PROMPT 5: NIGHTMARES written by Malauu-Ladynoir
SANDBOY 2.0
It was an akumatized they'd already faced. The last time they fought him, they were both hit and survived their respective nightmares. There was nothing to worry about. There was no reason for this fight to be different. Obviously, the Akuma was lodged in the same place, in sandboy's pillow. This confrontation would be child's play.
'The Sandboy just checked in! Now nightmares can begin!'
He heard his partner grumbling beside him: the plan she'd drawn up with her Lucky Charm hadn't worked, and now her Miraculous was biping to remind her that she was running out of time.
"Avoid being hit while I'm away, Chaton! I really don't want to face again an evil double of myself," groaned Ladybug, while quickly getting away from the fight.
"I don't want it either," he breathed for himself, dodging a shot of magic powder.
Chat Noir unfurled his stick, using it as a pole to climb up a roof. He hadn't seen the direction his Lady had taken to hide herself and feed her kwami but he wanted to be able to give her the time, and especially, the space to do so. So he started jumping from roof to roof, getting Sandboy as far away as possible from where he and Ladybug were previously.
He slightly distanced the Akuma victim before being stopped in his race by a sharp and... familiar cry. Then he realized that the super-villain was no longer following him. He turned around and hurried to the source of the scream that had caught his attention.
When he approached his destination and his eyes found the provenance of the cries, he felt his heart miss several beats and his legs wobble.
"Marinette..." he whispered, gasping for breath, while speeding up the pace to join her.
He let himself fall softly to the ground, staring at the horrible scene playing out in front of him. Marinette was in an alley, trapped between a wall and a large white figure.
At full speed, he went down the alley before dismaying himself that Marinette's assailant was none other than a teenager in a feline suit, like him. The latter wore a suit similar to his but white and not black. He'd a belt that served as his tail, two cat ears at the top of his skull, and the same baton resting at the bottom of his back.
The feline dressed in white seemed to notify his presence, because he suddenly turned to him, a bad smile stretching his pale lips.
Chat Noir crossed the icy eyes of the cat-boy and then felt goosebumps running on all his body. His instinct was screaming to him to escape, but his heart and his reason were pushing him to stay there and fight against his intuition. He'd to help Marinette, no matter what. And he'd to do it fast before Sandboy joined the party, too.
"Marinette, are you all right?" he asked, worried about the horrified expression he could read on the girl's face.
She didn't answer him, but the white feline turned to her, pressing her a little harder against the wall.
"Is it for him that you abandoned me? Is that for him that you broke my heart, Marinette?" he asked, looking mad and angry. "The simple truth is that I love you but you… you don't love me anymore…"
Chat Noir's eyes-widened at the implications of Marinette's nightmare. His heart was beating wildly in his chest, as if trying to break through his rib cage.
Did Marinette really love him to the point of having such dark nightmares?
"Leave her alone! Marinette, it's just a nightmare, everything will be fine, I promise you," declared Chat Noir.
"I'm much more than a nightmare. I'm the end of the world," announced Chat Blanc. "If I can't have you. He won't have you either. So I might as well destroy you, me, our memories... Everything!" he shouted, furious.
His white gloved hand suddenly loaded some destructive energy, under the tetanized gaze of Marinette and Chat Noir.
But why was Ladybug taking so long to come back? He hoped wholeheartedly that she hadn't been touched and was now facing her nightmare alone.
"You won't have Marinette. Not while there's a breath left in my body!" shouted the black dressed hero, pulling out his stick and putting himself in a fighting position.
"It will be easy," sniggered Chat Blanc, by directing his hand loaded with his powerful cataclysm towards Chat Noir.
"No!" screamed Marinette, throwing herself between the two felines. "Chat Noir! It's my nightmare. I have to face it!"
The girl turned and faced Chat Blanc. For a moment, the other hero was admirative of her determination and courage before feeling panic invaded him again.
She approached dangerously the evil feline and its destructive power, slowly laying her hands on his torso.
Chat Noir's breath accelerated and his pupils dilated, darkening the green of his irises until the color was almost no longer visible. All the muscles in his body were bandaged and he was ready to jump at the slightest sudden movement of his enemy.
He saw Marinette raising on her tiptoe, slowly approaching her face from Chat Blanc's. Then, with a quick and precise gesture, she pulled out his bell before stepping back away from him.
"Don't do it!" protested Chat Blanc, stretching his arm towards her.
"I do it because I love you! I'll never let you become... him. I won't ever let that happen!" Marinette answered, while throwing the bell on the ground and crushing it under her foot.
Instantly, the nightmare dissipated in a white blur until it disappeared completely, leaving behind, just a very bad memory, as well as a multitude of questions in Chat Noir's mind.
He was about to speak, to verbalize his questions and confess his fears, when duty called him to order. The Sandboy had caught up with him and was now only a few meters away from them. And there were still no signs of Ladybug...
Hawkmoth's victim rushed towards them and instinctively, Chat Noir threw himself at Marinette, making her fall on the ground and completely covering her body.
'The Sandboy just checked in! Now nightmares can begin!'
"Chat Noir..." he heard, from a female voice resonating not far from him.
Then he saw a very familiar figure enter the alley.
"I'm in love with a boy and his name is Luka... I'll marry him and we'll have three children... and a hamster that we'll call Noir…"
He stood up suddenly, then put one arm under Marinette's knees and the other one in her back, lifting her bridal style. He then stretched out his baton and propelled himself on a roof with the girl keeping safe against him.
"What the... was it me?! Why me?! I thought your nightmare was Ladybug blowing you to pieces and making cat food with you!"
"It was! Until... Wait, Marinette, how do you know that?" he asked, while continuing to jump from roof to roof to keep them away from the super-villain.
He finally stopped, realizing that the doubts and suspicions he'd had because his partner wasn't reappearing, were fully justified. Because Ladybug was just in his arms.
Slowly, he dropped Marinette, Ladybug, on the ground. "M'Lady, would you mind transforming and giving me some help? Before our nightmares finally reveal our identities to all Paris and Hawkmoth…" he asked, a little bit annoyed.
"I... uh... I'm...uh…" she suddenly started stuttering.
What? Was she still trying to find an excuse after that? Really?
"Oh come on Marinette. It's been almost thirty minutes since Ladybug - you - had left the fight to feed her kwami… It's ten times more than usual…" he explained, pouting." Besides, I trust her, she would never leave me fighting alone… the only reason for her to do that it's that she can't transform...Until now," he added, giving her a stern and intense look.
"Fine you're right! I'm sorry, Chaton! Tikki hadn't finished eating her macaron when the magic sand fell on me. I didn't see it coming! Then, just as I was about to transform, Chat Blanc jumped on me. Then you arrived too. I couldn't transform myself after that! And now you know that I'm in love with you but that I'm afraid of what could possibly happen, hypothetically Chat Blanc, if I came to confess to you what I feel. AND NOW you know that I AM Ladybug," she finished spitting her words quickly like a torrent of lava gushing out of an erupting volcano, before finally taking a long and deep breath.
"You are Ladybug and you love me..." breathed softly, Chat Noir.
"That's all you learned from my explanations, you, stupid cat!?"
"Absolutely and affirmatively the only thing that YOUR stupid cat had kept in mind!" he answered, a smirk stretching his lips.
"If I were you, I wouldn't be so smooth, Minou. It seems that you also have things to explain to me from what I saw just before," she replied, nonchalantly making her partner's bell rang with her finger.
Chat Noir blushed to the roots of his hair, thinking back to his own nightmare and the feelings he felt for Marinette. Feelings that had strongly intensified over the last few months.
"We have many things to say to each other, but not now... First of all, we must purify this akuma!" she declared then rose herself on tiptoe to leave a quick kiss on the boy's lips.
When she pulled back, Chat Noir blinked several times, completely surprised.
"What was that?" he asked, dazed.
"A promise, mon Chaton," Marinette said sincerely.
The promise that there would be many more kisses. The promise that there would soon be no more secrets between them. The promise that they would give themselves a chance to finally be happy together.
But first, they'd a fight to deal with. The explanations, the hugs and the kisses, were unfortunately going to have to wait a little longer…
