Computer
Amuno had a severe headache. The cause of it was obviously something called dealing with rich spoiled uncultured Zoldyck itis. (Also known as Illumi.)
Amuno had to go through the whole process of buying things because Illumi had never bought his own stuff. Then because all the butlers would do the research, Illumi had a scant understanding of computers. For once, Amuno was glad that when William had started tinkering with his Meteor City scraps her 4 year old self had asked him about it.
He tried explaining, but his scraps weren't close to what he wanted to make, so he left home for an hour and came back with a computer, Iphone, and some cameras. He told her everything. Amuno had watched mesmerized as Williams' fingers flew across the computer and seemed to know exactly what to do with the scraps.
She had also learned a lot about computers and websites. Now she was explaining all this to a boy two years older than her.
It was hard. William was better at explaining than her. Or maybe Illumi was just stupid or something. It got through eventually, but not before Amuno had suffered a migraine.
"Computers seem pretty useful. How come I've never seen them at home?"
"Probably because all the servants do all the computer stuff." Amuno sighed.
"Oh okay." for a boy who had grown up as a cold assassin he looked like a kid sometimes. Strange because when Amuno had first met him, he had been frosty. But Amuno had thought that was cool. Assassins seemed to have it all, proper training, emotional control, and every respect for them.
"That aside let's practice Nen."
"Alright."
After a long session and having Illumi flex his Manipulator abilities, Amuno headed home with weapons clattering echoing in her head. Illumi wasn't available for a week after that meeting. Amuno, after conjuring weapons that she honestly wasn't that satisfied with, was lonely.
"Both of you brats! I've got good news!"
"What?" William and Amuno yelled.
"Cherice will be visiting soon."
Cherice was Amuno's cousin. 4 years older than her, she had dropped by when she was 5 and Amuno had enjoyed her company. They had joked around. Cherice was a little of a shy crybaby, but she was kind and very straightforward. She was honest to an alarming point. The best part about her visit was that Amuno's dad had dropped in halfway.
Her dad was nice. He had picked her up and called her a princess. Princesses. Mitsura had called her that too. When she had asked Mom what a princess was, Mitsura had answered. She said that a princess was someone that everyone loved and was lovely.
Amuno didn't even know what lovely meant but she thought the idea of everyone loving her sounded nice. Cherice had looked a little disappointed when she found out that no one in the house was around her age, but after a while Amuno and her had gotten along splendidly. She was also William's girlfriend.
The next day Cherice came.
"Your girlfriends here!" Amuno shouted.
"She's not my girlfriend!" William responded while he hurried down the stairs.
"Isn't she your friend?"
"Yeah!"
Cherice looked at me. She looked a little confused and was blushing a little.
"Are you saying she's not a girl?"
"It doesn't work like that." Cherice sighed.
"Okay. Put down your stuff. You can sleep with my sister." William grunted.
"Me?" Parasite (who looked like she was 4) stumbled towards Amuno.
"Yes you."
"Hi." Parasite smiled shyly at Cherice. Cherice patted her on the head.
"How old are you?"
"About a month."
Cherice was taken aback for a second, before glancing at William and Amuno and then recovering. Cherice seemed to not have inherited the ability to hide shock at things that made no sense. Made sense. She was adopted.
No one really cared about her shock. I mean, Amuno believed anyone would freak out a little if someone had cat-ears, purple curly hair, looking like she was 4, and fluent language was actually a month old.
Kind of made Amuno wish her dad was human.
Illumi had observed the house for a device and had come dry. He wondered whether his family really had a computer. According to Amuno, their house didn't have one either until her brother had stolen them to show her how it worked.
Illumi sighed. The entire two weeks had been either the butlers were too alert, he had night time training, or he had been tortured.
Eventually he got kind of bored and lonely so the next night where he had conveniently been tortured, he snuck out to meet Amuno.
Amuno was there of course but she looked a little upset.
"You missed my bir-OH MY GOD ILLUMI YOUR HANDS!"
Illumi self-consciously shoved his hands down his pockets. They weren't even as bad as some other parts of his body, but Amuno didn't need to know that. Amuno held his right hand like it was a flower petal.
"Illumi are you dying?"
"No."
"What happened then?"
"Something called pain endurance training."
"Your parents do this to you?"
"Well sometimes not them, like a butler or something."
Amuno just stared. She blinked.
"I see you don't want to talk about this," Illumi nodded, "Okay. Cool. Alright. Illumi, say that you're alright."
"Im fine." Illumi sighed.
Amuno glanced incredulously at his hands. She took a deep breath.
"Instead of practicing Nen, how about we just talk. Take it from the top."
"Okay."
"You missed my birthday."
"When was that?"
"Yesterday! I was so disappointed! Do you even have a present?"
"No. I never got any present for my birthday."
"Yeah. Because you're a freak. But me? No! You're so rude!"
"Uh…" Illumi didn't want to tell her that he had never gotten a present because she might use that 'Oh my god your parents are SO weird.' tone and make the 'What is going on in your FAMILY?' face.
"Oh that's right, what day is it?" Amuno swiftly changed the topic.
"Last day of May." Illumi didn't ask why Amuno didn't know this stuff but felt that she might get uncomfortable if he asked.
"My foster cousin visited a week ago."
"Oh."
"Why are you so awkward? I'm trying to carry a conversion and you're just like 'Yeah, okay umm.' are you trying to kill me?"
"If I was trying to kill you you would be dead."
Amuno made a face that from what Illumi knew of her meant something around the lines of 'This brat has the nerve to be arrogant'.
"Fine then be like that!" Amuno stormed away, before stopping and going back to talk with Illumi.
Illumi didn't remember the rest of the chat, but he did know that he felt much less lonely by the end of it.
The next day he asked, "Hey mom, do you think I'm awkward?"
Kikyo turned around looking extremely surprised (as much as she could with that huge eye device), "Yes. A little Illu."
"Mom. Do we have anyone in the house who is good with computers?"
"Not many. Why do you aske?"
Illumi improvised, "I just thought Milluki might be good with this stuff because…"
"He's retarded at everything else." Kikyo finished, then stormed away.
Illumi didn't know what was with his mother sometimes. Besides the fact that he had just slipped out of a situation that could have been messy, he did not understand Kikyo's reaction one bit.
And he was slightly offended to be called awkward.
"So I asked my mom whether she thought I was awkward, and she said yes."
Amuno laughed, "I was right!"
"She seemed really surprised though."
"It's not everyday someone asks their parents the obvious. It's like if I asked my mom if I was extroverted."
"You are so…"
"Utterly honest." Amuno smirked.
"I don't know what to do with you sometimes."
"Don't do anything, I'm perfect the way I am."
Illumi looked her up and down, "Maybe."
Amuno was taken extremely aback and it took her a couple seconds to recover. She suddenly grew really, really, uncomfortable. She wasn't used to the whole, honest and straightforward thing. It didn't run in the family.
Cherice was an entirely different story. One time, she and Amuno were playing and William had butted in.
"Go away!" Amuno had shooed, "We don't want to waste time on boys with-"
"Pretty eyes." Cherice had interrupted causing William to get socially awkward.
Then Uncle Ben (his actual name was Derek but he looked like a Ben so that's what he was) came in too.
"The girls are as silent as a mouse but at least she's got class." He grinned, ruffling Williams hair.
All of that combined made William so embarrassed that Amuno had to shove him from the room because apparently his legs weren't working.
Amuno had to sit down too.
"You're a lot like Cherice." was all she could manage.
"Huh? Whose that?"
"Oh did I not tell you? My foster cousin."
"You never told me her name." Illumi clarified, annoyed.
"Oops." Amuno said ruefully, "How about you?"
Illumi's face brightened as he talked about everything going on in his family. He really loves them huh? Amuno mused.
"Silva's nicer to me." Illumi added like it was the most satisfying thing ever.
"Eh? Who?"
"My father."
"Why don't you just call him dad?"
"My dad…" Illumi seemed distracted, like the word 'dad' seemed to roll off his tongue awkwardly.
Amuno looked down and instantly regretted it. If Yesterday Illumi's hands were bad, today was horrible. She ripped her attention away from it.
"So how is your dad being nicer to you?"
Illumi began talking again.
Amuno didn't know much about the whole 'everybody loving her' idea. But she thought that the way everyone she knew was to her now, she was pretty happy.
