Enough was enough. James was completely sick of people yelling in the streets that 'Robin Hood is saving us all once again, giving us poor people money!' when Robin Hood, which was James himself, was actually trying to plan his next coup.
Whoever was imitating him had some gall. Okay, it was true that they were also helping the poor, but did they have to go and steal his name? No, they didn't! How dare they! James was not usually one to get angry very quickly—though some of his friends might say the opposite—but he was fuming right now.
He was going to do something about it, but for the moment, he had promised to meet the Fair Maiden Lily just before the bell struck eleven, and he was going to be late.
Sure enough, as he stole through the woods, he heard people discuss Robin Hood's latest exploits—exploits James had not done.
Suddenly, as he was approaching his dear lady's castle, he spotted a man in a cloak giving money to the poor, they were praising him and calling out his name.
The Fake Robin Hood.
James immediately decided to ditch his plans and follow the hooded individual. Much was his surprise when he saw the man creep in through a window that led to Maid Lily's chambers!
Oh Lord. What was he going to do to Lily?
James burst into the castle—slyly, of course, it wasn't as if he was supposed to be there—and rushed up to Lily's rooms.
The hooded individual, the fake Robin Hood was there! He was taking his cloak off and–
"Lily?" James asked, completely dumbfounded.
She smiled cheekily at him. "I had a feeling I was being followed.
"You're the one who has been impersonating me!" he exclaimed.
"Well, it isn't really fair you have all the fun, gallivanting around while I stay in this chamber all alone, completely bored out of my mind."
James could barely believe what he was hearing. Lily meanwhile, was putting her cloak away as if nothing had happened, and all was perfectly normal. She was even humming to herself—she had a real lovely singing voice—and she tidied herself up.
"But you stole my name!" he argued.
She shrugged. "Stole. Such an ugly word. I'm just giving it to whom it rightly belongs, right."
James opened his mouth in shock. She'd just used his own words against him. But then, suddenly, he understood their true meaning. "Wait–"
"Yes?" She turned to face him with a smile.
"Did you just say—"
She just smiled at him once more. Turned out, James was actually more than glad to have someone impersonate him.
