Everyone noticed the half-elf girl in a rather lucrative dress interrupting the Hostess of the Event, Annerose, with great ferocity. All eyes were now focused on the two who were standing at an elevated position overlooking the entire Dining Hall. On a platform roughly ten feet off the main floor which everyone else was standing on, Emilia saw her knight petrified near one of the off corners of the room. She shot him side glares almost as if she is not too pleased about wearing such a dress to this event.
But that did not matter to her on the appearance side of things for she was too oblivious to the intentions Subaru had helped design for her to wear. Well, that is not entirely true per say, Beatrice also helped Subaru in designing a new dress for Emilia. It is not that they wanted to do it however, a week ago, Emilia had asked him what two people actually do if they loved each other. Subaru attempted to flirt more about her after hearing this, but was quickly shot down in the response that was rhetorical.
However, this did not mean that Emilia did not have any feelings for her knight; she honestly had no idea on how to show it besides the casual lap pillows she gave him countless times throughout many loops she had and had not remembered in her past. Instead, Subaru told her about what two people do on their night they would get married. He proposed the idea of him making a dress for Emilia since he knew how to knit and sew, and Beatrice, who had 400 years of boredom and dread, also knew how to quickly pick up a habit from her Subaru. With their combined efforts, it came to life the night before this one. And honestly, Subaru took inspiration from the anime he watched.
Emilia's dress consisted of a lined purple, gray, and white color palette. Below her neck is where she rested her blue crystal where Puck was being stored for now. Further down had a butterfly insignia with visible cleavage above it. What is even more odd is the spiky thorns underneath the butterfly which exposed her belly button. However, albeit as exposing as the dress could be for Subaru's eyes, he honestly kept tame on the design. He could have made it a bikini dress if he wanted, but decided that if she would wear it, she would show it off to more people than himself to brag about it. But, alas, the dress finally concludes with a mimic of Beatrice's but in purple and gray.
[Emilia] Now that I have everyone's attention! We have received information that the state of the oil is safe and sound according to Annerose! I made sure to properly secure it after Otto-sama made sure to do his job with it! I know many of you are wondering where it is and everything, and we will get right to that in a moment! But first I just wanted to thank everyone here that came to the knighting ceremony a week ago! I was super happy that people wanted to see it! I'll make sure your vote in me is not wasted! But, yes, the whole reason you all came out tonight! Otto-sama, are you around here?
Emilia spoke with a loud tone that confirmed her status as a candidate. Many of the merchants were nodding their heads in anticipation while some were simply tapping their shoes on the hard floor below them. Emilia knew that she could not stay here forever and hog up the spotlight. This was not her event, but Otto's and Annerose's.
Instead of focusing about the promise she made to Otto, she only thought about two things. The first was the dress she was wearing and how the calm wind of the Estate was blowing through her dress. The second was her knight who she quickly zoned in after saying Otto's name. She could obviously see Otto, and made him act.
Otto waived his right hand high in the air as a calmness entered his body. For a second there, he thought he was defeated by Emilia's honesty. Maybe this can work..?
[Otto] Thank you all for coming out tonight! Ex-Excuse me, please… Yes! I am proud to announce that the Miload Estate will now present the oil you all came out to bid for!
Making his way to the staircase that connected to the outlook where Emilia and Annerose was standing, Otto had to ask a couple of fellow merchants to allocate space for him to get past them. Since this event was focused around him, those who were in his path humbling moved out of his direction. A few moments passed as Otto continued.
[Otto] Ah, there you are Annerose-sama. I tried finding you a couple of minutes ago.
[Annerose] Hmph. Emilia sure was persuasive today in her questions for me today.
[Otto] Ahhh… Well, she's a girl who's curious about new environments, right..?
[Emilia] It wasn't all questions, Annerose… You helped me put on this new dress!
[Annerose] That I did, yes. If it was up to me, I wouldn't wear such a vulgar dress.
[Otto] You know Subaru and Beatrice were the ones that made this, do you not?
[Annerose] And? I swear, the only thing that boy is good for is to keep Clind busy.
Ouch. If only Subaru could hear the vile words coming from his landlord. As their sudden chat began, Annerose was standing by a small pedestal that could not be seen from below the elevated position. On this marble stand was Otto's merchant hat that he had placed before regrouping back with Subaru and the others who were by his side.
Grabbing that hat as Annerose talked about Emilia's dress, Otto secretly scoffed at her words of deception. Surely Emilia's dress was not that bad on the eyes of others. If only Annerose could see the clothes the woman who burned to ashes wore… if only. Under his hat was the jar he had placed moments ago, and slowly carried it in his arms.
[Otto] This oil has a purity rating of 99.1% and has been expertly extracted from the mines in Gusteko! We all know Gusteko is a place where even businessmen such as myself are hesitant to travel due to its cold atmosphere and mountainous geography! For the specific region this oil used to reside was from Pardochia! Let me show you…
Announcing the lore and location of where this oil came out, Otto allured many of the merchants of the wrong with simply his word play. But as a merchant, and coming all the way out here for this exclusive event, Otto knew he had to show a sample of its appearance. And after saying his last sentence, he pointed his head directly at Beatrice.
Beatrice, who was holding the hand of the now confirmed and ready contractor, quietly whispered a familiar spell she was all too accustomed to performing in the past.
[Beatrice] OI Shamak.
Subaru gritted his teeth when he heard her say this. This finally meant that the plan was now set in motion and he had to hope her new use of Shamak can be successful. Ever since Clind told them about spell-bound contracts a few hours ago, Subaru and Beatrice formed a plan to use the most used spell between them two. Shamak was obviously the only thing Subaru had for him, and a spell he had the most practice for. But ever since losing his gate through fighting Garfiel in the Sanctuary, Subaru had missed those get out of dodge moments that saved him countless times.
However, OI Shamak was not as the other three versions of Shamak Beatrice had under her domain. This specific new use of Shamak only had one purpose to serve and in order to pull that spell off needed almost three days of stored mana to perform. It would have been less depending on the amount of people in the room, but it was not so.
Beatrice had now performed a mind altering version of Shamak that manipulated the sense of sight to everyone in the room besides Subaru and Otto. The merchant who was standing above everyone else had to pray that this spell was working. He knew Beatrice could pull something like this off, but not sure on the duration of the effects.
[Otto] I am going to draw a small line of the oil out onto this slide of glass right here!
Below the balcony had an average sized mirror that was part of the Estate's decoration. Otto had already arranged that he could do this with Annerose on the condition that he had to clean it up afterwards. And since his plans took a sour turn after those arrangements, Otto knew that this was his best option to remove and deceit later.
Otto placed his right index finger into the now exposed jar and closed his eyes. Everyone was focused on the jar now similar to a collected hive mind. Presenting his finger with a gulp, Otto quickly drew a line down the mirror and the crowd went wild.
[?] It can't be! That is the most lucrative thing I've ever seen!
[?] No way! This merchant had this type of oil the whole time?!
[?] Praise be to the merchant who will bless this fundraiser!
Subaru looked at Beatrice who was on his side and tightened his grip for her attention. She quickly turned to him and he saw the smuggest look she ever expressed. On the other side of the room now showcased a merchant with his eyes wide open. Looking down below him, was a brown trail that had faded near the bottom of the mirror.
[?] How can such oil glow like that?! Did Odglass perform miracles on it?
Subaru, hearing one of the merchants on his side saying this, looked at Beatrice.
[Beatrice] Odglass is the name of one of the Great Spirits, in fact. Are you satisfied?
[Subaru] Thank you, Beako. I didn't even have to say the question to you at all.
[Beatrice] Betty knows what's on your mind, I suppose. You are Betty's Subaru.
He gave a wry smile and continued to listen to the merchants yelling off words.
[?] -Odglass? If that Great Spirit showed favor to this oil, then this is PRICELESS.
[?] IMPOSSIBLE! HOW MUCH IS IT FOR THE STARTING BID, OTTO-SAMA?!
Otto recognised that voice who dominated the entire floor beneath him. It was no other than the merchant who spoke to him in the hallway. But with the key word said-
[Otto] The starting bid for the Oil from Gusteko will now begin at five sacred gold coins.
Immediately saying this, the words: six, seven, eight, nine, ten, even twenty rushed out from countless individuals. Thirty. Fourty. Every thirty seconds that past almost seemed to add another ten to the bid. Whatever Beatrice did surely affected their sense of sight… but whatever happened next would solely come down to Otto's actions.
Would he sell low in order to not form an inescapable debt from the one who would buy this and realized they were tricked? Would he offer them substitute oil in perpetuity? Would he continue with this plan and see how far it could take him?
[Otto] The bid is now at one hundred sacred gold coins! It will continue-
[?] THREE HUNDRED SACRED GOLD COINS!
The crowd turned silent as a man stepped into view. They were a small demi-human wearing a monocle on his left eye. The small figure had pointed ears that extended from their orange hair. Many people did not recall this figure's name but-
[Subaru] Tivey?! What are you doing here out of the blue? How long have you been-
[Tivey] I'll repeat myself once again! The offer I am willing to go is three hundred!
Tivey noticed the boy in the butler outfit and shifted his head back to Otto. The crowd became silent as Otto was now forced to start speaking as a countdown timer.
[Otto] I-well… Ten… Nine… Eight…
[Tivey] I only recently got in here… Anastasia-sama would have killed me if I was late!
[Subaru] So does that mean Anastasia is also with you tonight, Tivey..?
[Tivey] Unfortunately not. We had to take a side detour and they sent only me to come.
Subaru breathed out slightly as a sigh of relief and turned back to Otto.
[Otto] ...Three… Two… Going once! ...Going twice! Anyone else? We have a winner!
Most of these merchants had brought up to 150 sacred gold coins, none of them had the capital to fight against the servitude of one of the richest women in Lugnica. Anastasia is a woman you really would not like double crossing in a trade deal. And as the whispers of the crowd grow more vile against the small winning courier, many of them scoff at the idea that Anastasia is now sent envoys to secure every single deal.
Tivey was no stranger to this circle of hate forming around him, but he carried on despite hearing some of the whispers. Instead of focusing on the hate, he decided to continue talking to the butler in front of him. Even in a uniform, Subaru was still himself.
[Tivey] Were you shocked to see me? I see you have a little accomplice now, Subaru.
[Beatrice] Who are you calling little, I suppose. I'm much taller than you, in fact.
[Tivey] I was simply playing around with you… Well…
[Beatrice] Betty will forgive your transgressions, I suppose.
[Tivey] I will honor those words, Betty.
[Subaru] Her actual name is Beatrice, and she is my lovely contracted spirit.
[Tivey] Oh… Wait! Is this what they meant by lolimancer?!
[?] Oh yeah! It's the lolimancer now that I think about it. Hahahahahahaha!
More and more merchants around the three began messing around with the well dressed butler who was holding hands with the vividly bright child by his side. Subaru turned to Beatrice and bent down to whisper a few words in her exposed ear.
[Subaru] So… how long does OI Shamak effects last for? Is it-
[Beatrice] I… I have no idea, in fact. It should be over now, I… suppose?
Great. After practicing it against a single target hours ago, Subaru could conclude the effects of OI Shamak can last for half an hour. It was quite amusing watching Otto stare at some paperwork in front of him as the two goofed around in the Office Room. But with the effects of over twenty people in this Dining Hall, Beatrice had no idea on how long such a newly created spell could last on multiple individual souls.
That unknown tormented Beatrice, petrified Subaru, and isolated Otto. Speaking of Otto, the merchant quickly wiped away the traces of the oil that was on the mirror and gave the jar to Annerose for safe keeping and delivery of such a delicate item as this.
[Emilia] Now that we have a winner! Let's get ready for the banquet we had prepared!
[Annerose] I humbly grant the winning merchant to meet me after the event is over!
And with the whispered insults of Lolimancer dying off near Subaru, due to Emilia and Annerose, the crowd all collectively cheered for the feast of a lifetime soon to be.
