AN: Friday sucked. Saturday sucked even more as I hugged a trash can for a good hour that night. Sunday didn't suck as much.
Today is okay but so much wording to do.
"I swear to whatever deity is watching," Naruto snarled, slamming several papers of neatly printed information down in front of Ibiki, "that whoever does your yearly budget needs to be strung up and whipped bloodless." He had started to go over the yearly budget two weeks before and he had barely gotten through the first two years of the fifteen that he had to get through. "This is the first year. From when the budget re-started fifteen years ago." He shifted. "Which is when I had to go back to since I could fix all of the bullshit that has led to where we are at now: Knowing where money has disappeared."
Ibiki stared at him, eyes flicking down to the pile of paper before setting his pen aside. "How far many years have you gotten through?" he asked.
Naruto picked up the thinnest packet of stapled papers. "From the point that I had to start at, which was fifteen years ago, I've gotten through three years in the last two weeks. This includes me getting everything and making copies. Even with the help that I got from Crow and Sparrow, rare as it can be, and my Kage Bushin, I had some issues getting it all," he admitted. "We had to drag ourselves through the Archives since some of it was misfiled. And for good reason apparently."
Ibiki groaned as he rubbed at his forehead, shaking his head. "Okay, and we need to do what now?" he asked.
Naruto sighed as he took a seat. "I've found out where the money was being sent. It's been sitting in an unused account that was opened about a year before the money started to be shifted into it. It's been collecting money ever since the guy who was running this joint was killed in the first major war before he could tell anyone but the guy who took over for him. He had started to tuck some of the money away, a few ryo each week, and then he apparently forgot to tell your predecessor when he retired," he told him.
He looked at the summary in his hands and ruffled through the papers, finding the ones he wanted.
"It's been going on for fifteen years, a light skim of ryo every week as money is paid out. It's made for a few issues. The bank that holds it thought that you guys knew it and didn't bother telling you about it since he thought you knew about the emergency fund. The taxes are paid out of the account and filed as normal."
"To summarize,it's a self-running account that no one knew about for emergency reasons," Ibiki summarized, Naruto nodding. "How much is in the account currently?" he asked. He took the pages that were handed to him and whistled at the rather large number on it. "That is a lot of zeros. I can use this to update everything in the base and still have money left over for future updates."
"You can. I'm also thinking of putting down the ryo moving over into the account monthly as emergency and update funds if you want. I'm also double-checking the accounts that we hold with contractors, payroll, etc." Naruto shifted. "I had to kill like three different payrolls already because that particular mask or person was long retired. It was just the base pay that all ANBU get outside of missions. The money for them was also placed into the account when their main accounts were shut down or they died during a mission. I do not doubt that I'll probably find out that when they died, whoever did changed their base pay, they didn't put the masks down onto the official 'retired' list."
Ibiki grunted as he rubbed at his face. "It's probably a good thing that Crow and Sparrow are both good at numbers. How long are you thinking that it'll take to get all of this straightened out?" he asked.
Naruto tapped his fingers on the pages in his hands as he looked at the calculations. "I'm currently using a clone to shift through the papers we have, two to comb through your Archives a bit closer, and I'm personally doing the desk up until about five. That's when one of the retired ANBU's come in to take their shift up until about two am. Anko or someone else covers from two to nine, when I come back with you. Right now, weekends are on a rotating schedule for whoever wants to make some extra cash, get in some hours that aren't mission hours, or who are stuck on desk duty," he mused. "I've started to take home a box or two each night to shift through. That way I have an idea of what I'm looking at for the next morning. I'm thinking minimum a month, three or four at most."
Ibiki sighed. "And that's without help outside of Crow and Sparrow?" he asked, Naruto nodding. "I'll make sure that I check in on you every couple of hours. I'm, for once, caught up on my paperwork here and I'm implementing that sorting system that you set up today. My secretary loves the system by the way. It's going to make her job easier and will make getting the important shit done faster."
"Yeah, my clone is with a Crow clone and Sparrow right now, working their way through more of the boxes. We just got the rest of the bank statements from the bank itself so we can compare our books to theirs for all of our accounts," Naruto said. He shrugged and patted the pile of paper that he had brought in with him. "This is just what we've learned so far. Yes, we are indeed using the computers to keep track of things and to figure out what needs to be done where. Instead of using triple the amount of money for paper and pens, we've only used about two hundred, forty-six thousand, five hundred and thirty for the ink and paper for the printer. We also had some of the cards reissued with a strict number of names who can use them and in what amounts without your signature."
Ibiki waved it off. "I did give the report that you were reissuing cards," he said. "Just make sure that I get the receipts so that I can make the proper notes on the books when we have new books for the accounts."
"Of course, sir," Naruto drawled. He stood up, ready to leave before he jerked his head to look at the wall with a frown. "Someone just popped my clone in the Archives," he said, running for the door. Ibiki jumped his desk, following with thudding steps as he stormed through the back offices, heading for the Archives. Sliding into the small office where his clone had been typing at the computer, the file with the information on where scrolls were, and which ones had been updated on the screen.
Looking around, the two narrowed their eyes at the sight of a hidden door swinging shut.
"Fuck," Ibiki snarled as he ran for the hidden door.
Naruto caught his arm before he got very far, shaking his head. "Remember, that is a short corridor, and it lets out into the woods as an escape hatch. By the time that we get out there, he'll be long gone," he said, thinking about what his clone had seen. "My clone didn't get a very good look at him, but he was putting something onto the shelves, not taking it," he continued. He walked over to the shelf that his clone had seen him messing around on. Looking over it, he found the scroll and pulled it out. "I have no idea what this is," he said as he looked to Ibiki, waving the scroll. "This isn't one of ours."
The man grunted as he walked over, took the scroll, opening it with a bit of chakra to release the seal holding it close and read over it with a frown,. The scroll held a list of places that they should look for items that had been hidden amongst the main Archives, making Ibiki smirk.
"It seems as if whoever left this here is looking to help us with the main Archives." Naruto made a curious sound, looking at the list before snatching it out of Ibiki's hands, reading over it slowly with wide eyes. He could connect several things on the list with issues that they had had in the last six months in the main Archives alone, let alone the ANBU Archives.
"I have to take this over to Iruka-san. If this list is real, we can finally pin that old bastard warbird to the wall once and for all," he hissed, eyes alight in pleasure at the thought. He grabbed Ibiki's arm and called up a new clone. He put a sealing tag onto his side pouch while he told the clone what he wanted Sparrow and the Crow clone to know. He shoved the mission scroll into his pouch, his clone going to get Crow's clone to work the desk while he and Sparrow continued working the boxes.
Leaving the main building, Naruto went down the hallways that lead towards the Hokage's tower. They used a secondary hidden and locked Archival door to get into the Archives and to the office.
Naruto kept dragging Ibiki along behind him, muttering softly about how he was going to turn Danzo's guts into garters.
Ibiki just looked rather amused by the muttering, double-checking on what kind of seal Naruto had used on the pouch holding the scroll by tilting his head and staring at it. He was amused that it was one of the Uzumaki basic seals, which was a lot stronger more than most of the seals that were used.
Once they arrived in the hidden hallways that the chunins used, they twisted around sharp corners and hallways that double-backed. Naruto walked through it with ease born of practice. Ibiki noted that it seemed as if the hallways were more of a maze than anything and it seemed as if the desk jockeys knew exactly where to go and how to get to where they needed to go.
He shook his head as they walked out of the desk chunin's personal Hokage Tower door, the door sliding shut behind them quietly as they headed for Tsunade's office.
