Author's Note

I do not own Twilight.

Swan was enough to steady them until Heidi's catch came in. They devoured seven humans between them, tearing into the flesh, guzzling down the blood. By the time they felt sated they were a mess, messier from a kill than they'd been in centuries. Blood stained every inch of their skin and soaked their hair. Their clothes were little more than rags. They curled up together by their last kill, lazily lapping up the remaining blood.

Master Aro crossed the hall to kneel beside them. "Do you feel better?"

Jane licked blood from her cheek. "I think so. Thank you Master."

He turned to Alec. "Alec?"

Alec nodded, trembling and hesitant.

"Are you full?" Master Aro asked. "Do you need more?"

Alec looked at Jane. She looked back.

"I'm full," he said.

She nodded. "Likewise."

Master Aro reached to them, smoothing hair from their faces. "I will have Heidi secure some humans to keep aside. In case of emergency."

They bowed their heads. "Thank you Master."

He rose to his feet and offered his hands to help them up. "Are you well to bathe yourselves?"

"We're well, Master," Jane replied. "I think I'm well now."

Alec dragged a bloody hand across his eyes. "I don't know what came over me."

"Whatever occurred to you clearly reduced you to the level of starvation," Master Aro mused. "I am fortunate you brought me such a gift; I regret it had to cause you such distress."

"Will the Cullens be any problem, Master?"

"I believe not. I shall explain the situation to Carlisle."

Jane and Alec exchanged looks.

"It was unfortunate, but couldn't be helped. You are right that it is best the world doesn't see us back down against an army." He ruffled their bloody hair. "Now, run along and change. We shall inform Caius and Marcus of the situation once you are clean."
