The next morning came and Cass was at least a bit wiser. She had spent another two hours yesterday figuring out the person Lena Luther. She even went as far as watching a few interviews with her speaking about the new direction of her company. She also watched the statements Lena made about the crimes her brother Lex had committed.

All in all, she decided, she liked the woman. Even with all this negative press, you could see the positive development in L-Corp after Lena Luther had taken over. And as she worked with Supergirl all the time, she could not hate aliens.

Because of that she was considerably more determined to keep the woman safe. At 7 am sharp she and their driver stood before the apartment building again. The CEO exited her home with a staple of papers in one hand and her bag in the other. As soon as she was in the car, she started to work through them.

Cass still remembered that the other woman had made it clear, she needed someone who would not disturb her work, when they first met, so she kept quiet. The same was true about their arrival at L-Corp. Lena just greeted her assistant absentmindedly and went directly to her desk.

Jess gave her and Cass the schedule for the day and left them alone. After realizing that the CEO was already too deep in work to notice her, Cass took her place on the couch again. This was a strange job. She was sitting around all day not doing anything, but it was probably just quiet right now. From what she had gathered from the internet she knew there were times where Lena really did need a bodyguard.

She made sure to have the security cameras in her field of vision then started to read again. It was a book about the progress of medicine in the last ten years. Remarkably interesting and also complicated.

Normally she would not read such a volume when other people were around her. They all thought she was a freak for reading this kind of books in her free time, but she liked it and the other woman did ignore her either way, so it was perfect.

Nothing special happened until shortly after lunchtime. There was a slight impact to be heard from outside. In not even two seconds Cass had closed her book, jumped up and put herself between Lena and whatever was on the outside of the building.

Lena nearly jumped out of her chair in surprise. But a second later the worry proved to be unjustified. Cass opened the door and greeted her friend: "Kara, it´s you. I thought someone was on the balcony to attack Lena."

Lena stood up as well, she looked impressed: "That was a fast reaction. Good lord you really startled me."

Kara interrupted her: "I am sorry, but we need you at the DEO Lena. It´s particularly important." She tried to catch her breath a bit before she continued: "It´s about Alex. We were fighting a rouge alien and I don´t know how it happened but she got kidnapped. One second she was there and the next nowhere to be found. But we found an unidentified substance and we need you to analyze it. Please!"

Kara was near tears and Lena reacted immediately: "Of course. Cass tell Jess to cancel all plans for today and have the car ready in 5."

The other woman nodded and left the room to follow the commands. In the meantime, Lena pulled Kara into a hug. She hugged her back like her life depended on it. After a short while she pulled back and said, still fighting her tears: "Thank you Lena, that was exactly what I needed. Normally Alex keeps me grounded but now, I don´t know what to do."

Lena wiped the tears from Kara´s face tenderly: "It´s okay, we will find her. I will meet you at the DEO as fast as I can. That´s what friends do right?"

Kara nodded profusely and went for another short hug: "Yeah. You are definitely my best friend, Lee. Thanks."

Cass came back inside and after seeing Kara´s red eyes said: "We can go, everything is ready. We will find her, Kar. And Alex is one of the bravest women I know. She will be alright."

Kara smiled softly and said: "You´re right. Let´s go." She once again went to the balcony and jumped off in the air.

The two left in the office hurried to get into the elevator. The journey downwards that was normally so fast, took forever today, even if it was just in their minds. As soon as the doors opened, the two women walked as fast as possible to the car waiting outside.

The moment they were in the car drove off. For a second it was silent, then Cass asked: "Did Kara give you any more information about what happened? While I was out?"

Lena shook her head: "No, but if something would happen to Alex. I don´t know how Kara would take that. I don´t even know how I would. Alex has slowly become my friend as well thanks to Kara."

Cass smiled sadly: "Same here. We just must hope for the best. Can I help in any way when we arrive?"

Lena looked at her questioningly: "You mean apart from making sure, no one attacks me?"

Cass nodded: "Yep, apart from that."

Lena wrinkled her brow: "Do you have any other qualifications I don´t know of, apart from your law studies? You know I called Kara yesterday and asked her why you want to work as a bodyguard when you studied law."

Now Cass looked a bit irritated: "And what did she say?"

Lena answered: "She said I should ask you, but she doesn´t know, if I get an answer. I even used goggle to search for you. I found nothing. Really nothing, no social media, nothing. You know how rare this is?"

Cass bit on her lower lip once, trying to form an answer: "Okay. Then we are quit. I googled you as well yesterday. I found too much to be honest. I don´t have social media because I am a very private person. I don´t want to waste my time sending snapchat pictures or anything like that. And I work as a bodyguard now because I want to. I like to keep people safe. Law was just not my thing. Always trying to trick others, lying into their faces. You understand that?"

Lena looked impressed and worried at the same time: "I understand. I really do. There is so much politic in law, so many intrigues. I would not like that as well."

Cass smiled and Lena continued: "Wait, you googled me only yesterday? You didn´t know who I was when you took the job?"

Before Cass could answer the driver said: "We are there." Cass wasted no time and exited the vehicle. While she helped Lena out of the car, she said: "Yes, just yesterday. But we have to find Alex now."

The two women strolled into the inconspicuous building. While Cass eyes darted around, making sure everything was safe, Lena had only eyes for her bodyguard. She was dumbstruck. Never had she met someone who went into a new job with so little information.

And what irritated her the most, was that she had noticed no change in behavior from the other woman. Everyone looked at her differently or treated her differently because of who she was at least a bit. She wondered if Cass was just an amazing actress or if she simply did not care about the opinions of others like Kara had said.

She was roused from her thoughts when Kara ran to meet them: "The substance is in Alex laboratory right over there. We don´t know what it is, just that it is not from earth. You can use everything in here." She looked at an interesting instrument that looked a bit like a copier, "Whatever it is. If you need something, anything, just ask."

With that she vanished as fast as she had entered. Lena moved over to where the samples of the fluid lay. It had a strange consistence like gel, and it was light blue. Interested she moved closer and started to work, taking samples.

She analyzed them in many ways and collected the outcome in a tablet, ready to try and match it to any samples the DEO already had. That way they could maybe determine the origin.

After a while Cass left the room silently and unnoticed by Lena. She let her gaze wander around the commando central a bit, where people were running around and searching frantically. Kara was nowhere to be seen. She managed to stop one of the agents to ask for water and some food for herself and Lena.

He pointed the way to the kitchens out to her and after a gaze back to Lena, who was still immersed in her work, she went for it. No one would attack her at the DEO with all those agents around.

She grabbed two big water bottles, some fruit and protein bars. Things Lena could easily eat while continuing to work. She silently opened the door to the laboratory and slipped back in. Lena was concentrating on the analysis she made now.

Cass giggled softly to herself, it was amazing who focused Lena was on her work. She never noticed what happened around her when she worked. The sound how soft it had been seemed to snap her boss out of her work. She looked surprised: "Where did that food come from?"

Cass laughed: "I went to the kitchen and got it for us. Here." She offered Lena of bottle of water, "You should drink something. We have been here for hours."

Lena threw a look at her clock and sighed: "You are right. I made every experiment I could think of. We have to wait what the computer says."

She took hold of the bottle and started to drink. Cass mirrored her and after she finished threw a protein bar at the direction of the scientist. Lena startled but caught the food before it could sail into her body: "Thanks. You didn´t have to do this, you know. Bringing me food is not in your job description."

Cass thought for a second: "The way I see it, it is. I am trying to protect you. The least I can do is protect you from fainting cause you forgot to eat.", she smirked, "Besides, I wanted to."

Both women smiled at each other. The second of amicable silence was interrupted by a loud beeping sound. Lena rushed towards the laptop and exclaimed: "My test results found us a match. Let´s take this to the others."

Cass followed her out of the room and to the middle of the conference room. A tall, dark skinned man met her there and asked: "Did you find something, Miss Luthor? And who are you?"
