Hey guys! So I've been writing in 3rd person so far, but I thought it might be fun to write from 1st person. This POV is from Effie during Snow's execution. Make sure to be getting those tributes in!

The mud squelched unpleasantly beneath my heels. That wasn't the only thing that felt unpleasant. The air had a dirty feeling to it, as did the whole Capitol. Everything lay in smoky ruins it was all so… gray. It was weird, the Capitol had always been so bright. I would've loved to be in the Capitol two years ago, before I met Peeta and Katniss… but when I did it seemed like everything changed. Now, this was the Capitol and I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to be… and this was the second time this week I'd had to be here. The first time was to explain the games to the rest of the Capitolites.

Plutarch and I had planned on doing the reapings today. Well, I would pull the slips and he would just sit in the background doing whatever it is he does. We had planned on doing that… but President Alma Coin had irresponsibly forgotten to tell us Snow's execution was today. And of course, Plutarch and I were too busy to know about it otherwise. But the reaping was delayed nonetheless. All the previous reapings were much more organized; of course they were, I was in charge of them. But again, that all changed when I met Katniss and Peeta… I wondered where they were. Last time I had seen Katniss she was a mess, though I had heard rumors that she was going to be the one killing Snow. That sounded like her. As for Peeta, I'd heard he'd gotten back from the Capitol. I hoped he was okay. I hadn't had time to visit him. But if Katniss was at the execution today, he would be too. That was just who he was, even the Capitol couldn't change that… could they? I felt guilty to think I had grown up in the Capitol and yet I had no idea what they were capable of.

A crowd was gathering in front of Snow's manor. Plutarch had to push past multiple people with dirty faces and ripped clothing to get to the very front, near Coin. I should've felt special, being one of the only to be invited to sit with her, the only other than Plutarch and I Alma's own niece, but I didn't. Alma had a special way of making people feel extremely unimportant. I gathered my skirts and stepped carefully around a large lump of what I hoped was more mud.

Alma sat like a statue in one of the seats that had been saved for us. She stared off into nowhere. I would've thought she was dead if not for the slight movement of her thumb on her fitted pants and the motion of her chest rising and falling. She looked calm when she was in front of people, but really she wasn't ever calm. Nobody was ever calm lately. A result of the war, and Katniss and Peeta had got the worst of it. They didn't deserve it. Nobody did.

Guards walked Snow to a post right between the crowd and the manor and chained him there. He walked too calmly… it was unnerving. As soon as that was done, Coin seemed to muster all the power and authority she could to step up onto a ledge still grand enough for her to stand on.

I think Alma says a few words, but really I have no idea. I wasn't paying any attention to her. I was looking at Katniss, who was sure enough front and center with a bow and arrow in hand prepared to kill Snow. She didn't look good. She looked sick- she was thin and dirty and her eyes gave the impression she was going crazy. And oddly, it didn't look like she was going to shoot Snow. The bow and arrow were pointed at him, but her wild eyes were staring with an unblinking gaze at Alma. Why, I wondered.

I got my answer very quickly. Because just as Katniss pulled back the string on the bow to shoot Snow, she turned suddenly, launching the arrow straight through Alma's heart.

Everything was chaos. Plutarch and Alma's niece stumbled forward to catch her before she hit the ground. I watched as guards ran forward towards Katniss.

I started to run down the stairs towards her as well, but Peeta got there first. Just before he reached her, Katniss turned her head and prepared to rip something out of her sleeve- Poison! It had to be- I remembered Haymitch explaining something to me once about Katniss being too valuable to let the Capitol get a hold of her, so they gave her a poison pill in case she did ever get caught so she wouldn't tell any secrets or something. And Katniss was going to take it. It was too late to save her. She was going to die.

The very last second, Peeta clamped his hand down on her shoulder. Katniss's teeth tore his skin, but I don't think he cared and neither did I. A few guards handcuffed and blindfolded Katniss and hauled her into the Capitol, Peeta running after them. I let out a breath I was holding in, and fell to my knees holding my gasping chest. She was okay… but I couldn't say the same for Alma.

Alma's dead body lay on the stone step, but it was unattended. Right next to it, Commander Paylor and Alma's niece, Juline I think her name was, were arguing.

"If anything was to happen to President Coin, I was appointed to take over!" Paylor yelled.

"Alright." replied Juline calmly. "But my aunt's last wsh put me in charge. I'm hosting the games, and she put me as her second in command to work on it and to help her with her duties."

Commander Paylor closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Fine. You can carry out your aunt's last wish and host the games, but I'll take over with all of Coin's other duties, as acting president over the people."

Juline nodded and started towards Plutarch and me, who had been standing watching they're argument. "Come on." she said. "We've got work to do."

So there we go! Chapter 5 done. DId you like it? Any thoughts? I think next chapter will be the tribute intos but I'm not sure because I only have a few submissions so far. If you need the submission form you can PM me or check my profile. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
