A/N: A bit of a shorter one compared to the others I've done, but it's another Emily x Jack chapter and so I hope that it's all right!
Smoothing a hand up and down Jack's back through his pajama shirt as he laid in the space between her and the back of the couch, Emily smiled against his hairline as she kissed him there before looking down at her bump when she felt Adeline move in response to his touch. She had let him stay up a little later than usual since Aaron was working late again and it was the weekend and he had asked if they could watch Toy Story 2, but she knew that he had stopped paying attention to the movie long ago. Every time she had looked at him over the past half-an-hour he had been staring at her belly and running his hand across it through her tank top, a delighted smile lighting up his face whenever Adeline had moved or kicked against his palm.
He was already smitten with her and that made her happier than she could put into words.
When she and Aaron had been preparing to sit him down and tell him that they were having a baby she had been so nervous. Ever since they had started dating he had been the center of their attention, even more so when she had started living with them, and there had been a small part of her that had been convinced that he would get upset at the thought of having the attention taking away from him. Nevertheless, they had sat on the couch with him when he had come home from school one afternoon and told him the news. He had appeared to be unsure about what to think in the beginning, but he hadn't stopped kissing her stomach once they had pulled out the scan picture and explained to him that the baby was growing inside of her.
Even now, almost eight months on, he still made sure that he gave her bump a kiss before he went to school on the days they were still wheels down. He had started stroking her belly without even realizing it too which was something that she loved. Whenever they cuddled while she read him a bedtime story or watched something on the television his little hand would rest instinctively on her stomach, his attention never wavering. There was no doubt in her mind that he was going to be the best big brother to Adeline and to say that she was excited to watch him hold her close for the first time was an understatement. He was going to be so protective of her when she grew up and she already felt slightly sorry for any boy that broke her heart.
'Emmy?'
The sound of his voice pulled her from her thoughts and she turned her attention to him once again, stroking his cheek with the back of his hand as she could tell that he was struggling to keep his eyes open now. 'Yes, my darling?' She replied quietly.
'When is Adeline going to come out?' He asked, his hand never leaving her stomach.
'She won't be here for another couple of weeks because she has a bit more growing to do, but it won't be long now.' She said.
He nodded in response before falling quiet as he thought for a second. 'What's she going to look like?'
'We don't know yet, we have to wait until she's born to find that out,' She explained. 'What do you think she'll look like?'
'Me and daddy think she's going to be pretty just like you.' He admitted.
She was unable to keep the tears from brimming in her eyes as she tightened her hold of him and pulled him close, her heart swelling with the love she had for him as she nuzzled her hair into his fringe and breathed in his scent for a moment before kissing him on the temple. There weren't words to describe just how much she adored him. He had always been such a sweet, affectionate little boy and she honestly felt so honored to be able to spend so much time with him and watch him grow up. 'You know that I love you just as much as I love Adeline, Jack, don't you?' She asked when she pulled back a little to look at him again. 'She might be my baby, but you were here before her and I promise that I don't love her any more than I love you.'
'Don't worry, I know,' He reassured her while draping an arm over her middle and cuddling closer to her. 'I love you too.'
She sighed with relief, running a hand over his hair when he yawned. 'Why don't you try to get some sleep now, sweetheart?'
'Okay. You won't leave, Emmy, will you?' He asked as he laid his head on her chest and nuzzled underneath her chin.
'No, I won't leave.' She soothed.
'Promise?'
'I promiseā¦'
