Chapter 5: Take it or leave it

It's safe to say that, when applying to Beacon, Vic didn't thought he would end up nearly getting eaten by a gigant Nevermore. Luckily, he managed to activate his semblance in time, otherwise he would've ended up like a bug on the windshield. He had his new 'partner' to thank for this 'thrilling' experience. Yeah, he was supposed to do his job and keep Lia out of trouble just like Haley asked him to. Instead he was stuck with a girl in short skirt, playing Huntress. The only thing that made him feel a little bit better was, the fact that Princess Pinkie was also unhappy.

After their last shouting match, they opted to stay away from each other. While Pink was catching her breath, Vic decided to take a look at the supposed relics. There were some kind of cards on pedestals. Two were missing, Lia and the Schnee girl. He chose one for himself and threw the other at Pink. The girl didn't say anything, just glared at him.

Soon the rest of the students arrived, along with the Grimm. As much as he didn't want to admit it, Vic would've been lying if he said he wasn't intimidated by the army of snarling Beowolves and Ursais. He'd seen a lot of Grimm, but never this many. It didn't take long to realize how screwed they were. The Grimm surrounded them. The only thing protecting their back was the temple, which wasn't very structurally stable.

The chances were against them. Not just because they were outnumbered, but 'cause as quickly realized it, most of them weren't good fighters, to say the least. Outside of him, Pink and some short guy, barely anyone could hold their on against the army Grimm. Lia and the Schnee girl would've been useful, but Vic couldn't find them anywhere.

"Any ideas on what to do?" asked Pink, while shot one of the Beowolves.

"Yeah, we should answer in waves. Send the weaker students first and let them perish." he replied. Pink gave him a starnge look then turned back to the fight muttering something along the line of:

"I'll never ask him ever again."

"Make a circle! The ones with long-range weapons go inside and shoot from there!" some guy yelled. Despite thier efforts, it was still chaos. Vic killed as many Grimm as he could but it wasn't enough. Two students had their aura broken. If this countinues, it won't end well.

Summer barely had any time to process what happened. When the Grimm started attacking, Lia immediately grabbed her by the arm and teleported them on a tree, not far away from the fight.

"This is our chance. We can escape while they're distracting the Grimm and the theachers." the faunus said, but Summer wasn't really listening. She was watching the fight.

Most of the students couldn't take out a Grimm by themselves. Briar, Coat boy and some others managed, but barely. Matt was fighting an Ursai. Summer knuckles became white from gripping her sword too thightly. He couldn't take on an Ursai, he had problems with a Boarbatusk. He'll be fine, he's not her problem. Summer just stood there, not knowing what to do. Matt got hit the Ursai and flew back a few meters. His aura shattered. He'll okay, someone will save him. YOU have to save him!

"No! Summer! Dammit! " Lia shouted, but Summer couldn't hear it. She didn't even know what she was doing. Before her brain could even register it, she started running towards the Ursai and finished it off with a quick swing of her sword. It happened so fast she didn't even notice the other Ursai behind her. Summer turned around, but didn't have time to dodge. Before it could hit her however, she heard a gunshot, then the Grimm collapsed. Lia was standing behind it. "I hope you're happy." she said with unconcealed venom in her voice. "Looks like I'll have to stay." A small smile appeared on Summer's face.

"Let's do this!" with a swing of her sword, Summer incased the Grimm in ice. It didn't necessarily kill them, but made the fight easier. Summer jumped from one ice block to the other, slaying any Grimm that got in her way.

Soon there were only few Grimm left. Lia was about to finish of a Beowolf, when she stopped dead in her track, her ears flickering.

"Something is coming!" just as the words left her mouth, suddenly came an ear-piercing shriek and a gust of wind so strong, it threw Summer several meters back.

"Not this again!" Briar cursed they looked and saw a Nevermore, larger than any Summer'd ever seen before. The Grimm came closer and with a flap of it's wings blew away ice and tore trees of from the ground. Summer managed to avoid getting hit by anything, but other students weren't so lucky. Around three of them had their aura broken. "Any ideas on how to take it down?"

"It's a bird, right? Just make a giant window." suggested Coat boy half-jokingly. Summer had time ti gave him a dissaproving glare, before they got hit with a gust of wind, again. The Nevermore was too far away. None of their weapons could reach it and even they could, it would still blew them away. If only they could get rid of it's wings...

"I have a plan!" Summer declared. "Lia! You lure it closer by teleporting in front of it." the faunus girl nodded. "Coat boy!" she turned to the blonde." Can your swords use dust?"

"Yeah." he replied. Summer reached into her bag and threw a vial to him.

"Ice dust. Lia lures it to use, then we incase it's wings in ice and when it's down we kill it." she explianed.

"Okay."

"Got it. "

"Go!" Lia quickly disappeared. Summer and Vic got ready. Lia soon appeared closer and closer, with the Nevermore in her tail. When she was on the ground Summer and Vic swung their swords, freezing it's wings. The Nevermore screeched again and flapped it's wings, blew the ice down. The chunk of ice hit Vic, causing him to flew back. It didn't work. They needed a new plan. He immediately started looking for Summer, but couldn't find her anywhere. Where was she? Is was she dead? Her aura broke? Suddenly he saw her. Descending from the sky, jamming her blade into the Nevermore's skull.

Summer didn't say anything. Just jumped down from the desolving remains of the Grimm, putting her sword back into it's case.

"Summer!" Briar immediately threw her arms around her sister, trapping her in a deathly embrace again. Summer let out a deep sigh. Looks like she'll have to stay for awhile.

Lia wasn't happy. Well it wasn't anything new, she hasn't been happy ever since arriving to Beacon, but this was something else. This was rage. She wanted to beat the shit out of Vic and Summer for putting her in this situation in the first place. The only thing holding her back that the negativity would attract Grimm and she really didn't have the energy to deal with those too. When they arrived back they gave back the cards and they had to go to the infirmary for a check up. The injured students got treated, while the others were free to. Perfect time to have looooong conversation with Vic.

She was waiting for him on the hallway. The doctor took him away for a private check-up. Lia didn't understand what all this fuss was about. Vic once said something about faunus traits being 'easy to identify by', but it's not like that black leather coat, which he used to hide his wings, was any less conspicouos. When the boy left the infirmary, Lia immediately grabbed his arm and dragged across the hallway.

"What's the hurry for?"

"We need to talk. " Lia replied briefly as they entered the girls'restroom. Lia made sure that they were alone, then locked the door.

"Aren't you what the people who saw you drag me here will think?" Vic asked with a smug grin on his face, but before he could continue, Lia kicked him in the stomach.

"That's for the chemistry lab." the girl declared and was about to punch him in the face, but Vic grabbed her hand. "What the hell are you doing here?!" Lia's eyes were burning into him. If glares could kill, he would've been dead.

"Haley sent me." he answered truthfully. "She's concerned about you. We think it's best if you stay here." For a brief second Lia's expression changed and her rage replaced by worry.

"I don't care what you think is best. " she spat.

"You should." Vic snapped. "Just because they aren't searching for you right know, that doesn't mean you're safe." Lia looked away. She didn't need to be reminded.

"I just wanna go home." her voice was so soft, it was barely audible. Her ears flattened while her left arm unconsciously started squeezing the right. Vic was about to put his hand on Lia's shoulder, but she backed away. Suddenly there was a knocking a the door.

"Guys! I don't want to interrupt anything, but the ceremony is going to start soon." said Briar's voice from outside. Lia looked at Vic one more time, then left.

Summer was concerned. She expected getting a lot of shit from Lia for what She did, but... The faunus girl was oddly quiet, ever since she got back from the restroom. She hadn't said anything, just stared at her feat.

"Are you all right?" she asked, but didn't get a response. Summer reached out to touch her shoulder, but Lia flinched and pulled away. For moment Summer saw something in her eyes. Panic? It quickly disappeared and her expression returned to the usual disinterest.

"What?"

"Are you all right?" Summer repeated the question.

"I'll manage." she mumbled. "Hey, it's your friend's turn." Summer knew she was lying, but decided not to say anything and turn her attention back to the ceremony.

"Opal Bili, Levi Botond, Matthias Goose, David Aurum. The four of you retrieved the king cards. From this day forward, you will work together as team GOLD. " Headmistress Goodwitch announced. "Led by Matthias Goose."

"Looks like you're the one-eyed king in the land of the blind. " Summer commented jokingly as the newly formed team left the stage. Matt opened his mouth to answer, but was interrupted by Headmistress Goodwitch.

"Summer Schnee"

"Well good luck." he said, as Summer walked up to the stage. She was slightly nervous. It was stupid. She wasn't going to stay anyway so it didn't matter who her teammates are going to be.

"Liana Belladonna-Xiao-Long, Victor Eil, Briar Rose. The four of you retrieved the ace cards. From this day forward, you Will work together as team SLVR. Led by Summer Schnee. " Summer felt her heart stop. She wasn't sure she heard it right. Her brain couldn't process the information. This can't be happening. This is a joke. No one in their right mind would make her team leader.

"What?" she finally managed to blurt out, still in shock.

"Are you shitting me?" Lia asked, as surprised as Summer was.

"I'm so proud! You're gonna be the best team leader!" Briar cheered and gave her another bonecrushing hug.

"Well... Thanks..."Summer mumbled as she finally managed to comprehend what happened. " I... I have to go..." she slowly started backing away, then running.

"She's running away!"

"Some catch her!"

"Hold her down!"

So this is it. I hope you enjoyed it.

I know SLVR and GOLD is used a lot as team names, but it actually has a purpose. Summer alludes to the dancing princess who sneaked out at night to dance with demons and devils. So the princesses go through three forests a silver forest, a golden forest and a diamond forest. I wanted all three materials to apppear in the story, so Summer has silver eyes and her team is named SLVR, GOLD is their sister team and her sword is called Diamont Wedge.
