Legend of Linkle: Forthcoming Royalty

Princess of Ikana

Chapter 5: Radio

Link rode through the forest as fast as he could, feeling the urgency of events to come.

Epona's grandson, who was named Silver was his current stead, Epona passed on 15 or so years ago.

The hero's shade had gone peacefully after passing on his techniques and knowing he would become the next hero, the fact he returned to warn him about the princess worried him.

Link liked to stay close to home in more recent years, it wasn't often he would venture out of the forest.

Once he met the road and saw the first hurdle he saw a band of monsters chasing after a wagon in the distance, though it was slightly off course, he wasn't able to ignore those in need and so he steered Silver to the right and gave chase.

The bublins were firing volleys of fire arrows at the transport, setting the roof on fire, Link clenched his teeth before pulling out a bow from his arsonal and took aim, with a few carefully timed hits he made quick work of them. He then rode alongside the wagon and extinguished the flames with his gale boomerang.

The driver pulled them to a slow stop before thanking Link graciously. The cloth door behind him opened and an older lady appeared, she took a careful look before raising her hand to her face in surprise.

"Link? What are you doing here?" she asked.

"Ashei?" he replied equally surprised, for she didn't come off Snowpeak often anymore either.

"I'm heading to the castle to see Zelda, on some urgent business" he told her vaguely.

"Ah, well thank you for coming to our rescue, it's getting more difficult these days fending off rogue monsters" she admitted weakly.

Link knew what she meant, they were getting on in age and were not as battle able as they were in their youth.

A voice croaked from inside the caravan, and Ashei turned her attention to the woman behind her.

A painful groan followed and Link wondered if he was suddenly in for more than he bargained.

Things were tense around the castle, after the Queen's public arrest, that when a messenger from the kingdom of Dusana arrived unannounced, the guards were hesitant in calling for the king… thinking that the message could be received by a noble, but the boy was persistent that this particular message was for the king's audience only.

Sulien was resting his eyes at his desk, in low candlelight when there was a knock on his study door.

"I said that I wasn't to be disturbed!" he roared at the door, hoping his tone would send whoever away quickly.

The door opened, and Zelda strolled inside silently.

Sulien quieted at the sight of his mother's presence.

"Milord, there is urgent business in the throne room, it's a messenger from Dusana" she told him, bowing to her son.

He rose before offering his arm to escort her to court.

Court was called to session, with those who could arrive promptly after hearing that the king was once again holding an emergency session, due to their unexpected visitor.

The messenger from Dusana strolled up to the dais before pulling out a sealed scroll before passing it to a guard who quickly inspected it before handing it to the king.

Sulien unsealed it and unraveled it before reading, he then summarized the contents for the nobles aloud.

Dusana claimed that there was trade fraud between them and wanted to renegotiate immediately or else they would declare war.

"Hmph, this is poorly written, sir… does your king have any proof that there is indeed some trade fraud going on between our two countries?" he demanded scoffing

The messenger, wilted visibly before shaking his head, for he was not sent with such materials.

Sulien glared at the man, before scribbling a quick response and tossing the scroll back to him.

"You tell him that if he is so recklessly threatening war and not putting forth a proper petition and a submission of evidence, then let me be the first to say that perhaps we do need to negotiate some new terms to our perfectly good trades already" Sulien spat angrily waving him away.

The messenger bowed before strolling out of the room quickly.

The Duke of Eldin quickly asked for what Hyrule's official response was, written on that scroll.

And so additional business commenced for the afternoon, with a new problem.

Princess Rosa bid the army of men and the general goodbye as she boarded the caravan with the few Subrosians and they were off to Hyrule.

Several hours later, she awoke from a light nap and asked where they were currently.

"We are passing through the Woods of Winter Princess" replied Quartz.

They were still in Holodrum territory.

Rosa stared out into the wilderness, normally the region would follow a regular seasonal pattern, but since Lady Din was murdered, this part of the world stayed in eternal winter, the leaves on the trees disappeared and snow came and went, snow banks slowly piling up. It was sad to see the land reflect its grief over the loss of their friend.

She felt some heavy feelings wash over her when she thought of the oracle of seasons.

When she was a young child, Din would visit the castle and dance with her in the gardens. As a bit of a cover, Din was a travelling dancer in a small troupe of musicians. Her mother, Queen Karalia grew up with her when she was young, and so Din had many funny tales to tell Rosa about her mother, and an aunt she never met. Seralia left for Hyrule before she was born and when she was asked for her assistance, she abandoned them for her new country.

Rosa didn't blame her though, in the end her father was the truly foolish one. She spurred herself out of her memories and turned to Citrine to ask.

"Hyrule's border lies on the other end of Samasa Desert?" she asked for clarification.

Citrine nodded.

Breakfast was passed around, for they only packed items that didn't need much preparation and the castle cooks knew she just loved sweet curry wraps, with some light dip.

She decided to be nice and offered some to her companions but they declined, citing they only eat non-human food.

Rosa decided to read, for she had hopes of manipulating her fiancée but she would need to know more about the Hylian royal family.

Her father, long ago had visited the kingdom for final arrangements with her aunt's marriage and as a gift of becoming a new family, the old King of Hyrule, Queen Zelda's husband gave them an old tome of lore and legends. These were written by past monarchs, and left a bit of a family history.

The ride to Kakariko Village was uneventful, besides one horde of moblin but Linkle took care of them and was relieved, for she would have been in a bind if more had shown up, she didn't have as much strength as her father, or grandfather. She was skilled with a bow, and not so skilled with a sword like her cousins.

Her companions, the Rieka clan merchants were siblings and they were identical, both had vibrant jade eyes and pumpkin shaded hair, the rest of them looked Hylian, but it reminded her of what her grandmother had told her about the Twili people from the twilight realm. Course no Twili would step forth back into Hyrule after their Princess, Midna broke the mirror that connected their worlds, when she said her goodbyes to Link and Zelda, after the fall of Ganondorf.

They spent the previous night on the plain of the Kakariko Gorge and Umbria explained a story their relatives spoke of the goddesses and the heavens.

"They say that if you are lost, just look to the sky and find the triforce and you have found North" Umbria told them gleefully.

Linkle was skeptical, but looked upward and looked for patterns of triangles in the stars.

She didn't see anything specific and before she could protest a whiz of magic streaked through the sky.

She glanced at the duo but they looked mystified as well. Looking back to the sky, more streaks fell, it was a meteor shower.

Queen Midna, walked back to her place and found her guest awaiting the evening meal.

"Your majesty" the female greeted while bowing

"Please… you're a Queen too, don't bow" Midna replied coldly.

"I am a Queen of nothing since being sold." the lady replied just frostily.

"Your kingdom isn't lost yet, you could be reinstated." Midna continued before waving at her to follow.

The two of them strolled through the empty halls to the kitchen where Midna would prepare something for her.

Ever since she returned from the world of light, something was off. At first she brushed it off as paranoia that Zant had something else up his sleeve if he were to lose but nothing unusual happened. Life resumed as it was and she began to prepare her ascension to Queen of the Twilight Realm.

She married a lower noble who seemed smart and would aid her reign, he was a mousey kind of man and followed her every command. They went on to have a son who was named the new Prince of Twilight.

Time continued on, people forgot and people passed on to the other world. Before long her son, Raziel became king, got married to a charming woman and they had twins, a boy and a girl.

Midna had noticed after becoming a mother, a change in the realm, random flares of distortion would flare up and suddenly people were disappearing.

They're world was rejecting them and anyone who was caught in a "flare" ceased to exist on impact.

A state of emergency was called and everyone cautious went about their lives and fled if they came across a flare they could escape from.

High court mages tested for abnormalities that would explain what was causing the world to change. She didn't think of it at first but over time, Midna began to suspect that the problem was her… her adventures in the world of light, being almost killed by being exposed to a light spirit and given her life back by being forced to accept Princess Zelda's life force. When she explained her theory to her son, he demanded she leave them, for things would be righted if her hybrid body of darkness and light was causing the disturbances and killing their people.

As prideful as she was, and the ways of the tribe, she couldn't be ousted unless defeated in a magical battle, she may have passed on the ruler title but she was still the more powerful of them all.

Raziel tricked her and she was caught off guard and crumbled to the ground in near defeat, throwing one last ball of magic at him, which didn't even faze him.

Kneeling, ready to submit defeat, a light appeared and all those near her shuffled away, groans of pain following.

Midna, surprised, looked at her left hand and saw the one thing she despised, being a shadow dweller. The Triforce of Power had claimed her as it's new owner.

For a decade she decided to leave her people and go into exile. She had destroyed the mirror of twilight, the only doorway to their world and could not go back to Hyrule.

Even distancing herself, the problems continued, and she knew that she would have to return to Hyrule to save her people. Creating a new mirror was now beyond her though, not being 100% shadow, her son would have to do it, it took some time but he created a new doorway and she returned to the capitol to say goodbye to everyone.

There were only a handful of survivors and Midna was devastated.

Raziel forgave her, for unfortunately they had discovered that it wasn't just her, all the people were contaminated with light force after Zant's reign. They would have to convert themselves to become light dwellers once again, the goddesses had given them a second chance.

Midna knew the perfect place to start over.

Entering the world of light, they went through a bit of transformation, the shadow parts faded away and they were now Hylian, with distinct jade eyes still, and pumpkin fiery hair, and a bit of a tan complexion, but that was all that was left of their Twili distinction.

They started over, creating a new life for them all, becoming rare exotic wares travelling merchants in an effort to conceal their homebase, which was once the Hidden village but now was called Sol Village.

A warning came one night through a dream, the light spirit of Eldin visited her and told her that someone would need to return to the dying twilight realm, someone who could sustain it, while the transference of magic happened. Midna knew he was talking about her, with the triforce she was the only one who could carry the transfer of power long enough to finish.

"Will I die? Why did the triforce choose me?" she asked fearful

"No, once the transfer and cycle ends, you will disappear but be reborn in this world. A turbulent time is coming in the near future, and by being away you are saving your people and the people of Hyrule, for another is seeking the power of the whole triforce."

"Has he returned?" Midna asked, referring to Ganon.

"No, he will not be returning for a time, until the three of them reincarnate again into another lifetime" the spirit answered wistfully.

"I will take on this honor, '' she replied, bowing to the spirit.

The next day she said goodbye to her family, for they may not be around when she eventually returned and went back to the dying twilight realm by herself.
