Hi! Here is my longest chapter so far! Fitz is in this chapter. I don't own Keeper of the Lost Cities no matter how much I want to. I can't believe I've posted 4 chapters. (insert fangirl screaming). Also to people who like Harry Potter guess what I am finally watching and reading them! YAY! I'm on the 6th movie and 1st book (sorry for those that think you should read before you watch). It is super cool much better than when I tried when I was 8. My friend is super excited(she likes HP so much).
Chapter 4
Fitz POV
"FINALLY! I've been trying to reach you for hours!" I transmitted when Sophie finally reached out.
"Sorry Fitz, I was having dinner with Keefe," transmitted Sophie.
"It's alright, Dad said that you should transmit to me every night." I said flopping down on my bed.
"Well, here's the daily report. One, Keefe has been going to human school. Two, I am now enrolled into Keefe's school and three, he seems to be happy here."
I was confused "That's it?"
"What do you mean 'that's it?', I did my report, Keefe has been going to school and made new friends and it looks like he'll be staying here for a while until I figure out a way to change his mind." she said.
"Ok then. How are you?" I asked trying to change the subject
"It is much colder here. I feel like I finally need my cape, but nope, no capes allowed. Keefe's friends are all nice, especially Fawn. She spent most of the day showing me around. Everyone thinks I'm cool, which is a first."
"No, it's not and you know it."
"Sure, sure, whatever. It's weird being back. It's kinda nice..." she transmitted trailing off.
"Oh no you don't. You are not going back, you belong in the lost cities. With us."
"Ya I know. It's just sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if you hadn't found me."
"Well I'm glad we don't have to know that."
"Yeah, me too."
"Alright no more running off to the forbidden cities ideas. Ok?"
"Yes Fitz."
"Good night Sophie."
"Good night Fitz"
Sophie POV:
After I talked with Fitz I fell fast asleep. When I woke up the sun was starting to rise. I could hear Amy watching TV in the living room, my dad making bacon, and my mom walking down the creaky stairs. I headed down after a little deliberation on my outfit, I was starting to miss Vertina. Amy saw me and jumped up to hug me, she was the only one who remembered that I was actually an elf and not an adopted daughter that found her real family and moved away. Dad scooped some eggs and bacon on to my plate and kissed my cheek. We all ate breakfast at different times because of my parent's work and Amy and my school schedules. "See you later Soybean." He said as I walked out the door.
I wanted to talk to Keefe before I headed to school. When I made it up the hill I could see Keefe grabbing a quick meal though the kitchen window. I knew that he wouldn't be long so I sat on the cold snow and started making snow angels. I hadn't made one in a while, not since I was last in the forbidden cities. A few minutes and three snow angels later the front door to Kit's house opened. "Sophie!" Keefe said, surprised "What are you doing?"
"One waiting for you, two making snow angels," as I said, ticking off my fingers. I flopped back down on the snow and started snow angel number four. "Okay... Oh stop it with the snow angels, you'll get cold." He said, pulling me up by the arm. " To-too late." I said shivering. "I-I guess I forgot-ot how c-c-cold it gets in winter." I started to brush the snow out of my hair. "Well lo-looks like we should start to ge-get going." Keefe and I started to walk to where his friends met up before school. It took a lot of explaining why I was walking around with snow in my hair and jacket. After a while we were heading to our class, I was worried that I was going to be swarmed by kids and my worry was right, as I entered the room and sat down, kids started surrounding me and asking me to help them with their homework. I started to get overwhelmed. Then a girl's voice said something like "Alright everyone leave her alone." I wasn't fully listening. I thought my mental walls were strong enough but apparently 20 kids bombarding you with questions kind of makes it hard to concentrate on blocking their minds. I'm pretty sure Keefe saw me wince. All the kids started going to their tables and the girl who told them to leave walked forward. I looked up and remembered her from yesterday. "Amaline, thanks for that."
"No problem, after all you're the one who sat with me during science." She smiled at me then went back to her table in the front. Miss Rebecca finally arrived. "Alright class today we are going to start our day with the history of the ancient Greeks." With a groan everyone started to grab their notes and pens as Miss Rebecca started the class.
Keefe POV:
During lunch Sophie sat with us on our table along with Amaline. The only problem was that kids from all her classes and some others would always come over to our table; they would squeeze between us and try to ask Sophie questions about her life. She started to tug on her eyelashes, and I could feel Sophie getting stressed. Even though she looked miserable she wouldn't move. I guess she didn't want to make us move because of her. It was only until Fawn got up that Sophie moved. "Come on Sophie let's get out of here." Then she grabbed Sophie's hand and walked into the library. Alex and I followed them out but Lucas was playing soccer(A/N or football depending on where you are) and heard none of the conversation. By the time we caught up to them they were already in the library grabbing a table. It had been a while since I was in the library, light grey paint peeled off the walls, high brown shelves filled to the brim with books. We came just close enough to hear Fawn say to Sophie "This will be better, people rarely stay in the library. It should be quiet here."
"Thanks Fawn. Alex Keefe, what are you doing here?"
"Did you really think we'd let you go somewhere by yourself?" said Alex
"Okay but don't make too much noise," warned Fawn as she opened her homework. We sat down and started to set out our work. The whole time we were there no one had come to ask Foster questions. It was quiet. We met up with Lucas outside of our math class. "Hey where were you?" he asked.
"We went to the library because it was too loud out in the playground, you could have joined us but you were too busy playing soccer." said Fawn in disgust
"Well anyway we better get into the class." said Sophie
Sophie POV
By the time school ended I felt light headed. It took so much energy blocking people's thoughts. Today was worse than yesterday. Everyone knew about me now in our grade and they all wanted to talk to me. I started to head home but by now even just walking down the street made my head spin. Just then I heard a voice. "Sophie, you okay?"
"I'm fine Keefe." I said trying to put one foot in front of the other.
"You sure? Because I can feel your emotions coming from a mile away."
"Empaths." I grumbled.
"So can I come with you?"
I sighed then nodded. He gave me a smirk and started walking beside me. It took a while for us to get to my house because of all the headaches I kept having. I was beginning to think about teleporting when we reached our gravel driveway. "This is it."I said walking up the stairs. My family's house was a tutor surrounded by evergreens, the lawn had a dusting of snow, since Dad probably shoveled the snow earlier today. It looked like it had popped out from a fairytale from the books I read as a child. I opened the door and turned around to see Keefe stopped in front of the stairs. "You coming?" I asked, confused.
"I better get back, Kit wants me to shovel snow." He turned around and started walking up the street.
"I've got E.L Fudges." I said hoping it had the same reaction as in the lost cities.
He stopped instantly "What did you say?"
"I. Have. E.L. Fudges." I repeated
"Maybe the shoveling can wait." He said as he jogged back. We entered the living room, it had soft grey walls, a sofa and a table. "Mom?"
"She's in the back, how was your da.. KEEFE! What are you doing here!" Amy sat on the couch wide eyed at keefe.
"Amy! What are you doing here?" He said surprised and then looked at me. I shrugged. "When I found out that you were here, Alden also told me that my human parents were here too. So I've been staying with them. Who do you think I was talking about when I said 'I was staying with my adoptive family'?" I asked.
"I thought that was made up..." I heard him mumble as he sat with Amy. I went to the kitchen to grab the cookies. Once I got back he already had made a swan, dog and an elephant out of the napkins that used to sit in the napkin holder beside him. I placed the cookies in front of him and he ripped the box open. We all spent a whole 30 minutes eating two packs of E.L Fudges. Amy and I shared one and Keefe ate the other. After a while Amy and I inspected his napkin animals. "Do you have more?" asked Keefe, gesturing to the cookies. He had crums on his face making him look like a little six year old " Keefe, you ate a whole box. I think you've had enough." I said taking the empty box away.
"Aww" he said, pouting.
"Want to play a game." I said as I got out a chessboard "Sure."
We spent another hour playing and messing around, and I won every time. "Checkmate." I said, knocking his king down.
"Aww man, how do you do it?" he asked, shaking his head as Amy high-fived me.
"A girl never reveals her secrets." I replied laughing when he frowned. After the third game Keefe got up from the table. "I admit defeat, and I better get going." He said looking up at the clock next to the door. We packed up the game. Keefe went to the mud room and grabbed his coat and boots.
"Bye."I said awkwardly.
"Sophie by the way, because tomorrow is a weekend my friends are meeting up and..." he didn't need to finish the sentence, I knew what he was asking."I'll be there Keefe."
"Wait Keefe," I said, he turned around. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a jumbo pack of E.L. Fudges. "Here." I handed him the box.
"Thanks Foster," he said in farewell, putting the box of cookies in his backpack and walked down the drive.
Thanks everyone for reading!
Linhsong22: Thank you for reviewing and reading I will change it right away.
TheGirlofManyFloods: I know right! I'm trying my hardest to make it cute and funny without being a complete romcom(as much as I like them I just can't see KotLC as a romcom). Thanks for reading and reviewing!
