Part 5

Almost six years had past when Sonic returned helping people along the way, through those years he missed his friends and most importantly his Ames. Through those years Tails and Sally tried many time to get in contact with them, but he ended up turning his communicator off after the fourteenth time when Tails finally got a hold of him that was till his two tailed friend mentioned Amy not ready to talk about her yet and hung up. After that both Sally and Tails stopped calling him- before going to Tails home Sonic headed to the park to grab a Chilli-dog when he heard children playing and one of the children caught his eye.

The little blue hedgehog around five speeding along hiding looking over hedges giggling happily when a little pink bat hybrid girl with pretty purple eyes found him and began chasing him. There was no mistaking those emerald green eyes and the sweet smile that reminded Sonic so much of his girl, there was no way that this little boy was his as Ames would have... no, no this couldn't be true Amy would never not tell him about something as important of having a son as Amy didn't have a mean bone in her body. Was this the reason Tails and Sally were trying to... No this kid cannot be his child, but no matter how much he denied it there were certain traits that only a father can give their child.

The boy had sonic speed like him even though he was slowing his speed for the girl who was trying to catch him.

"Bolt slow down, I can't tag."-

"Come on Jewel, try n' catch me."

Playfully teasing the girl speeding up when the pink bat hybrid was close to tagging him then speed up once more, Jewel got her legs pumping and almost caught Bolt when she tripped over a tree root and cut her knee. As soon as Bolt heard Jewel cry he stopped in his tracks and ran back to her wiping her tears away. "Hey don't cry, you know I only like to see you smile."

Sonic remembered when he was small when he said the same thing to his Ames as he too hated to see his best girl cry, history always repeats itself and Sonic knew that at any moment the pink girl was going to grab the boy and squeeze him half to death with a hug as he tried to get away. What Sonic didn't expect was Bolt tickling the girl making her giggle, once Jewel was smiling the girl of four hugged the boy and the blue hedgehog hugged her back.

"Bolt, will you promise that you marry me one day?"-

"Yah Momma will kill me, but I promise that I will always be there to protect you."

Jewel just laughed as she hugged her best friend again, "hey guess wats." Bolt smiled knowing what she was going to say when his little pink Echidna/Bat Hybrid told her best friend. "I caught you," Bolt was about to answer without getting a kiss from Jewel- she might be his friend but he wasn't going to get cooties from any girl. Jewel was about to get her kiss when she heard Knuckles' calling for the children telling them that Bolt's mother and father are back with news. Not wanting to wait for anything Cobalt sped back to his parents with Knuckles and his daughter not far behind.

Sonic didn't follow as he was going to get his answers from Tails and find out why he was never told he was going to be a daddy, he had known he would have been there for her even if he had to be with Amy out of obligation. Sonic ran away to the direction of Tail's house not noticing that Shadow had spotted him speeding away, right now Sonic was the least of his troubles as he and his wife were going to find out if they were going to have a boy or a girl.

It was around evening as the last of the sun set when Tails returned home to see Sonic snoring his on his couch, the two tailed fox had just came back from Amy and Shadow's baby reveal party and everyone was in high spirits. Now Sonic was back and Tails wasn't ready to open those can of worms, right now he needed to sleep and talk to his brother in the morning. Just as he was halfway to the hallway to his room when Sonic stirred awake, knowing there was no chance for any sleep turned around just as Sonic asked him about Bolt and more importantly if he was the father.

Tails wasn't in the mood for Sonic's attitude, especially when he was blaming the group for not telling him or Amy not calling with the news. The two-tailed fox pinched the bridge of his nose like he was trying to get rid of a headache, sighing the twenty-one-year-old wanted answers himself in where Sonic was and why he hung up when Amy did get in contact. Sonic wished he had the answers to that, all he remembered was that he was hurting and at the time wasn't in the right frame of mind. Sonic didn't want to hear from Sally that Amy was hurting when he saw it himself, that wasn't the only reason as a part of him didn't want to hear that his Ames was in someone else's arms as that would have destroyed him.

There was no chances for Sonic to be with Amy now as it was much too late for that, but he wanted to know more about his son hoping that Amy would let him be in his life.

Tails talked proudly about his Godson and the little adventures Cobalt got into, Sonic laughed with the thought of his son knocking on Robonik's door and tormenting the now retired mechanical genius getting on his last nerve. Finding out Cobalt's birthday was two days after his, however the blue hedgehog didn't like the idea of his boy being named after Eggman's Grandfather but what right did he have in demanding to change it.

Sonic and Tails talked for a few hours about Bolt, but mostly about Amy and if she was happy.

It was close to one am when the two-tailed fox tiredly yawned heading to bed, after offering Sonic to stay for the night. While Tails slept Sonic kept staring at the ceiling thinking about Amy and what he had lost, after trying to get some rest sleep didn't come to him. TV didn't have anything interesting on so decided to look around, it was investigating the place that stumbled upon a photo album and feeling nostalgic the blue hedgehog pulled it out and sat back down on the sofa. There were old pictures of him and Tails when they were younger with the Freedom Fighters, looking carefully he didn't realise how much Amy loved him with the way she looked at him when he was dating Sally- Amy was smiling but her sweet smile never reached her eyes.

Sonic sighed remembering those times he purposely forgot the dates that Amy arranged, sometimes or not often Eggman did really attack the city and had no choice but to stop him. The first date he ever missed was when he offered the sakura coloured hedgehog asked for a date on the same day he arranged a race with a human named Sam Speed, it was on that day that Eggman escaped from prison and through the day was looking for him. Instead of apologising for being late or make it up to her, Sonic stepped to one side when she ran to him for a hug falling face first in the sand- Sonic never saw the tears when he walked away with Sam into the sunset to start their race.

Shaking himself out of the memories looking at photos till he came to the latest ones, there were pictures of Amy's ultrasound pictures with a label of how many weeks the foetus was. Sonic marvelled running his fingers over the image wondering what it would be like to hear his son's heartbeat for the first time, to watch him grow inside Amy's womb and by the pictures of Amy and her rounded stomach looking radiant through the stages. What he hated was that Shadow was in most of them either with his arms around Amy or his hands on the baby bump smiling like the baby was his- what truly angered Sonic was the several last pictures that Tails and Cream took on Amy and Shadow's wedding day dancing with so much love in their eyes and the last picture in the Album was Shadow, Amy and two-year-old Cobalt grinning at the camera. One happy family, and Sonic hated it as Amy and Cobalt were his family, not Shadow's.

Tails woke up just as the sun was about to rise to see Sonic looking through the photo album, his fingers were caressing the contours of Amy's face as she tiredly smiled at the camera while holding her son who just came into the world.

"I should have been there buddy, why did it have to be that faker?"

Tails wanted to throttle his big brother's neck, instead of running off like he did Sonic would have been in Shadow's place. The problem with this would be Sonic would get bored rather quickly with staying in one place and one day would resent Amy and their son and leave for the road again, Cobalt didn't need that in his life and it wouldn't have been fair to Amy either. Sonic was expecting an answer from his little brother, what he got for an answer was if he wanted bacon with his pancakes. Not feeling hungry at the moment Sonic needed some fresh air, letting his feet take him where he needed to go and found himself outside Amy's house.

Shadow had to leave early as he was needed at G.U.N Headquarters, placing a kiss to his wife's lips telling her he loved her and ruffled his son's hair telling him to look after his mom till he got back. With a milk moustache and a cheeky dimpled smile just like his mother's promised he would look after mom and unborn baby sister. Stealing one last kiss Shadow pulled out Chaos Emerald and teleported back to base leaving Amy to get Cobalt ready for school. Grabbing his lunchbox and schoolbag mother and son were about to leave when there was a knock on the door, Amy recognised that knock anywhere. Cobalt on alert stood by his mother and held her hand taking his father's words to heart to protect her ready to kick if he had to.

Sonic was nervous, he was finally going to see Amy after so long. The blue hedgehog was building the courage to knock on Amy's door, after a few minutes of Shadow leaving did finally knocked and was in utter awe to see how beautiful Amy looked with her quills now longer that reached between her shoulder blades and curled at the bottom. Gone was the red dress and boots she loved to wear and instead a pretty yellow summer dress, white comfortable shoes and matching hairband with a white daisy on it. Amy wasn't expecting to see Sonic on her doorstep at all after almost six years had passed, placing her hand over her stomach where her daughter was growing Amy stepped outside and began walking towards the school as Cobalt kept his eye on the stranger.

Bolt listened to his mom and the stranger that later found out was Sonic were talking about his adventures finding out what everyone was doing now since he left, Amy tightly smiled as she and her ex talked hoping Sonic didn't bring up anything about Bolt as the hoglet believed that Shadow was his dad. Many times Amy and even Shadow told Bolt that the black and red striped hedgehog wasn't his real dad, but Cobalt said Shadow was better as he got to chose him as his daddy and that Shadow chose him as his son. Tears glistened in Amy's eyes when both Shadow and Bolt had a father and son moment, now that Sonic was back did he want to be in his son's life.

Once out the school gates, Amy gave her son a hug and told him to be good. When the children entered inside the building Amy turned towards Sonic asking him what he wanted, Sonic took a deep breath and said he wanted to get to know his son. Amy wasn't sure about that, but Sonic was insistent and the pink hedgehog finally caved by introducing Sonic as a friend of the family or a uncle of sort so they could get to know each other before telling him the truth.

Sonic finally agreed so he could get to know his child and also be close to Amy, he knew that there was still a part of Amy that still loved him and that would never change as he still loved her.
