AN: I had to go back and fix a massive number of mistakes in the last two chapters because it turns out when you write drunk you make a shit ton of errors. I blame Canada!
"Is it alright if I take blood samples?" Sandy asked as he picked up a syringe.
Shadow looked back at him before sighing in defeat. "I don't think what I want matters much anymore, doctor. Errr… I mean… Sandy." She corrected herself while now looking at the doctor apologetically.
"It's alright." The small male squirrel laughed while giving her a big smile. "I know mah name is odd, and well… my size only adds ta that."
Shadow breathed deep as the doctor put his needle into her arm, and started to draw blood from her.
"I'm really sorry for any discomfort mis-" He then stopped himself and cleared his throat. "I'm sorry , Shadow." He breathed out.
"You're fine doctor Sandy." Shadow let out a small grin from her lips causing Sandy to smile much larger.
Sandy shot the blood into a few closed vials before wiping his hands down with disinfection and offering Shadow to do the same. She just looked at him as if he was insane before playing with the sack of goods, he had brought her again. He was beginning to worder if she was so focused on the items in an attempt to avoid his presents.
The cell door slid open causing Sandy to jump a little, as he was brough back from being lost in his own head. Shadow just looked over her shoulder as the larger male squirrel happily walking into the cell holding a tray of food in each hand. Randy smiled cockily at his smaller brother as the cell door shut behind him.
"Howdy! I hope ya both got some room in yer stomach ta spare!" Randy then set the trays down on the small table in the corner of the room before dragging an extra chair towards it, that happened to originally reside on the other side of the room.
"Randy?" Sandy question more than a bit embarrassed. "I only asked ya to bring one meal for our guest."
"And I did!" The younger twin stated proudly. "I just thought maybe you worked up an appetite as well. Plus seeing as how interested ya are in da outside world I just thought maybe ya two could talk it up some more over some chow." Randy then winked at his brother causing Sandys face to scowl as he tried to fight off the blush that was covering his face and working its way down his neck. "Y'all enjoy yer meal!" Randy grinned as he knocked on the cell door causing it to open for him as he took his leave.
Shadow made her way to the table. She took a seat and started to eat the meal before her without any hesitation, despite the fact Sandy hadn't joined her.
"I apologize fer my brother." Sandy sighed as he looked away from her. "He's an idiot."
"I don't mind. He seems far more worried about you finding someone to share a bed with than me over all." Shadow continued eating as Sandy looked back at her now even more on edge. "I take it you're a virgin. Not that I'm shocked considering with how soft that you are… for a man of your young age that is. You're bother is just hoping you'll take your place in the next stage of manhood. Likely hoping you'll settle for me being that I'm an outsider." Shadow set her utensils down for a moment as she let herself digest. "Or was he completely wrong and you don't even have time to sit with me for a meal?" She looked at him briefly, not even seeming to care about his response to her question, before she started to eat again.
Sandy, still being beyond embarrassed, took a seat next to Shadow. He didn't bother touching his food and looked away as she finished hers up. "I ain't that kinda guy." He managed to let out under his breath as she licked the last of the food off her tray.
"It's fine, doctor. I have no problem with men that prefer the company of other men. I work closely with a few." Shadow set her tray down and looked towards Sandy only to be a bit surprised about his angry glare.
"I don't! I mean I…. I LIKE WOMEN!" He stood up and shouted at her as he felt a flashback to the relentless teasing he received as a child. "I like women." He now stated quietly as he looked at her sadly and took his seat. He placed his face in his hands as he realized he'd been rude. "I'm sorry I just… It's a sore topic fer me."
"So, it seems." Shadow agreed as she watched him try to comfort himself while hiding his face from her. "It's almost humorous… your idea of a scarred childhood consists of you being called homosexual, as where mine, I wouldn't even be able to tell you the amount of times I was beaten and raped before I turned 12. Seems trauma is very subjective to the status your born into in life."
Sandy now looked ashamed and apologetic to her. "I'm so sorry… no girl, or boy, should have to endure such horrors."
"It's just the way life is for many of those of us that continue to live." Shadow now sat back in her chair seemly uncaring about the painful turn in conversation.
"It shouldn't be. If I could I'd pledge my life to ending any mans life that would hurt someone in such a way." Sandy clenched his fists as he looked at Shadow very unaware of how emotional he was getting.
"I've heard more than a few men suggest to be up for such a cause, but this is the first time I believed the man swearing it." Shadow gave Sandy a small smile as she leaned her elbows on the table before pushing the doctor's food tray closer to him. "You should eat too Sandy. I am well aware dealing with me wears any man out."
