He stood motionless. Trying to gather his next words. If by what she said was true, then the witch could still reside within him. His next words must be carefully picked because he knew the devastating consequences of what the truth will bring.

Subaru: ...I…

He held his chest as tight as he could in anticipation of what came next, but he became hesitant, his throat clogs up and was unable to speak. Shocked and paralyzed. That vivid memory of the silver haired half elf laying lifeless in his arms. He didn't want to go through it again with this girl as well. His vision becomes blurry.

He coughs in his mouth almost hysterically to the point he needs to turn away and cough in his hand.

Rem: Subaru-kun…!

Subaru: it's ok...I'm fine…

He was a bit thankful because it bought him a few seconds of time, but it still grew painful to think in his mind.

She grew more worried. His obvious hesitancy proves this. She grabs his arm and holds his hand. In response, he focuses his attention to her beautiful sapphire eyes.

Rem: ...It's fine. If it pains you to speak to Rem, it's understandable…

She looks back down to their joined hands as dispirited as ever. Instead, he grips her hand as her other holds the back of his palm. She looks back up at him in response.

Subaru: It's not that I don't trust you, Rem. It's…

Rem: ...It's what?

He knew he walked himself into this, but he couldn't deny her sad, worrisome look. It does pain him to ever see her so casted down so easily and couldn't let it slide.

...but what does he do now? He scratches the back of his head trying to think of a solution.

Subaru: ...It's…that...

Rem: …

Usually, he always knew what to say and she knew this fact. Her hero thought of any possible reason to lift anyone's spirits, but this wasn't it.

However, she thought of her own theory to possibly help? She didn't like to see him so lost for words. Especially if it causes him stress.

Rem: ...It's because of her, Subaru-kun was able to come to our world...isn't it?

She theorizes, but this was the only reason she could think of. The only one who was even capable of world transfers would have to be the witch.

Any agitation he had was swept aside and was fully relieved, but he himself still didn't know. At Least this was easier to formulate. He slowly let out a sigh.

Subaru: Honestly, I'm not too sure, but it is possible.

This was true. He had no idea if it was the witch, Satella, who sent him there in the first place, but in this case, it is very likely. They both knew the stories to her overwhelming power and based on Rem's ability to smell the miasma, she was currently taking a hold of Subaru. Not too sure of that power given to him, but her smell proves otherwise.

Rem: So it is because of the witch, you were able to come to Rem's world, Yes?

Subaru: yeah, I hate to admit it, but thanks to her, I was able to meet all of you.

This was the only reason he could ever show appreciation to Envy. Other than that, he could never forgive the fact she murdered Emilia and caused so much pain thanks to this "power". He doesn't want to think of return by death as his unique ability.

Softly, her expression was lifted, but it slowly changed to that of concern.

Rem: So if that's the case, would it be the reason we were sent here?

Subaru: I'm not too sure of that. Last thing I remember was…

Thinking back, he remembers being swallowed by the white whale's fog. The ability that erases anything from existence.

Subaru: ...the white whale…, but that can't be it…

Rem: What do you mean?

The fog cannot be its sole reasoning for this world transfer. Based on Wilhelm's description of the white whale, it had been around for four hundred years. If it had been "transporting" other victims, magic would've been eventually introduced in his world. Well there is magic as an idea, but most he has seen on television were mere illusionists. Not actual magic like he has witnessed. It made sense, but why was he sent back?...and with this adorable little oni?

Subaru: The whale's fog only erases people from reality. If we were eaten by that fog, we shouldn't be standing here now.

Rem: How do you know it has such an ability?

Subaru: Well, for some reason, I can still remember the victims from that fog.

He thought back in that loop when Rem sacrificed herself to allow him to live. If it were the case, she would've been transported rather than erased. yet, nobody knew she existed. Not even her sister. What if he was forgotten by them when he was sent here? He immediately snapped out of that thought.

She puts a finger to her lip in thought. If what he was saying was true, then how in fact were they both sent here. Maybe it still had to do with the witch. For Rem, it would be better to think how it started.

Rem: I see...How was it like when Subaru-kun was sent to Rem's world?

Subaru: ...Lets see…

There was not much to remember. He left his house late at night after his mother told him goodbye. He was too out of thought to reply back and walked a couple miles to the nearby convenience store. There, he checked the manga and light novels section and bought a cup of noodles and a bag of chips.

Subaru: ...I bought a couple of snacks and when I rubbed my eyes…

Rem: Do you mean those Potata chips?

He chuckles a bit from her cute little response and corrects her. She was still clueless from his sudden, yet cute laughter of his.

Rem: Has Rem said something wrong?

Subaru: No no. It's just, those are called po~at~to….

It hit him. Slowly, but surely enough, he knew the answer to why she was here with him and not anyone else. Since he had his phone and snacks with him, it took those belongings with him as well. Including his clothes and whatever he was holding. If that's true, then…

Rem: …! S-Subaru-kun! What's the matter?!

Instinctively, he hunched downward to hold her small petite body in his arms and rested his head over her shoulders. As tight as he could ever. Almost squeezing her small body with the smell of her floral scent of her blue hair. Just by his smell and warmth comforted her, but this was not intimate as she thought. It surprised her, but soon, she realized he was trembling while in his grip. Very faintly, she heard the soft cries of relief.

Subaru: ...Don't ever leave my side again...Rem…

He came to the realization when he was eaten by that fog, he was holding her in his warmth that time then, he was immediately sent to his world and was unconscious beside her. That's when the police spotted them at the spot he was left.

In this moment, he was completely grateful that he was in that position to be able to bring her here with him. It was because of this girl he is still able to move forward with his life. Never again will he leave her behind.

She pats his back tenderly and affectionately. Immersed in his self relief.

Rem: There is no need to worry, Subaru-kun. Rem will always be by your side.

He sniffles. Slowly he pulled away and gazed over her adorable facial features from her short, blue bangs that covered her right sea sparkling eye, to her soft pink lips. She made the most precious smile as they held each other in their soft warmth. Never wanting to be separated.

Naoko: Rem, sweetheart.

Their focus grew away from each other and stared at the open doorway. No one else was present, but it was time they separated. Instead of Rem responding, was Subaru.

Subaru: What is it, mom?

Naoko: Subaru, can you tell Rem it's time to leave?

Both by surprise, they blinked twice.

Subaru: Leaving? Where to?

Naoko: We're going to the clothing outlet nearby the house. We need to get Rem some new clothes.

The two looked at each other. Perhaps it's best to go now since the day still has begun. A new world means a new life. Including new clothes of course.

Rem: Coming, Mother.

She hurries like a little maid she was with her hands folded to her front through the doorway and out of the room. Subaru follows behind almost leisurely. Leaving behind the mystery of their return in the modern world.

He passed the doorway and saw Rem in front of their mother while the father sat himself on the family sofa in the living room. Naoko had her small, brown bag with her and was ready to leave.

Naoko: Ok, ready to go? It's best to leave now and I will need my clothing back of course.

She points at the clothing Rem wore. In return, Rem looks down at her current clothing attire. Subaru walks from behind.

Subaru: I'll go too. I'll get my jacket-

Naoko: -hold it right there, Subaru.

He was about to walk past her, but was blocked by a hand in front of his face. He stops with a leg in the air as though he froze in the middle of an ice age.

Naoko: This is a girl's trip so I'll need you to stay right here with your father.

He turns his attention to the man sitting on the sofa with his leg crossed over his knee and his arm on the head rest. He grins with a wink and a pointed finger.

Kenichi: Come on, Subaru. Maybe a little more bonding wouldn't do any harm.

Subaru: Wrestling with your son is not an ideal bonding experience!

He stances straight with hands gripped tight into fists. He does admit it's fun and all, but it's just too much sometimes.

He felt a tug on his shirt and in return, he turned his direction to the small, blue haired girl by his side.

Rem: It's alright, Subaru-kun. We won't be long. Rem will be back.

He looked at his mother, who adjusted the brown purse strap around her shoulder, then his facial expression softened. It wasn't trust that bothered him, but by the frightening idea of him being sent back without her. At this point, it couldn't be possible. There is no reason since the whale isn't in this world.

Naoko: We will be right back. Watch some T.V. With your father.

This was fine for now. With a nod of approval, the mother and her newly adopted daughter walk outside as he feels the morning air leak in and the door closes behind. He stood at the same spot, staring at the door in hopes of their early arrival.

He heard the sound of the Television grow louder and turned his head to Kenichi, who turned on the T.V. with the remote. Once he found the appropriate volume setting, he set it on the coffee table. It was on a popular Japanese game show they would usually watch together. The sound of the opening sequence gave much nostalgia in his head.

Subaru fully faces him and walks over to the sofa to sit beside him. His father laughed at a man who fails to ring out another in a large sumo suit and the announcer makes a funny pun on the television. It did make Subaru chuckle just a little, but his mind was somewhere elsewhere. Kenichi narrows his eyes at his son beside him with a quizzical look. To him, he knew he wasn't in it today.

Kenichi: What's wrong? Didn't you used to love this show?

Subaru breaks out of thought and turns his direction to his father. Kenichi pushes his loose rectangular glasses more to his upper nose. Subaru turns away and slumps lower as he supports his elbows on his knees.

Subaru: Nothings wrong. This is hilarious.

Kenichi: Well, you're not laughing like you used too. Have something on your mind?

Subaru: …

So much happened today. Twelve hours ago, he was fighting in a battle against the Hakugei in another world and now, he's back with his parents, watching T.V with his dad. Where life was plain simple.

Subaru: Just a lot has happened…it's just hard to keep up.

Kenichi: You can say so…

He directs his attention back to the T.V during a commercial break. The light of the television glow in their faces as they lay back against the green sofa. Nothing, but a peaceful moment.

Kenichi: ..Mind telling me what you're really thinking?

In surprise, his son faced his father who narrows his eyes towards him.

Subaru: What do you mean?

Kenichi: Come on, Subaru. I can tell...Your face says it all. You have a girl in mind, right?

Subaru turns away. This was usually his father's go to every now and then, but the more he thought about it, his heart couldn't lie.

Subaru: You can say so.

Kenichi: ...Is it perhaps...a cute little demon maid? I haven't seen you stare at a girl this much before.

Subaru: Well… I'm not a pervert or the type to hit on girls.

Kenichi: Ah, I know you're not those guys, but even I can tell you have feelings for this girl. I can definitely see Rem-san likes you too.

His father was of course, really smooth with the ladies and has many of their emails and phone numbers. Not that he was a terrible husband. Naoko was ok with it since he never betrayed their trust.

Subaru thought of Rem more. Everything she did and what she said to him does make his heart flutter from time to time. Her perfect features and her resolve to literally do anything for him. This was the girl he can honestly say he truly cared for. He chuckles to himself and smiles as soft it can ever be. Resting his head against the headrest and stared up at the ceiling.

Subaru: I do love her...How could I not after everything we've been through?

Kenichi: ...and? What's the problem? You seem to be very hesitant when we first thought she was your girlfriend, Subaru.

In that moment, his brows furrowed from another thought. The image of her laughter faintly in his head as he thought about her. The tails of her white dress flowed along with her long gleaming silver hair. The girl he promised to save countless times yet, he was here while she still stood there. Unable to save her. Far from reach.

Subaru: It's...best not to think about it.

He didn't want to talk of that now. He didn't give up hope to save her, but as he stood in hisl world, he had no leads as to how to return back. Worse case scenario, he returns after the battle and everything he hoped to save would be lost. His only final hope is to either return from where he first started or at the start of the battle. With Rem of course. After everything he's gone through, he could never give up on that silver haired beauty he fell in love with...and he'll never let down the girl who saw him as her hero.

Naoko: Ok, just give me a minute...

The two were currently outside waiting next to her outdated orange sedan searching for her keys. Rem stood beside her and peeked a little to at least try to be of assistance even if she had no idea what she's looking for.

Naoko: ...Ah, found it!

She pulls out a ring of keys and puts it into the lock to unlock the door open. She was about to seat herself in the driver seat when she almost forgot about the small girl behind her.

Naoko: Oh, sorry sweetie. Here…

She clicks the unlock mechanism on the door to unlock the other side. After she got out, she went to the other side as Rem followed. She opens the door and gestures to her to seat herself.

With a small smile, she sits in the passenger side of the vehicle and the door closes next to her. She then hurries right around the car and enters the driver's side.

Naoko: Sorry, sometimes I forget you're not from here.

Rem: It's alright. Rem is eager to learn

Naoko: And I'm just as eager to teach you. Now, Don't forget to put on your seatbelt.

By memory from when Subaru put hers on, she pulled on the seatbelt at the corner of her seat until it was stuck. She kept tugging at it until Naoko noticed.

Naoko: Here…

She leans over the divider and grabs onto the seat belt to properly fasten it onto the small girl's waist. The mother seats herself back into her usual spot.

Naoko: There, we can't drive unless you have that on.

Rem: For safety, Yes?

Naoko: mhm...

She nods slightly in agreement then puts the key in the ignition and turns on the car. They back out of the driveway as soon as the car behind them passes by the street and drives away from the spot they called home. Rem watches as the house becomes smaller and smaller in the distance until it was no longer visible as they turned a corner.

Even though Naoko was sometimes clueless as Subaru, she was an excellent and responsible driver compared to her husband, who drove like a professional NASCAR racer.

Driving along the streets, Rem admired the scenery of the trees aligned by the sidewalk as a few pedestrians walked by the houses.

The day was as sunny as any day could be with the blue skies towering above the clouds and a few massive buildings in the distance. She sits beside her newly found stepmother like a doll as Naoko hums a soft tune. Nothing, but calm and peaceful tranquility as they near the destination, turning through every street corner and passing through street lights.

Naoko: So Rem, do you have any clothing preferences? I'm sure that maid outfit isn't the only thing you wear on your days off.

Rem: My apologies, but Rem's uniform is the only clothing Rem will ever need.

By surprise, she raises an eyebrow as she turns into the parking lot of the shopping outlet. In reality, Rem has never had a day off to herself. In fact, she enjoys working as long as her sister is around.

Naoko: Really? Do you not have any friends you spend time with?

As a little girl, Rem didn't have anyone else other than her sister and a part of her was jealous of her. Still, she idolizes her so much, it became an unhealthy idealization. Not until she met the one boy she could ever call her hero and the only one who could ever take her heart. Not until that moment is when her world grew a little bigger.

Rem: Rem has Subaru-kun of course.

They park at a near to empty parking lot with only a few cars parked. She clicks her seatbelt then it reclines back to its original spot. They both exit the car and by surprise, Rem was already learning the basics of this vehicle. After locking the doors, they head behind the car where they met up. Rem admired her surroundings. The pavement she was walking on was so smooth and the arrangement of bushes and trees between the dividers of the near to empty parking lot. The building to her left was one long infrastructure with other neighboring shops and restaurants tied together in this small plaza.

Rem: Mama Naoko-sama, what are you…?

By surprise, Naoko had grabbed onto her hand and Rem was clueless.

Naoko: What's wrong? I've always wanted a daughter to hold hands with when we go clothes shopping.

Rem's face was still concerned, but immediately, she smiles cheerfully and quickly nods. Her stepmother smiles the same and they walk into the store.

The first thing they felt upon entering the store was the cool air from the air conditioner over the warm breeze they once felt outside. It was so refreshing, but then she focuses her attention on the hundreds of assorted clothing on each area. Hung by hangers in categories from the jeans section, to the shirts and blouses. Sweaters and hoodies were folded in the back and stacked on top of each other. A cashier's stand on the side was visible, but only one person was visible in the store shopping as well. So much was offered in a small local clothing outlet.

Naoko: Lets go over here. I think I saw a cute little blouse that might fit you.

She pulls her by the hand and directs her through the racks of clothing, hanging on separate hangers to the area of the location. She lets go of her hand and sorted through the hangers of women's clothing as Rem wanders her vision around the store. She looks around the assorted clothes and sometimes, her eyes eventually look up at the ceiling where the air vents were still visible.

At this point, she wanders around the store curious of what she might find. She glided her fingers on the assortment of shirts with each unique design and color. She copies what Naoko was doing and slides the shirts on their hangers to the side. So many small designs with so much color. One had a small Chibi panda while others had the Japanese language written on them. All of it caught her attention. This was the clothing lifestyle of this world. Based on Subaru's outfit, she understood how much of an outcast he might've felt when he first visited her world.

Naoko: Rem, sweetly. I think I might've found something that fits you!

She turns around to see the woman with brown, short hair holding a small light blue shirt. She walks over and sets it against her for close measurements. The shirt itself was too small and it had a heart logo with some unusual writing in front.

Rem: What does this say?

Naoko: It says "naughty devil". I think it suits you since you are a demon of course.

It "seemed" just about right, but Rem made a small cringed face with her lips slightly pursed. She immediately hides it with a sly smile.

Rem: ...it's...lovely, but it seems a bit too small for Rem.

Naoko: hmm, yes, you're right. It would reveal your stomach. Maybe something bigger.

She sorts through the dozen hangers resting on her arm and picks another. So eager to go through more fitting clothes for her newly found daughter.

Naoko: How about this?

She held up a blouse with many intricate flower patterns in the fabric. It was very beautiful, but the one thing that sticks out would be…

Rem: Umm, mama Naoko-sama, this outfit. Isn't it…?

She stood quiet and from her unknown mood, Naoko looked at the blouse to see it was so thin, the sunlight from the windows of the store shot through the dress. It was very see through with cheap fabric.

Naoko: Oh, my mistake. Subaru might give you oogly eyes if he saw you with this on.

Rem: "Mother~", she says embarrassingly.

Her cheeks turn slightly red from the thought of Subaru looking at her in such a perverted way. He probably would, but in reality, he would try to leer into it from time to time. Rem wouldn't mind if it was him, but it was still too much to put thought into it.

Naoko: What about these jeans?

Rem: Aren't these a bit tattered?

She held up a pair of gray jeans with ripped leggings. This was more of a pair that shows attitude and of course, Rem thought of it as worn and old. These were definitely not the appropriate pair she would not walk around in.

Naoko: How about we try these on. Look, the dressing rooms are still open.

She grasps Rem's hand and basically dragged her over to the fitting rooms in the back. Once they were near, she handed the pile of clothes to the little girl.

Naoko: Try these on. I'll go find some more for you.

Rem: umm, Mama Naoko-sama….

Naoko was about to walk away, but stopped in her tracks when Rem called out to her. She turns around almost cluelessly.

Rem: ...Isn't this, a bit too much?

Naoko: Too much? What do you mean?

Rem: In honesty, some of these...outfits are a bit too revealing and unsuited for Rem.

The woman's once lightened face turned slightly dull from the realization that she's grabbing random clothing without putting too much thought into it. Her eagerness got in the way of reason.

Naoko: My mistake. It's just...Subaru and I never do this anymore.

Rem: Subaru-kun?

She handed back the pile of clothing and stood at a private distance so that nobody else would listen into their conversation. Except the only person shopping was already leaving because there was nothing to find.

Naoko: Yes, when he was only a child, we would usually do these things together, but ever since he became a middle schooler, he stood home most of the time.

In reality, he never liked to go clothes shopping with his mom or even go out for a walk with his dad, they still thought otherwise. Like an average grudge of a child. Since Rem deeply admired her hero, she had to know of his past. If anything upsets him, she was the one that wanted to take away his burden. She must know.

Rem: What happened to Subaru-kun?

Naoko: I'm not too sure myself. Not even Kenichi either. He became more distant to all of his friends.

It is still unknown to them why their son isolated himself in the dark. Away from everyone who has already by now, forgotten him.

Rem: Has mama Naoko-sama asked Subaru-kun?

Naoko: We've tried everything, but Subaru doesn't want to open up. Even as a mother, I know he hides his feelings behind a smile.

This was something Rem knew of him. There were times he really enjoyed having Emilia, Ram, Beatrice, and Rem around just by the deep expressive smile on his face, but there were times when he was alone with his duties as a butler. His sad mopey look was pitiful enough to go and lend him a hand. After that, his frown completely turns itself around. Maybe her presence is all he needed. She liked the idea, but it defeats the purpose of a healthy relationship.

Naoko takes a small breath and turns her once frowning look, to a much happier response.

Naoko: So, how about we continue finding you some better clothes?

With the pile of shirts and jeans in her hands, she walks back to the section of clothing. Rem stood for a little while longer then decided to follow behind. For now, she must worry about fitting in, but she definitely wanted to tackle this problem Subaru faces once they get back.

Shopping became fun for both of them. Naoko enjoyed Rem's company more than she anticipated. She was a very great listener and obedient as a maid she was.

Rem enjoyed having a mother-like figure like Naoko. She was sometimes clueless, but knew what's right. A lot of her personality reminded her of Subaru. Especially with her talk of mayonnaise and such. She tried on a few other outfits based on Rem's personal picks until she finally settled with something more that reminds her of her own maid uniform.

Taking one step at a time with her small black slip on shoes and white high knee socks, she walks out from the corner of the fitting rooms to reveal a black skirt with a light blue knit sweater that made its way only to her shoulders with a white spaghetti strap top underneath. She had a black headband wrapped over her short sky blue hair and her hands were folded to her front nervously. Her step mother, who was sitting patiently, showed eyes gleaming at her newfound look in the modern world.

Naoko: Perfect! You look so adorable! The boys will love your new look!

Her nervous look smiled as she looked down, still embarrassed by her own choice of clothing.

Rem: "Mother~, you can say such embarrassing things sometimes..", she says nervously.

She continues to gleam cheerfully and after that, they chose an extra set with a night gown of Rem's choice that was almost similar to the one she had back in the mansion except it had a small white bow in the center of the neckline. This trip nearly took three hours until they decided it was enough for today. Naoko paid the remaining yen to the middle aged cashier lady then they talked about Rem's cute look. Rem however, was basically hiding behind Naoko out of embarrassment, but they still chatted for a while longer until they decided their little chat should end. The boys back home will probably be worried they were gone for so long. Eventually, they will need more clothing for Rem as she continues to stay.

The drive back home was just as quiet as they left except Naoko decided to turn on the radio and Rem was completely amazed that this vehicle could produce music without any actual instruments. She kept explaining how it works as she drives along the streets of Japan.

Naoko: ...and when I turn this…

She turns the knob on the small device in front of the dashboard of the car and it changes to a different music station of smooth Jazz. Rem of course, was just as astounded when she first heard this device except this sound was a bit staticky due to the music station being far from their location.

Naoko: ...there. What do you think of this? I'm sure you don't have this in your world.

Rem: It's amazing how this device could create such interesting melodies without a musician present, but the quality itself is very poor.

Naoko: That I do agree. We might just get you an MP3 player. The sound quality is much smoother and more private with earbuds.

She had zero idea what she was talking about, but she still loved the idea of trying new stuff. They near the house and turn into the smooth driveway.

Naoko: For a girl your age, we probably should get you a phone too.

Rem: Do you mean those "metias" Subaru-kun has?

Naoko: I'm not sure what a "metia" is, but a phone is a device where you can call someone from long distances. With it, I will be able to call Subaru from the store to the house.

It's very exciting to think Rem could have one of these phones for herself, but she still disliked the fact that Subaru lied to her. She already knew based on his facial expressions he makes, but she still trusts him so there is no need to ask most of the time.

Naoko turns off the car then they get out while Rem holds her new bag of clothing, but to her surprise, Kenichi was walking on the sidewalk towards the house. Naoko also noticed and waved to him as he got closer.

Naoko: Oh, where were you?

Kenichi: I was just on a stroll down the neighborhood. Met with a couple colleagues on the way so I got sidetracked…

He narrows his eyes to the small girl holding a plastic bag of clothing wearing a completely new outfit.

Kenichi: ...Ah, I see you found a new look. It suits you.

He snaps his thumb and middle finger then he points with a wink and smile. Rem chuckles from his little remark.

Naoko: So where's Subaru? Did he go with you?

Kenichi: No, he decided to stay home and wait until you two were back. He said he had to do something important.

She raises an eyebrow. After hearing that, Rem walked closer and stood next to her step mother.

Naoko: What did he need to do that's so important?

Kenichi: I'm not sure. How about we go inside and check on him?

The two nod then they walk along the stone pathway that leads to the front door of the house. Kenichi unlocks the door and opens it, then he gestures to the two girls to walk inside.

The room itself was the way it was left. The television was off and it was nice and tidy. No life was present.

Kenichi sat on the sofa while Naoko and Rem looked around for their raven haired boy.

Naoko: Subaru, we're home.

She called out his name, but no answer. Rem felt a little worrisome, but Noako had another thought in mind. She thought of the obvious.

Naoko: I think he might be asleep in his room. Rem, can you check on him for me?

She happily nodded and hurried down the hall to face the closed door. She raises one hand and knocks carefully as to not disturb him so suddenly.

Rem: "Subaru-kun?.", she whispers.

She heard nothing from the other end. Slowly, she turns the knob and opens it slightly.

Rem: Subaru-kun…?

Nobody was present. The room itself was completely clean and arranged neatly. The bed was made and the clothing that was left on the floor was picked up. She took a step inside and scanned the area. The first thing she noticed was the floral scent in the air and the smooth, dust free floor. Still, he wasn't in the room.

She dropped the bag on the bed and became worried the more she thought about the worst possible outcome.

Naoko: Subaru, if you're hungry there's some yakisoba left over-

The short haired woman walked in the doorway and was shocked to see he wasn't inside his room. Only the small, blue haired girl stood with a finger to her bottom lip. After hearing her mother, she turns around.

Naoko: He's not here? Maybe he went to pick up snacks? Let me call him.

She pulls out her phone and flips it open. After searching her saved contacts, she speed dials her son's phone number.

After a few seconds, the caller ID was no longer found. She pulls it away from her ear to check she punched in the right numbers.

Rem walks closer to her curiously. Naoko tried to call him again, but still no answer.

Rem: Is Subaru-kun alright?

Naoko: He's not answering…Maybe bad reception…

She had no idea what this "reception" was, but she knew something was wrong.

Rem: .., but...what if…?

The frightening thought started to pour into her mind. She didn't want to be separated from him. She didn't want to be left behind without him. She wanted to be by his side as promised.

Faintly, they both heard Kenichi talking in the living room with the sound of the door closing. Immediately, Rem rushed out of the room and by relief, her hero was standing in front of the door talking to his father.

Kenichi: Where were you at? You can't disappear on us like that, Subaru.

Subaru: Oh, I was...doing something important. It's best not to-

He scratches the back of his head when he suddenly felt something warm embrace him from his backside. He turned his head slightly as his arm was lifted upwards to see the small girl holding him.

Rem: ...Subaru-kun, where were you?

Her voice was trembling. She was afraid of ever being separated from him. She looks up to his ominous sanpaku eyes then his face forms into a smile.

Subaru: hehe, You look pretty cute, Rem.

:)

Yeah, I didn't want to leave it off on a cliffhanger so I added a bit more. So, I was actually surprised that I could do this chapter within a week. Crazy right? Unfortunately, I'll be taking a break for another week so expect another by the end of this month!

Besides that, I really want to thank all of you for the reviews!3...and thanks for the opinions for this story! As you can see, I'm still not sure on how to bring Emilia into this. It's not that I don't like her. I just wanted to write something mainly of Rem and Subaru in these sorts of moments. I could put Emilia into this, but it makes my original plan a bit more complicated.

alankordel958, thank you for your opinion and I respect your reasoning, but I believe the reason why we aren't getting enough RemxSubaru fics is the after hype of season 2. Season 1 had ALOT of RemxSubaru fics after it ended and about Rem's nature, I only have two words. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. What she has done before versus now is completely different and changing as the story progresses. Yes she has murdered him, but the witches scent literally screams bloody murder so there is no reasoning with it. Besides, he has forgiven her that time. I don't want to give spoilers to current novels, but I'm positive she'll get the character development she needs so her relationship and obsessiveness for Subaru could finally be resolved when they get married in the end ;) 3

I'm that serious lol.

If you have any ideas or if you want to rant about stuff unrelated to the story, please PM me. I want to keep the reviews section mainly about criticism of the story. Not my thoughts.
