And another crapper plopped out boys and girls.
"Oi the fuck do you two think you're doing?" I scowled at them and began making my way across.
They froze and three pairs of eyes shot to me and Grovyle.
"Beat it kid," the blonde grunted, "You don't want none of this."
"Please help me!" Rui pleaded with me, blue eyes fearful. Hmm, now that I think about it, what's with all the main pokemon girls having some form of blue eyes? May, Dawn, Serena, Lillie and shit all have blue eyes.
I put it out of mind, "I think I do want some of this actually," I glared at the blonde, and proceeded to make a show of curling my left palm around my now clenched right fist and cracking my fingers audibly, threateningly, "Let her go, before I beat your asses." I don't need to make my pokemon kick the asses of a pair of thugs, I can do that myself.
After all, I'm much more a thug than these tools.
"Tch!" the other one clicked his tongue and let go of Rui, "Keep a hold of her Folly, I'll deal with this brat." he sneered at me as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a pokeball and began stalking over to meet me.
"Duskull, Night Shade!" he shouted, tossing the ball into the air and releasing the pokemon inside.
A skull masked floating grey coloured pokemon appeared in front of him, red eyes beginning to glow with dark energy.
"Leaf Blade!" I countered.
Grovyle disappeared in a blur of speed, just as twin dark beams launched from Duskull's eyes towards me and then a green flash rent them apart, reducing them to little more than sparks.
"Dusss!" the ghost let lose a wail of pain as Grovyle appeared walking behind it casually, twin scythe blades of glowing green energy suddenly jutting from his wrists.
"Duskull, no!" the guy shouted in shock as the ghost type fell to the ground in a heap. If the blonde was Folly, then that made this guy, Trudly if I remember right?
But damn, Grovyle is so fast it's unreal. And that was so badass!
"So, wanna try this again?" I smirked at him, "Let her go, or I'm gonna punch your face in."
"Kick his ass Trudy, don't let this kid walk over you!" Folly shouted to him.
Trudly gritted his teeth and recalled his Duskull, "Don't go getting full of yourself kid!" He quickly pulled out another pokeball, "My other pokemon is way stronger, come out Makuhita!" he released the pokemon inside and a squat yellow pokemon about three and a half feet in height appeared in front of him.
A gasp came from Rui, "That pokemon!" her eyes went wide and her face whipped to look at me, "Be careful, there's something wrong with that pokemon! It has some kind of dark aura around it and it's really powerful!"
My eyebrows rose up into my hairline at the information, 'That's right, this guy did have the Shadow Makuhita in the game didn't he!' I remembered.
"Mow it down, Shadow Rush!" Trudly snarled.
The Makuhita didn't make a sound as a familiar dark aura of energy swirled into existence around its form like a cloak of armour and it launched itself at Grovyle.
My grass type scoffed and jumped up and backwards easily dodging the attack as the fighting type slammed into his previous position with enough force to make the ground shake and crater the spot noticeably.
Grovyle flipped mid-air and landed back in front of me, "Gro!" he grinned at me and settled into a crouch stance, ready to move at a moments notice.
"Don't let it escape!" Trudly snarled, "Cross Chop it!"
Makuhita turned towards Grovyle, arms and hands beginning to light up with the glow of power.
"Iron Tail it," I said in response to the grass type, getting a nod from him, "Then X-scissor it, get it in front of me." I added, reaching into my pocket and grabbing an empty shrunken pokeball with my right hand.
In response, the twin leaf-like tails on Grovyle's lower back took in a metallic glowing sheen just as Makuhita gave a shout and launched through the air towards Grovyle like a bullet, glowing arms crossed in front of its face in an X-shape, the air visibly warping from the force behind it.
Grovyle shot forward in a blur once more and twisted, lashing out with one tail that met the Cross-Chop head on. A shockwave blasted in all directions from the force of the clash and it actually pushed me back a step.
The clash held up for a moment, before Grovyle began getting pushed back. Grovyle was pushed back a few steps, before he gave a shout and spun low, lashing out with his second leaf tail and slamming his iron tail into Makuhita's feet. It gave a reflexive shout of pain as the powerful blow swept its feet from under it and knocked it into the air.
Grovyle continued with his spin, twin scythes erupting from his wrists once again as he got behind Makuhita's airborne form, only this time, they were a crimson red in colour.
"Gro!" he slashed them across Makuhita's open back, a loud cry of pain erupting from the pokemons throat.
It slammed into the ground hard two feet or so in front of me and laid there for a moment before it began to slowly struggle to its feet.
The Snag Machine is actually quite simple to work you know? It has tiny little buttons on each finger and to use it, all you need to do is press those buttons in around a pokeball.
Which is what I was in the process of doing while the grass and fighting types clashed. A purple glow bled out of the fingers of the Snag Machine around my hand and seeped into the pokeball I'd pulled out.
Before Makuhita could get to its feet, I threw the ball. It smacked it in the back of the head and popped open and my heart thudded in my chest as read energy exploded out of the ball and wrapped around Makuhita's form, before sucking it inside!
"What the hell!?" Trudly screamed in shock as the pokeball hit the ground and began wobbling back and forth.
"Trudy is it?" I raised an eyebrow at him mockingly even as Grovyle snorted and crossed his arms, "Yeah, how about no mate? I'm not letting a guy like you keep a shadow pokemon."
"..He knows what they are!?" Folly gaped in shock, letting go of Rui who used the chance to sprint away from him run over to me, quickly getting behind me.
"Feh, who cares how he knows!" Trudly growled, "How the hell did he catch my pokemon when it isn't wild is what I wanna know!"
"Fuck you that's how." I smirked, flipping him the bird.
A second later, the pokeball rocking back and forth stopped and a 'ping' sound came from it, and my smirk grew even larger. My first ever proper capture!
Kind of...
I walked over, no rather, I swaggered over and picked it up, "So, got anymore Shadow Pokemon Trudy?" I asked, before looking at his blonde friend, "Or what about you, you got any?"
Folly took a fearful step back, "N-no I don't have one, only Trudly did!" he denied in a panic.
"..Shit." Trudly breathed out before outright turning away from me and running away in the opposite direction, "Let's get out of here Folly, we gotta tell the boss about this punk!"
'Shit!' I cursed myself. My hand went to the machete hanging on my lower back, before stopping. I didn't even think of Mirror B when confronting these idiots!
And I can't just kill them. Not with Rui watching. I could beat them silly, but it won't silence them. Grovyle looked at me in askance, but I shook my head.
They were quick to get in their truck and they drove off at top speed just a few moments later.
'Oh well, at the very least if they act anything like in the game they won't move against me openly.' I consoled myself.
Cipher didn't act out against Wes in the game much at all really. From what I remember now that I think about it, they barely paid attention to him even after he crashed Mirror B's hideout.
"Umm, thanks for helping me." Rui broke me from my thoughts.
I turned and looked at the girl while Grovyle made his way over and stood at my side. Looking at her up close now, I realise she's got to be a few years older than me. Which made sense, Wes was designed to be older than the usual game protagonists at around 17-18 years old and Rui should be around the same age.
"No problem," I replied with a wave of my hand, before frowning at her, "What's with those guys? Why were they trying to drag you off? You know them from somewhere or piss them off?"
I of course knew the exact reason why those two were trying to kidnap her. I just wasn't expecting it to happen so soon, or in front of me at all. 'Well, at least it lets me know where I am exactly when it comes to Colosseum.' I mused inwardly.
"No, nothing like that," Rui shook her head, "It was just that...Shadow Pokemon was it you called it? The one you caught somehow. They were showing it off in a battle against someone earlier and I could just see like a dark aura all around it constantly, it looked really weird, but nobody else could see it but me, and when I brought it up with them they grabbed me and started dragging me away."
I made a show of raising my eyebrows, "You can actually see the shadow power stuff without them using it in a battle?" I asked.
She grimaced, "Yeah, and from what I gather, that isn't supposed to happen right, since nobody else could see it?" the orange haired girl sighed, before eyeing me, "What even are they? Shadow Pokemon, why are they called that?"
I shrugged, "I don't actually know how they get turned into Shadow Pokemon," I answered truthfully, "What I do know is it gives pokemon this weird shadow energy and makes them stronger, but at the same time it makes them lose most of their emotions and turns them into fighting machines that will obey any order given to them by the one that sends them out of their pokeball."
"..That's horrible," her cute nose wrinkled in disgust, "Who would do something like that?"
"Team Cipher apparently," I replied with a shrug, "Them and Team Snagem are working together, and they're giving the shadow pokemon out to anyone who wins at the Pyrite Colosseum."
"..I've heard of Snagem, but I've never heard of Cipher before," she frowned, before giving a pointed look at the device on my arm, "And what about that?"
"I stole it from Team Snagem actually, alongside a few Shadow Pokemon," I replied. A bit stupid to come clean, but honestly, being truthful with Rui will help in the long run, she'll be useful, "It's called the Snag machine, it can be used to capture pokemon already owned by other people and I plan on using it to rescue all the shadow pokemon."
Rui bit her lip, "I guess the fact I could see it meant they couldn't hide them as easy or something?" She thought out loud, before giving me a worried look, "What if they come back for me?"
"They probably won't be back for a while, and I think they'll be more focused on me to be honest," I pointed out, "And as long as you have some place out of the way that you stay at then you should be fine."
She shook her head, "I'm from Agate Village, most people who live there are old and retired, I can't go back there if I might have a target on my head."
Honestly, her grandfather had one of the highest level pokemon in the main game, and if it had thunderbolt or something instead of just Quick Attack, it would have rinsed the Cipher dude and his Shadow Hitmontop when they were at the Relic Stone.
"Agate huh?" I hummed, "Pretty far from home aren't you? What are you doing out here?" Agate Village is actually the furthest settlement from Phenac City.
"Ah," she chucked sheepishly, "I'm out looking for a pokemon actually. My grandparents told me it was about time I went out and got one for myself since everyone in Agate Village is a trainer."
Huh, so that's what she was doing. I was always curious why she had left her village behind and now knew why.
"Looking for a pokemon out here?" I chuckled, giving a pointed look at the vast, vast expanse of sand, sand and more sand.
Rui pouted at me, "Hey, it's not like there's none out here!" she replied, "Sure they're rare, but I've already ran into an Onix and I've only been searching for two days, granted it dug away back underneath the ground before I could throw my pokeball at it, but still!"
Huh, there's Onix out here? Nice. I'll keep that in mind, a Steelix would be awesome to have.
"Well, a pokemon of your own would go a long way to keeping you safe," I nodded, "You'd be better heading to Gateon Port though, it's connected to the ocean and there'll be tons of pokemon out there."
Rui grimaced, "Are you kidding?" she gaped at me, "The water around Gateon Port is filled with Gyarados, nobody with any sense will try to catch pokemon there."
..Hello what's this? That's definitely something else to keep in mind.
"So what will you do then?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at her, "Just gonna stick around here and try and find a pokemon?"
The orange haired girl nodded slowly, "I'll have to...unless.." she trailed off.
"Unless?" I prompted her to continue.
"Unless you let me tag along with you?" she smiled at me hopefully, "Like it's not like I won't be earning my way right? I have my own money and I can totally see any of these Shadow Pokemon for you, right? And you want to save them all, so it's a win win, right?"
I paused at her words and considered them. 'Hmm.' I mused inwardly. On one hand, having someone along could crimp my style a bit on how I want to approach things.
..But on the other hand.
My eyes briefly flickered to her chest for a split moment before looking away. 'She's absolutely stacked.' which was important. Eye candy is always important after all.
And her ability to see the Shadow Pokemon will be hella useful, and she can get me a in with her grandfather and everyone else at Agate Village. Connections are important, and the people at Agate are pretty influential
"I guess that should be fine." I answered a moment later.
"Yahoo!" she cheered, pumping her fist into the air happily, before stepping forward and wrapping her arms around my shoulders and hugging me happily, "Thanks a bunch!"
The squishy softness pressing up against my chest is thanks enough actually.
She pulled back suddenly, "Oh, I forgot," she lightly knocked herself on the forehead with her fist cutely, "I'm Rui by the way."
I already know, but still best to be polite and she obviously can't know that I know a ton about her because I played a video game that she was in, now can I? "I'm Jett, nice to meet cute stuff." I replied, giving her a smile and a wink.
Rui giggled at the light flirtation before clapping her hands together, "So what do we do now then? You said they were giving these Shadow Pokemon out at Pyrite Town when someone wins at the Colosseum, are we heading there?" she asked.
"Maybe," I shrugged, it was definitely one of my main stops. I'm gonna win the Colosseum there and get more prize money and stuff and see if they'll give me a shadow pokemon, "First of all though, I came here for a reason."
"Oh, what's that?" she asked curiously.
"To buy pokeballs." I answered, turning around and beginning to make my way back around the front of the Outskirt Stand, "Good work by the way, your were brilliant." I nodded to Grovyle as he followed along with me.
"Gro." he smirked back at me, chest puffing out proudly.
"Wait up Jett!" Rui called and jogged after me.
