A/N: Here is another chapter of Flame and Frost for you to enjoy on your Saturday. I love reading all your reviews so thank you so much. Thanks to my prereaders SassyNoles, Maplestyle, and 2 Brown eyes. Thanks to my beta Alice'sWhiteRabbit. This starts with EPOV so let's see what he has to say.

EPOV

Life since Bella appeared had turned into a tornado of chaos. Everything was comfortable—easy—before. Alice and Rose had appeared at the school a few months ago, and even though she was a little thing, Alice freaked me out. She was so out of control when she arrived she had to be sedated by Carlisle several times, and I was the only one who could hold her without her causing serious damage.

Aside from my fire abilities, I also was impervious to psychic attacks and damn near impervious to physical attacks when I was in flame mode. I could be killed, of course, but it was a lot harder to do. When I wasn't in flame mode, I was just like any other Joe.

But back to Bella. The minute Emmett ripped off that truck door of her shitty vehicle, she reminded me of my ex so much. She was beautiful, with brunette hair and dark eyes, and she was strong as hell, in terms of her gifts. Moments after we met her, her skin turned ice blue, and her hair changed to blonde. I was so thrown by this that her hostility took a minute to register.

When Jasper started talking about her blocking him, and Alice couldn't read her, I knew we were dealing with something we never had before. Alice said she was never able to read her thoughts, meaning before she even had control of her abilities, she already could block psychic threats. Alice had already seen that she had cryokinetic powers, so I was an obvious choice to come to counterattack her if needed.

The morning after we got her back to the school, she scared me. She leeched energy from me and froze Carlisle's entire medical office. What made it worse was it wasn't intentional. She had no idea what she was doing, and in my mind, this made her so dangerous. It was just circumstance after circumstance that had us butting heads, and while I would love to be friends with her, I didn't have the luxury of trusting her.

It ended up biting me in the ass because all my friends loved her. Emmett thought she was a badass, and he saw her like a little sister. There were also all the jokes he made about her being hot, just to rile me up. Though she and Jasper were extremely uncomfortable around each other at first, she wormed her way into his heart too. Alice and Rose already had a long history with her, and I saw the softer side of Bella around those two. Jessica liked her too.

Then fucking Caius had to set his sights on her. He and I were friends, sure, but when my ex-Angela had shown up, he went after her too. She obviously saw through his nice guy act, and I asked her out. Since then, our friendship had never been the same.

When we met three years ago after he arrived, we were two 14-year-olds who geeked out on the same things, but when our hormones kicked in and girls started to come into the picture, our differences became numerable. I was sure he could be a nice guy and treat a girl right, he just never did. Something made me think that if he tried to pull any shit on Bella, she would drive his ass in the ground, so I didn't do anything so stupid as to warn her off him. We weren't friends enough for me to try that.

I was broken out of my chaotic thoughts when Alice returned to the table after taking Bella outside to talk to her.

"We might have a big fucking problem. I'm not sure yet because it's super blurry still, but I saw Bella disappear."

"What do you mean disappear?" Emmett asked, shocked.

"Like just fucking gone, Emmett. What other definition for disappear is there?" Alice snapped.

"Alice, you have to explain. How could she just disappear?" Rose said, using her soothing voice.

"Well, either something happens, such as something that kills her or close to, making her future disappear, or she comes across someone who can hide from psychic abilities."

My blood ran cold at her words. There was only one person who could do what she was talking about. "Alice …"

"I know, Edward, but how could she come across Bella? She's not allowed at this school again, and she wouldn't be stupid enough to try. But Bella is having the dreams."

I pulled at my hair. "No, not again. Fuck this shit." I grabbed my backpack and my jacket. I left the cafeteria, and when I got outside, my temper was at an all-time high. I threw my backpack and my jacket. I felt the change coming before it happened, and then, I was on fire. I wanted nothing more than to set shit on fire, but there was nothing that wouldn't get me in trouble more. With nothing to destroy, I felt my rage quell.

I needed to talk to Carlisle. He knew everything that had happened with Angie, and he would be able to help me, or at least Bella. I walked around until I knew his first period was almost over. I entered the training building and saw him holding an unconscious Bella, with Caius hot on his heels.

"Edward. What are you doing here?" Carlisle asked. I fell in step with them as he took Bella to his medical office.

"I needed to talk to you," I explained.

He must have seen the look on my face. "Very well. Caius, why don't you get to second period. I'll have Bella come to let you know she's okay when she wakes up."

Caius nodded, gave me a pointed look, and left.

Carlisle laid Bella down and took a quick set of vitals. He had enough medical training to be a nurse, so we all trusted him and his medical opinion.

I told Carlisle everything that Alice had told us, and my worries about how she would come up against my darling ex. As stated before, there was only one person who could hide from psychic detection, and that was Angela, and that information had come right before she left. She had come to this school, gotten close to me and my friends, and then she decided that her time was better spent being evil. She had switched sides.

Carlisle told me what I already knew. We would just have to watch the situation. He also told me that I needed to stop being combative with Bella and punishing her for what Angela did. If this future was in the realm of possibility, then she would need as many friends as she could get. He was right of course, but I had no idea how to make it better.

Carlisle told me what had happened during their training when I asked what was wrong with her. He seemed pretty impressed with what she was able to do, and he was fairly sure it was the extra power that made it capable for her, as she hadn't trained much yet.

Another student came looking for Carlisle, and being the director of the school, he had to deal with it. So, he left me to watch over Bella until she woke up. Leaving me with my thoughts and more than enough time to analyze them.

BPOV

When I came to, I groaned because I was in the room I had frozen before. I felt pretty okay, only tired and a little dizzy. I went to sit up when someone was beside me, helping me to sit up. I huffed when I realized it was Edward. "What are you doing here?"

"Mr. C had to go deal with an issue, and he asked me if I would watch over you until you woke up?"

"Well, where's Caius?"

His eyes turned hard, and he looked away from me. "He had to go back to class. I was here to talk to Mr. C about a class."

"Well, thanks for sitting here. That can't have been much fun."

"It was fine. Did you know you talk in your sleep?"

My face started to heat up at that. Yeah, I was aware, and it was incredibly embarrassing. "Yeah, I know. What did I say?"

"A lot of it was indecipherable, but I did hear insufferable asshole and something about sex hair."

I covered my mouth with both of my hands and giggled. Yeah, I had been talking about Edward, but there was no way I would admit it.

He smiled, and I realized he was really handsome when he did that. His grin was a little lopsided, but it was incredibly cute at the same time. I smiled back at him tentatively.

"So, I heard there was some pretty impressive stuff during training earlier."

I groaned, getting off the table. "I don't know how passing out is impressive."

"No, what you did before that. I wouldn't beat yourself up about passing out. You did a big thing. We've all felt the fatigue before. Alice used to get nosebleeds, and Jasper has fainted. Stuff in the mind is pretty draining, I've heard," he explained, trying to reassure me.

"Why are you being so nice to me? I'm not complaining. I just don't understand it."

He sighed, and I knew whatever he was thinking was bothering him. "I was wrong, okay," he said, more frustrated at himself than me. "All my friends seem to like you—Emmett, Jasper, Jessica, and Caius. I don't know why you touched a nerve, but maybe it was just a combination of circumstances."

I smiled. "So, is this you apologizing for being a colossal asshole?"

He seemed to hesitate, not wanting to actually say he was sorry.

"Emmett told me that you had a friend who betrayed you guys. He wouldn't go into specifics because it wasn't his business to say, but I get why you were wary of me. I get that trust is hard to give when you've been fucked over, but I never did anything to make you think you couldn't trust me. Maybe give me the benefit of the doubt."

"What exactly did he tell you?" His eyes were hard again—well shit, he looked angry again.

"Just that sometimes gifted people come here before they decide which side they want to be on and that it really sucks that someone who was your friend isn't on the same side as you anymore. I asked him if you all became friends with someone who chose the other side. He told me yes, and the rest wasn't his story to tell. When I guessed it was a girl, he confirmed it, and that was the end of the conversation," I said, purposely leaving the rest of it out. I already felt like I was throwing Emmett under the bus, but Edward and I had to get past this.

"Her name was Angela. She showed up a few months before Seth did, so probably around a year ago," he said really quietly. Almost like he didn't want to tell me but couldn't stop himself regardless. "She was really strong. She could generate energy blasts from her hands and was just learning how to explosively detonate objects before she left. She was also immune to Jasper's mind control, like you. She was the strongest gifted person I'd known until I met you."

I was a modest person. I really didn't think that I was anything special, and it wasn't insecurity—it was my honest opinion. To me, my powers weren't nearly as useful as the people surrounding me, so whenever any of my friends praised my power, I sidestepped it. "What happened?"

He cocked his head and looked at me confused. "Why do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Whenever someone tells you that you're strong or impressive, you downplay it."

"I've told you before, Edward. I don't see my powers being nearly as useful as the people surrounding me."

"Too much cold affects anyone, you can absorb energy, and you have a psychic shield that you can expand to other people. I'm sure that if Alice had tried to read Mr. C's thoughts when you shielded him, she wouldn't have been able to."

"For now, can we just agree to disagree? What happened with Angela?"

"She and I were … close. She started having these crazy dreams and started walking around like a zombie. She wouldn't talk to any of us, and then one day, she attacked Mrs. C in class and hightailed it. Said she wasn't going to be some do-gooder's puppet."

"Jesus," I said, completely stunned. So, reading between the lines and what wasn't said, Edward and this chick were dating, and one day she just snapped and attacked someone, then bounced. I hated to make excuses for the guy because that so wasn't me, but I kinda understand why he freaked out. I don't know how I was the strongest gifted person he'd met; it seemed that with what all she could do, Alice would be pretty formidable. "I'm sorry you had to deal with that, Edward. That's a pretty shitty thing to do to someone you care about. I'm not gonna sit here and promise that will never happen to me because I've felt that kind of anger before, but I will say that I don't want to go darkside, and I don't think Rose, Ali, or Emmett would let me."

"I can't say that we're gonna be best friends immediately; clearly, I have a temper, but I would like it if someday you'd consider me one of those people who wouldn't let that happen to you."

I smiled at him. That was probably going to be the nicest declaration I would get from him in a long time, so I took it. I nodded. "I'd like that too."

Not quite sure where to go from here, we both stood in awkward silence until Edward asked me to tell him about what happened during training. I told him everything that had happened, and he smiled a few times when I was so engrossed in explaining things to him because I tended to go off on tangents. Better he knows that now if we were gonna be friends.

"Well, Carlisle wants us to train together, and my training session is on Thursday, which is when your next one is, so I guess he'll get his wish."

"Oh, he said three times a week. I wonder when the third time will be."

"He'll probably pull you into our group training on Saturday. It's for anyone that wants to do it or feels like gawking at the new girl," he said, smirking again.

I pulled my hair together and tucked it behind my neck in a makeshift bun. "God, that's frightening. I hate being the center of attention."

"Well, I'll be there. Emmett, Alice, and Rose have all volunteered as well to support you. You won't be alone. Emmett and I will keep the gawkers at bay."

I blinked at him, a little stunned. I wasn't used to this Edward yet. The protective, nice guy with the hair and that fucking smile. I was so thrown by this completely different personality he had. I liked it a lot better than the cocky, hotheaded, asshole. "Thanks, Edward. Sorry, I'm just not used to you being nice."

"I'm a nice guy, Bella. Most of the time. As I said, a lot of our clashes were just us being victims of circumstances."

"I don't believe that."

"What do you mean?"

"Being a victim of circumstances. I think you always have a choice. I believe that maybe we misunderstood each other or made assumptions, but the way we both handled it was a choice. Looking at it any other way gives too much power to other people or things outside our control, and I refuse to feel that helpless," I said simply. Sitting here having this debate with him was so surreal. We were getting to know each other by having a philosophical discussion. I shook my head.

"I like the way you look at it. Makes you feel more in control. I believe that, yeah, we have a choice, but we have no control over other's choices or reactions, and that makes us susceptible to circumstances we can't change."

I chuckled at him because he had me there. Sometimes, we had no control over someone's action or choices, but I still maintained that we had a choice. "That's true, but I still maintain we always have a choice. Whether it's just to grin and bear it or fight back. That's still a choice that you make."

"I'll agree to that." We both smiled at each other, and then we were interrupted by Carlisle coming back into the room.

"Bella, how are you feeling?"

"I feel okay, just a little tired. Kinda hungry."

"I imagine. That seemed to take quite a bit out of you. Your friends were asking about you. It seems Alice saw you fainting, and it gave her a fright."

"Oh, I should go find them. Am I okay to go?"

"Edward, will you make sure she makes it out safely? Just take it easy for a little bit, Bella. I'd like to do more training on Thursday."

"Okay, thanks, Mr. Cullen."

Edward helped me put my jacket on, and then wrapped his arm around my waist to help me out of the room. Once we walked out of the training building, we were swarmed by all my friends. I assured all of them that I was fine. I saw a few questioning glances from Alice and Rose because Edward's arm was around my waist. He dropped it, and I found myself missing the warmth. That was weird. I didn't have time to analyze it because my friends were asking for a play-by-play up until I fainted. I told them all the story, and they cheered for me.

I asked where I could find a snack. Alice and Edward were in my next class, so they volunteered to take me on a tour of the vending machines, and we all eventually dispersed. Alice seemed perturbed that Edward was with us. I didn't need to be psychic to know that she wanted to get me alone to ask me about me and Edward. I felt a strange sense of satisfaction of having a secret from the mind reader.

"We'll have to see on Saturday if your shield projection also protects the other person."

"If I'm able to do it again, Ali. It took a lot out of me."

"Caius volunteered to be there, so you should be okay."

"Alice, he's not a car battery. I'm not okay with just arbitrarily using other people to make me more powerful. I'm not hungry anymore. I'll see you guys in class," I said and turned abruptly, heading to class. I know what had happened hadn't hurt Caius. Carlisle had assured me before our training that absorbing Caius's energy wouldn't hurt him because the amounts he generated led to an excess.

But the way Alice brought it up, like it was just a passing thought, really bugged me. Ever since these powers had first manifested, I had unintentionally hurt several people, and to act like it wasn't a big deal felt wrong. Maybe this was something I should talk to Carlisle about. Ditching classes my first real day of school set a bad precedent, but this would eat at me all day. I headed to where I knew his office was; where we had talked a few times.

I stood in front of his office and noticed his door was open a crack. I was about to knock when I heard voices inside.

"What does that mean, Carlisle?" Esme asked.

"I don't know. Maybe I should talk to Alice about it, but Edward told me that Alice very clearly saw her future disappear. There are two possible reasons why that could happen, and neither of them bode well for Bella."

I gasped. What. The. Fuck.

A/N: How are we feeling? Some questions were answered. Alice did see something, and we know how Edward got burned. Leave me a review and let me know what you think. Until next week lovelies.
