Harry Potter and the SCP Foundation

Chapter 4 - Interview or interrogation?

The moment this interview started Harry expected the first words spoken to be of introductions, with names being passed around, an exchange of phone numbers and a friendly handshake to show cooperation. What he did not expect was for some scientist to refer to him with designation similar to that statue he had an altercation with.

He expected that these people, this SCP Foundation would have had the decency to mention him by his real name. The only conclusion he could come up with was that they just did not know his real name, which meant that they were possibly as in the dark about this situation as he was; the situation being on how he got here and somehow still had enough credentials on him for there be a D-Class classification for him the moment he left the cell all that time ago.

"SCP-6934, can you hear me?"

Harry then came back to the real world from his thoughts only now paying attention. "Sorry, could you repeat yourself?" He asked. He must of been in real deep thought to have not heard the scientist, this Doctor Rallim, speak to him.

"Do you have a name?" The scientist repeated. "I would like to call you something other than SCP-6913." He was smiling when he said that, and so was Harry in response.

The scientist was digging for information, being friendly and forthcoming so as to appear approachable. Typical psychology trick. Harry wondered if he should give him his name. It would be nicer than being a number to these people but at the same time... names held power Harry knew. But Harry felt no danger or anything to indicate he was dealing with another wizard. And it was nice that someone was willing to use names and not designation classifications. To Harry, there was just something... wrong with that.

It did not take him long to decide. "Harry... I mean my name is Harry." He replied, his eyes never leaving the scientist who smiled and nodded while observing the instruments and taking down notes. One of the instruments was for measuring one vitals he recalled; heart rate he recalls. And like the male scientist, the female companion next to him was also writing down notes also, but on what he did not have the foggiest. But this was not what drew his attention with her.

Unlike her male colleague Harry noticed that she was far more reserved, quiet like; it was as if she was not sure what she should do at this moment like she had a question she wanted to ask but did not know how to go about asking it. This was the feeling Harry got from her as he stared into her eyes, the very eyes that had become locked with his and in the act he learned something as he discreetly delved into her mind. He would thank Dumbledore if he could; and Snape for that trick. A simple twinkle in his eye is all it took.

Time seemed to slow to crawl as Harry searched the woman's thoughts. He did not delve into any personal recesses of her conciseness or moments; oh no, his need was on something far more necessary than someone's history. What Harry was looking for was directions, ordinary directions if he wanted his plan to succeed should things go bad very quickly.

"So Harry." The doctor continued. "How are you feeling?"

Harry stopped looking at the woman. "About what?" He asked. He could have been sarcastic or belligerent with his response but instead settled for civil. The scientist just smiled, the same annoying smile.

"Are you in any discomfort, hungry... do you need to use the lavatory that kind of thing." Harry just blinked, again and once more for measure. "It's standard during these kind of interviews to see if there is anything the subject needs to make it tolerable."

"Interview?" Harry questioned but the accusation was there for all the hear. "It seems more like an interrogation to me." He was not technically wrong and anyone with half a brain would agree. "Besides, is standard procedure for a interview to have an armed guard?"

Doctor Rallim continued to smile and even laugh slightly at that, it sounded almost agreeable. "Would you be more comfortable if we asked him to leave the room?" He asked, to which his female looked to her smiling colleague almost with panic in her eyes. Even Harry was slightly bewildered; if his facial features were anything to go by. "We want to make this interview as productive as possible."

Harry looked at the doctor, analyzing his words and his emotions for deceit. He could just use his legilimency to get the measure of this man however he did not want to tip off any red flags so soon. He then looked at the guard who did not seem in any way disturbed by this conversation. If he had to guess, he was a yes man and was only here out of necessity.

Harry just nodded and the doctor told the guard to wait outside and he did so without question.

"Now then, let us start." Doctor Rallim cheerfully said and he was still smiling. "Harry, do you know why you are here?" Was his first question; first read question.

Harry looked towards the camera recording him. "I guess I'm here to be asked about what happened with that statue thing." He said calmly and watched the scientist write something down. "I assume you also want to know about me." The doctor looked up towards him. "Who I am, how I am here and on... other things."

Doctor Rallim nodded, on which one no one could really know. "You scared quite a few people. Had I not been there we'd not be having this talk I'd say."

Harry's lips slightly lifted into a smile. "Your right about that. I got the impression that those soldiers wanted nothing more than to shoot me, even though I saved their lives."

"And the two D-Classes, don't forget them." Doctor Rallim reminded. "Scared as they were, they said that you helped them leave the room." The last part he said with almost pointed gesture as if he was trying to say something obvious.

"I'm just grateful that they are safe; though I do believe I won't be invited to join them for meals anytime soon." Harry replied with an almost solemn expression. "I thought you had questions you wanted to ask me?"

The doctor nodded, causing him to sigh as he got ready to proceed with the interview. "A lot of people are curious about you Harry." He started off. "Up till now you were just another D-Class; an expendable volunteers for the tests we do here," He said, before pulling out a remote and pressing a button on it. "that was before we saw this." He then gestured towards the monitor where a film began to play.

What was playing was footage the holding cell where SCP-173 was held. At the start the statue was on its own leaning against the wall until the introduction of two D-Classes and Harry showed up. It showed how Harry drew the short straw for cleanup duty and went around removing all the filth, grime... and blood from the surfaces. It showed how Harry avoided the statue and focused on area further away; showing his general lack keenness to be near it which no one could blame him for. It all appeared normal, then the part where Harry had to go towards area around SCP-173 to clean began and where Harry appeared to be in trance as he approached it more closely.

Doctor Rallim paused the tape. "You can see from this angle that for whatever reason you moved in closer." He explained as he pulled out a file and began reading from it. "This report we received is a transcript from the guard on duty during the incident where he stated that attempts were made to get your attention and how you seemed to be ignoring all warnings." He pressed play to continue the recording which showed Harry getting so close to SCP-173 that it appeared that he was staring into its eyes and then moments later the recording became static, as if something had interfered with the feed. Rallim looked back at Harry when this happened. "When the surveillance feed was lost we were told later on that it was some form of electrical interference. "

Harry eyes never left the screen after the camera frizzed out. He knows that the doctor wants answers to what is considered a mystery at this moment but what could he tell him; that it may be fault in the camera which coincidently occurred when shit hit the fan or does he tell him the truth, that it was magic that messed with the surveillance. But even then he was not so sure if he was responsible. Yes he was a factor but not the reason behind the short out.

"There was another piece of information we got from the other occupants." Rallim spoke which got Harry's attention. "When the camera disabled they mentioned also that you spoke to it just before the feed was lost..." He picks reads through the same report, searching for something . "... here it is."He looked back at Harry. "You spoke the word 'legilimens' to SCP-173."

The electrocardiogram machine's needle started to flutter which indicated to the two scientists that they may have hit on something; that Harry was nervous.

Rallim continued on; he was close to something he was sure of it. "We asked our linguistic experts to look up the word and what they told us is that the etymology the word is based off a Latin dialect in origin, that it is derived from the word 'legere'." He looked to see if Harry had anything to say about this. all he got was a confused expression. "It means to read, and men's, and mind basically". Harry looked like he understood now. "To read someone's mind in other words if I am not mistaken."

A moment passed between them. Harry looked at the Doctor Rallim, and looked... and looked some more. Deadpan did not fully illustrate this, what Harry appeared to be feeling or thinking but it was like Harry was pointing out how stupid it sounded. Rallim returned this sentiment but from the opposite spectrum it appeared.

An impasse had formed.

Despite all of the trivia, this one-sided exchange was starting to become repetitive to all in the room. Questions could only get you so far but not when the person being asked questions added nothing that could shed some light on the matter at hand.

Doctor Rallim sighed in indignation as he continued, losing his smile for first time also. "It's a shame you know." He spoke lightly but with a hint bait in his voice. "The camera being off means we cannot fully understand what happened in the SCP-173 cell. Which means we cannot explain how you are still alive when you should be in a morgue somewhere with a broken neck and a toe tag."

That made Harry look uncomfortable and the doctors both noticed this shift in his character. Whether Harry knew or not, everything that he did was being noted; his reactions, responses or lack of them, and his vitals. No stone was unturned here. The trick was not focusing on the obvious tells in a person but to make tells present themselves and sometimes, this meant making the subject very uncomfortable.

"However, there is something that could shed some light on this mystery." Doctor Rallim said and then proceeded to go through his files looking for something. When he found what he was looking for he presented it to Harry. It was a memory stick. "You see this here? In it is another video file taken from one of our more... discreet cameras in SCP-173 cell." He then proceeded to connect the device to the monitor. "I don't know how much you know about cameras Harry but tell me you have ever heard of a 'phantom High-Speed camera'?"

Harry for the first time in a while since this interview started responded. "No, my knowledge on camera tech is not good I'm afraid." It was an honest answer.

"I'm just like you in that regard Harry, I know how to use them probably but when it comes to model types I am just as clueless." The smile returned on Rallim. "But the kind of camera I mentioned is special you see." He had finished setting up the device. "Unlike other cameras on the market a phantom High-Speed camera is considered one the fastest camera on the market because it can record videos at over 25,000 frames per second at its full one megapixel resolution, and up to one million frames per second at a reduced resolution of 256 x 32 pixels." He explained in a matter of fact way. Harry did not look at all impressed by the trivia. "It can record a bullet being shot in super slow-motion is what I basically getting at. And we have one placed with the cell of SCP-173."

Harry looked to be a little confused when he that was mentioned. He only knew of one camera in the room so where was the other one was on his mind. "You said that all surveillance was fried within the room?" He questioned, slightly curious and if one could see a little nervous.

"Your right about that... but the camera that made this recording is only active when all other surveillance devices fail." Doctor Rallim got ready to press play. "It's used only when no one is watching SCP-173." He pressed play, starting the video.

The scene shown was just after the first camera failed. Harry was shown to be next to the SCP-173 in the trance state from before. The two D-Classes were standing in their same positions keeping their eyes on the statue, lost on what they should do.

"As you can see things are the same as before." Reminded Doctor Rallim but got no response from Harry who just continued watching.

The blast door to the cell opened and the security guard came waltzing in, his gun out and shouting something out while pointing at Harry. The guard then pointed at one of the D-Classes and looked to have ordered him to go towards Harry and SCP-173. The guard then pressed something on his hand and the blast door began to descend back down, the intention being to close everyone in. One of the D-Classes approached Harry and it at that moment something happened.

"Now here is where things get interesting." Rallim added.

The blast door stopped closing suddenly and this drew the attention of the guard who tried pressing whatever button he used before but to no avail. The D-Class started looking worried and were just as confused. Suddenly the lights in the cell turned off and it was in that second that things escalated.

SCP-173 had moved from its position towards one of the D-Class personnel, intending to kill him likely but there was something even more interesting. Standing in front of SCP-173's target was Harry; with his eyes staring at it. The lights flickered again and same thing happened but from different positions. Every time SCP-173 tried to wrap its arms around its target it could not get close enough because Harry was in its path; stopping it in its tracks. But what made this situation interesting was it appeared that SCP-173 and Harry were disappearing and reappearing around the D-Class. The video was paused suddenly by Doctor Rallim.

"Now here is where things get really interesting." He said but this time there was clear excitement in his voice.

The video continued and Harry continued deterring the statue at every turn. At one point it appeared that Harry said something to other three occupants. Again the light flickered, and then it was only SCP-173 and Harry in the cell. Harry then did something with his hand where he waved up with an open palm and then brought it down hard when towards something behind his back.

"If you must know, the time stamp from when you did the wave with your hand happened at the same time when the blast door closed." Doctor Rallim said. "The guard said it looked like something forced it shut." He gave Harry a look when he mentioned that and still Harry did not respond. "Heads up, this part may be an eye-opener to you because this where the cameras true function comes on."

What happens next on the video could only be described as astonishing. Doctor Rallim could only smile harder, smiling at the scene playing for the Harry and at his female colleagues who are now both sporting facial expression of shock and wide eyes. The moment the recording showed was just Harry and SCP-173 in the room but where things got fast really fast, and the camera slowed the fastness down to a turtles speed.

A fight had broken out between Harry and SCP-173, one which showed all who viewed it how truly spectacular both were as they appeared to being moving faster then what was physically possible... for humans.

When the lights flickered SCP-173 would use that moment of distraction to move towards its target, Harry specifically, because for that half a second it was not beings observed, and when it is not being watched it could move faster than the eye can see. This was its method, its way in which it stalks and kills its prey. The phantom camera had captured it movements perfectly. It was comparable to watching the motion of lightning bolt but slowly as it moved from its point of origin towards where it landed. But SCP-173 never got the chance snap Harry's neck because every time it attacked Harry vanished from the spot and reappeared instantly on another part of the room. It looked like Harry was being sucked into a single point every time he vanished and reappeared, like a black hole. The state of the cell as a result was understandable now.

And this was how their dance of death played out, where every moment of every second was on the razors edge.

For the next half hour the footage showed a battle between two SCP's. One that uses speed and another which appears to be teleporting to avoid the more dangerous adversary. But one of them had more tricks up their sleeve it seemed, for there were moments where Harry used hand gestures and appeared to be shouting something and the result was a flash of light coming out of his hands which in turn showed a funny image in slow motion of SCP-173 being thrown around the room like a rag doll. One could not help but laugh, especially when said blast sent Harry into a wall where parts of the ceiling cracked off and buried him. Slapstick comedy was the key word here.

Eventually the recording reached the end where SCP-173 moved towards the blast door and lifted it, as if it was trying to escape... or runaway... one could not be sure. It did not get very far as Harry got back up and did the same hand gesture thing and looked to have pulled SCP-173 back into the room before using another hand gesture where a light show shot towards it that stopped it in its tracks.

Silence filled the room. No one said a word. Both scientists were waiting. Harry looked at them both. It was the longest uncomfortable silence one could ever imagine. Harry took a deep breath as he looked right into Doctor Rallim's eyes.

"What do you want to know?"
