Somewhere just outside of the civilization of Atlas, there was a lonely bunker hidden in the tundra. Deep inside, the interior was mostly lit up with red lights. This was the Red Room, a rogue group of military personnel specializing in crafting the perfect soldiers and spies. And on this day, they would have their masterpiece.

Natasha Romanoff was a woman with no past according to the people in charge of the Red Room. She was raised as a baby and trained under harsher conditions than most of the official soldiers of Atlas. She had red hair, and she mostly trained in a black uniform with a red hourglass symbol on her belt.

Though she became 14 years old, Natasha was at the top of her class, which made her the perfect candidate for their latest experiment: a special surgery that they've been awaiting the perfect soldier for. She was brought over to the surgery room where she was being operated on for hours. When they were done, she was brought to her room with her partner, Yelena Belova.

Natasha waited to recover until she got the word. She removed her bandages and Yelena got a good look at what was changed.

"That is bizarre." Yelena said. "And they really believe this can make you stronger?"

"Not sure." Natasha replied. "But they wouldn't have done this without a good reason. At least I can see."

"I don't know, Natasha." Yelena said. "I mean, doesn't this process of yours seem a bit… ghoulish. Where did they even get those?"

"They wouldn't say."

The door opened up. Both girls stood up straight in the presence of their supervisor, a woman named Madame B.

"It's time for the test." she said.

Both Natasha and Yelena stood in the middle of a large room with crates and pillars around them. They looked up at the glass window where their superiors watched from above. The intercom buzzed and Madame B's voice was heard.

"For this test, you will be facing against two Grimm. You have been given weapons to hinder them, but they are not to be killed by them. Agent Romanoff, this is to test your new enhancements. Neither you nor Yelena will leave until you use them. Remember to focus."

As unsure as Natasha was that this will work, she nodded obediently and took a fighting stance with her partner. The steel door at the far side of the room slowly opened. And from the other side, two tiger-like Grimm called Sabres crept out growling at the two girls. They roared and charged right at them.

Once the Sabres were close enough, both Natasha and Yelena leaped over them and fired their weapons from behind. Yelena had a pair of handheld pistols while Natasha wore yellow bracelets that fired yellow blasts that disoriented each Grimm. Each girl dealt with a different Sabre.

The whole time while evading and countering her Grimm's attacks, Natasha attempted to use her new abilities. She focused like her bosses said, but there was no reaction. She then focused on trying to keep a distance.

Yelena was having a harder time. She only had her standard weapons which couldn't destroy the Grimm by themselves. She figured she could stay alive until Natasha killed her Grimm and helped her. Her hopes were dashed as soon as soon as the Sabre grabbed her leg with its teeth and threw her to the wall. It severely damaged her aura.

"Yelena!" Natasha shouted in worry. That momentary distraction was enough for her Sabre to strike at her with its claws.

Both Grimm proceeded to stomp on each girl with their paws. It was only a matter of time before both of their auras broke. Natasha groaned with the Grimm above her. But instead, all she saw was the other Sabre raising its teeth to finish Yelena off. Natasha was scared for what the monster was about to do to her friend. And the worst part was that she knew her superiors wouldn't care.

"YELENAAAAAA!" Natasha shouted. Out of worry for her friend, she widened her eyes… her silver eyes.

All of a sudden, a bright blast of light shot out of Natasha's eyes brightening the entire room. The people observing had to advert their eyes from the blinding flash. After a minute, the light dimmed and they all returned to view the experiment. Much to everyone's surprise, including Natasha's, the Grimm were vanquished literally becoming dust in the wind.

Yelena raised herself up to see what happened. "Natasha… What happened?"

Natasha was speechless for a moment. She then decided to answer, but before she could, a burning sensation was felt. She covered her eyes as she felt a pain from inside of her sockets. Yelena quickly rushed to check on her. The Red Room agents continued watching taking notes on what just happened.

"You feeling all right now?" Yelena asked her friend as they were back in their room.

"Better than an hour ago, obviously." Natasha said.

"Natasha… That thing you did was unbelievable. What was that?"

"I've heard the scientists talk about silver eyes. They said that they possess a great power that doesn't even come from a Semblance."

"How?"

"I don't know. But what I do know is whoever has eyes like these can destroy any Grimm with just a look."

"That's incredible… but disturbing at the same time." Yelena said. "How were they able to create silver eyes?"

"I don't know." Natasha said. "But whatever this is, it seemed to have hurt me when I used them. I'm going to get answers. Just stay here and cover for me."

Yelena nodded as Natasha opened the door and walked out.

Natasha sneaked down each hallway for the next five minutes. Whenever she would come across a guard, she would narrowly avoid their sight. Whenever she needed, she would use her Semblance: invisibility. She made herself completely unseen by everyone else.

Natasha found who she was looking for. She stayed close to a doctor who was discussing with Madame B.

"At least the surgery was a success." The doctor said.

"A success?" Madame B asked. "Agent Romanoff seems to have felt a burning pain from her eyes! Now, I call that far from a success!"

"This kind of process has never been done before." The doctor said. "There are bound to be side effects, especially after we took them from their original owner."

Still invisible, Natasha's silver eyes widened. She nearly lost her breath in hearing the truth about her eyes.

"Can it be handled?" B asked.

"Probably. I'm just taking an educated guess, but theoretically, this should be an acquired feeling. After a dozen or so attempts, Agent Romanoff should be used to it. In the meantime, I think you'll be pleased to hear what I've learned."

"Go on."

"Well, from what we've known so far, the silver eyes can only work around Grimm. But considering that Agent Romanoff was only able to use hers when her partner was in danger, I think that saving her is another trigger."

"So Grimm and friends in danger activate her eyes." Madame B said stroking her chin. "Very well. We'll use this to learn more about controlling those with silver eyes. We will keep putting Agent Romanoff and Agent Belova in Grimm situations, but put the latter in more danger than her partner. If we put Agent Belova's life in extreme peril, we'll be able to learn more about silver eyes."

Natasha could barely breathe. She couldn't believe what she just heard. She had to save her friend.

After warning Yelena of the Red Room's plans, she and Natasha began plotting to escape. With Yelena close, Natasha could extend her invisibility to her. They stayed together getting through the cameras and security guards.

After a while, Natasha and Yelena could see the front door. Feeling hopeful, Natasha dropped the cloaking and she and Yelena made a break for the door. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed when a squad of agents jumped in front of them and grabbed the girls by their arms. Madame B emerged with a displeased scowl on her face.

"Agents, this is a most disappointing night." she said. "And we raised you better than that."

"Raised us?" Yelena asked furiously. "You're turning us into weapons, expendable weapons! You were going to throw me into the Grimm's den!"

"The Grimm are the problem to begin with." B said. "But now, we're ending this. But first, an example must be made." She pulled out her gun and aimed it at Yelena.

"No!" Natasha pleaded. "Don't do it!"

BANG!

The bullet hit Yelena in the stomach and she dropped down in response. Natasha left her mouth open disbelieving what she just saw. "No."

"Clean it up." Madame B ordered. "We'll find someone else to help push Agent Romanoff. She'll be our ultimate weapon against the Grimm."

Natasha felt like she was about to throw up. She wanted to hope it was all a bad dream, that it wasn't real. Nevertheless, it was.

CLICK!

Everyone stopped when they heard the strange noise coming from the front door. Natasha snapped out of her grief to share in everyone's curiosity. The metal door slowly opened and a man stepped in. It was a dark-skinned man with a few scars on his face. He pulled out one of the two swords he had sheathed on his back and quickly thrusted it forward. It caught Madame B by surprise when it dug into her chest and pushed her down.

"GET HIM!" a soldier commanded.

All the soldiers raised their guns and fired. However, the strange man's very skin changed into metal. The bullets bounced off of him and he ran forward. One by one, he took down all the guards. Some he killed, and some, he simply knocked out.

When he was done, the man changed his skin back to normal and looked at Natasha, who was covering Yelena's bleeding body. He frowned and approached.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner." He said. "I've been looking for this place for weeks."

Natasha looked up at her rescuer. "You're… a Huntsman, aren't you?"

"Yeah. I was sent to find and bring down the legendary Red Room. I didn't think I'd find kids here, though. Let me see." He gently pushed Natasha away and checked on Yelena's body. "Well, good news. She's alive, but she needs medical care as soon as possible. Come on." He scooped up Yelena's body and carried her outside. Natasha followed.

"Do you think you can help us?" Natasha asked.

"Well, I've already got an apprentice in Atlas, and I don't think I have room for you." The Huntsman said. "Here's what I can do, though. I'll bring you to my boss. He's in the military, but I'm sure he'll help you and your friend; maybe even give her the treatment she needs. What do you say?"

Natasha smiled and nodded.

Years later, the more mature Natasha Romanoff awoke from that flashback. She then remembered that Yelena was currently asleep and has yet to wake up. She sighed before she put on her green contact lenses and returned to meet up with her boss, General Ironwood.

Author's Note: I originally planned on releasing this on the same day as the Black Widow movie would be released, but I remembered how far off that was and I didn't want to wait two weeks. Still, this chapter is in celebration of that movie.

Just so you know, the Huntsman who saved Natasha and Yelena is Rhodes, the same Huntsman who trained young Cinder.

Any and all comments are welcome.
