That morning Will was feeling shattered… he was exhausted.
The day before he had worked a 12-hour shift and had spent the night unable to sleep a wink. He looked like a walking zombie.
He had thought about asking for a day off, but he couldn't afford it. He needed the money.
He was still in bed, a couple of hours before the alarm went off when he finally seemed to have dozed off. It was not more than a handful of minutes that he began to dream. His little sister was there in his arms that Christmas, the last time he saw her laughing, playing and cuddling with him. Without realizing it, tears began to gush from his eyes and he soon began to sob. After a while he woke up suddenly, panting and with a growing nausea that assailed him. Yes, he was awakened when in the dream he had relived the phone call from his mother who, sobbing, warned him of what had happened.
He quickly got out of bed and managed to get to the bathroom before throwing up.
As soon as the retching stopped she sat on the floor with her eyes closed and took a deep breath before realizing she had to get ready for work or she would be late.
A couple of hours later he was in front of the entrance to the ed. Yes, he felt terrible and hoped that no one would notice.
Natalie, who was perhaps the only one he couldn't hide anything from because she could read it like an open book, was out for a conference.
Already Nat. Yes he had promised to call her, they met every morning to say good morning as well as at other times of the day. But for them the good morning was important, it made them feel closer.
After putting his things in his locker, he picked up the phone and dialed the number. As he waited for her to respond he took a quick glance at her image in the mirror.
It was really masculine combined. His eyes were red, it was evident that he had cried for a long time and his nose was also red from having blown it several times. He had a sour, bitter taste in his mouth, the typical one that left bile after vomiting.
- Hey love - said Dr. Manning, - I thought you overslept or forgot about me.-
- Good morning my love, no how could I forget about you. I slept a little too much - Will replied telling her the first excuse he had come up with about Nat's assist. - I therefore decided to call you as soon as I got to work or I would be really late.
- hey is everything okay? You have such a hoarse voice. Did something happen? - she had found out, she could also hear the tone of voice through the phone.
- No, all right. I think I caught a good cold. - He told her.
Luckily the doctor believed him and he greeted her with the excuse that they were calling him for an arrival. Yes they promised to feel in the evening when they were both free.
Leaving the locker room, having changed, Will had to stop for a moment leaning against the wall because his head had started spinning. He went back into the doctors room, took a bottle of water and took a good sip.
As soon as he felt better he decided to throw himself headlong into work trying not to attract too much attention. Nobody was supposed to know how he felt. What had happened to him was no secret, but he didn't want to talk about it.
He didn't feel like it. As soon as he noticed Meggy he walked over to her. It needed a couple of hours. Even just hers, he wanted to ask her if she could cover him up for a while.
- Good heavens Will! You look awful! Are you sure you're okay? the nurse said to the doctor as soon as she saw him.
- Yes I'm fine. I think I caught a cold or maybe it's an allergy. - He answered
- Mamma mia, you really look like a rag. You took something? You are white as a ghost. continued Meggy.
- Don't worry, I took an anti-inflammatory this morning for breakfast. Anyway, I need a favor. - He told her.
- Tell me, what can I do for you? - she replied
- This afternoon I would need a couple of hours if you leave. Could you cover me? I wouldn't ask you if it wasn't really necessary. I have something to do with Jay. I'll get them back later. - He told her.
- And that's okay, but only because I feel very good today - she said - what time should you leave? -
- Jay will pick me up at 4:30 pm and I should be back around 6:30 pm. You're an angel Megg thank you - that said Will leaves to visit his patients.
