This fill is written for getyourwordsout's Yahtzee challenge, where I have five prompts and need to write a certain amount of words to make my Yahtzee. I'm writing for "Sevens" where I need to write over 700 words.
This prompt is for my getyourwordsout Yahtzee prompt that was a pic of a green field. This is set post-canons.
summary: Wanda chooses a photo for the Paul & Darlene's cabin.
her face says freedom
part five: photograph
In the past week alone, Wanda's sat at the Wilson kitchen table with photos splayed out in front of her. Purposefully, she's piled a few of them on Sam's seat. Bucky sits beside her, Vibranium arm against the back of her chair and his fingers tapping against the very corner of hers. Wanda ignores him in these moments, too intent on trying to get a rise out of Sam.
With her gaze down on her photos, Wanda slides them around as if she's trying to create a patchwork. Every time Sam asks about what she's doing, she gives him the same answer: "Everyone else has a picture in the cabin for them," she says, "Why can't I?"
With a few gossip magazines piled in front of her, she flips open the cover and begins to scan the images inside. Sam stands impatiently in front of them, trying to tower over the two of them. His shadow doesn't extend very far when he's his usual self. Without the wings, he's merely an ant to someone like Wanda.
Bucky's not entirely sure what she's looking for, but he knows he's more than happy to sit at her side and listen to her comments and quips about celebrities he doesn't give one shit about. Wanda seems to care. She's taken to gossiping about celebrities with AJ and Sam like a fish does to water.
Sam shakes his head, looking at Bucky. He draws a line across his neck. "You're not putting a picture of Brad Pitt or that Efron kid up in my boat. I know what a Zac Efron movie marathon means and I'm not falling for it."
Wanda ignores him. Bucky smiles up at him before he taps his fingers against the back of Wanda's chair and purposefully leans over so he can spy what she's looking at. It only seems to aggravate Sam further.
Sam clears his throat abruptly. "Buck!"
Bucky lifts his shoulders in his own defence, laughing. "What? You think I'm going to stop her? She can turn me into a freaking marble."
"A silver one," Wanda says easily. She glances up at him with a smile. "A very shiny silver one."
"See?" Bucky gestures to her with his right hand and shrugs once more. "She's thought about it. I'm in danger, Samuel."
"Don't call me Samuel," Sam snaps his fingers. "And Wanda…" Clearing his throat once more, he presses his hands together in prayer. "You know I love you. I like you a lot more than I like James, but… I am not going to have a picture of any actor half-naked in my boat. We can't have that kind of distraction around here. Keep that to your cellphone."
Wanda regards Sam with a furrowed brow. "Then why do you let Bucky on the boat?"
Sam makes a show of dry heaving. Bucky ducks his head, cheeks flushing hot; he chuckles sheepishly and glances at Wanda, noting her proud smile.
"I'm going to need to have another look at the Paul & Darlene rulebook," Sam says. He gestures between the two of them with a wave of his hand. "No holding hands. No mushy talk. No… acknowledging Bucky with his too-small shirts and six toes."
"For the last time," Bucky sighs heavily, shaking his head, "I don't have six toes."
Wanda slide her fingers beneath a magazine, glancing up at Sam for a moment. "I want this picture," she says. She holds up a photo with worn edges. The photograph's of an endless bright green field and warm light blue sky. The field's framed by dark, tall mountains and lacks any identifying landmarks. From his vantage point beside her, Bucky can see the back has been scribbled on with black marker, but he can't read what it says.
Sam steps forward and curls his hands around the back of the chair opposite her. His brow furrows curiously as he takes in the photo. Bucky knows he's happy with her choice by the upward curve of his mouth. "I like it. Is that someplace special?"
Nodding, Wanda smiles warmly. "Sokovia." She brushes her fingers gently over the curled edge tips. "It's where we always wanted to go when we had the money."
Bucky smiles, sliding his arm to rest gently around her shoulders. "So, Sam," he says a little loudly, shuffling closer to her. "That a picture you want in your cabin?"
Sam smiles brightly, nodding. He extends his arm above him, fingers fluttering. Wanda peers up at him with a pleased and shy smile. "Up the top, with all the best pictures."
"Hey." Bucky's brows furrow. "You told me those were the ones you wanted to hide from view. They're pictures of everyone here but me."
Pressing his lips together, Sam shrugs. "Not my fault you're butt ugly."
