ONE MINUTE

CHAPTER 5: MOVING ON.

The day after their night excursion to the school, Carlisle made a meeting in the dining room. He wanted to talk about Bella, how were they going to handle her father, and how long they were going to stay in town. They needed a story, definitely where she died. She could not be alive for her family and human friends, the Volturi would get word of that, and the last thing his family needed was a visit from Italy.

They didn't go into too much detail about the Volturi, that would be a conversation for another day. The pressing matter was coming up with a proper and believable story.

"Bella, do you understand why your family needs to think you died?" Esme asked softly but with authority. The way only a mother could.

"I understand it's dangerous for them, and for you." She repeated. "What is the story going to be? What will happen next?"

If no one could know she was alive, she imagined it would not be exactly appropriate for them to stay in town. It would be dangerous, somebody could spot her on the woods. Alice and the others were at school, what if they talked about her as if she were still alive, and someone heard? So, the only option was for her to move out. Leave.

Her heart ached at the thought of leaving them. But she was supposed to be dead. But she had nowhere to go. Although she had money with her in her room, which she assumed she had grabbed from her home when she was packing everything to run. But was it enough for a plane ticket and a hotel? She couldn't use a credit card. Well, she didn't sleep, she could as well be in the woods in wherever she ended up.

"Oh no, Bella. Not like that!" Alice cried out. Her eyes unfocused for a few seconds.

Edward saw her vision in her mind and shook his head vigorously. Why was she thinking of running away, and alone? What about everything they spoke yesterday?

"I'll be dead for my family and friends. I can't stay in town, someone could see me on the woods, or something could happen, and the cover would be blown. I have no choice." She was sad, but it was the only logical explanation.

"No." Edward said forcefully besides her. Perhaps louder than he intended. "We all leave." He proposed, looking around to his family. Of course, it was a choice.

Bella shook her head. "No, I have caused enough trouble, I can't ask you to leave because of me."

"We all move every few years." Emmett commented. "We could leave earlier this time. Go to Europe maybe. It's been a while since we've been there." Rosalie nodded, enthused at the idea of returning to Europe.

"Europe sounds good." Jasper agreed.

In a swift move, he stood behind Alice and put his two hands on her shoulders, effectively containing her in her spot. "No jumping." He ordered mockingly. Alice rolled her eyes. If she wanted, she could move him. They were equally strong. Sort of.

"Ok. So, we move to Europe. Does everyone agree?" Carlisle called to order.

"Yes, dear." Everyone rolled their eyes at Emmett. But nonetheless, everyone agreed to move.

"Are you sure about this?" Bella couldn't believe that they were uprooting their lives here for her.

"We are. Don't worry. It's actually a relive to leave this small town." Rosalie had promised to be kinder with Bella, it started by reassuring her when she needed.

"Thank you. It really means a lot to me." She smiled. "What about my death? How is it going to happen?"

There was silence in the room for a while.

Alice was running all the possible scenarios for the different choices everyone was making. All of them worked at different levels. But none of them stuck. She knew none of them had decided on a specific point.

"That's actually smart." Alice pointed out looking at Bella.

Edward nodded agreeing with her. "It will work. It will raise less questions."

"Does anyone care to share?" Emmett asked annoyed.

"I thought you could tell my parents that I died wherever it is I was. It was a car accident. Edward and I were together, I was driving. One of you was with us in the car, but you survived, while we didn't. It raises less questions. There's a witness that knows for sure we died, what happened, and is traumatized about it. Perhaps Jasper or Emmett could play the victim. It would be too obvious to point one of the girls as the victim."

Everyone, including Alice and Edward, looked at her in shock. She was a little insulted. "I have amnesia, but I'm not stupid." She rolled her eyes.

"Sorry, little Bella." Emmett apologized. "It's actually a very smart plan."

"So, you were in Phoenix, you decided that you were going to see Edward at his hotel. You made up and decided to take a small road trip before going home. Bella was driving since she knew the place better. Jasper was sitting behind Bella, and when she lost control, you knocked your head into the window, getting immediately unconscious. The car was totaled, it turned over and over. Jasper had his window open, and somehow you got expelled. You were near a river, or a water body, and the car went over the river, Bella and Edward didn't make it. Jasper's traumatized because he witnessed his brother and sister-in-law die. Jasper won't be at the service, due to injuries, and mental health. No one would question it." Rose summed up.

"Yes, more or less." Carlisle agreed. "I might take artistic license with the lie once I let Charlie know. But that will be the basis of the subject. Is that what you were thinking, Bella?"

She nodded, not having any more words. Rosalie had painted a good enough picture of what she had simplistically thought.

After the decision to move, and to tell the story of Bella's death was set, they all retired to different activities. Edward was in the mood to play, and Bella wanted to be alone with her thoughts. In reality, she had found a picture that she loved to stare at, trying to remember the moment. It had become her motivation to remember. It was a picture of her and Edward. She was on his back, smiling, he was grabbing her legs from underneath her knees, also smiling widely at the camera. It was so strange seeing the two of them so happy. How fast everything had gone to hell.

Alice also decided to stay home, while the rest decided to go out. Jasper, Emmett and Rose to hunt, and Carlisle and Esme to a movie and a stroll around Port Angeles (date night she had said with a wink.)

"We'll have a visit from Alaska in two weeks." Alice announced to no one in particular.

However, the next day, Carlisle delivered the bad news to Charlie Swan. He decided that it was best to do it in person and not over the phone. He owed him that at least. He felt guilty over taking his daughter without more preparation or more time. But sometimes, life had things set out in a way different than what one originally planned.

Esme had volunteered to go with him, but he thought it was better if he went alone. Less public for Charlie, and this way, Carlisle could say Esme was inconsolable over the death of one of her sons. If only there was an easier way of conveying bad news.

He knocked on the good man's door. Charlie opened, and immediately knew there was something wrong. He allowed Carlisle to enter and they both sat on the couch. Carlisle delivered the bad news, as calmly as he could, trying to act as if he was shaken by the death of his son and his girlfriend. He was shaken, but not by the same thing he was telling Charlie.

"I'm so sorry, Charlie. We all loved her too." It was all he could offer in support.

"Is your son alright?" he managed to ask.

"A broken arm, some bruised ribs, but overall, we still don't understand how he managed to get out." He repeated what Rosalie had said the day before.

"I'm glad he's alright. I'm sorry for your loss of Edward, as well. I know he was a good guy and despite his differences with Bella, I know he cared for her." It was the most emotional thing Charlie had said out loud. Carlisle appreciated the words.

"If it's alright with you, we wanted to have a memorial for them." Carlisle offered to plan everything. He had the contacts.

Even though he did not say it out loud, it would let Charlie grieve in peace, and give the news to Bella's mother. Sadly, this was something he couldn't offer to take off his hands, no matter how much he desired it.

"I have to get back home." Carlisle said standing up from the couch. Charlie stood up with him. "If there is anything we can do for you or for Bella's mother, please let us know."

"Thank you very much, Carlisle." They shook hands and parted ways.

So? What do you think?

Give me some love!
