Arizona POV
"What the hell just happened?" I whispered to myself as I watched Callie leave the X-ray room. I take a deep breath and try to process what just happened 3 minutes ago. Callie was saying the nicest things that I couldn't help but want to be lose to her as much as possible . Did I almost just kiss Callie? I've never felt such a magnetic force before.
I take a moment to gather myself and I look down at the object in my hands and quickly remember that I was on my way to break the news to Jr. I can't imagine how he's gonna react to this.
"Hey, Timothy. I just got back Jake's scan and yes his cancer came back."
"Shit, Arizona. Now I have to amputate his leg!"
"Tim, I'm gonna tell the parents the news. Take your time then I'll come back and you can talk me through your plans." I say giving his hand a squeeze.
"Thanks Arizona. I appreciate that."
As I walked in to the room to tell Jake and his parents the news, I put my doctor face on. "Jake, Mr and Mrs. Fisher. I'm sorry to say this but, yes Jake's cancer is back, and as much as I hate to say this, we need to amputate from his knee down."
"I thought you said this was gonna be a cure!" Mr. Fisher snapped.
"Dad!"
"No son, they were supposed-"
"Dad, stop! She never said it was a cure. We all knew the risk. Dr. Robbins I'm sorry about that."
"Jake you don't need to apologize, I understand your father frustration."
"I do need to apologize, I know you and Dr. Robbins did everything you could. You shared the risks with me, so I knew amputation was a possibility. You gave me a chance Dr.Robbins when everyone else gave up. So no I'm not mad, I'm not hurt. I'm okay. Don't beat yourself up about it and tell that to your brother."
"Thank you Jake, I will. I'm gonna talk to Dr. Robbins and see if we can book an OR for you sometime this week. I'm hoping for tomorrow."
I stand up to leave.
"Dr. Robbins. I do owe you an apology. Seems to me that I'm never too old to be taught a lesson. Sadly it came from my son. But I'm sorry for placing all my anger on to you. You didn't deserve that."
"It's okay, Mr. Fisher. I understand. I'll be back soon."
"Thanks for being in there with me Zona." Timmy says wrapping his arm around me as we walked down the hall from Jake's room.
"No problem, you set for tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'm good. How about you?"
"I'll be okay, Jake is determined. So I know he'll be okay. And plus look at this." I say holding out my phone.
"I found a place here in Seattle that does ballet for amputees. He can jump in right after physical therapy. Also they have a specialist over at the studio that helps with recovery."
"Arizona, you are amazing."
"I'm not gonna tell him yet. It might be too soon. But I called and they're gonna email me some brochures. I'll give them to his mom, and I'll tell her to talk to him about it when he's ready. Jake might be to fragile to talk about it yet. So she would have to ease him into it."
"I don't know what to say Zona."
"Good shut up, let's get out of here. It's been a long day." Arizona lightly laughed.
"I'm not done yet, I have a few more consults. But I'll see you first thing in the morning."
"Sounds good, night Jr."
"Night, Zo."
Walking into my loft, I drop my bags on the ground and head straight to my wine cabinet. Today's been a tough day. Not only did my patient come back to the hospital with his cancer back full force, but now he has to get an amputation. Not to mention I almost just kissed Callie. I can't help thinking how amazing that kissed would've been. Callie was so thoughtful and sweet. She comforted me when I was hurt about my patient. When I looked into her eyes, I knew she meant each and every word.
I know I'm playing with fire every time she gets close to me, but I can't help it. After my third cup of wine I start to think, maybe Callie might worth the risk of getting burnt? I laughed out loud in my loft and put my glass down thinking that might be enough wine for this evening. I thought it would've calmed me down, but really it has me wound up.
I hop into my shower, trying to wash the day away and like always my mind starts to wander off to Callie. I can feel my dick start to stir. It's been a while since I've had sex, so naturally I'm horny as fuck. In my tipsy state of mind, I start to imagine Callie's beautiful plump lips wrapped around my dick. I start to stroke myself. I can only imagine how tight she must be, and the thought of being deep inside her while looking into those stunning brown eyes has me close enough to blow. A couple more stokes and I'm done for. "Fuck!" I moaned. Spraying my cum all over the shower walls. After rinsing off and cleaning my mess. I get dressed and I realized I just jerked myself off from just thinking of Callie. I seriously must have it bad for her.
I picked up a medical journal, hoping that it will tire me out and amazingly it did. Within a few minutes, I was fast asleep.
Callie POV
I need to find Mark or Addison, I need to get this off my chest. I'm not sure what to do. Never in my life has that ever happened to me. To be drawn so much to a person, that I was willing to make out with them in an X-ray room. I decide to find Mark first since his department is closest to mine, but he's in surgery.
So I make my way to Addison and thank god she's in her room.
"Hey Addie. Can I talk to you for a second?"
Addison puts her pen down and gives me all her attention "Sure Cal, what's up?"
"Umm.."
"Is everything okay?" She asked worriedly.
"IkissedthePedssurgeon." I rushed out.
"Wait what? Did you say you kissed the Peds surgeon? You kissed Arizona."
"Well almost. If Yang didn't bust through the X-ray doors. I'm sure I would've."
"Wow Callie, what happened?"
"She was upset. So I asked her what was wrong. She told me it was about her osteosarcoma patient is back. And well she really cares about her patients. So the only thing they can do now is amputate and she started talking about how surgery was her dream and she wouldn't know what she would do if one day it was taken from her, and now she feels like she's taking away this child's dream. I couldn't help thinking how amazing this woman is. So I'm not sure how it happened but I grabbed her hand and I told her that she wasn't taking his dreams and a few other nice things."
"And then what happened?" Addison says fully engaged into my story.
"Well she looked into my eyes and it was if we were magnets. We slowly inched towards each other. We were so close to kissing. I could feel her breath on my lips."
"Damn, that's something."
"Yeah, it was and I don't know what to do Addie. Tell me what to do! I'm going crazy here."
"Do you think you like her? Like really like her?"
"I'm not sure, I know she's funny, smart and beautiful, and not someone I could have a one night stand with."
"Okay, so you like her."
"Yeah." I huffed.
"Do you think Arizona likes you?"
"I think she does. We flirt all the time, but maybe she's a natural flirt."
"I don't think so. I work closely with her and I've never seen her flirt with her staff."
"You think she likes me?"
"I'm not sure, but I know someone who might know."
"Ooh, who tell me Addison?"
"Arizona, be an adult and talk to her." She deadpanned.
"I was hoping I didn't need to be an adult." I wined. "But you're right. I'll talk to her. Well I should be going now. I need to get Aiden."
"Callie for what it's worth. Arizona she would be good for you. And not just you. You and Aiden."
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves Addie."
"I know Cal, I'm just saying."
"I know. I love you Ads. Good night."
"Love you too, Cal. Night."
The next day after dropping Aiden off at daycare, I Decide to stop by the attending's lounge to make me a cup of coffee, I see that Timothy is the only one inside. He's sitting on the couch reading a chart.
"Morning Timothy."
"Morning Callie, how are you?"
"I'm good, how about you? Arizona told me that your osteosarcoma patient is back. Sorry about that."
"Yeah it sucks, but Jake has been surprisingly okay. He totally made peace with this. Also Arizona found a place that does ballet for amputees."
"Wow she did? She didn't tell me that."
"Yeah, she told me about it last night before she went home. So you have a transplant today?"
"Yeah I'm gonna drink this coffee and head down and check up on his charts his surgery is scheduled for another few hours."
Timothy crosses his arms and gives me a look, "How long do you think it's gonna take to finish this transplant?"
"Well considering this is his first transplant without a VAD. It should take 3-4 hours. Why?" I say lifting my eyebrow up.
"Well my surgery doesn't start till 3 and should take maybe 3 hours at the most. I would appreciate it if you could come and observe."
"Timothy what are you up to?" I laughed sitting next to couch across of him.
"Nothing. I would love if a fellow colleague could support another fellow colleague. That's all."
"Mhmm. Sure that's all."
"Hey, doesn't hurt to ask right? Also I'm sure Arizona would love it."
"Hmm so there it is."
"Callie, I'm just saying."
"Don't worry, my surgery should be done by then barring any complications."
"So you'll come observe?"
"Yes I'll be there. I might be there towards the end. But yes I'll be there."
"Thanks Callie."
"Don't thank me Timothy. I was gonna watch anyways. Well I better be going, before Yang goes scalpel hungry and do the transplant herself."
"Yeah, Yang she's a cowboy. Gotta watch that one."
"You telling me, I'll see you later Timothy."
Arizona POV
We are about an hour into the amputation, when I see Timmy look up at the gallery. I can't see his smile, but I can see the creases by his eyes. So I look up and I see Callie.
She smiles at Timmy and gives me a wink. I'm not sure what's going on between us, but I know I could feel a flutter in my chest.
"So, you gonna ask her out?"
My head shoots up and see if the intercom is on. Thank god it's not. I hear Timmy chuckling.
"Timothy Daniel Robbins, you scared the shit out of me. Don't ever do that again."
"Sorry Zona, so are you gonna answer my question?"
"Nope, not here. Especially not in front of all our surgical staff." I turn to the group, "Remember what is said in the OR, stays in the OR. Got it?"
A round of "We got it Dr. Robbins" is said throughout the room.
"Good."
Walking out of the scrub room, I'm met with the one person who's been the constant thing on my mind. She's sitting on a gurney. "Good job in there Arizona."
Before I can speak I see Tim give me a stupid grin. He walks around us, "I'm gonna go talk to the parents and tell them they can visit him in the PICU soon."
"Okay. Thanks Tim."
As he walks away, I turned my attention back to Callie. "Thank you, We're you up there the whole time?"
"No, I wanted to be but I had to check on my patient with the transplant. So I came down here when I heard you were finished."
"Well I'm glad you were there, considering I almost broke down in front of you yesterday."
Callie stands up from the gurney and she starts playing with her fingers nervously. "Of course. Well I just wanted to check if you were okay."
"Thank you Calliope. I appreciate that."
Callie takes a step forward, "You really should tell me who told you my name."
Now, I know I'm definitely playing with fire, I lightly brush her hand and lean in tilting my head by her ear, "You really wanna know Calliope?" I whispered.
Callie's eyes is shut tight and I feel her body tense up, "Yes." She says breathlessly.
I take a small step back and our eyes latch on to each other. I slowly run my fingers across the top left side of her white coat. "Your lab coat has your name on it, that's how I found out."
"Mhmm" she says as she slowly leans in and I slowly follow her lead also leaning in. Just then the scrub room door is wipped open.
"Shit," I groaned.
Alex is looking down at the chart "Dr. Robbins, I'm done with Jake's chart. I'll drop it off at Ortho Robbins office and he can finish his part."
"Yeah, thanks Karev." I say trying to hide my disappointment.
"Night, Robbins. Night, Torres."
"Bye Karev."
Callie looks at me and gives me a shy smile, "Well I better be going. I'll see you later?"
"Yeah. You will." I smiled
Callie starts walking away, and I can't help but want to see her one last time before I go home.
"Calliope?"
She turns around and I walk up to her and I move her bangs out of her face and gently kiss her on her cheek, very close to the corner of her lip. "Thank you for being there. Good night." I say walking back to the elevator to meet my brother.
"You talked to the parents?"
"Yes I did. And they wanted to tell you thank you."
"I'll go check on them first thing tomorrow, when I do my rounds."
"Hey Zona, thank you for everything. I mean that. Jake's case was a tough one and I really wanted to save his leg. I know in beginning I gave you a hard time, but thanks for always being there for me regardless."
"I know Jr. I'm gonna head to my office and go home. It's been a day. Love you. ."
"Love you too Zo, good night."
Callie POV
Today's been a hell of a day. I decide to make Yang finish all the charting, which she was more than happy to obliged.
I can't believe Arizona literally almost kissed me. I wish she did. Her lips were right at the corner of my mouth and from what I could feel, her lips were soft. This woman has me feeling like a love sick teenager. I shake my head and I make my way to my office to grab my purse.
"Torres you finished?" Mark asked.
"Yeah I'm gonna pick up Aiden and head home. I'll see you tomorrow Mark."
"Night Torres."
Walking into the daycare, I hear my son calling my name. "Mami, you here. Did you save lives today?"
"Of course I did mijo. You ready to go?" He takes my hand and we walk through the door.
"Can we have pizza for dinner?"
"Of course."
"Then can I have some ice cream?" He asked giving me his innocent smile.
"Baby it's late. You can have some tomorrow."
"Okay Mami."
As we're walking out of the lobby, I stop us for I can look for my apartment keys. While I'm searching I hear Aiden scream, "Zona!! Zona!"
My eyes shoot up and Arizona looks at Aiden and smiles. She walks up to us and kneels down in front of him never once looking at me. "Hey Aiden. How are you doing?"
"I'm good Zona. Just waiting for Mami to find the keys then we can go home. We're having pizza for dinner and ice cream."
"Aiden James." I say
"I mean no ice cream. Mami said it's late and I can have some tomorrow. Sorry mom."
"Well you're having pizza and that's awesome. Pizza is the best."
"You like pizza Zona?"
"Like pizza? I love pizza."
"You should come to our apartment and have some. Right Mami?"
"Bubba, I don't know. I think Arizona has plans."
Aiden looks at Arizona with his big brown eyes, "Zona do you have plans?"
"I don't, but I think your mom already had plans for just the two of you."
"You're our friend Zona, you can come to dinner. Could Zona come for dinner Mami?" He asked with his puppy dog eyes that I can't so no to. Also if I was being honest. I wanted her to join us too.
"Yeah sure, of course Zona can come." I smiled.
Arizona finally looked up at me. "Are you sure Calliope? I don't wanna intrude if you already had plans."
"Don't worry about it. We didn't have plans. The more the merrier right?"
Arizona stands up, "If you say so ... Calliope," she whispered.
"Umm.. yeah.. Umm let's go." I stuttered.
I can hear Arizona chuckling. She knows exactly what she's doing to me. I decide to play along. When Aiden isn't paying attention to us, I look at Arizona and I use my pointer finger silently telling her to come closer. She leans in.
"I know I told Aiden no desert, but if you're lucky, maybe you might have some." I whispered.
I hear Arizona take a deep breath, calming her self down. I back away and wink at her. Arizona just laughs and shake her head.
"Calliope, where are we going? The parking lot is that way."
"Arizona I know where the parking lot is. I live here. She says pointing across the street to the apartment."
"You live across the hospital?"
"Mmhmm."
"Mami, can I hold Zona hand?"
"You have to ask her."
"Zona can I hold your hand?"
"How about I do you one better?" Arizona kneels down. "Hop on my back."
"Really?" He smiles.
"Really, hop on."
Aiden hops on her back and she skips with him all the way to the front door of the apartment complex. I catch up with them. "Mami, we were waiting for you."
"Sorry bubba, I didn't know we were racing." I laughed.
"Trust me, if it was a race, we would still win. Right Aiden?"
"Right, Zona. We would win and Mami would lose."
"Hey no ganging up on me." I say trying to keep a serious face.
"Sorry Mami."
"Yeah I'm sorry too Calliope." Arizona says giving me a wink.
Once we get to our room. Arizona sets Aiden down. I take my phone out and order the pizza. "Mijo go ahead and change." When Aiden leaves the room, I look at Arizona. "You know you shouldn't have gave him that piggy back ride."
"Oh I'm so sorry I should've asked you first. I'm sorry if I overstepped."
I looked at her and laughed . She looks at me with her eyebrows up. "No, it was totally fine. Now he's gonna expect everyone to give him a piggy back ride. Plus you're probably his favorite person now."
"You're probably right, but who can say no to him." A freshly changed toddler comes running out of his room, with a bunch of toys in his arm. "Zona, I want to show you my special toys. I don't show this to anyone."
"Really?" Arizona smiles.
I sit on the couch and watch the two of them interact with each other. I've never seen Aiden so opened with another adult he just met. It usually takes a while for him to warm up to anyone. Just then I see him hand Arizona his captain America action figure. "I'll be back Zona, I'm gonna go grab his shield."
"Okay, buddy I'll be right here."
"You must be special. He never shares his captain America with anyone. Not even me."
"Well I'm awesome Calliope and children. They love me. It's not a coincidence I'm in Peds."
"Right, hey Arizona. You think after Aiden goes to sleep we could talk?"
"Sure of course." Arizona says smiling back at me.
Just then the door bell rings and it's the pizza guy. I set the table and we all gather around and dig in. Of course the whole time Aiden wanted to talk to Arizona. I could tell that Arizona was genuinely interested in everything Aiden was telling her.
After we finished eating. I could tell Aiden was tired. "Hey bubba, I think it's time for bed."
"Okay Mami, I'm tired. You don't need to read to me tonight, but can Zona tuck me in?" Arizona looked at me silently asking if it was okay. I nod back letting her know it was fine. After he brushes his teeth he hops into bed, and I stand at the doorframe watching Aiden, and once Arizona tucks him in, his eye rolls back and he's fast asleep. I kiss his forehead and follow Arizona out the door.
"Wow that was fast." She says, taking a seat on the couch.
Taking the seat across of her, giving us some distance. "Yeah I think you tired him out."
Arizona POV
When Callie said she wanted to talk, I had an idea what she wanted to talk about. Honestly at first I wanted to ignore it, but she was right. It was time to talk. So here we are sitting across of each other on her apartment, and it's both quiet.
"So.."
"Yeah.."
I look up at her and take a moment to compose myself. "Okay, I'm not good at this. So I'm just gonna come out and say it..."
