PART 5
Days passed and eventually Desmond was hanged for his crimes, putting an end to the con- artist couple from Winnipeg. Of course, the investigation ended up on the front page of the Gazette, picturing former detective William Murdoch, as the witness and almost hero of the event.
Meanwhile, after that beating, William Murdoch needed to be admitted to the hospital again, due to the stab wound and the concussion he suffered. Sure, to his and Julia´s relief, the knife didn´t damaged any important organs, however, as the doctor said, the beating left him stuck on his wheelchair once again.
''So, William, how you feel to be a hero once again?'' Julia teased him one night, a week after returning to the hospital.
''I'm not,'' he replied with a frown.
''You are, if you helped solve the case, are you happy?'' she asked.
''Yes, but… don´t need to be over… protective.'' He said this slowly and she laugh.
''Alright old man,'' she said kissing him. ''William, I was having an idea, I think we should start to find our own place, our own home, what you think?''
''Why?'' William asked.
''Why? I simply think we should find our own place William; you think it's a bad idea?''
''You will be tired,'' he said matter of factually. After all Julia had help in the hotel, in the matters of taking care of her husband, something she wouldn´t have in a home of their own.
''Well, we can discuss this later,'' she said helping him into bed and pulling a blanket over him. ''The doctor said you need rest and meanwhile I will plan a way to convince you to help me find the perfect house for us. Sweet dreams my hero.'' She kissed him before she left to get herself to bed.

The weekend following, Detective Watts finally came back to work and when the Inspector himself told him every detail of the investigation, he was simply stunned.
''So, Mr. Murdoch witnessed everything the whole time?'' he asked again, and Thomas nodded. ''And I'm happy to hear you were right, it was the partner.''
''Yes, I was right. Shame my detective wasn't here to confirm that for me,'' the Inspector said serious.
''I apologize, Sir, my friend Jack broke his leg, and I took care of him.''
''Why didn't you call the bloody hospital?''
''He asked me to take care of him instead,'' the detective replied.
''Ah, so are you acting like a nurse now huh?'' Thomas snorted. ''Let me see… you abandoned a case because you did something a bloody hospital could do. Let me tell you Watts, next time this happens, you better call the hospital, instead of letting your colleagues do your work for you, or you won't be just acting like a nurse, you will be one,'' he said.
''Sir?''
''You heard me Watts and you won't be paid for this case. Now go,'' Thomas said, and with a regretful nod, Watts left.

That same afternoon, Nina Bloom found herself sitting on the bench at the park, watching people coming and going, when a man approached her. It was George who passing by the park on his way on duty, spotting his ladylove there and decided to give her a kiss.
''Good afternoon young lady. Are you in distress?'' he asked and she smiled.
''Well, after helping the police catch a con artist and a murder, I don´t think I will be in distress any time soon,'' Nina smiled. ''By the way, you need to watch my performance tonight. We will recreate the whole story.''
''Ah, very good!'' George agreed. ''And you as the main character I won't miss for the world.''
''How is Mr. Murdoch doing, George?''
''Oh, he´s doing well, he still having some trouble with his hearing and probably will be stuck in his wheelchair for longer than we expected, but he will be fine,'' George explained. ''He and Dr Ogden… I mean, Mrs. Murdoch are planning to travel to Paris next month when he recovers better.''
''C´est tres jolie!''Nina joked. ''Maybe one day I pass by their hotel to give them some tips about Paris,'' she said, and George raised an eyebrow.
''You have been in Paris?''
''Lived there six months. Maybe, we could go together, what you think?'' she asked.
''I think it's a marvelous idea,'' he agreed. ''Nina, I want to thank you for your help on the case,'' George said. ''The detective witnessed, and he was very brave to do that. But you also helped a lot. If wasn't for you discovering the killer´s identity, I don´t even think if Mr. Murdoch would be alright right now. Thank you.''
''You are welcome, my brave constable!'' Nina said and gave him a kiss. They stood there watching the people coming and going, till George needed to go back to duty.
Everything was alright once again, at least for a while.
