Clark kept his face calm as he looked at the console in front of him. The hollow outline of a human body that was coloured in green but once he entered the data it quickly changed towards a red coloration with multiple warning signs appearing. He shook his head before sweeping away the data and starting the process again.
This was the fourth time he's tried to come up with a good counter measure to fight against the seeker swarms and failed. He sighed before taking a step back and leaned against the counter opposite the main lab table 'this would most likely take a while' he thought to himself as he began to think about another approach to the situation.
"Apologies for the interruption Mr Kent" EDI said through the intercom system "but you have been working on your counter measure to the seeker swarms for the last ten hours and thirty-nine minutes" she informed "perhaps it would be best if you took a temporary break in order to rest"
Clark cracked a small smile at the voice "I appreciate the concern EDI but it's not needed" he said back calmly.
"Very well sir" she spoke "I would also like to inform you that Doctor Solus has awoken and is on his way towards the mess hall, I believe he will consume some food before returning to the lab. Also, we are one hour away from the Citadel" she informed "Miss Lawson has inquired as to whether or not you will be venturing into the station?" she asked.
"No" Clark said back quickly "according the messages sent between Cerebrus and Miss Goto, she'll be waiting within the docking bay...somewhere" he shrugged "I don't want to draw attention to ourselves, I'll go out grab her then come back" he said. The in-truth Clark didn't have a reason to be in the Citadel any more than just grabbing the thief and leaving. He'd been there many times before of course and there was no problem but that didn't mean he liked to waste time and there was no reason to delay leaving, besides from what he's seen Miss Goto is on her own timetable.
"Understood, I shall inform Miss Lawson of your decision" she said before cutting out the intercom.
Clark let the silence overtake him for a moment, he mentally chuckled. Well, silence for him at the very least. Which wasn't too bad, though he could only ignore so much. He found it impossible for him to block out all the sound around him, at least completely.
Turning back to the task at hand he tried to focus on a better way to do this. Coming up for a counter measure for the swarms was proving itself to be a difficult process. Not only did he need to come up with a way of protecting people from it but also reversing the process want it's completed.
Mordin talked about creating an armor upgrade that would just protect those going down to fight, but Clark didn't think that was enough, he wanted to go a step further. He wanted to create something that would disrupt the stasis field that was or already has affected people while at the same time wiping out the swarms themselves. Needless to say, it was a difficult process and would no doubt take a while.
Before he could up with a new idea the doors of the lab opened and Mordin walked in "ah, Mr Kent. Still here, good good. Was wondering if I could ask you more questions" he said as he walked to the other side of the desk.
Clark had a small amused smile as he rolled his eyes, Mordin has been asking him questions none stop since they started work. Nothing to bad thankfully as Clark really couldn't be bothered explain to him why he wasn't going to tell him everything about himself. No, thankfully the scientist was more interested in a brand-new alien race. He spent hours asking questions about Kryptonain society, government, culture etc "what is it this time Doctor?" he asked.
"The way you talk about Kryptonain culture, make it sound so perfect. Can't help but wonder, couldn't have been problem free, must have been issues" he spoke going back to the terminal "wondering about if there were any inside conflicts, civil wars, terrorists"
"hhmm" Clark hummed as he thought about what to say back "we didn't have any wars, not with ourselves, at least not until the very end. Which was due to the problem that was the case. Around three hundred years before I was born the government decided that choice was overrated" he said as he took a step forward and started to work on another idea for how to fight against the swarms "so artificial population was put into place. Everything became artificial, there were no natural births anymore, every child was made within a Genesis chamber and augmented to help them fill a predetermined role in society, a solider, farmer, scientist, leader"
"hhmm" Mordin hummed back not looking up to meet his eyes "could see how others would strongly disagree with methods but have to admit, seems very efficient. What went wrong?" he asked and even though he wasn't looking Clark could easily tell he had all of his attention.
"The idea came back to bite them in the ass" he scoffed "when you have an entire race of people who are born to do one thing and one thing only, it starts problems when they meet each other. The day I was born, Krypton's military leader, General Zod launched a coup against the ruling council"
"a coup" Mordin said back quickly "don't understand, how can one who was built to protect, attack?"
"Quite easily when you think about it" Clark said back "General Zod was designed and raised on the plan that he would be the protector of Kyrpton, the conflict came when he realized that the ruling council was leading Kyrpton to ruin as they were designed and raised to ensure the government remained in power, in doing so they endangered the planet itself, which caused Zod to act against them" he explained.
"Ah I see, conflict of interest" he said back looking up to Clark "since no choice was ever offered, they have no choice but to fight for what they were designed to uphold. What about yourself?" he asked.
"me?" Clark said back.
"What where you artificially designed to become?" he elaborated.
"nothing" Clark said back quickly "my father was one of Krypton's most renown scientists, my mother a specialist in biology. When they met and began to discuss certain philosophies and they found out the other agreed. You see they both realized that despite how advanced Krypton was it lost something precious. The element of choice, chance, the ability to change. Given that, they decided to have me the natural way. So, I was the first natural birth Krypton had in centuries" he explained as best he could, though to be fair he was just retelling what his father told him.
"hhhmmm" Mordin scratched his chin, no doubt in deep thought "have something to do with your power I wonder" he said thinking out loud.
Clark was about to replay before he was interrupted "Sir, we are about arrive" EDI spoke.
"Understood EDI" Clark said "we'll talk later Mordin, let me know if there are any developments" he instructed before turning to leave.
"Don't get comfortable Joker" Clark said as he made his way out of the air lock "We'll be leaving in a few minutes"
"Roger that sir, not like I wouldn't kill for club night right now" Joker said back as the door closed behind him.
Clark mentally smiled at the remark before stepping out of the ship into the small docking by lobby that led into the open station. There were about two dozen people spread around the lobby and before Clark could look around to see where miss Goto was, she got in touch with him "Mr. Kent" a synthesized voice said. Clark turned to his right to see an advertisement screen change as the hidden face of Miss Goto appear, smirking at the dramatic effect, he walked forward towards it "got problems with collectors? Try Kasumi's credit services!" he stopped when he reached the screen and gave a smirk "Please tell me your password and receive a free gift"
Clark crossed his arms and nodded "silence is golden" he said remembering what the password was going to be.
"A pleasure to meet you Mr. Kent" Kasumi said "Kasumi Goto" she introduced herself.
"Has Cerebrus briefed you on the mission?" Clark asked, he new she had an idea based on what she said before but it he wanted to make sure.
"Not every detail I'm sure" she said back "but I have enough to get the idea, the collectors are going after our colonies and you'd like my help to stop them. Not sure how much help I can be though, I'm not a solider" she explained.
Clark nodded as he looked to the corner of his eyes and saw the shimmering figure, kneeling on one of the support beams that hung overhead "you're not going to be doing any front lines fighting" Clark assured her, he knew once he read her bio that she would be a fighter. That was fine, he didn't need one. What Clark needed was someone who had no problem crawling through tight spaces and hacking completely new and unknown systems, he could do that himself of course but he can't be everywhere at once "What I hope you'll be doing is what you're best at, sneaking into tight spaces and stealing secrets from terminals or objects, stuff like that" he explained.
Kasumi gave him a smile and nodded back "now that is something I'd be happy to do, you know. In exchange for all the money and the favor" she said.
"yes" Clark nodded "the favor" he turned to face her directly as she rested on her perch "think they would have told me something about that" he added with an eye roll.
"yeah, I guess it slipped their..." she stopped as her head turned away from her omni tool as she realized that he was looking right at her "minds" she finished. Her jaw dropping slightly "huh, I thought it was just a coincidence when I was told who was leading this little team" she leaned forward, practically leaning half over the edge "but you're really him aren't you?" She asked.
Clark gave her a shrug "I'm really him" he said, knowing full well who he's talking about.
"well" Kasumi said with a cheerful tone as she jumped down and landed a few feet away from him before walking towards him "this makes things much easier" she said as she reached for a small metal panel that was underneath the advertisement, Clark tilted his head and looked to see what was inside, he gave a small hum as she pulled out a carrier bag "shall we?" she said.
"We shall" he confirmed as he gestured towards the ship "Let's go and tell me more about this favor"
"Well, it's quite simple, I'd like you to help me with a heist" she said as they walked through the tunnel leading towards the ships airlock "my old partner died and the man who killed him Donavan Hock, stole his Grey Box. We're going to get it back"
"and I'm assuming there's a reason you don't want me to just go wherever we need to go and get it back before anyone could blink" Clark as the two stood in front of the air lock waiting for it to open.
"a couple actually" she said back as the door opened and they both stepped into the ship "Number one: I already came up with a plan and I don't want to waste it. Number two: while that would be cool to see, it would be really boring. Number three: I want to Hawk to know that it was me who took it back" she said with a determined voice.
"Fair enough" Clark said in understanding "and I'm still going to need a lot of details about this though" he finished as the door to the ship opened and the two walked in.
"Don't worry" she said back calmly "we have seventy-two hours to go over the details" she added.
"I'm assuming that's because that's how long it will take to get where we need to go" Clark added not even sounding surprised.
"exactly" she smiled.
"alright" he said back as they walked around the galaxy map "plot the course to where we need to go, then we go to briefing room and you can tell me the situation.
"Ok, walk me through it" Clark said as he stood opposite Kasumi in the briefing room.
"The primary object that we're taking is a Grey Box that's located within the vault of Hocks mansion. In a few days he'll be throwing a party for all of his closest friends" she walked forward and used her omni tool, which activated the holo in the middle of the table, there were a handful of images that floated around the room that showed images of what Clark could assume is the mansion "a couple dozen of the worst liars, cheaters and mass murderers you'll ever want to meet, all bringing gifts as a tribute to the man himself" another image came up, showing a statue of someone who look familiar to Clark "the tribute you'll be giving is a lovely statue of the once great man Saren, once we're inside. We'll make our way downstairs to the vault door, somewhere in the back of the ballroom"
Clark nodded as he looked over the plan, so far it seemed to go well "and what's my cover going to be?" he asked.
"You my superpowered friend are going to be playing the role of Solomon Gunn and a luckily lady you choose is going to be your wife Alison" she said calmly "while you're the head of a small but talented band of mercs out in the terminus systems, your wife is the recruiter and scouter. Together you're a couple he can respect"
"and I assume this lady is you?" he asked.
Kasumi laughed before looking him up and down "I wish" she said with a sigh "but unfortunately Hock knows who I am, so I won't be able to sneak around in front of him. No, you'll have to get someone else to do it. Got anyone in mind?" she asked.
Clark crossed his arms, in truth there was only one person who could fill that role, he couldn't help but let out a chuckle, hell she's probably done something like this before "EDI, does Miranda have anything that could be used for a black-tie event?" he asked out loud.
"Miss Lawson has one logged item of clothing that would be classed as an item equal to black tie" EDI responded immediately.
"I need you to brief her on the situation" he instructed.
"Understood Mr. Kent" she said back before the com cut out.
"Anything else?" he asked looking to Kasumi.
The thief took a moment before responding "not right now but no plan survives first contact with the enemy, but with you here to make sure it gets done. I don't think it'll be a major problem" she added with a smile.
Clark looked at himself in the mirror that was in the captain's cabin 'why would they think I'd need a suit' Clark thought to himself as he did up the last button and straightened it out "how do I look EDI?" he asked out loud.
"You are wearing the items of clothing as they are designed to be Mr. Kent" EDI said back quickly.
"thank you" he said back before turning around and heading for the exit but froze when he did.
Standing in front of him was a beautiful red head wearing an eloquent purple dress that hung to her body so well that it would allow anyone to see her figure which was near hourglass like 'Lois' he thought to himself as the image of his late wife stood before him. It must have been the feeling of going to a formal event, something he hasn't done since last award night he went to when she won that Pulitzer. He couldn't help but give a sad smile at that bitter memory, bitter because it was a good one to think about but also because it brought back the pain that she was gone. That was the thing about having a memory like his, as useful as it was had its downsides. Sometimes it acts out without him meaning to. Closing his eyes for a moment and forcing the memory out of his head, opening them and she was gone. Shaking his head he walked forward trying to regain his focus, which he did by the time the elevator doors closed.
Stepping out onto the command deck, he was greeted by the cheerful yeoman "Sir, I... oh wow" she said "you...er... look very handsome Sir" she managed to say with a blush.
Clark gave a small smile as he walked past her "thank you Kelly" he simply said as looked out the front window and saw that they were entering the planet's atmosphere. Heading towards the air lock, he saw Kasumi standing there waiting with her arms crossed in what she was wearing before, she'd no doubt be around in the background cloaked.
"ETA to landing two minutes" Joker said from the cock pit.
"and when we land we should have a car waiting to get us to the mansion" Kasumi said looking at her omni tool "shouldn't take us more than ten minutes to... wow" she said looking over Clark's shoulder.
Turning around Clark could see what she was talking about. Almost every head on the command deck, particularly the men were glued to the form of the ships executive officer. Not that he could blame them. Miranda was wearing a tight-fitting red dress that hung to her body very well, her legs were completely covered but the middle of her upper body was exposed with an X pattern that exposed her belly button, her mid-riff and cleavage. She also had to long gloves that reached up to her elbows but seemed to be disconnected to the dress itself. Her hair seemed to have an extra curl to it and from what Clark could tell she barely had any make up on. That was impressive to say the least.
"Miss Lawson, you look beautiful" Clark said keeping eye contact.
She gave him a professional smile "thank you si... Clark" she corrected herself "ok, new rule. If I have to Clark the least you could do is return the curtesy" she said "you clean up well yourself" she added giving his body a glance "shall we?" she asked.
Clark was about to answer but was stopped by the sound of EDIs voice "docking clamps engaged" she said as the ship let out a small jerk.
"yes, I believe we shall" he said turning around and offering her his arm, which she immediately took "alright Kasumi, where's this skycar?" he asked the already invisible thief as she walked alongside them.
"Don't forget to ask for a martini, shaken not stirred" Joker shouted after them.
Neither of them said anything back but Clark did have a small smirk on his face.
"Nice view" Kasumi said as she sat in the back seat of the car as Clark drove it through the sky towards their destination.
"yeah" Clark said casually "suns really shinning" he had to admit looking out towards the Horizon as the sun began to sink under it.
"not that" the thief quickly said back.
Clark looked over his shoulder and saw the thief almost leaning over the seat behind Miranda looking over her shoulder and down towards her cleavage. Once Miranda herself turned to look at what she was doing she gave a small eye roll and looked back forward "that view isn't for you Miss Goto" she commented.
"oh" she inquired "and who is it for I wonder" she added knocking Clarks shoulder with her elbow "eh eh"
"for someone I may need to distract or seduce" she said back quickly.
"wow, I can't believe how calm you are about the idea of sleeping with some random person, I mean I get it for a one night stand but to complete a mission" Kasumi said with respect in her voice "I don't think I could do that" she glanced down at her cleavage again "...but if I had those in my face, how knows what'll happen" she admitted.
"huh, didn't peg you for the type Kasumi" Clark noted.
"she's not" Miranda answered before the thief could "she's jealous"
"that is so true" Kasumi said as she continued to stare "the things I could get away with if I had those. How genetically modified are you because... wow"
"that's none of your business" she immediately said back.
There was a moment of silence between the three before Kasumi took one last look before sitting back "fair enough. Remember the sooner we get out, the better are chances of success are" Miranda and Clark both nodded before the mansion came into view "are you ready Mr and Mrs Gunn?" she asked.
Neither Clark nor Miranda said anything but they gave each other a small glance, he knew she was ready and vice versa. They both kept a calm face as he landed the car in the designated area. He heard Kasumi activate her cloaking device just before the doors opened and Clark stepped out.
Normally Clark would be more of a gentlemen about the situation 'Ma would be scolding me like no tomorrow if she were here' he thought to himself as he watched Miranda get out of her side of the car without him going over to offer his hand and waited for her to walk around. He couldn't forget, he was a cold hearted mercenary group leader, not someone who cares about chivalry.
Once she reached him he wrapped an arm around her waist and held her close, Miranda playing her own role didn't seem bothered by the action. Based on her expression she looked emotionally dead but also someone who was assess the situation around her, very effective for her character. The two walked forward and Clark instantly found the man they were robbing, seemed he liked to welcome his guests personally.
"I don't believe we've met" he said looking at Clark but could see the subtle glances he was giving Miranda "Donavon Hawk" he said placing his hands behind his back posing like some prideful dog.
"Solomon Gunn" he said back giving Hawk a flat stare "it's good to put a face to the name" he added "this is my wife Alison" he introduced.
Hawk turned his face to Miranda and gave her a confident smirk before looking her up and down, this time much more obviously "a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Gunn" he said reaching down for the hand that she barely offered before bringing it up to his mouth and kissing it maintaining eye contact the entire time. It took Clark a lot to not roll his eyes that display "you two have been very busy lately" he added lowing his hand and letting go of Miranda's "if the extranet is to be believed. Please, come inside. Enjoy the festivities" he stepped to the side allowing the two to enter.
As expected, the hall was grand and full of a lot of pretentious crap that gave the impression that he was clearly overcompensating for something. The music was calm, the drinks where flowing and he had to admit there was a something good smelling food as well "ok guys, the vault entrance should be at the back of the hall. Make your way over there and we'll see what we're working with" neither Clark nor Miranda said anything just slowly made their way over there.
Clark reached out and took a glass from a passing waiter "not bad" he said taking a sip, that was when a large painting on the left wall caught his attention "what the hell?" he said in a tired and annoyed voice. The sudden break in his character caused Miranda to look herself and when she saw the painting, she nearly started to chuckle herself "I thought I got rid of all of those" he said.
On the wall was a large painting that seemed to depict himself. The focus of the large oil painting was Superman with himself facing sideways on top of rubble, the background being a half destroyed statue of liberty, beams of red light shooting from his eyes and traveling towards a larger man that wore a purple suit with its skull completely visible covered in purple fire "your final public fight against atomic skull" Miranda said with her arms crossed and her hand pressed against her chin, she leaned in slightly to read the plague underneath "the battle of liberty island, July 21st 2017. According to the records, a city block was levelled before you moved the fight there"
"it was the 23rd" Clark looked down and sighed with a tired attitude "remind me to destroy that before we leave" he said. Without turning around completely he glanced over his shoulder and could see they or more accurately Miranda was being watched. Facing his date for the night he leaned in and spoke right into her ear and he did his best to ignore the way her body reacted to the closeness "I'm going to need you to distract Hawks eyes for a few moments while Kasumi and eye head down to the vault"
"Understood sir" she said back immediately before turning away from him and making her way to what seemed to be a bar area.
He waited a few moments wanting to make sure that she had distracted the host before continuing towards the destination. Walking down the stairs towards the vault he was greeted by Kasumi who seemed to be studying it closely "very nice, more than I expected" she commented "password protected voice lock. Kinetic barrier. DNA scanner... hhhmm it looks like an EX-700 series. Everything a vault need to be impenetrable" she listed.
"Do I need to force it open?" Clark asked.
"no" Kasumi said quickly "I told you, he needs to know it was me. Besides, its not too bad. Remember who you're talking to?" she said. She rolled her neck and cracked her fingers together "first things first, we need a voice sample. Already have that from when he introduced himself. Finding Hawk's password is something we also must get. DNA? That's child's play, hell I'm sure Miranda could get that in five minutes. And for the barrier? Cut the power, never fails. If we can find it" she looked back to the large barrier that protected the front door "Keiji could get through this in his sleep and I'm better" she smiled.
Clark nodded before turning around and making his way back up to the party "Alright, I'll cut the power" Clark said already looking at the power line under the floor "Kasumi, you can head off and get the DNA samples. Miranda, think you can get the password from Hawk?" he asked.
Over at another end of the party hall Miranda gave Hawk one final smirk which he believed to be genuine before turning to leave, leaving Hawk and the three other guests to continue their discussion "that shouldn't be a problem" she said into her com.
"Someone's confident" Kasumi said back in a teasing manner "how are you planning on getting it?" she asked.
"The diamond in my wedding ring is a fake that has a needle underneath, it's tipped with a toxin, that'll make him experience being more drunk than he's ever been before. Shouldn't be too hard to get him to talk after that" she explained as she made her way to the stairs.
"not bad" Clark's voice added "but how do you plan on getting him alone to prick him with it?" he asked.
"that's a good point" Kasumi weighed in before she could explain "I mean you're a complete knock out and every guy here wants to sleep with you but do you really think Hawk will leave his own party and guests?" she asked and Miranda could tell she wasn't being insulting but generally curious.
"of course he will" she said back without a word "after what I've just done, he'd be gay not to"
"what did you do exactly?" Kasumi asked.
"I've been talking to him for the past five minutes, made a couple of condescending comments about my loving husband, gave him a couple of sideways glances, not made it to obvious because that would be to cliché and boring no doubt something that's happened to him a hundred times before. I'm walking right towards the stairs that lead to his bedroom, which he doesn't care I know about. I know he's looking at me cause I'm giving my ass a little more sway then a normally would. I turn around" she did so "give my husband one last look, add an angry glare" she added looking at Clark as he walked across the hall no doubt towards where the power was "look back at Hawk while he stares at me. Look his body up and down, this time more clearly this time. Smirk, turn around, start walking up the stairs" she did so "and..." she waited for two seconds.
"Excuse me. I must check on something, I will be back soon" she heard Hawk say.
"...teach me your ways" she heard Kasumi say.
"even I have to admit, that was impressive" Clark said "reminds how the Asari react around me. I think you just earned yourself another question" she added.
"thank you Clark" Miranda said as she opened the door to his bedroom "I'll be out in a minute or two" she said.
Clark kept his hands crossed as he looked at piece of art in the corner of the room 'fake' he thought to himself while he looked at the painting 'The Starry Night' one of Van Goghs most well-known pieces. He didn't even really need to look closely to tell, he knew it was fake because he stole the real one two months before Lois died, Luther thought it would be a good idea to take it for himself and put a fake in its place. Clark being Superman of course wasn't going to allow that to continue, he was going to give it back to the Museum of Modern Art but as he did. He couldn't help but think what would annoy Luther more, giving it back. Or an alien like him keeping one of the most famous human paintings ever made.
With a calm face he turned his head and looked at the small humming metal box that controlled the power. His eyes lit up for a fraction of a second and seen only to him, an invisible beam of solar energy shot out from them. Clark turned around and started to walk back towards vault. The sound of melting circuits heard only to him "the powers out" he said through the com.
"I've got the DNA" Kasumi added.
"the password is Peruggia" Miranda also chimed in, Clark looked towards the stairs in time to see her walking down them.
"huh, that's the name of the man who stole the Mona Lisa. Nice" she commented "now, I just take the voice sample I got from Hawk when you guys said hello and we're golden"
Clark turned the corner at the bottom of the stairs and saw Kasumi typing into the console "Password required" a voice said.
Kasumi typed something into her omni-tool "Peruggia" Hawks voice said.
"voice ID accepted, welcome Mr Hawk" the same female voice said.
Without a word Miranda entered the room and stood beside Clark as they watched Kasumi move to another console "how did you get the DNA sample?" she asked the thief.
"I got it when I sneaked his bedroom" she answered quickly.
Miranda shared a sideways glance with Clark who simply shrugged in response "you were in his bedroom?" she asked.
"yeah, where else would I get a DNA sample?" the thief turned around and look at Miranda "great work getting that password by the way" she smirked as the door behind her opened. Miranda couldn't help but scowl as Kasumi turned her back "shall we?" she said as the others moved forward into the vault.
After a few seconds in a small elevator the three stepped into a large open hall like room that was full of all kinds of trinkets, paintings but it was mostly statues "so this is Hawk's vault, very nice" Kasumi commented "that's a lot of statues" she reached into one of her pouches and pulled out a small device "the scanner can home in on the Gray box. It's not far" she said as the three began to walk around the room.
Clark had to admit, this guy was one hell of a collector. There where so many different treasures here "is that a Rachni queen? Guess everything's valuable to someone" Kasumi dismissed.
"I've never seen one of these before" Miranda spoke with crossed arms as she looked at the random piece of art "it's very rare to see Turian art outside of Palaven" she said.
"look at this?" Kasumi said looking at the statue of a giant demon looking thing "wow, imagine this coming at you in a dark alley" she added.
They continued to look around for a few more minutes before Miranda and Kasumi both zero'd in on a display table "hey look, that's a Kassa Locust. No wait, that's THE Kassa Locust!" she said as Miranda reached down to grab it "the weapon that killed two presidents. Gorgeous. It even comes with a perfect copy too" a smile came on her face as she looked at Miranda who was holding the weapon close "you know, I'm sure Hawk won't mind if you borrow it for a while"
Miranda looked at the woman for a little bit longer "no" she said grabbing the second weapon "I'm just gonna steal them" she added, smirking back.
"I respect that" she replaced before stepping forward to what was left on the display "oh my god" she said "there it is" she gasped activating her omni-tool and waving it over the box which responded with a flurry of screens "no" she said as she typed something else but two more screens popped up "no no no. Damnit! The bastard had it encrypted" she scowled.
Mirnada couldn't help but be surprised by sudden turn in character "don't worry about it" she said walking forward "we'll take it back to the ship, EDI should be able to get through it" she added before turning around and seeing Clark on the far side of the room "grab the Grey Box, the skycar should be outside the mansion waiting for us to come back. Clark, we need to leave" There was no response.
Miranda frowned as she starred at his back. It wasn't like he couldn't hear her, he could have heard her from the other side of the city, she assumed at least. It's never been officially said how far he can hear but it's been scientifically guessed at least. When she walked forward towards him, it became clear why he was distracted and now that she thought about it, why he hasn't said a word since they got down here. Stationed in front of Clark was a large suit of green armor that held no pilot, it would look like an oversized mech suit to any other alien but to pretty much any human, it was impossible not to recognize it.
This was famous battle suit of Lex Luther.
And a good reason as to why it took all of Clark's attention. He's had five so called battles with the so called 'innocent' businessman. Well calling it a battle would be generous, it was more of Luther making a mess and Superman mostly taking care of the people while every now and then slapping the suit around like a parent would a small child "sir" she said stepping beside him. When she did, that was when she noticed his clenched fists "Clark" she added with a louder voice.
His head turned to face her slightly before he looked forward towards the suit again "he had six of these" he explained "each one better than the last, all designed to kill me. This was the first one he built" he stepped forward and looked at a spot underneath the armpit where Miranda could clearly see a fist shaped dent "take Kasumi and get back to the Normandy. I'll meet you there soon" he dismissed.
Miranda didn't react to the order immediately, but starred at him for a moment "what will you be doing?" she can't help but ask.
Clark slowly nodded "well, there's a couple more things here that I don't think Hawk should have. I wouldn't mind listening in on what's going on upstairs, lots of criminals talking and sharing secrets, could come in handy. And I'm really pissed off right now because this has brought up some bad memories and I'm so angry right now so I'm probably going to destroy the entire place and reduce that suit to less than the atoms that make it" he added as his eyes glowed red "so take Kasumi back to the Normandy, complete the mission while I piss on the memory of the man who murdered my wife"
"I...understood sir" she said back quickly before looking back to Kasumi who was still messing with the Grey Box "let's go" she said wrapping a hand around her waist and pulling her towards the elevator.
"we leaving?" she asked "but I could get some more stuff out of here you know. Why's Clark standing over there?" she asked quickly.
"don't worry about it" she shot back as the door closed.
It was a tense atmosphere aboard the Normday as the majority of the crew stood around the Galaxy map. There were questions when Miranda and Kasumi came back alone, Miranda wasn't going to answer any but when EDI said there was a situation within the mission zone, she had to see what was going on and the quickest way to do that was by the large holographic terminal that held the galaxy map.
Which was now showing a live video feed from one of the probes that the ship had "so" Kelly said taking a step forward beside Miranda "are you sure you can't tell me what you saw that set him off? I am I psychiatrist, could offer some help" she suggested.
"no offense miss Chambers" Jacob said as he took a step forward towards the two "but I don't think you could help...that" he said pointing towards the 3D image.
Miranda couldn't help but agree. The image showed an overhead view of the mansion, the mansion itself was on fire and looked like it was bombed, dozens of large holes covered the building and there was a large crowd outside, it seemed to be the security combined with the party guests. It also seemed every minute or two there was a large beam of red light that shot out of a random part of the building "is that the heat vision I've read about?" Garrus asked as another blast shot out, this time going outside the front door almost hitting the crowd.
"You know, if I knew he was going to do this I would have just asked him to run in and take it" Kasumi said scratching her chin "the whole point of going in was to leave the message so Hawk knew it was me who took it back. This kind of ruined the whole point of the heist. I feel bad for Hawk now" she admitted.
"I am detecting a seismic anomaly" EDI's voice interrupted everyone conversation "it would appear there is a point four magnitude earthquake occurring within the vicinity" as she spoke the entire mansion began to shake and crumble in on itself.
"Should we be worried are stupidly powerful leader seems to have temper tantrums" Joker said in a relaxed voice but everyone could tell he was very concerned about what he said. Everyone present couldn't help but agree as they watched the entire building slowly start to crumble bit by bit until it fell apart like a sand castle "I mean seriously, should we be worried about this?" he asked.
"nah, ain't got nothin to worry a'bout" a voice said "he's bloody Superman for cryin out loud. And according to the rumours he's my new wing man for the Asari clubs" that seemed to get a laugh from some of the crew, the rest seemed too nervous to react.
"Kenneth" a female voice said in a scolding manner.
Before anyone could say something else the screen showed the entire building clasping in on itself and after a few moments the entire mansion was just gone, a pile of rubble.
'I'm going have to write this in my report' she thought to herself, don't get her wrong, she completely understood why he may react the way he did. Getting a remainder of the man who killed his wife is going to set anyone off, but it did not fill her with confidence that the man with God like power seemed so easily set off.
The chatter in the CIC cut out however when the 3-D image of the building changed back to the galaxy. Before anyone could ask why it changed, they all froze as the sound of the air lock opening drew everyone's attention.
And there he was. Everyone became incredibly quite as the captain of the ship walked back in. Though it was impossible to miss that he looked completely different then when he left. Though she hated to admit it, Miranda and she betted many other female crew mates couldn't help but stare at Clarks chest as the entire upper part of his body was exposed, it looked like it was burnt off as proven by the many marks of soot that covered his body. Though she eventually pulled her eyes away from what must be one of the most impressive upper bodies she's ever seen. She was even more blown away from what he was carrying.
"Hey Clark" Kasumi spoke calmly but Miranda and a lot of others could tell there was a small weary tone in her voice "what ya got there?" she asked.
Clark's calm face turned to look at her "hhmm, oh these?" he said looking to what he was carrying under his left arm "the dialect in these two beauties is Quarian. I've never seen anything in Quarian written down on something physical before so I'm going to try and translate it, see what they say before I either give it back to the flotilla or someone on their pilgrimage. Whatever comes first" he shrugged as the large two stone tablets rattled together.
"cool" she nodded back still staring "and that" she pointed at the large object he was carrying on his right shoulder.
"this" he said giving the object a small shake while all anyone present could do is stare "are you kidding? This is the Michelangelo's David" he said shaking the large statue "I'm not letting him keep this, where would he put it? He hasn't got a house anymore" he started to walk towards the elevator, most of the crowd being forced to duck as the seven tone statue moved over them.
"should I set a course for Earth?" Joker asked "you know, wherever this thing is supposed to be kept. A museum or something?" he guessed.
"hhmm" Clark said turning around in the elevator, it almost looking comical as the giant statue was carried so casually in the air "no, I'm going to take a page out of Kasumi's book. I'm keeping this one"
"I respect that!" Kasumi called out as the door closed.
