Chapter 5: She is Everything
Adrian was good at hiding his feelings. After many months, he was able to hide the pain of losing his Mother through all the extracurricular activities his Father forced him to do. Piano, Chinese classes, fencing, tutoring, and the list goes on.
He always thought that being Chat Noir was his escape from the life that his Father molded for him. Freedom to be who he really was; a charming, outgoing, loving hero. But what really brought out the best in him was Marinette. She brought out a side of him that he could only dream of. As Ladybug, she made him brave, observant, and patient, while Marinette taught him how to be kind, grounded, and positive.
She brought so much colour into his dark, shut-in life. What in the world would he do without it, now that he has seen the real beauty life has with her in it?
Chloe and Alya held Adrian as he cried into Marinette's shoulder. Nino was the only one standing between them and their enemies. Though he was shaking and tired, he was the turtle miraculous holder and was determined to protect his friends; with or without his powers.
Hawkmoth dropped his staff. Perhaps he had taken this too far. He never wanted to kill anyone, let alone this child. But, he has fallen too far from the path of good, it was too late for him to fix things. Once he gets their miraculous, everything will go back to the way they were. He will have his son and wife back. All of the evil and destruction he caused would be forgotten. Yes, he must finish what he started.
Nino gasped as Hawkmoth fell onto his knees. "Forgive me, Adrian. This wasn't supposed to happen."
All eyes were on his son, but Adrian refused to respond. Instead, he held Marinette closer, trying to hold onto her.
The man looked up to his son. He wished that he could have spared him the pain of losing someone he loved, but maybe this was what needed to be done in order to change his mind. "Adrian, give me your miraculous. We can fix this! We will bring Marinette and your Mother back. Everything will be as it should be. Trust me, son. For once, do as I ask!"
Adrian's head shot up, his eyes filled with wrath. "I have done everything you've ever wanted! How many times do we have to tell you that the price for using this magic will have terrible consequences? After Mother died, I needed my Father, but you're the one who pushed me away. I became the perfect son so that you would love me, but all I've gotten in return is everything I love stripped away!" the boy screamed.
Placing Marinette down, he shakily stood on his feet while putting on her earrings. "I will not let you take them, Gabriel. Tikki, spots on!" The boy immediately transformed.
"I will save her, Tikki. Let's do this quickly. Lucky Charm!" Adrian said while taking out his yo-yo, preparing to strike. The others got out of his way and went over to protect Mari. While running over to Hawkmoth a mini-safe dropped into his hands. He hooked it to his belt before attacking; there was no time to figure out what he could use it for.
The yo-yo wrapped tightly around Hawkmoth's arm, but as he reached for his staff, Mayura quickly grabbed it and swung it right into his face. Hawkmoth fell over with a painful grunt. Mister Bug looked at her in shock but held his grip on his Father.
The villain growled, "What are you going? How dare you!"
"I-I'm sorry, Sir. I cannot allow you to do this!"
The man desperately tried to get out. He didn't want another child to die today, but if it was the only choice, he wouldn't hesitate to finish the job. "Please, Nathalie. You don't understand! I'm doing this for my family," he pleaded.
The woman shook her head. "I-I love you, Gabriel. I'm sure you know that by now, and I have always been loyal to you. But, I also care about Adrian, a-and I won't let you kill him," she cried, lifting his staff over her head to slam it onto the ground. It shattered, and the akuma was released.
"NO!" Gabriel yelled desperately, but his powers already left and he returned to his true form. Nooroo was exhausted, and couldn't let Gabriel be Hawkmoth any longer.
Releasing his Father, Mister bug threw his yo-yo into the air. "Time to de-evilize!" he snatched the akuma and it was now free again as a pure butterfly.
Mayura began to lose the feeling of the world around her. She held her head and began to lose consciousness, "I'm sorry, Adrian," she whispered before passing out.
Gabriel was not ready to lose. So, while Nathalie was unconscious, he took the peacock miraculous from her and transformed.
A wave of dizziness overcame him right away, but he used the fan that formed in his hands to hit Mister Bug, causing the boy to stumble back. "You will obey me!"
Mister Bug did his best to avoid his Father's attacks as he was swung at him frantically with rage. "You've ruined everything, Adrian!" he screamed punching his son right on the nose with a loud crack.
The boy screamed in pain as he fell to the ground. Everything hurt. Adrian didn't know how long he could keep this up, he was so burnt out. The ache in his chest never left, and he wanted to give up. But he couldn't, not when there was still a chance to save Marinette.
Hawkmoth trudged over to Mister Bug, and grabbed him by the neck, choking him. The boy thrashed in his grasp, trying to gasp for air, but his hold was too tight. "It's over," Hawkmoth stated while reaching his arm out to take off the earrings.
In a final attempt to escape, Mister Bug swung his legs around Hawkmoth's arm, and twisted with all his might, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the concrete. Out of spite, the boy kicked Hawkmoth hard in the face. "That's for breaking my nose!"
He scrambled to get on his feet first and suddenly saw a way to use his lucky charm. Removing the lucky charm from his belt, he used his yo-yo once again to trap Hawkmoth. The man grunted and tried his best to break free, with no prevail.
Mister Bug kicked his chest to the ground leaving him pinned and defenseless, "that is for hurting my friends!" he cried out before ripping both the peacock and butterfly miraculous off his chest. He also searched for the bee miraculous which was hidden in his front pocket and sighed in relief.
Gabriel screamed, transforming once again. "And this is for Marinette!" Adrian placed all of the miraculous into the safe, locked it, and threw it into the air chanting, "miraculous, Mister Bug!"
Ladybugs began repairing the damage throughout the city. They rebuilt the Agreste mansion and flew over Marinette's body. The miraculous returned to Marinette's chest in her room that safely held the kwami's. Nooroo and Disu were finally home.
Adrian was breathing heavily. He did it, it's over. He transformed back, and Plagg immediately flew out of his shirt pocket. "Kid, go check on her. She needs you," he said sincerely.
Without missing a beat, Adrian ran over to his friends and dropped to his knees before them. Alya was holding Marinette, but nothing has happened. Were they too late? They all held their breaths, hoping for any sign of life; but there was none.
"Ardian, I'm so sorry," Nino whispered, placing a hand on his shoulder. Chloe did the same.
Adrian didn't know why he bothered fighting his tears. He needed her back. Instinctively, he took Marinette from Alya's arms. She let her go gently and helped the boy hold her. Mari's wounds were gone, but she still wasn't breathing.
"Hey, princess, we did it. We saved the day again… y-you saved me," the boy sobbed, his voice cracking.
Tikki flew out and touched Marinette's cheek. "Marinette, please, you're Ladybug. You have to be strong!" the kwami cried out to her master.
Focusing her good energy, the kawmi did what was never done before; she was going to save her best friend. The kwami's were forbidden to use their powers, for it was too unstable and could cause too much damage-just like what Plagg did. But this time, Tikki was willing to take the risk.
"Tikki, you can't do that. You know what might happen!" Plagg interjected, but the red kwami ignored him.
"Bring me back my Marinette, please!" the kawmi cried, as a beam of pink light surrounded the teens. They all had to close their eyes to shield themselves from the bright magic.
Everything felt good and warm. The sun began to peek through the sky. The teens remained completely still, hoping Tikki's magic worked. Hoping that for once, this miracle would bring back the girl they all knew and loved.
Marinette's eyes began to flutter open, then she gasped, as her lungs opened and were finally filled with air. Alya laughed and began to cry tears of joy while Nino engulfed her into a bear hug. Even Chloe was brought to tears as she held Marinette's hand and smiled.
Adrian felt like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. He couldn't contain his joy, she was back, the love of his life was back. Tikki smiled but looked terribly tired. Adrian dug through Marinette's purse and handed her a macaroon, which she ate graciously.
The girl began to take in her surroundings, still quite sore and exhausted. "A-Adrian?" she croaked.
The boy smiled. "I'm here, Marinette, right here" tears began to fall at the sound of her voice. He smiled and began stroking her hair comfortingly.
Moving her sore arm up to her lover's cheek, she gently brushed away his tears. The boy leaned his cheek into her palm, praying that this wasn't a dream, that now she would always be by his side, forever. "Don't cry, my prince. I'm right here. I'm okay."
"Y-yes," Adrian sobbed, "you're right here. You won't leave me again!"
Marinette giggled softly. "Of course, Adrian. I will never leave you."
Unable to control himself, he leaned down to plant a kiss onto Mari's lips. She felt like home, like light, like a breath of fresh air. She was everything.
He pulled back to see that his girlfriend's cheeks flushed a soft pink. The others decided to break up the lover's moment and tacked each other into a group hug.
They laughed, cried, and just held each other close.
Marinette sighed out of joy. Now, everything was perfect. Not perfect in the way everything was going to be good, but in the way that her heart was full once again. It was perfectly imperfect. No anger or sadness or worry was on the girl's mind. She was surrounded by the people she loved the most, and that was all she could ever ask for.
"I told you I would love you forever," Marinette whispered as she wrapped her arms around Adrian's neck. He chuckled and hugged her tightly.
"I know, M'lady."
