Author's note: I'm going to put the point of view in bold at the top of each chapter. Eventually, there will be other viewpoints and I hope this will make it less confusing.
Elsa Winters
Anna raised a brow. "Do you know what time it is?" The girl crossed her arms. "Oh wait, of course you do; that's the whole point, isn't it?"
While at first this seemed amusing, Elsa suddenly wasn't entertained. "What are you talking about?" Her sister being upset about her missing curfew was understandable, especially since this was Anna's first night back. However, why was she making it sound intentional? No, Elsa shook her head, Anna probably just thought she was aware of the time by now.
"You missed curfew on purpose." Or not. How would Anna know? "You see, I was thinking about what could possibly make you decide to date all of a sudden. You've barely even looked at any guys since you were, what, nine? At first, I thought it was just because Jack was special to you, the only boy who could convince you to get in a relationship."
Elsa flushed slightly, though she was relieved. That's what people were supposed to think after all: that she was hopelessly in love with Jack. It was supposed to seem reckless. "He is special to me," the girl confirmed.
Anna ignored her. "You always said relationships were a waste of time and energy, that they would distract you from your goal. A sad philosophy but I know you would never do anything you thought mother and father wouldn't like." The girl smirked suddenly. "And that's when it hit me. Even if you were in love with Jack, which I doubt you are, you would never date someone with his reputation. I mean, reputation is everything to our parents, isn't it? You wouldn't go against them like this."
Honestly, Anna was so much smarter than people gave her credit for. She was clumsy and could appear a bit ditsy because of it. She was the type of girl to leap without looking. That was why she was considered the fun one and Elsa the smart one. However, times like these reminded Elsa of just how observant her sister secretly was.
Anna was also nurturing. She noticed things and she cared. For example, the strawberry blonde carried tissues on her during allergy season because her friend Merida had awful allergies. The girl tried to hide it but, of course, Anna still noticed. Elsa didn't know how she thought her sister would believe she and Jack were really dating.
"And if you wouldn't date him if our parents didn't approve, that means they do approve. In fact, I think the only reason you would randomly get into a relationship is if they did more than just approve; they are forcing you." Anna smiled, clearly pleased with herself for piecing it together. "I was prepared to confront you about that but then 9 passed and for the first time you were late. You wouldn't accidentally miss curfew, especially with a forced boyfriend, which means it was intentional. You're not dating him in spite of his reputation; you're using it to your advantage so our parents let you dump him."
Anna had been home for less than a day and she had already put the entire thing together. There was no point in denying it, as her sister clearly understood the situation just as well as Elsa did. She only missed one tiny detail. "Mother and father think Jack and I chose to start dating. Originally they were going to force us so in our first meeting we decided to pretend we had jumped into a relationship, to show them how insane this all is."
Her sister raised a brow. "Did you both make this plan or was it Jack? I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to get with the one girl who wasn't throwing herself at him." She looked annoyed, gripping the armrest of the chair.
"He isn't like that." The words rushed out of Elsa's mouth before she could stop them.
Anna frowned. "He's exactly like that. He's good for a one-night stand and nothing more." She let go of the chair, crossing her arms. "He's kissed half the girls in school and broken all their hearts. The only girls he hasn't been with are blondes and he isn't a fan of-" Anna cut herself off, clearly realizing Elsa had blonde hair and everyone knew Jack preferred darker hair. "Point is he's trying to get in your pants with his stupid plan. Just tell mother you don't want to date him; you know she won't have it in her to make you if you seem unhappy."
Now it was Elsa's turn to frown. "It's not like he forces the girls to make out with him. I'm not saying it's okay," the girl rushed to add, seeing her sister's disapproving face. "It's just that everyone knows Jack doesn't do serious relationships and they go out with him anyway; that's on them. Besides, it was, um, actually my idea." The girl felt the blood rushing to her face.
Her sister's eyes widened. "Your idea?" She only looked confused for a moment before shaking her head. "No, no, no! You can't be serious, Elsa. You were a kid! You've had nine years to get over him."
Wait, what? Elsa, too, began shaking her head. Her sister had the wrong idea about the whole thing. She hadn't proposed the idea because she wanted to date him; she did it so she wouldn't have to. Otherwise, they would have spent who knows how long being forced to go to events together and tolerate each other.
This allowed dating to be on their own terms. Of course, it meant they had to commit more to this relationship than they would have before, actually seeing each other in school, kissing, and going on dates. This was a faster way to prove to their parents that this wasn't going to work.
"I'll give you credit for figuring out we aren't dating." Elsa felt herself blushing for no reason. It didn't matter if Anna thought she liked him; that just meant Elsa really was a good actress. However, she couldn't usually get something past her sister so the fact Anna believed this worried her. "I do not have feelings for him though, not romantic ones at least."
Anna groaned loudly, throwing herself back in her chair. "So you're friends with him then, right? You've always said he was nothing but a player; you said you were glad your friendship ended at age nine." To Elsa's annoyance, her sister had gone back to shaking her head. "You've already changed your mind on that. So tell me, how sure are you that you'll never develop romantic feelings for him."
For once, Elsa was relieved to feel her phone vibrating in her pocket. She hated phone calls, labeling them as some of the most awkward conversations. Still, anything was better than this, especially when her sister was making a bit of sense.
The girl glanced down at her phone, realizing it was Jack who was calling her. Maybe it'd make it worse if she answered, possibly making Anna think she was right. Still- "I have to take this." Elsa accepted the call, holding the phone up to her ear while ignoring her sister's frown.
"Hey, Jack, everything alright?"
He cleared his throat on the other end of the phone. "Yeah, of course." There was silence for a moment before he added, "Do I need a reason to call my princess?"
Since Anna was in the room, she decided not to roll her eyes. After all, her sister was already against Jack. "No, I guess not. It's actually good timing." Anna scoffed at this. "There is a bit of a situation."
"Did your parents get upset? I know you're not used to getting into trouble."
Honestly, her parents scolding her would have been better than this. "No, nothing with my parents." She glanced over at Anna who was beginning to smile slyly. "My sister figured it out, all of it."
The phone went quiet and Elsa felt her heart thumping. Would he be mad at her? They were supposed to keep it a secret and the blonde had already ruined it. "Ha!" Jack suddenly shouted, startling the girl. "You broke a rule! That means I get to break one too!"
This time Elsa couldn't resist rolling her eyes. She supposed she had broken the not telling anyone rule though, so if Jack wanted to skip driving her to school tomorrow or something that'd be fine. "And what rule do you feel like breaking?"
"Do you even hear yourself?" Anna mumbled more to herself than Elsa. "Don't prompt him!"
Her sister made a fair point, Elsa realized as Jack answered. "I'll have to go with rule #1." The girl wasn't sure about the order of most of the rules, especially since the list was at Jack's house. She knew rule #1 though: no side chicks.
He wanted to cheat on her. Well, Elsa supposed it wasn't really cheating since they weren't a real couple. The girl he "cheated" with wouldn't know that though. What if it was Layla? Now that she wasn't rejecting him anymore he probably wanted to get with her. The blonde realized she didn't have a good reason to stop him; it just hurt to think about.
"I should go." The blonde was seconds away from hanging up the phone, her heart aching. Elsa was simply mad that even in a fake relationship he couldn't be loyal. It was no wonder he hadn't had a girlfriend before.
"Wait, Princess!" Jack's shouting momentarily distracted Elsa, her finger hovering over the 'end call' button before she put it back up to her ear. "Kissing me can't be that bad, can it?"
The girl frowned in confusion, ignoring the way Anna was staring at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Um, Rule #1?" The phone went silent for a moment and Elsa heard the rustling of paper. "Shit, no, I meant rule #2. I don't want anyone but you." He had mixed up the rules? Jack had meant to make a joke about being able to kiss her in private.
"Oh." The girl wasn't sure what to feel. She had gotten that worked up over a simple mistake. What did that mean? "I should still go; goodnight, Jack." She hung up the phone, vaguely hearing the boy say 'goodnight' in return.
Anna raised a brow. "What was that about? For a second there, you looked like you had just watched a puppy die." Her sister did look concerned and it seemed Anna wasn't just asking because she wanted to prove Jack was a bad idea. Still, Elsa felt emotionally drained. Who knew she could feel every emotion in one day: anger, happiness, peace, jealousy, sadness, love…
Elsa blinked rapidly. She clearly needed sleep as soon as possible. Therefore, she sent her sister away, claiming her tiredness was what made her look so sad earlier. Maybe it was. After all, it wouldn't be the end of the world if Jack got with Layla, would it? Elsa hoped not considering that was likely to happen as soon as they broke up.
The next day Elsa marched into school with Jack's hand in hers. She felt much better today than she had the night before. Sleep worked wonders. It also didn't hurt that the attention was much easier to handle today.
Some people still stared at them, seeming surprised. They might have expected Elsa to be a one-day thing. Still, Elsa was sure the entire school had heard about their relationship, so it was officially old news.
Yes, Elsa was certain day 2 at school would be far easier. Her emotions had spiraled yesterday but now she could return to normal. Being with Jack didn't have to change everything. She was still Elsa Winters.
"Good morning," Anna smiled happily at her sister. While Elsa knew Anna was coming today, it was still weird seeing her in the hallways. The strawberry-blonde had driven her own car so Elsa hadn't seen her yet.
The blonde returned her smile. "I'm glad you're back." Before Jack, Anna was the only one that Elsa really socialized with. That was fine, of course, and self-inflicted. Still, it'd be seeing more of Anna. They could eat lunch together again.
Elsa stopped, glancing over at Jack again. Anna had made her feelings for the boy quite clear. It didn't make sense, but the blonde tried to understand anyway. She supposed she wouldn't like him much either if he had broken her friend's hearts. In fact, until recently Elsa had shared her sister's feelings.
It just would make things more complicated if Elsa wasn't able to hang out with both of them at the same time. Jack had insisted on abandoning his friends to eat lunch with Elsa; did that mean Anna wouldn't want to eat lunch with them?
"I should get to class," the strawberry blonde mentioned, snapping Elsa from her thoughts. "I'll see you at lunch though." She smiled again before rolling her eyes as they landed on Jack. That would certainly make lunch interesting. At least she knew her sister intended to sit with her still.
"She really doesn't like me, huh?" The boy looked off at the wall, sighing slightly.
Els shrugged slightly, wishing she had a good reason to offer as to why. "She'll come around eventually," the blonde decided to go with even if she wasn't sure that was true. Surely if Elsa could forgive him then so could Anna, right? Maybe if Elsa told her sister about how Jack had made amends with her at the lake then Anna would ease up. The blonde didn't really feel like telling her though, not when Anna was sure to ask more about their "date".
"There's the happy couple!" The people in the hallway parted to reveal a smirking boy. He had a mess of shiny brown hair and large, mischievous eyes. He had the second thing in common with Jack. Elsa supposed that made sense; the boy was Flynn Rider, Jack's best friend.
He was the most popular boy in school, behind Jack that was. His 'smolder' made the girls swoon and the boy never wasted an opportunity to use it. He had been in a few relationships before but nothing serious. At least, Elsa doubted he would call them serious.
Flynn stopped in front of the couple, grabbing Elsa's hand and placing a kiss on it. "Enchante." The boy smiled at her and the blonde wasn't sure whether to roll her eyes or laugh. How was it that she was standing with the two most popular boys? One of her hands was being held by Jack, the other kissed by Flynn. Clearly, today would not be as normal as the girl had hoped.
"I wanted to meet you yesterday but, well, something came up." His eyes twinkled, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Jack seemed amused. "You skipped, didn't you?" He shook his head slightly. "You need to be more careful; one of these days you might get suspended." Elsa was surprised to see that despite Jack's teasing smile, he really did seem concerned about his friend.
If Flynn noticed, he didn't comment on it, dramatically clutching his heart instead. "I'd hate to have to miss school." He laughed slightly before adding, "Punishing missing school by having me miss more school would make no sense."
Jack merely shrugged. "Doesn't mean they won't do it."
"That's not important now anyways. You're dating Elsa Winters." His attention shifted so that it was back on the girl, a suggestive smile on his face. "You really are gorgeous. Jack made it quite clear you were off-limits though." He shot a teasing glare at his friend. "If he couldn't have you, neither could I. Yet it seems he got you after all."
Elsa felt beyond confused, tilting her head slightly. She had no idea what Flynn was going on about. "What do you mean?" She supposed if Jack had kept Flynn from pursuing her then that was appreciated. She didn't enjoy being hit on and had no interest in Flynn anyways.
Jack's grip on her hand tightened slightly. "He's just messing around, Princess," the boy replied for his friend but not before giving Flynn a quick glare. "Not about the gorgeous part though."
Despite the obvious confusion on Flynn's face, he nodded. "We'll talk later, okay Jack?"
Jack too nodded. "Yeah, later." Then he tugged slightly on Elsa's hand, leading her away. "C'mon, don't want to make you late for your first hour."
"Um, yeah, right." The blonde looked back in the direction Flynn had left. "Did you actually tell him not to hit on me?" She didn't know why she wanted to know; some part of her was just so curious if Flynn had been being serious or if that was part of a joke.
She turned to Jack who was rubbing the nape of his neck with his free hand. He opened his mouth a couple of times before speaking. "Yeah, I did." He shrugged. "I probably shouldn't have but Flynn only wants casual flings or one-night stands. I didn't think that was your kind of thing."
"It's not," Elsa confirmed. Even when they weren't friends, he had still looked out for her in this small way. "Thank you, Jack." They had gotten to the door of her class so Elsa turned to fully face Jack before leaning up to place a kiss on his cheek. They kissed before classes sometimes to seem more like a couple, but Elsa hadn't initiated. Technically she still hadn't initiated a real kiss, but she wanted him to know she really did appreciate what he had done.
The boy's eyes widened slightly and he seemed to realize this was more sincere than usual. "Anytime, Princess." He smiled at her before heading away towards his own class.
