They're Just Crumbs

Summary: Anakin is on break from the war and comes home to be with his wife, who is enjoying a snack in bed.

Anakin walked through the darkened apartment. He was so glad to finally be here. Be home. He had finally managed to get away from the Jedi and the press and the politicians. Now he could just be with Padme. He could enjoy sleeping in a real bed with her next to him. He walked into the bedroom. Padme was sitting in bed. He smiled as he noted her round stomach.

"Padme," Anakin said. "What are you doing?"

She was eating a pastry. She paused and smiled at him. "Welcome home– "

"You're getting crumbs all over my bed!" he said as he walked over.

She looked down, and there were crumbs littering the bedsheets.

"Sorry," she said. "Pregnancy cravings."

"No. No. No. This will not do," he muttered.

"Anakin?" she said.

He walked over to her side of the bed. He threw the covers off of her. Then grabbed her by the hand and gently pulled her out of bed.

"Anakin, what are you doing?" she asked.

"I am changing the sheets."

"They're just crumbs. You wipe them away."

He paused and looked at her. "Crumbs are like sand. No matter how much you wipe, they will always be there. I have gone months without sleeping in a real bed. I shall not have this ruined by crumbs."

He proceeded to rip off all the bed covers and threw them in a pile on the floor. He disappeared and then reappeared with a pile of neatly folded bed linens.

"There," he said, appraising his work.

He turned back to Padme, took her hand, and led her back to over to the bed.

"Oh no," he muttered.

"What?" she asked.

"I just realized," he said. "Your nightgown is probably covered in crumbs as well."

"Anakin …"

"You're going to have to take that off," he said with a devilish smile as both his hands grabbed fistfuls of the smooth satin fabric. He lightly tugged on the gown.

"What are you going to do when we have a messy baby?" she asked as she leaned in and kissed his cheek.

"Simple. No babies in the bed."

"Or how about the daddy can go sleep on the couch or in the guest room. Because as I recall this is my bed."

He wrapped his arms around her. Their bodies were flushed against each other. It was the first time he had held like this since he came back. He was so aware of her stomach pressing against him.

"Your bed, huh?" he asked. His voice low. "Well let's get mommy to bed, shall we?"

He tightened his hold on her and picked her off her feet. She let out a small shriek and smacked him on the shoulder. He took a few steps and fell over, bringing them both crashing onto the bed. They both laughed.

"You know," she said once they had calmed down. "All those crumbs on my nightgown are now all over these fresh clean sheets."

Anakin threw his head back and groaned.
