~Flashback~

Three years ago:

Prudence sits in the small garden outside the Bennett house as she watches her two cousins, Mary and Constance do magic. She puts her leg up and rests her chin on her knee as the cool summer breeze blew in her direction.

As her cousins turn to glance over at her moments later, she lifts her head up, but when they quickly shift their eyes to get back to what they were doing, she shuts her eyes and breathes out a quiet sigh. Prudence is an only child, while they had each other and because of that it meant that she felt left out and alone while growing up. Although they were her around her age but only a few years older, they were already excelling at their magic each and every day and living up to the name of the Bennett bloodline, while she felt the opposite.

Minutes later, the young witch looks back up to see her mother, Priscilla Bennett making her way over to her whilst carrying a basket in her arms.

"I'm going out to pick your favorite apples, care to join me?" Priscilla asks, tilting her head to the side and holding out her hand for her to grab onto.

Prudence's pushes her head back to look up at the bright smile forming on her face. "Well, I can't say no to apples" she smiles back and takes her hand, before going to get up from the ground with her help.

With that, the mother and daughter then turns to head inside the woods with her cousins watching their every move while whispering to themselves. Prudence watches as her mother trails of in-front of her, humming a song along the way. This woman that she's spent the past sixteen years of her life with is truly the best thing to ever happen to her. They aren't just mother and daughter, but also best friends, two peas in a pod even. Priscilla had her when she was only a teenage girl and although she wasn't expecting to raise a child that young on her own as Prudence's father wasn't around, the two instantly became inseparable when she gave birth and have been ever since.

"Mother" Prudence calls, drawing her attention a short while later.

Priscilla stops dead in her tracks and turns around to face her, a smile slowly fading away as she notices the gloomy and dim expression on daughter's face. "Pru... what is the matter, is everything alright?" she asks with concern in her voice.

Prudence shuts her eyes and sighs before speaking up. "Am I... Am I useless?" the young witch questions, trying to stop her lips from quivering as she laces her fingers together.

Pursing her lips together and widening her eyes, Priscilla slowly places the basket on the ground, before going to take a couple steps towards her daughter. "No daughter of mine is useless" she whispers, placing her hand down on both her shoulders and gazing into her eyes.

"Mary and Constance treat me like I am, like I'm an outcast who doesn't belong in this family, everybody else does this too especially Aunt Beatrice and-"

"Prudence listen to me" Priscilla utters, stopping her from saying another word. "I know that this family has high expectations. When I was your age I was pregnant with you and it was tough, being in touch with my magic and learning how to be a proper mother to you" she explains, slowly cupping her cheeks. "And I was scared to death, but when I had you it was the best day of my life... from that moment I knew you were special".

Priscilla runs her hands down her daughter's cheek, before going to remove her ruby necklace around her neck.

"That's your necklace" Prudence whispers.

"And I'm giving it to you" says Priscilla, helping her to wear it around her neck. "So that when we aren't together you'll know that I'm still here with you and I'll always come back to you. I love you more than anything and I promise to always protect you always. You have no idea how special and how strong you are, Prudence, and someday, no matter how long it takes you're going to find out and I can't wait for that day".

As her mother finishes her sentence, Prudence shoots her a wide smile. "I love you always" she mutters quietly.

"I love you more" Priscilla replies.

She goes to pull her in for a hug, but stops as she looks ahead, the expression on her face slowly changing. Prudence furrows her eyebrows and turns around to see her Aunt Beatrice stood watching them with a hollow and stern expression.

"C'mon, lets go" Priscilla utters, turning back around to go pick up the basket. Prudence shifted her eyes away from her Aunt Beatrice and turns back around to follow behind her mother, still feeling her sharp gaze burning through her back with each and every step she took.

~End of flashback~

Not even the sound of her own voice could shake her from her pain and distress. The young witch sits on a stool in her bedroom surrounded by the Mikaelsons who were still gazing at her like they had seen a ghost, seeing as she had come back to life right before their very eyes.

Lifting her hand up to grasp her mother's ruby necklace, tears begin to form in her eyes as that particular memory of them clouds her mind, which shakes her to a core she isn't sure she could contain for any longer. The silence of the room made her blood boil as the early summer air crept through the open window. Bereft of any wind the leaves outside hung limp until they fell of their own accord. There is no whispering noise or rustling. Its as if nature conspired to keep her in the dark at that very moment, not daring to whisper the reassurance that she so desperately craved.

After a short while, she lifts her head to look up at the siblings, then at Klaus. She watches as he slowly makes his way over to her, stopping to stare down at her for a little while, before opening his mouth to break the silence in the room that no one had dared to till now.

"Well... start talking" he mutters, locking deep eye-contact with her.

"Niklaus" Elijah sighs, going to take a step forward.

"Now's not the time for your noble interruption, Elijah" Klaus snaps, turning around to roll his eyes at his big brother, before he slowly turns his attention back to Prudence. "We're all waiting for you to tell us how the bloody hell you came back to life and who that witch was... what are you, Prudence?" he questions. Although his voice is raised at her, his eyes fills with relief. Relief at the fact that she isn't dead after all, relief at the fact that she is sat in-front of him, looking back into his eyes after the scene that just unfolded. She isn't sure if its another one of her many imaginations or her mind playing tricks on her, but at that moment, she felt the sudden and unexpected care he has for her.

"Prudence..." Rebekah spoke up, drawing her attention. "Don't be afraid, you can tell us, we promise we're not going to hurt you, we never will" she states as Kol nods in agreement behind her.

Prudence looks back at the three of them anxiously, before trailing her eyes back to an impatient Klaus.

"That woman who snapped my neck was my aunt" she states as they all turn to look each other a little confused. "Its... its a long story" she mutters as she slowly lowers her head, trying to stop her hand from shaking as everything from the past two years came flooding through her mind like a raging waterfall, leaving her overwhelmingly consumed and dejected at the memory. She lifts her head back up to look at Klaus who's eyes seems to be softening by the second, before she works up the courage to speak up again.

"Two years ago our coven and our small village were under attack by these group of deadly and dangerous vampires that had gone around killing innocent people from town to town" she starts off, then going to take a deep breath. "They killed some people in our village including a member of our coven, so to stop them, my aunt, my mother and the rest of our coven created this crystal ball with their magic to trap them in there, but"

"But what?" Kol questions, taking a step forward as everyone listens on.

Prudence glances up at him, before going back to telling her story. "But they found that it was going to be difficult to trap the vampires in all at once. They needed a sacrifice from a strong witch for the spell to really work and... and-"

"Your mother... she was the sacrifice, wasn't she?" Klaus asks in a quiet tone as Prudence nods, while desperately trying to hold in her tears from instantly pouring out.

"She didn't tell me that she was going to be the sacrifice, I think its because she didn't want me to worry, but the spell took place at night and after the coven had trapped in the vampires in the crystal ball, my mother died right after and... and I never got to say goodbye to her" Prudence explains lowering her head.

Heavy silence lingers around the room as she avoids each of their gazes for a short while, before finding the strength inside to carry on.

"I've always been an outcast in my family and coven. I'm an only child and I never felt like I belonged. My mother was my rock and my strength and after she died I felt so alone, I've never felt so alone. I didn't wanna accept her death and the fact that she sacrificed herself so I spent the next year missing her and wanting her back, but I should've known that I wasn't going to be able to bring her back" she explains.

"What happened?" Elijah asks eagerly.

Prudence flickers her eyes over to him. She then takes a deep breath as her mind trails back to that day. "I attempted to perform a spell filled with the darkest magic to bring her back. I didn't know whether I could really do it or not but I still wanted to try, I just wanted my mother back. While I was attempting to do the spell I was stopped my aunt and the rest of my coven. They said that I had put the coven in danger, that if somehow I was able to bring my mother back to to life it would mean the vampires would be let out of the crystal ball as her sacrifice was why they're still in there. They wanted to punish me and they did so they banished me out of the village... and then they cursed me".

Not being able to hold it in any longer, a single tear slowly rolled down her eyes as her hands clasped together, trying to stop herself from bawling.

Klaus slowly crouches down in-front of her. The others watches as he lifts his hand to wipe her tears away, as the realization quickly dawned upon him. Feeling Klaus' thumb gliding across her right cheek to wipe her tears away, Prudence slowly lifts her head up to look back into his eyes, feeling a comfort and safety she hadn't felt for a long time.

"After they banished you, they cursed you with immortality, didn't they?" he questions as Prudence slowly nods her head.

"An immortal witch... how is that possible?" Rebekah questions in bewilderment, with her eyes not leaving Prudence.

"I've seen this somewhere before, but I never thought it'd be used" Kol spoke up. "Its an ancient spell, dated back to a thousand years. Its one of the original forms of dark magic immortality spells but it only works on witches" he explains briefly.

"And I'm guessing there isn't a cure?" Elijah asks, pushing his back off the wall to properly glance over at Prudence.

"Unfortunately there isn't, well not that I know of" says Kol.

A deadly silence looms in the air once again as it slowly dawns on each of them that the young witch who had been staying with them for the past month is now indeed immortal. But none of them felt more about it than Klaus. Before he knew of her fatal curse he tried desperately hard to resist forming an attachment to her as he knew she is indeed going to die one day and he didn't like getting close to people who could die, but now that he knew the inevitable, he isn't going to let her go so easily.

As Kol, Elijah and Rebekah discuss about the ancient witch immortality spell, Prudence's mind trails back to what her aunt had told her earlier about there being an immortal witch who was cursed with the same fate as her three century ago. Before she could dive and think more about it, she also remembers what she said about Mikael being on his way here, which causes a loud gasp to quickly escape her lips.

"What is it?" Klaus questions with concern as everyone turns to look in their direction.

"Mikael! my aunt mentioned that he is on his way here" she explains as they all turn to look at each other with slight panic and it almost baffles her at how the most powerful creatures in the world could instantly be frightened at the mention of a name, but it isn't just any name, it is their father's.

"We have to run, before he gets here" Klaus speaks up, before turning back around to Prudence. "You are coming with us" he says to her.

"Wait" she utters, stopping him before he could do anything else. "I... I think I can help again" she says, almost as if she isn't sure as herself as Klaus glances down at her puzzlingly. "I saw my mother do this once before she was alive... its a cloaking spell. I can't be able to cloak the whole of New Orleans, but I can be able to cloak this house and everything around it making it invisible, including all of us, so when Mikael gets here he wouldn't be able to get to you or have any knowledge you were even here".

It fell silent for a brief moment as Klaus took a step closer to her. "How long can you be able to do the spell?" he asks.

"I can try and hold it for about 5-10 minutes, its a pretty heavy spell and even my mother wasn't able to do the spell for longer than that. I... I think that I can be able to do it, I can try" she explains, suddenly finding this new found courage in herself.

"Niklaus, if Prudence is going to help us once again, we need to let her know who Mikael is" Elijah speaks up.

"I know who that he's your father" Prudence says, drawing Elijah's gaze back to her. "My aunt was the witch that Mikael went to to track you all. When I did the spell to block her spells, I saw and heard them together, I'm sorry I should've said something" she mutters quietly, before hanging her head low.

Elijah turns to glance over at Klaus who looks elsewhere, knowing how tense he gets whenever the subject of Mikael is brought up.

"You don't need to apologize, Prudence" says Elijah going to slowly make his way over to her. "Its true that Mikael is or father, and we have been running from him for the past 800 years. It is indeed a long story and-"

"Now's not the time for a history lesson, Elijah" says Klaus placing his hand on his shoulder, before turning back around to face Prudence. "Lets see just how much power you really have, sweetheart" he smirks slightly, giving her a look of reassurance and encouragement, and for some strange reason she starts to believe that she could actually do the spell, which is something she's never fully believed once with herself before.

~A short while later~

Haven tracked Mikael and realizing that he is in New Orleans and on his way here, Prudence feels a panic like no other as she stands outside with the Mikaelsons. Her heart beating faster than ever as she desperately tries to divert her mind away from messing up in any way.

"You don't have to be nervous" Klaus whispers in her ear. A shiver runs down her spine as he places his hand on her back and leans closer to reassure her once again. "You have no idea how strong you are, Prudence... someday you're going to find out".

As Klaus whispers the last sentence, Prudence quickly shot her head up to look at him, with her eyes slowly widening. It was the same thing that her mother had said to her on that very day, and she never thought she would hear those words of encouragement from someone like Klaus Mikaelson. But at the same time she is also left with an un easy feeling knowing how much her mother hated vampires when she was alive and would lose her mind if she ever saw her standing with the original vampires, willing to perform a spell for them. Knowing that she could never be reunited with her again as she could never die, and as much as that thought kills her, Prudence hopes that in some way that wherever she is, she doesn't feel disappointed with her and she comes to understand her predicament. She hopes that wearing her necklace can still continue to connect the two together even through death.

Before she takes a deep breath, Prudence turns to look back at Rebekah who places her hand on her shoulder and shoots her a warm smile for support. She shifts her eyes over at Kol, Elijah, then back to Klaus, before facing forward.

As Prudence begins to chant the spell while holding her hands up at the big house, the silence that floated in the air right then and drowned out the outside noise chilled their minds as the cold gust of air etched against their faces. The silence felt like a restorative drought after the frenetic rush of the day. It surrounds them like a fresh, pristine, white blanket of snow on a winter's day. It enters their souls like an angels lullaby, smoothing out the roughness of the day. It clouds them like stars in a freckled night sky. The dim light that now shrouded their faces of the frozen deep was far more than just the absence of light. It felt thick and heavy, interlaced with the stench of darkness, but also a peaceful, calm aroma.

A premonitory chill traces its way down their minds as the siblings slowly open their eyes back up a short while later and turn around to see Mikael walking stood on top of the small hill while looking around. They quickly glanced down at Prudence to see her with her eyes tightly shut as she continues to mutter the spell under their breath, cloaking the house and making them invisible as well with it.

Klaus clenches his jaw tightly, a heavy scowl brewing on his face as he watches Mikael slowly make his way in their direction without knowing. Right then, he felt a strong urge to march out of the bubble Prudence had placed them in and rip his heart out, but he knew if he did that it would break the spell. Feeling Elijah's hand come into contact with his shoulder moments later, helped him to gather his self control as his eyes remained locked on Mikael.

Ten minutes had passed with Mikael still wandering around the place with no idea they were there, and the siblings, especially Klaus were becoming to become concerned if Prudence could hold the spell long enough till he was gone.

Hearing her squirm under her breath as she continues chanting the spell, Klaus shifts his eyes from Mikael and goes to stand in-front of Prudence. He watches as her body begins to shake. When he first met her she was so terrified and anxious she could barely utter a word and now here she is, desperately fighting to keep the spell going for them. There's no doubt in his mind that she was brought up to hate them and see them as monsters, after all she is a witch most importantly a Bennett witch. Finding out about her immortality had shocked him, but it also made him want to protect her, just like she was protecting them then.

As several more minutes went past, blood starts to slowly drip down Prudence's nose, but she carries on going long enough for Mikael to disappear with his vamp speed, haven witnessed nothingness around him.

Once he was gone, Klaus notices Prudence about to collapse and quickly catches her in her arms, before carrying her up, allowing her to rest on his shoulders with her eyes fluttering open and closed, in disbelief at how she had managed to hold a spell like that for so long.

"Prudence- Prudence are you alright?" Rebekah asks with concern and the young witch slowly and weakly nods, while trying to resist the urge from blacking out and that is mainly due to the fact that she is being held by Klaus so gently and tenderly.

"Thank you, Prudence, from now on you will have our protection, just like you have protected us" Elijah speaks up, before shifting his eyes over to Klaus who gazed down at Prudence all while still carrying her in his arms.

A while later he looks up to meet his siblings gazes before speaking up. "We need to leave New Orleans for a while. Its too risky now that Mikael was here. Perhaps we would return someday, but for now we need to go" he announces, looking at each of them, before going to walk back inside the house to place Prudence up in her room for some rest.

Elijah, Rebekah and Kol turn to look at each other for a few short moments, before going to follow after Klaus from behind. After all, this is something that they were used to as they've been running for eight centuries, but now that they had Prudence with them, they knew they couldn't only afford to look after and protect themselves and each other, but also her too.
