Here starts the drama.
Varian, 14 years old.
Varian stares down at the floor as he's walked to the throne room. The chains clinking between his arms as Pete and Stan escort him.
"I don't blame you."
he and Pete look at Stan with confusion. "what?" Pete asks.
"I don't know if I'd ever go as far as you did, but I don't blame you. Losing your dad and getting no help, I'd feel the same way if it was my wife and kids."
"then why didn't you help?" Varian asks with quiet rage.
"I was following orders." Stan states automatically. Empty words really.
Pete cringed before becoming a blank slate.
Varian stands before the king and queen, refusing to look at them.
"look at me when I speak to you."
"why should I? Your family paid me no heed when I needed help, should I not return the favor?"
the king growls, "fine. Varian, you are hereby charged with kidnapping, treason, and attempted murder of the royal family. How do you plead?"
"guilty."
"very well, if you were a man you would be hanged. As you are only a child you must serve as many years in prison as needed til you are of age, then you may have a second hearing. That hearing will decide your true fate." he looks to the guards, "take him to a cell."
Two weeks pass, and Queen Arianna looks in on the boy. He was laying on his side as his pet attempted to feed him. It looks up at her with pleading eyes. The boy looked depressed, baggy eyes, disheveled hair, and unfocused gaze. She, despite her servants best efforts, did not look much better. She stares at the boy, her kidnapper and tormentor, of whom she had nightly terrors.
She stood there feeling sorry for him, for he was clearly grieving. She couldn't hate him.
"I wish I could have helped you."
his eyes focus on her and his voice cracks, "...ou could've. No one was stop...stopping you."
"there's nothing I could have done."
"you... could've said something..."
"you didn't listen..."
he jolts upright and runs for the bars. "you could've said something to him!" he yells angrily. Light-headedness overcomes him and he sways. "you're the queen. Act like it." he slumps down on the floor and leans on the bars, "why are you here?" he asks quietly.
"I cannot sleep. I have had constant nightmares of that day."
"I'm sorry. You were the least deserving out of all of them."
"but still deserving?"
"evil wins when good men do nothing."
she looks away, "maybe." she calls out to the guard, "sir, unlock this cage."
the guard obeys, letting her in. she picks up the food and starts to feed him. After a few minutes half the plate was gone but he wanted no more. She walks out and the guard latches it behind her. As she leaves she says, "I hope both out nightmares end someday."
Varian starts to cry.
Yes... bawl your eyes out... let the sadness flow through you... embrace the dark side of the force.
