Chapter 5

Nina looked at Alina and started crying, all of a sudden the door opened but it wasn't the guard they were use to it was Mathias.

As Inez knew who Mathias was as the others never bothered to see him, see called to Nina. But Nina wasn't answering she was crying over her beloved friend who sacrificed so much. Mathias opened the cage looking somber, he put his hand on Nina, "I'm sorry Nina I did not know they would hurt you both." he said scaring her.

Nina was to upset to get angry at him and she turned into his chest and cried, he put his arm around her shoulder and apologies to her ear. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry Nina please forgive me" and he hugged her tighter.

"Mathias are you able to get food and medicine for the girls" Inez asked.

Mathias looked at Inez and back at Nina and Alina, "What do you need?" Mathias asked Nina

"for our back I need herbs to fight the infections this place may give us and for Alina she needs good food not rotton" Nina replied sniffing.

"Food is Food" Mal spat and turned his back.

Mathias looked at him and back at Nina, she whispered in his ear "She sacrifice.."

"I heard what you said before but that wouldn't make her that weak" he whispered back.

Nina bit her lip, "she is pregnant please" hoping he knew not to say anything. Mathias kissed Nina on the lips and slipped out.

Nina felt her mouth tingle from that kiss and smiled, then she went back to taking care of Alina. She was glad at this stage she had told the others of Alina's pregnancy, she knew Mal would react very badly to it.

Mathias return sometime later with soup and herbs for the girls, Nina sorted Alina injuries first before waking her up so she could eat. Unfortunately Alina vomitted again before she could start, Mathias whispered that his mother had taught him about different herb and the soup had something to help settle Alina stomach. Once Alina was in less pain and fed, Mathias helped Nina with her injuries.

"I'm going to find away to get you all out, they promised me they weren't going to do this but they lied." Mathias whispered quietly to Nina.

"please don't get yourself caught remember you said they would brand you a traitor if you were sympathising with Grisha" Nina said worryingly

"Don't worry about me Nina this is my fault and I will fix it" Mathias said and left

When Alina felt somewhat better she asked Nina, "Did they drug me is that why I feel so bad?"

"No they did not drug you Alina, can I ask a personal question?" whispered Nina watching the others.

Alina nodded wondering where this was going.

"Alina have you ever been with someone in the intermittent way?" Nina said looking at Mal.

"I .. not with Mal he never wanted me until someone else wanted me" Alina replied And kept going, "but I .." Alina looked at Mal and he scowled at her.

Nina realised, "you and then General?"

Alina nodded, " yes we were together once before" waiving her hand around, "and now he is dead"

"Alina did you drink any tea after you?"

Alina shook her head and looked down.

"Alina you, umm when I touched you after they took you the first time I heard 3 heart beats"

"What?" Alina asked In shook she knew what Nina was implying but had to be told

"You are pregnant Alina and if I'm not wrong you are carrying twins" Alina had tears coming down her face and put her hand on her flat stomach however she felt it a small bump had formed where her children grew.

Alina didn't know what to think was she happy or was she sad, she thought the Darkling was dead but when she was getting whipped she sensed him after she called him. Could he really be alive she closed her eyes to try and call out to him but got nothing.

"Alina do the other know?"

"Mal hated the fact I was getting close to the General but if I told him, he would hate me. He is my friend someone I call family or .."

"if he is truly family Alina he would have accepted you and what I have seen .." Nina looked at him.

"He will never accept me as something strong, I realised that I have out grown him. I have watch him for 4 years sleep with other women paying no attention to me until... and that's when he says that he loves because the General was getting close. The General I think cared for me because of me, he told me I was beautiful, no one else every said that to me" Alina smiled but had tears coming down her cheek.

Nina smiled, "Are you happy about the pregnancy ?"

"I'm not sure ask me when we are free and they have survived" Alina looked away to the other side of the cage.

"Alina trust me we will survive this and I will help you get stronger."

Mathias kept sneaking food for all until 4 days later in the early morning several guard came in an knocked out Inez, Jesper, Kaz and Mal. The girls protested and were told to be silent, an hour later they were both dragged out and place on a table each.

Mathias was forced to go with the other Fjedran's guards to take the 4 unconscious prisoners to a ship there trip started off slow from the farmhouse to the capital city. By early afternoon they had entered to city as they got 2 blocks in one of the Fjedran guard shouted

"Grisha!" The guard and Mathias turned and saw the General and his men circling the carriage.

"Sir" one of the General Guard shouted, "they have the tracker"

The General had been tempted to let the Fjedran go but when he was told that the tracker was in the cart he knew Alina must be close.

"Attack" one of the Fjedran Guard and they all except Mathias went after the Grisha soldiers. Mathias went to protect the bodies when he saw Jesper waking.

"What is happening?" he asks coming around.

"There is Grisha here" Mathias said

Jesper looked around and saw the General, and look at Mathias in shock, "Mate you need to escape they will kill you"

"I can't, I can't leave Nina I have to get back to her" Mathias replied.

"If you run they will shoot you down" Jasper said.

"Here I brought your guns can you help me take down the guards?" Mathias asked

Jesper nodded taking one of his guns and both he and Mathias shot at the guards to help the Grisha. The Fjedran's were fighting dirty and Mathias could see one of the grisha girls being beaten up by a guard he ran from the cart and when he was closer enough he shot the guard in the head. The female screamed, "Its okay" Mathias said putting his hand out to help her up, "I'm not going to kill you, you are injured I'll take you back to the cart so you can hide." She nodded her head and got up he tucked her under his arm and led her back to the cart as he shot other Fjedran's. She started to heal herself Jesper looked at her, "your a healer?" he asked and she nodded

"Do you want me to wake your friends?" she asked

"No leave them" Jesper said as he kept shooting out at the guards.

Soon the Fjedran's were dead and the General walked up to the cart when he saw Mathias he started the cut. Both Jasper and healer shouted, "Stop" and the General stop.

The healer piped up, "He saved me from getting killed by a Fjedran's guard and brought me back to the cart for protection"

"He is still the enemy" the General answered

"NO" Jesper interjected, "He hasn't been the enemy for a long time, Mathias has been our friend"

"really Jesper?" the General asked.

"we need to stop this arguing" Mathias stood up, "I'm in love with Nina a Grisha and she and Alina are still prisoners we need to get to them fast"
