They hate me!!! Ponny started to think, crying uncontrollably in her hands with Mrs. Snugglefuss perched in her lap. I knew it!! It's because I'm a Primid, isn't it!? Why do I have to exist!?The rest of the evening didn't play out as Mario had hoped. Instead of happy faces and bright smiles, all she got were disgraced looks and hisses of rejection.
The Primid tried not to picture what was happening out there in the lobby, as she wanted to spare herself the usual angst.
Tabuu was right. I was a mistake. I really am...
Just then, amidst the silent and depressing afternoon, Ponny heard her bedroom door open, revealing to be Mega Man himself. Uncovering her face, Ponny wiped away any leftover tears from her eyes and hugged her Eevee plush.
She abruptly looked away, trying to avoid eye contact as possible. Long hair waving slightly she turned her head to the other side of the room.
"Ponny, Mario says he's sorry for what happened earlier," he began. "He wanted me to tell you because he's busy calming down the others for your introduction."
The small Primid nodded in acceptance to this apology, and started rocking back and forth.
Mega Man motioned his hand towards the doorway to the halls and then asked, "would you like to see them again?"
The Primid shook her head reluctantly, her eyes closing shut in response. The blue bomber chuckled a bit and sat down on the bed beside her.
Ponny looked down to Mrs. snugglefuss as Mega glanced at her. With careful effort, he started speaking again.
"Ya know, not everyone remembers your species," he explained, trying to comfort the kid. "No more than 20% of the fighters here in the Smash House even know what the Subspace Emissary was."
...You'd be surprised Ponny thought dismissively. During their little chatter, the blue bomber had risen from the mattress and walked out of the room.
"Well, let Mario know if you're ready to come out," he chirped, closing the door behind him.
Ponny was left alone again, like always. This usually never affected her that much, seeing as how she was always by herself most of the time.
The Emissary household was no exception. The only friend she has in this wretched world is her soft plush toy Eevee.
She hugged Mrs. snugglefuss in hopes of calming down, the soft brown fur it had rubbing itself against her face.
Rolling onto her bed in a lying position, Ponny flipped over on her side and snuggled the plushie.
It's just you and me now again, Mrs. Snugglefuss.
Out in the lobby, everyone showed vile displays of anger, resentment and bewilderment. Some fighters were crying in the left side of the lobby while others were yelling and screaming.
At this moment, Captain Falcon and Wolf were surrounding Mario, their faces scrunched up in disgust.
"What in the name of Master Hand were you thinking!?" Wolf barked, slamming a provoked fist onto the table. "Bringing a Primid into our establishment, hoping she turns a new leaf!? That's kind of mushroom-brained of you, Mario!"
"I get the suspicion that maybe that Primid you brought home is a spy!" Falcon chimed in.
Mario let out a sigh of anguish as he was bombarded with concerns about the new member, struggling to find the right words. Looking everywhere around him, he noticed most of the members from the Brawl and Ultimate timeline looking nervous.
The red plumber cleared his throat to explain more, but felt speechless as to how all this could go down the drain so fast. "You see, I had a talk with Master Hand about the number of people in our establishment not being enough," he said.
"...And?" Fox stepped in.
"I decided to head down to the Smash Shelter, where I was hoping I'd find someone, and then I came across Ponny. She seemed perfect and... besides..."
The red plumber started growing evermore weary as he droned on about the small Primid.
He tapped his fingers against the marble table as he was searching for the right words to describe this current situation. Some of the classic fighters were waiting impatiently for Mario's answer, their attitudes becoming more vindictive.
"...Ponny has not been having a great life," he spoke finally. "She's gone through so much pain because of how she is right now. I thought maybe if I took her in, she would feel better for it."
Luigi, watching from the crowd, had grown from scared to proud as his brother stood up for the Primid like a champ. "If it wasn't for me, Ponny would've been dead. If you don't wish to interact with her, then be my guest and don't approach her."
Mario slowly turned from worried to protective, since this moment was nearly escalating to extreme bloodshed.
Everyone exchanged confused glances until someone from the back row pitched in. "I agree with Mario on this one." It was Palutena, who walked through to the front with her hand raised.
"I have zero knowledge of this 'Emissary' you guys speak of, but I support the red plumber's decision here."
The entire lobby fell silent, with each and every fighter looking at each other and the constant chatter lowering down. Most of them voiced their agreements and some of them just went with it.
Mario trembled from where he stood, gazing over to the goddess.
"Palutena, you didn't have to do that," he croaked.
Palutena smirked mischievously and replied, "just doing my job to make sure no one kills each other." She strode off with Pit and Dark pit, leaving the rest of them talking amongst themselves.
Mario trifled with the tip of his hat while his green brother gulped down a knot in his throat.
Peach, walking up to the red plumber, began to speak. "That was the right thing to do, hun," she said. Mario nodded and witnessed the spectacle happening before him.
"Hopefully, they actually are gentle towards the kid. I cannot stand to see what they would do to her if they tried."
