Dreaming upon Dreaming

A flash of lightening. Thunder claps in the distance. It's raining.

"Harry look out!" a voice shouts. Harry looks up and ducks a spell that just flew by over him and hits the Death Eater that was near him and slams the person into a wall. The body falls not moving. It was the Killing Curse.

Harry looks to see who told him to move but sees no one in the storm that is in and all around them. With this rain it's impossible to see a damn thing.

"I've told you Harry Potter. You cannot win. I am power, I am EVERYTHING!" Voldemort shouts.

Harry looks around but sees no one. The voice is coming from all directions.

"Did you really think she would stay beside you? Haha! Foolish boy. Did you really think she would give up her claim to MY power? My legacy.? SHE IS MY LEGACY POTTER! She is my power, my all! You will die because of her!" Voldemort's voice rang throughout the courtyard.

Hogwarts was in ruins. There was fire everywhere and the castle looked demolished.

"Harry." Said that voice from earlier. He looked around and finally saw a figure standing amongst rubble. The figure was in dark purple robes with green outlines. The outlines were a snake. It slithered along her robes almost like it was dancing.

"Harry." The figure said.

"Who are you!" he cried.

"Harry." The voice continued. The figure pointed a wand at him. The figure seemed about ten feet away.

"What do you want from me?" Harry cried. Lightening flashed again as did thunder clap. But what shocked Harry was that the lightning bolt shot down and seemed to go through the figure.

"Harry." The person kept repeating with their wand pointed at him. He got up and pointed his wand just in case.

"What do you want?" Harry said again.

The figure went to remove their hood. Harry couldn't see who it was. Their face was fuzzy to his eyes. He rubbed his eyes and tried to wipe his glasses thinking it was from the rain but it wasn't. He still couldn't see. Upon looking closer, where the eyes should have been, he made out glowing white orbs.

Voldemort continued laughing in the background.

"Harry." The figure said.

"Who are you?" Harry yelled.

"It's the only way Harry." The voice said. He could make out now it was feminine.

"What is? What is the only way?" Harry replied.

"It's the only way. You must kill me Harry." The figure said.

Harry lowered his wand and looked confused. He stared at the figure before him. Lightening flashed and seemed to go through the figure with glowing white eyes again. Almost like she was part of the lightening itself. The snake continued to slither around her deep purple robes.

"Haha Harry. She is the power. She is everything." Voldemort said. He continued to laugh but Harry could not see him he could not see anything but the figure in front of him. Of what she said, she seemed saddened. Almost like she gave up. Before he could ask anything more his scar started hurting.

"Ahh!" Harry bolted up in bed.

"What the bloody hell was that?" Harry mumbled to himself. He looked over at the others and they were still sleeping. Thankfully they were unaware of Harry's dream. He laid back down and stared up at the canopy. He didn't know what the dream meant, but he knew it wasn't good.

"Emerald!"

"You have to. I can't keep…." Emerald kept mumbling in her sleep.

"Emerald wake up!" hissed Pansy as she shook Emerald.

Finally, Emerald sat up suddenly looking around frantic. "Emerald, shh, it's me, Pansy. You're ok." Pansy said as she held Emerald close. "It was just another bad dream."

"Pans, I, I, I'm sorry," Emerald sighed hugging her friend back.

"Don't be silly it's ok." Pansy replied letting Emerald go. "They're getting worse aren't they? You're sweating this time." Pansy wiped Emerald forehead with her hand.

"I don't know what it means. I can't see anything at all in the dreams. I don't know what's going on to be honest. I just get feelings of sadness, dread, evil." Emerald whispered the last part.

"It'll be ok. Just some nightmare brought on by too much studying Emers. Got take a shower and go back to sleep. Want me to wait for you?" Pansy asked.

"What time is it?" Emerald rubbed her eyes.

"it's four," Pansy replied.

"Oh no Pans go back to sleep. I'm going to go fly around the pitch and come back up and shower. Clear my head." Emerald said shoving the covers off.

"Emerald," began Pansy.

"Pans really I'm fine." Emerald hugged Pansy again. "Go back to sleep. I'll see you for breakfast." Emerald smiled and made her way to change and Pansy just looked after her friend worried etched on her face.

Emerald quietly got dressed and made her way to the common room. She passed by the windows of the lake. It seemed the giant squid was swimming around.

"You're up early." Emerald whispered, her hand on the glass window. A tentacle slid along the window where her hand was and disappeared.

"You have a knack with any creature don't you?" asked a voice from the couch.

Emerald jumped and there sat Draco with his arms crossed leaning back in the couch.

"Draco!" Emerald hissed as she made her way over to the couch. "What are you doing up?"

"Might ask you the same thing sis?" he quirked an eyebrow looking at her.

"Oh don't get your eyebrow lost in your hair, bad dream, I'm going to the pitch to let off some steam."

"Want some company? I can go change." He said getting up from the couch.

"No Drac. I need some space sometimes. Lately I've been feeling suffocated."

Draco gave her a hurtful look.

"No Drac! Not like that. Just need some head space." Emerald smiled sadly and went to walk over to the portrait hole. She was grabbed from behind and got sucked into a hug.

"I'm worried for you Ems. You've never been like this. Seems it's getting worse. Mom and Dad aren't here. I said I'd take care of you, always." Draco mumbled into her shoulder.

"Oh Draco, just you being here. Helps more than you know. And, we take care of each other alright?" She asked moving from his hug to look at him. He nodded and she kissed him on the cheek. She made her way out of the portrait hole but before it closed, "Draco, also," he looked at her, "hurry up and decide on that crush on Hermione. She won't last long with Krum around." She winked and left. She didn't see Draco turn twenty shades of red behind her.

Down on the pitch Emerald inhaled the night air.

"Ah, this is what I need." She sighed and got on her broom and did a once over to make sure she was alone and went to fly. She didn't know how long she had been flying but the sky was starting to turn yellow and pink. She hopped off her broom and went to remove her ponytail. Her long black hair got free and whirled around her everywhere. She took her hair, which was down by her hips and lifted it up with her fingers. "Maybe I should cut it." She mumbled.

"That would be a tragedy." A voice said near her.

She jumped and twirled around, her wand in her hand. "Who said that?"

"Nice reflexes."

She turned and Professor Garrett was standing there, not six feet from her.

"How'd you do that?" she asked looking around nervously.

"Do you really want to know?" he asked in a low voice.

That voice sent shivers down her spine, but she wasn't about to let that show.

"Not really Professor. What are you doing out here anyway?" she asked stowing her wand back in her sleeve.

"Out for a stroll." He said like it was the most natural thing in the world.

"At this time?" she asked.

"Well might I ask the same question to you Miss Malfoy. Clearly you're breaking curfew to fly a broom." He smirked.

'Most annoying smirk in the world!' She looked at him, "I had to clear my head. Professor Snape will clear my name if that's what you need."

"Are you alright?" his smirk turned to concern.

She was taken aback by how fast he changed his emotions. He seemed almost concerned for her. She didn't show that little bit of concern made her happy. "I'm fine. Just bad dreams is all." She got her broom, "anyway Professor nice to see you. See you at breakfast."

"Miss Malfoy!" he took a step towards her.

She turned around and looked at his outstretched hand. He looked at it and retracted it.

"Ahem, excuse me. A word of advice if I may?"

She regarded him for a few seconds then nodded for him to continue.

"I always find writing dreams down a way to figure them out. Or if it's a particular nasty dream, I'd write it down, then throw it into the fire to forget." His eyes seem to hold more than he told. She felt captivated by his eyes. A deep amber.

Emerald shook her head remembering her place. "Well thank you Professor Garrett, I'll keep that in mind." She nodded to him again and she walked away from him and the pitch, fast. She wanted to put as much distance between herself and him as much as possible. She found her heart beating rapidly and she knew it wasn't because of her walking fast, and she chose to ignore that little fact.

She completely forgot about cutting her hair.

It's been two weeks and Emerald hasn't had another dream, thankfully. So she was able to sleep. She couldn't however, get the previous one out of her mind. She didn't understand it at all. She decided to put it from her mind and talk about it with Hermione and Luna. Luna had become part of group with Harry, Hermione, Neville, and Ron. Harry seemed captivated by her. Emerald couldn't be happier Harry found someone to like. It was about time too. Now if only she could get her dumb brother to snag Hermione before someone else does.

Thinking how she was going to do just that she found herself one night taking a jog with Cedric near the forbidden forest.

"Tell me honestly Ced, you don't think I'm a nutter?" she asked as they jogged.

"For Draco and Hermione, no love. Never a nutter, maybe a few trips to St Mungo's and back probably." He said.

"Hey!" She punched him and they fell and rolled over in the grass laughing. He ended up slightly on top her as they lay in the grass. He put his hand against her check and rubbed it.

"You are beautiful." He smiled.

Her breathe got caught as he leaned down and kissed her. The kiss slowly got more intense as they heard a loud roar.

They both jerked up. "What the bloody hell was that?" Emerald asked a little winded.

"I've no idea." Cedric said as he stood up. Emerald put her hand out and he took it and helped her up. Again there was another roar.

"That's coming from inside the forest." Emerald said. Cedric went to stand in front of her with his wand. She summoned hers from her leg strap as well. "Let's go." She whispered pushing Cedric to go forward.

"Are you sure that's wise?" he asked looking back at her.

"Honestly love, where's your sense of adventure?" Emerald walked around him, grabbed his shirt and pulled him along.

He smirked and sighed, "Are you sure you shouldn't be in Gryffindor?"

She turned and pointed her wand to her shoulder and the other hand on her hip, "I may be brave for checking this out, but I'm not so stupid one, to go alone, and two, I'm not rushing in with my wand held high, I'm being cautious." She turned and headed towards the roars again.

Cedric couldn't keep serious and laughed. He followed her in. They were quiet, making sure not to be seen by anything. They were about a half mile in when they heard footsteps.

"Here you go Olympe. As I promised." Came the voice of Hagrid.

Emerald and Cedric hid behind a tree and some brush about ten feet away so they wouldn't be seen.

"ROOOAAARRRRR!"

"Cedric!" Emerald hissed.

"I see them Emerald." Cedric hissed back.

"Oh Hagird, c'est magnifique! Can we go closer?" Madame Maxime said as her and Hagrid got closer to the creatures.

"This is a bit much for the first task, but Dumbledore assured me everything would be ok." Hagrid said. "Although that Horntail is a nasty peace of work."

Cedric and Emerald ran and made it out without being seen.

"What are they thinking?!" Emerald shouted as she paced back and forth.

"Love…it's…" Cedric started.

"Dragons?! The first task? You could get killed! Harry could get killed!" Emerald hissed.

"Love calm down." Cedric took her shoulders to shake her.

"Ced, you and Harry could DIE! How can Dumbledore allow this?" Emerald looked on the verge of tears.

"You heard Hagrid, he said it'd be ok."

"And you believe that?" Emerald's face grew furious. "We need to tell Harry, let's go!" she grabbed his hand and they took off for the castle.

"Dragons? You're serious?" Hermione hissed? Cedric and Emerald nodded.

They found Harry, Hermione, and Ron in the library.

Emerald looked around to make sure no one was listening. She put up a silencing charm so no one would. She knew shouting would start.

"What the bloody hell were they thinking?" Hermione said as she slammed a book closed.

"They've got four, one for each of us." Cedric said sitting down sighing.

"The horntail is the worst. Maybe you won't get that one Harry." Ron mumbled as she looked over his Potions essay. They all looked at him.

"How do you know what kind they had Ron?" asked Harry.

Seeming like he barely registered what he just said Ron looked up at Harry and turned red.

"You knew? You knew and you didn't say anything!" hissed Hermione. Her face matching Ron's embarrassed one.

"Hagrid asked me not to. My brother Charilie…" Ron said.

"Charlie? The same one who helped with Norberta?" asked Emerald. Ron's face grew redder.

"How can you keep something like that from Harry? Even if you didn't want to tell us, you should've told Harry! He could've been preparing. He's your best mate?" Emerald said.

"What do you care? You would've told Cedric and Harry wouldn't have a chance. It's not like you want Harry to win!" yelled Ron slamming his hands down. Everyone was in shock, Emerald's blood boiled.

"I want everyone to do their best. I WANT Harry and Cedric to SURVIVE AND NOT DIE! I would have told them. Why didn't you? Still jealous of him. Still think he put his name in that stupid cup do you? Think he wants to die for fame and glory? He doesn't care about that shit!" Emerald crossed her arms. Everyone was shocked, Emerald rarely cursed like that.

Ron couldn't answer.

"As I thought." Emerald hissed.

Harry shot up from his seat and gathered his things.

"Harry," Hermione whispered.

Harry looked at Ron with disgust and took off. Emerald and Hermione right behind him.

Cedric stayed and looked at Ron.

"What?" mumbled Ron.

"You are a disgrace Weasley. To your family, to your house, to your FRIEND." Cedric shook his head and walked away to catch up with the others.

A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.
