runeic clusters. You see internal magic is usually used via the use of a magical core that not everyone has, even here in hell. What everyone here does have is a body that is receptive to change and adaptation with magic which allows them to use spell circles. Now spell circles are used like a gateway between runes and internal magic. They serve as an intermediary that uses the best of both kinds yet has both the disadvantages as well. Ritual circles are one example of this that are much more widely spread and the most common. They are also the most easy to use as the use of a magical circle depends on what components you use, even if it's merely the ambient mana flow around you. It's a type of mutual give and take between the input and the output that requires intense study of the ritual components and how it all feeds into the result. It is, in fact, like science in its own way.
A magic even closer to science are runes themselves. Runes are an action written down to be completed via the use of the mana supplied. Now that isn't to say that you can do anything anywhere as that would be incorrect. Different places have different levels of ambient mana that affects how dense and useful that mana is in a runic cluster. The runes themselves are a container of magic that require two parts to be used, if you want to do things the smart way that is. There is phase one where you simply charge the runes with mana and that is it. You have runes charged with mana and no real action to complete the sentence. The second part is to activate the runic cluster. To activate a runic cluster you must link the runes in the correct sequence. It's as if you're placing one line from a rune to another that tells it this is what's going to happen and here's how you help.
You could create the runic cluster in a place that is densely charged in mana to create a great effect and change the location where you activate them at any point in time after they are charged. Runes are different from spell circles in the fact that you cannot sacrifice something to help create the effect which is why many do not use them exclusively. What many people do not realize is that if you have a magic core you can simply fill each rune individually yourself without having to worry about ambient mana levels, though this is more slightly time consuming depending on your core size and skill level. In hell the ambient mana levels are, on average, low grade in density. This means that the use of runes in any normal area isn't terribly amazing, but it is usable. Unlike the human world where it is miniscule in most places depending on the time. With a magic core one can, in fact create any grade of effect with the right amount of time spent. I will touch up on this a bit but the use of a grimoire can, in fact be used as an artificial magic core. How you make them is usually a secret that many hoard to their deathbeds so we won't be talking about them often though I will note this. Use of a grimoire can lead to different advantageous effects such as the creation of precharged runes and those are usually in the use of demon lords.
This concludes the summary of or first lesson here. Get the hell back to work."
