SUNSET

As the Professor built a fire Mary Ann stood looking out over the ocean. He came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"As many beautiful places in the world, I think this island has to be the most beautiful place there is."

"Yes, I have to agree. This is also where you made me the happiest man on earth by saying yes."

Mary Ann smiled as she laid her head on the his shoulder, "You've made me happier than I ever thought possible."

Professor sighed, "I just wish that we would get rescued soon. You shouldn't have to live in a hut. You deserve a real house. One with a kitchen inside, a bathroom with running hot water and shops close by so you can buy whatever you want. More than anything I want to give you a real home."

With tears in her eyes Mary Ann gently placed her hand on the Professor's cheek, "Oh Roy, I don't need all that. As long as I'm with you, no matter where that is, I have a real home. You are my home."

"What did I ever do to deserve you?" the Professor kissed Mary Ann till they had to break apart for air. After catching his breath he told Mary Ann, "Wait here, I have a surprise for you."

The Professor hurried over to their basket, rummaged through it until he triumphantly pulled something out. He handed Mary Ann a small present wrapped in a leaf and tied with a vine.

"Happy anniversary. Thank you for making this year greater than I could have ever imagined. Thank you for helping me realize there is more to life than science. But most important thank you for just being you."

Smiling Mary Ann unwrapped the gift to find a crudely made ring with a green colored stone with two pearls, one on each side of the stone. Mary Ann gasped, "Oh Roy. How did you..."

"Well I always felt bad that all I could give you was my college ring and not a real engagement ring. I hope it will be alright until we are rescued and I can buy you a proper one."

"It's beautiful. However did you find a stone here?"

"Pure luck and a lot of hunting. Gilligan has been helping me search for over a year and last month he found this stone."

"Oh Roy, thank you so much. It's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen." Mary Ann held her hand out for the Professor to place the ring next to her wedding band. "Oh Roy, I love you."

"I love you so much Mary Ann."

"Wait I have another small surprise." The Professor moved over to their basket once more, took out the radio and turned it on. Soft music filled the air.

He walked over to Mary Ann and held out his hand. "Shall we dance?"

Mary Ann gently placed her hand into his and stepped into his arms "I thought you'd never ask."

"We haven't danced in a while. I've miss it."

Mary Ann giggled slightly.

Professor looked down at her. "What's so funny? I didn't think I was that out of practice."

"Ginger."

"Ginger?"

"Yes, she told me that she always knew we would end up together, long before we even admitted it to ourselves."

Professor raised an eyebrow. "Really, and how did Ginger know when we didn't know ourselves?"

"Well she said it was because of our dancing. She said that we never danced with anyone else at our parties and spent almost the whole night just dancing with each other. Did you know that as long as we've been on this island, you have never danced with Ginger?"

"Oh my dear I must have at least once. We've been on the island for five years...Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember dancing with her." smiling into Mary Ann's brown eyes "But why dance with someone else when you've found the perfect dance partner?" Mary Ann laughed as the Professor dipped her low.

With arms wrapped still wrapped around each other they stopped dancing long enough to watch the last light of the day to disappear. At the exact moment the sun disappeared they witnessed a great flash of green.

Mary Ann's breath caught, "As many times that I've seen the green flash, it still surprises me."

"It is a wonder." The Professor looked into Mary Ann's tear filled eyes, "My Dear is anything the matter?"

Mary Ann shook her head, "No, nothing. It's perfect. You're perfect. The whole day was perfect. I just wish this day could last forever."

The Professor held her tight, "So do I."
