My name is Alistair Erskine. I was born in Scotland but raised in England. My mother was Scottish women while my father was an Englishmen. I took her last name. I have no idea how the child came into my care. She just showed up...literally. I found her in the place I was staying, curled up in a corner. I didn't know what to think of her but I was going to kill her. It wasn't until I caught her scent that realize she wasn't normal. Even then I was still considering killing her. It wasn't until she begged me to help her that I lost all sense of what I should do. I was gentlemen in my human life. I would have never hurt a child especially a little girl, so why was I doing it now. My sisters and mother would have been ashamed of me."

There was an awkward pause before Julia reached over and held his cold hand in hers.

"oh Alistair, im sure they would have been proud of you. You went against your instincts and saved this young child. If it hadn't been for you, she would have died from the sickness. Now do you have any idea what you want to do next?" Julia asked.

"I...I don't know...I thought about leaving her with you or maybe an orphanage but…they would bring too many questions. And well, your in your last days. She would just be alone. I don't want her alone."

"I see. Do you care for this child Alistair?" Julia questioned.

"I do…but I don't know how…I couldn't possibly…I can barely take care of myself. I follow my instincts. I hunt, and I run. That's it. How I could I possibly help a human child not to mention, I have identity, no money, no home, I don't exist."

"but you said so yourself Alistair, that child is not just human. There's something about her. And if you give me enough time, I can make you exist. I am dying but we have more than enough time. I can show you what you need to know. How would you feel about that?"

"I dont know..." Alistair replied, truthfully.

"well, how about you go upstirs and shower. You can get some clothing, from the closet in my bedroom. I am going to go out for a minute."

"out? But its in the dead of night." He asked concerned.

Julia let out a laugh.

"see, you are a good person. Don't worry about little old me. I can handle myself. You just go ahead and get yourself cleaned up."

With that said, Julia put on her coat and shoes and left out the door.

…..

Alistair stared at the black water as it went down the drain.

Had he really been that dirty? He knew vampires didn't have to shower often but then again; nomads tend to get dirtier then vampires who had settled for somewhere for a while. He couldn't remember the last time he took a shower and had clean clothes. Running a hand through his hair and his beard, he realized just how clean it was.

He needed to comb it. As soon as he was done with that, he found some comfortable clothes and headed to the little girls room. In the corner was a rocking chair which he dragged to her bedside.

"Sut ydych chi'n gwneud merch?" how are you doing girl?

"you scared me too death little girl. Im going to need you to be strong. I don't know why but I need you. I cant live without you. Before you I didn't have a reason to live. I wasn't living. I was more like existing. Just going through the motions and then you showed up. Im gonna need you to start feeling better sunflower. We got some things to figure out."

With that said Alistair leaned over the sleeping girl, feeling her temperature with his hand. A sigh of relief escaped his lips as he saw her temperature had gone down drastically.

"your fever must be broken ferch. Im glad. Now we just need you to wake up…"

….

Julia smiled as she stepped into the house. The sun was at its brightest and she realized she had been out for more then two hours. It was necessary though. Everything they needed to keep Alistair and the child safe.

"Alistair, could you come down for a moment." She said quietly as she sat down at the kitchen table.

Immediately, the black-haired man was sitting across from her.

It took Julia a minute to gather her wits before she spoke.

"you clean up good." She complimented. His face no longer looked haggard. And his hair didn't look like a birds nest. His skin also seemed just bit shinier.

"your back. It's been a few hours? Are you alright you look exhausted."

"I am but it was worth it for the two of you. Now here's what I was up too. You and the child need an identity, especially if you are going to be raising her. So, I went out and got some identification for the two for the you. You name is Alistair Erskine Abreo. Abreo is my last name. I have put you and the child as my sole inheritors. Once I die, everything I have will belong to both of you. I am very wealthy, so you two shall be set for life and I have homes all over the globe, so you won't ever have to hide in a cave again. Our only issue is the child's name. I believe it would be best of we changed it or at least changer her middle name. when she wakes up. We don't know what kind of danger is after her, or where she came from. For a last name, I believe Erskine Abreo would be appropriate. Do you have any suggestions for a middle name?"

"Eleanor..." he said quietly.

Julia smiled softly as she wrote it down on one of the birth certificates.

"I like it. So, here's the back story. You are my long-lost son, and we are just now getting into touch, after years apart. The child is your daughter, my granddaughter. Your wife recently died, and you have come to live with me because of your grief. How does that sound?"

"its believable…but are you sure. You don't know me. And … -"

"stop it Alistair. I want to do this. You and that child are family now. No matter what happens. I-"

Julia was cut off when an ear-piercing scream sounded through the morning air.

"NO! NO! NO! HELP ME! MOMMY! DADDY! NO!"
