Annabeth POV
"Excuse me, we are running an interrogation," Octavion exclaimed.
I sighed as I looked into the interrogation room from the training room that we were sitting in. Percy was still on the ground, but Thalia started to help him up.
"Yeah, interrogation's over," Thalia snapped angrily.
Her expressions softened when she saw the look of fear and confusion on Percy's face. I still couldn't believe that Percy lost his memory.
Percy didn't know anyone here, including his friends and family.
That must be so scary.
"Octavioin, please come back," Director Chiron said in his earpiece.
Octavion obliged our teacher's words, but he didn't seem too happy. Regardless, he left the room, which left Percy and Thalia alone in the interrogation room.
"Come on, Percy. Let's go home," Thalia said.
"Home?" Percy asked confused.
"Yeah, I know that we're not related, but we are family, regardless. Besides, you used to live with Jason and me in our apartment," Thalia explained gently.
"I don't know you. How can I trust any of you?" Percy asked.
My eyes strained with tears at the prospect that Percy didn't know or trust us. Didn't know and trust me.
Gods, what I would do to hear him call me 'Wise Girl' again.
I quickly wiped my face as I watched Thalia and Percy leave the room. Director Chiron dismissed all of the recruits soon afterward. He didn't look like he was in the mood for questions, so no one asked any even though we probably had questions.
I watched Chiron solemnly leave the room.
"Annabeth, I need to check on Jason and help out if I can," Piper said.
I turned towards her. Piper was very good-hearted, and she was great at handling people. Maybe she'd have success talking to Percy.
"I'll come with you Piper," I said with hope.
We both silently nodded at each other before leaving the facility. We quickly caught up with Thalia and Percy in the hallway.
"Jason's my brother, and he's waiting at the Lake Valor clinic. We think that you should get some of your injuries checked out," Thalia explained to Percy as we approached.
"That's a really good idea," I said softly.
Thalia and Percy both turned to me. Thalia's gaze washed over me, and I could see disapproval in her eyes. I didn't know why though.
Percy looked damaged. Some of his bruises were still showing on his body, and he was limping. His forehead had a bruise now due to Octavion's punch.
"I don't think you are needed," Thalia said harshly.
I implicitly winced at her words and tone.
"Maybe they can join us," Percy said.
Thalia turned to Percy in shock and confusion. Even I watched Percy. There was a certain glint in his eyes that I couldn't place. However, there was also pain.
"She saved me," Percy expressed softly before looking downcast.
Thalia gently rubbed Percy's arm. Honestly, I wanted to do the same. I wanted to take Percy's hand and comfort him, but I couldn't.
"All right, let's go to the clinic," Thalia said.
Piper and I both nodded as we followed Thalia and Percy in silence. Percy's body was tense as I walked next to him, but he slowly relaxed.
Dr. Will Solace was already waiting at the infirmary with Jason by his side. If I remembered correctly, Percy and Will knew each other. Obviously, Percy would have to get checked out after each elite mission that he performed.
More often than not, injuries occurred on missions, especially high-profile missions that Percy received due to his talents as a special agent.
"Percy, it's so good to see you," Dr. Solace said softly.
He hesitantly gave Percy a hug. Percy quickly pushed him away as he sucked a breath. Yeah, Percy had bruises all over him.
Jason helped Percy to a bed.
The clinic had private rooms and a large public room with a dozen beds.
"Jason, let's actually take Percy to a private room," Dr. Solace said firmly.
"I agree," Thalia confirmed quickly. We all agreed that Percy deserved his privacy, especially in the vulnerable state he was in.
Jason put Percy's arm around his shoulder as he helped Percy walk towards a private medical room to the left. Dr. Solace followed close behind with a few reports in hand.
Thalia stopped Piper and me before we could follow.
"I don't think that you should be here, Annabeth," Thalia said firmly.
I gulped as I stared at her. Thalia could be very intimidating when she wanted to just like me. Right now, her tone said not to argue with her.
The look in her eyes expressed that she knew about Percy and me.
"Thalia, I don't understand why. What problem do you have against Annabeth?" Piper asked.
"She knows the answer to that question, Piper," Thalia said.
"It's fine," I said as I blinked back the tears. "Just please go in there and keep me updated, Pipes."
Piper nodded in confusion but went into Percy's medical room.
"Thalia, so you know about Percy's and my relationship," I said firmly.
"Of course I know," Thalia snapped.
"Then, you should know how much I care about Percy. I can really help him with this. Percy lost his memory, but he can possibly get it back," I said in hope.
I really wanted to help and be around Percy.
I gulped in anticipation as I looked at Thalia's intense expressions.
"No. Percy told me about your relationship as soon as he realized he was falling in love with you. However, the last thing you said to Percy was that you didn't love him back. You said that you wanted to break it off with him," Thalia said boldly.
I felt tears fill my eyes because of how correct she was.
Percy had said that he loved me and wanted to move forward. I had rejected that and broke up with him right before Percy went on his last mission.
If you looked from my perspective it made sense.
I could've lost everything if our secret relationship came out even though Percy reassured me that nothing would happen. I couldn't take that risk. However, I didn't realize then that Percy was worth that risk.
I took a shallow breath as I nodded.
I didn't know what I could or should say. I had no words. I silently walked out of the clinic.
As I traveled through the modern hallways of Lake Valor, I passed several agents and recruits. Everyone was talking about the same thing: Percy Jackson.
Honestly, I didn't even blame them.
But, I hated this. Our relationship started a secret, and it ended as a secret. As such, I couldn't help Percy in any way, and I technically had no right to help either.
...
I wasn't sure why Director Chiron wanted to see me today. It was the day after Percy was saved. Thalia and Jason had taken Percy home and were slowly explaining things to him according to Piper.
Of course, Piper and I still had training, so I couldn't get an update today.
"Director Chiron, you wanted to see me," I said as I opened the door to his office.
I was surprised to see Agents La Rue and Zhang sitting there.
"Err, sorry, I didn't realize that I was interrupting," I said quickly. I started to close the door again, but Chiron stopped me.
"No, Annabeth, this meeting is over. Please stay," Chiron said warmly.
Agents La Rue and Zhang got up and made their way out of Chiron's office. Frank smiled at me warmly before leaving.
I walked into Chiron's office and sat opposite him.
His office was simple. Chiron was sitting at his desk, which was organized with electronics and paper reports. His walls were lined with pictures of graduated recruits' classes.
There were a few pictures of him with his most gifted agents.
Of course, Percy was one of them.
"Sorry about this. I was just talking with Agents Clarisse and Frank about joining the recruit training. They'll be two of the many agents that will be training the recruits (including yourself) for the next few months," Chiron explained.
"That's nice. They are very gifted," I said honestly.
Agents Clarisse and Frank were both good agents. After all, I saw how they worked on our mission that took down the BlodgeHarm facility and saved Percy.
Chiron nodded with a smile.
"So, you wanted to talk to me, Director," I acknowledged.
"Yes, first, call me Chiron. Anyway, this conversation is about Percy Jackson," Chiron said firmly.
My heart raced as I looked at Chiron's wise face.
"Um, my team and I saved Agent Jackson on our mission yesterday. I don't know what else we would need to talk about," I expressed gently.
"I know about your relationship with Percy, Annabeth," Chiron said with a sigh.
I nodded. I expected as much. I prepared myself for the consequences of holding a secret relationship with a special agent.
A recruit and an agent dating was forbidden according to the rules.
"You're not in trouble, Annabeth. I promised Percy that nothing would happen to you once your relationship comes out. Besides, your relationship is still a secret as far as anyone's concerned," Chiron explained.
"Wait, Chiron, you promised Percy as in-"
I faltered off in confusion.
"Percy came directly to me when he realized that your relationship was developing into something more. He wanted to make sure that if your relationship came out, it would not affect you as a recruit in training," Chiron said firmly.
I stared at Chiron in shock as my mind wandered.
I felt tears spark my eyes, but I didn't let them out.
Of course, Percy would look after me like this. Percy was amazing, protective, and respectful of me. He wanted to make sure that I'd be okay if/when our relationship became serious and open.
I nodded as I wiped a tear from my cheek.
"Thank you for telling me, Chiron," I said softly.
"Percy is an amazing man, Annabeth, and he loved you deeply. This is why I wanted to ask for your help in acclimating Percy back to Lake Valor."
"What do you mean, Chiron?" I asked.
"I've already talked to Percy and his family about this. Percy is a gifted agent, but he just forgot how to be an agent. We're going to put him back into training to make him an agent again," Chiron said.
I simply stared at Chiron in shock.
However, his words made sense. A lot of combat and weaponry skills were muscle memory. it would be easy to pick up again.
Percy was an extraordinary agent, and he could learn and train again.
"Plus, the familiar setting and people could possibly trigger his memories again. After all, this is his home," I explained further.
Chiron smiled. "That is the hope, child. That's why I want you to help Percy out. He loved you and was very close to you, so being with you can help him as well."
"I've already gotten this course of action approved by Dr. Solace as well as Lake Valor's board of directors," Chiron said firmly.
I smiled at Chiron's plan.
Percy could be an agent again. He trained to become a gifted agent before, so he could do it again with the help of his colleagues, friends, and family.
Moreover, I'd be able to be near Percy again and take care of him.
I try to update at least once every day. The next chapter is gonna be important, so stay tuned.
