Ch 3

A little boy in blue bunny pajamas ran into the bedroom. Yelling as he jumped into his bed as if to test the springs. His grandfather followed him into his room and smiled at his grandson's antics. "Jaune you're going to have to go to bed, you are going to get up early in the morning."

"Gramps tell me a bedtime story" Jaune pleaded "Can you please"

The older man laughed, he moved closer and sat in front of Jaune helping him into his bed.

The young Jaune listened intently as he got tucked into bed. His grandfather began the story "Once upon a time, there was a world called Remnant. It was a beautiful world full of treasures that could grant wishes and many other amazing things. Ancient Beasts such as dragons and fairies. The people were special too, they had their own superpower. This world was incredibly vast, but there was a danger that threatened it."

"The monsters were attacking so everyone banded together to fend off the monsters. I was there as well. I fought as the monsters swarmed, those monsters were tough but they were no match for me."

The older man stood up in front of the bed and motioned with his hand as if vanquishing a foe as he explained the story "I held my sword high and boom a bright light vanquished the monsters." The older man's voice was rough but loving. Jaune was amazed you could see the gleam in his eyes as he listened. He wasn't going to bed anytime soon, because the story was too interesting.

"Gramps," Jaune said, looking up with a childish smile.

The older man stopped and looked at the boy. "yes, Jaune"

"I want to be a hero wielding a cool sword and shield. Then I could save everyone just like you gramps." "Jaunes eyes beamed at his grandfather in admiration.

He played with Jaunes hair and gave him a big hug "You will have to wait until you are older"

"Can I be strong like you" Jaune asked

The older man looked pained as if remembering something "No, you are going to be much stronger. However, a knight needs to get there sleep" Jaune as he heard this pulled his blanket over himself and closed his eyes tightly as if closing them with all his might would make him sleep faster.

"Haha, good night Jaune." The older man set his arm on the boy. The older man walked out of the door and said something to the boy as he closed the door.

"Jaune," Ruby said, trying to get his attention. Jaune brought out from his train of thought turned to Ruby "sorry I was lost in my thoughts"

She waved her hand "that's ok" "We have to get back to the initiation my sister is calling me and she is worried." The two of them walked back after figuring out where they needed to go back.

Yang called to her sister. She saw that Ruby was talking to someone, she congratulated herself believing that her plan to help Ruby talk had worked. She waved to her sister "I saved you a seat "ok" Ruby ran off towards her sister "It was nice to meet you Jaune"

Jaune waved a goodbye. and sat down to watch the initiation.

Ruby zoomed over to Yang as fast as she could "so how did talking to Vomit boy go." Yang teased. Ruby punched her sisters arm"You meany, you ditched me and I got yelled at"

"What" Yang exclaimed thinking that it was Jaune that had been the one yelling "oh let me at him" she said Her blond hair seemingly bursting into flame. The students near Yang were very afraid and were now moving seats "Eek" Ruby exclaimed, grabbing Yang, trying to stop her. "He didn't yell at me, he helped me." Ruby said as she held onto Yang's arm. Yang stopped "oh, ok" sitting back down. Ruby breathed a sigh of relief. Jaune sneezed oblivious to the obvious danger that he was in. Ruby began to explain to her sister what had happened. I tripped over someone's luggage, and then she yelled at me, and then Jaune tried to help and then she yelled at me again, and I felt really, really bad, and I just wanted her to stop yelling!"

Yang now feeling very bad that her sister did not have a good experience, "ok maybe next time I won't throw you in the deep end" Yang said apologetically.

A woman walked in front of the group. Ruby asked Yang quickly Who's that? The person began to speak. "Hello, and welcome to Beacon! My name is Glynda Goodwich

"Oh" Ruby said quickly ducked her head out of embarrassment.

"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect and better our world."

Glynda continued "The headmaster of Beacon academy Professor Ozpin will say a few words." A man walked in. Everyone got quiet as he walked into the room. The man had white hair, but it didn't seem to be because of age. He got up to the podium and began to speak.

"Welcome to Beacon academy, I'll keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to acquire new skills, to work towards a better future. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. You will need someone who can guide you in the right direction."

He walked off of the stage and Professor Goodwich began to speak again. "For those who are non-combatant students please go to the left and for the combat students your combat gear will be in your designated lockers."

Ruby rushed over to Jaune and looked extremely excited. "Jaune, I can finally show you my weapon." Ruby grabbed Jaunes arm and began dragging him to the lockers. Jaune looked very confused and Yang laughed, watching as her sister dragged her new friend away.

The lockers looked like your normal school lockers that had a number code on them. students were each looking for their locker. Ruby normally didn't like talking to people but if it involved her weapon she was happy.

"So, you seem awfully happy Ruby" Yang teased her sister as she opened her locker "Yep! No more awkward small talk or "getting-to-know-you" stuff, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking. She yanked out a small compact looking weapon.

"Oh my baby, did you miss me, those mean guys threw you in here without me" she began to comfort her weapon as if it had feelings. Yang looked at Jaune and shrugged.

Jaune looked at the small object. It didn't look anything like the picture; it seemed more compact. Ruby pushed a button and the scythe expanded in a flash unfolding. Ruby stood with her scythe out grinning. It was almost twice as big as her.

Jaune ducked avoiding the now giant scythe. Yang Grabbed her own weapon Putting it onto her wrist. They were a pair of golden bracers with what looked like shotgun shells on the side. Yang clenched her fist and they expanded into gauntlets.

Ruby putting her scythe away asked jaune a question "What does your sword look like?" Ruby asked, curious.

Jaune looked at the locker number that was given to him. "It's in locker 636 I have to grab it, don't make fun of it" Jaune waved and raced off looking for his locker. Ruby waved and Yang punched her arm jokingly. She rubbed her arm.

Jaune saw where he needed to go. Jaune sighed, " just my luck the universe must hate me" he said Weiss and a friend were standing in front of his locker. They were talking

"So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!"

Pyrrha didn't quite know what to say "Hmm, I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may."

Weiss didn't notice Pyrrha's apprehension but continued "Well, I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together.

"Well, that sounds grand!"

Weiss "Great!" "This will be perfect! The smartest girl in class combined with the strongest girl in class! I can see it now! Nothing can come between us now" Weiss was broken from her stupor of thought.

"Hi Weiss,' Jaune said waving to Weiss innocently

Weiss, seeing Jaune rolled her eyes and shook her head. "oh, it's you again, what do you want?"

"I am just getting to my locker" Jaune replied, pointing to the locker behind them.

Weiss moved out of the way and Jaune began to get ready so he could go back to meet up with Ruby and her sister. Weiss scoffed as she saw his sword. "I don't know how they let you into Beacon"

Jaune, noticing ignored Weiss, he turned to the other girl. She had red hair, she was taller than Jaune. She was wearing armor and looked very strong. "My name's Jaune" He stuck out his hand.

"Pyrrha" Pyrrha said shaking his hand.

Weiss shook her head as she saw Jaune introduce himself. Weiss interrupted, "Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?

"Not in the slightest, snow angel."

This is Pyrrha.

"Hello again" Pyrrha waved at Jaune

Weiss looked annoyed "Pyrrha graduated top of her class at Sanctum!"

Jaune looked confused, "I haven't heard of it."

Weiss continued " She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments four years in a row A new record!" Weiss continued looking for a response "She stared in talk shows, and she even was on a cereal box"

Jaune rubbed the back of his head "Nope not a single clue, but that's pretty cool they only do that for star athletes." "You must be pretty good." Pyhrra laughed. "Yeah, it was a pretty cool experience. Sadly, cereal isn't very good for you." Pyrrha seemed pleased at the fact that Jaune didn't know who she was.

Weiss was shocked "You've never heard of Pyrrha" Weiss was amazed at how dumb a person could be. It was as if I was from another planet. "Have you lived under a rock"

"No I haven't, I am just from another world" Jaune thought to himself. He laughed at his thought thinking about how no one would believe him if he told anyone.

Weiss was peeved that Jaune was laughing at her "You think this is funny" I hope you don't become a leader, that would be a disaster."

Jaune flinched at what Weiss said

Pyrrha jumped in "Actually, Jaune, I think you'd make a great leader"

Weiss scoffed ''please do not encourage him," she said as she walked away.

The speakers made a reminder "Would all first-year combat students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year Combat students report to Beacon Cliff immediately."

Pyrrha then waved to jaune as she left "It was nice meeting you!"

Jaune smiled, waving back "Likewise"

Yang ran past Jaune "Hey there lady killer, how are you doing?"

Jaune laughed, "I am doing good" He noticed Ruby eye his weapons with great interest. He handed it to her to inspect it

"This is impressive, It is extremely sharp" Ruby handed it back to jaune.

Yang grabbed Ruby's hood and began to drag her to the cliffs "c'mon ruby we need to go" Jaune followed laughing at their antics.

The cliffs were very imposing and Jaune was starting to have a bad feeling. They all looked over the lush forest. Hundreds of students were grouped together all waiting for it to start. Ozpin and Glynda looked very imposing standing watching over the new students. Glynda adjusted her glasses and she looked at her device. Glynda spoke up "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates today.

"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."

Ruby groaned, not very excited about having to have teams

"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path or you will die"

Jaune laughs nervously and then gulps loudly. He noticed that the other students did not seem to be too worried.

"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing your objective. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately.

Ozpin spoke up after Glynda had finished her explanation. "Are there any questions?"

Jaune raised his hand. "Yeah, um, sir?" students began to get onto a platform and it began to launch them into the sky. Jaune watched worriedly. Yang put on a pair of aviators and cracked her neck. she winked at the group of students "Ready to go" she laughed as she was sent flying. Ruby Was shortly after Weiss and Pyrrha as well.

Ozpin ignored Jaune and continued "Now, take your positions" he said

Jaune, still raising his hand, "Uh, sir? I've got a question." Ozpin looked at Jaune, not saying anything. "So did you hand out parachutes for us?" Juane asked as he approached the cliffside. He looked over the cliff nervously

Ozpin smirked "No, you will be using your own "landing strategy."

Jaune Gulped as he was flung into the forest below.
