A New Dawn
Story Summary: AU: In a World where Sitri is Rhea's Daughter and fought in the war of heroes. And raised Byleth with the Argathians is a much more significant threat than anyone realizes how the region will react when it is fully engulfed in chaos.
Chapter 5: The Mock Battle
Jeralt's Class: The Golden Deer
"Okay, Everyone, listen up; this battle is the time for me to gauge where you are. So if even though I am participating, I will not be issuing any tactics, that is your job," said Jeralt. Who took out a piece of paper and glossed over it. "In this mock battle, I need to pick three people because Claude as the class leader, and me, The class professor, are required to participate. Don't complain if you're not joining in the battle. The people joining are Lysithea, Leonie, and Marianne."
"I won't let you down, Captain Jeralt!" said Leonine full of enthusiasm
"Leonine, that's Professor Jeralt to you; next time you call me Captain, your doing twenty laps at running speed around the entire monastery," yelled Jeralt
"I can wait to practice more magic on targets," said Lysithea
"Professor, why do I have to join," said Marianne
"Marianne, your joining because you're great as a healer," said Jeralt
"Professor, why am I not joining in? After all, I am your best Student," complained Lorenz
"my best Student!" said Jeralt trying to contain his anger. "I don't think so your rude to others, especially those who are not nobles and do just below average on yesterday's pop quiz. Now your not joining, and that is final. Your punishment for complaining is you get to do ten laps around the monastery at running speed."
With that, Jeralt forced all students to not complain about anything or join Lorenz.
Seteth Class: The Blue Lions
"All right, everyone, these are the people I am bringing to the mock battle, First things. First, I will let you know that this Battle only gauges where you are at the current moment. I do expect to win but whoever wins this battle is not important. What's important is for you to demonstrate where you are at the current moment. Now I made my decision on the three I am going to bring the Class Leader and me are required to Join, so that makes three spots left." said Seteth, who paused before continuing. "Dedue, Felix, and Mercedes. You up in this battle. Dimitri, Mercedes, Felix, and Dedue, you guys can stay in the everyone else can leave once I'm done with the announcement.
At this point, Ashe raised his left hand to ask a question, after Seteth points to Ashe to speak.
"Professor Seteth, may I ask why can't nobody else join and what are the others going to do while the battle is happing?" Asked Ashe.
"Great question," Commented Seteth. "If you are not participating, you are going to take notes of the battle, and then after the battle for each losing side. I want you to write why they lost, and if you were in charge of the tactics, what would you do differently and explain why. Any further questions?
Then Annette raised her right hand. And when Seteth pointed at her signaling her to Speak, she got up to ask her question. "Professor, do you want an Essay style response for each losing team or just a couple of words."
"Great question Annette, I want at least two pages front and back for each losing team. And when I get back from an Important matter in two weeks, everyone is going to present it to the class," replied Seteth. "Also, before any further questions. Me, Archbishop Rhea, Flayn, and Byleth next week are going to go to a holy sanctuary for church business. next week you are going to be split up between the Golden Deer and the Black Eagles."
Then Dimitri raised his hand; when Seteth signaled him to speak, he stood up and asked, "do you have a class assigned for us, or will we pick where each person goes."
" Everyone, that was our final question, and Dimitri, I decided that since your the class leader, you are going to do it."
Sitri's Class: The Black Eagles
"All right, everyone, today is the mock battle, and I have a couple of announcements!" said Sitri. "First, I can only bring three other people to the mock battle. those three people are Bernadetta, Linhardt, and Casper."
"Uhhh, why me, why can't I sleep?" asked Linhardt
"Because you're in my class, and I don't tolerate laziness, I gave you plenty of time to sleep yesterday. If you did not take it, I don't believe that it's my fault," said Sitri. "Now, the good news for everyone here is that if you are not going to be taking part in the battle Monday, we will discuss what could be done differently by both losing teams. Also, the strategy for the mock battle will be entirely up to you."
A field outside of the monastery
"The mock battle is finally here. Will you lead us to victory?" asked Edelgard
"Edelgard, I am very disappointed in you. I said in Class that you, the one leading us, your strategy and orders, are what we are going to follow if you lose; it is your fault." Said Sitri
For the mock battle, the battle lines were has followed; the Blue Lions were in the northeast section of the map with them. They had Dimitri a lance; to the left of Dimitri was Felix armed with a sword. Dimitri's Right was Dedue armed with an ax; Seteth was behind the mainline armed with a lance. Behind Seteth was Mercedes, who was armed with Bow but also had her armed with magic.
To the south, where the Black Eagles had their units in an odd checkerboard formation with two lines, Edelgard was armed with an ax; to the left of her was Bernadetta, armed with a bow. To the right of Edelgard had Linhardt armed with magic. On the second line was Sitri armed with her ax; to the right of Sitri was Casper with gauntlets in hand.
To the Northwest, where the Golden Deer, Claude had his team in an X-formation with Leonie and Jeralt on the front, Claude in the middle, and Marianne and Lysithea. Leonie and Jeralt were armed with lances; Claude is armed with a bow, while Lysitheaand Marianne was armed with Magic.
"Let the Mock Battle begin." Declared Archbishop Rhea.
With Byleth
Byleth was in her room getting ready for the trip. She was going to take with Seteth and Flayn. To her, it is a chance to learn how to control her Dragon form. But she had much doubt about it. Byleth has some terrible fear of that form has. Every time she has transformed into that form, she has lost total control of herself and either injure herself or someone very close to her.
'Why do I have to this? I am terrified of that form. I lost complete control every time I transformed into it. What if I hurt Uncle, Flayn, or Grandma Rhea.' thought Byleth.
In her pack, she was packing the bare minimum she would need for the trip.
'Byleth, you need to go because it's still you at the end of the day. By not going, you will be a Fool. You should never be scared of yourself.' said Sothis in Byleth's. thoughts
'Great, you're talking to me when I am fully awake now, too.' replied Byleth to Sothis
'How rude who would have thought my great-grandchild would treat me in such a way.' said Sothis.
'Anyways, I need to finish packing; I hope we don't get attacked on the way there.' replied Byleth
Back to the Mock Battle
The battle started with Bernadetta moving to the Trees for cover while Linhardt moved to the trees behind her. Edelgard and Sitri moved to form a line to protect Linhardt and Bernadetta, While Casper charged forward with no thought of the consequences and ignoring the orders of Edelgard.
"Great, we're off to a great start," said Edelgard. "Bernadetta Cover Casper."
Meanwhile, with the Golden deer, Claude ordered Leonie and Jeralt to advance. At the same time, Lysithia, Claude, and Marianne take cover in the trees. With the Blue Lions, Dimitri ordered Dedue to take out Casper, while Felix takes out Bernadetta. Dedue charged at Casper, who was running straight at him. Casper then attempted to punch him, but after a very skillful dodge by Dedue, it was met with a swing of the ax to Casper's chest.
"I yield," yelled Casper, which forced him out of the match.
Meanwhile, Felix ran Straight at Bernadetta. Before Bernadetta can fire her bow, she was hit with a couple of swings from Felix's sword, forcing her down and out of the match.
"Great, now we are down to three while the others have five," said Edelgard.
Claude ordered Leonie and Jeralt to advance to the Blue Lions line while Lysithea and Claude cover them from afar. Claude fired an arrow at Mercedes, which took her out of the battle. Then Jeralt's lance meets with Seteth lance. Single-handed combat was now taking place between Seteth and Jeralt. Meanwhile, Leonie went straight for Dimitri. Leonie tried to poke at Dimitri with her Lance, but Dimitri dodged it and hit Leonie in the back of her neck, knocking her out of the match. At this point, Dimitri ran over to where Seteth and Jeralt were fighting. Dimitri swung his lance at the back of Jeralt, taking him out of the match.
"well, things went south for us real quick," said Claude.
"This is a good opportunity for us. Let's forge ahead!" yelled Dimitri 'Seteth, and I will press on the attack into the Golden Deer lines. Dedue and Felix will advance into the Black Eagles lines."
"Are you planning on fighting two houses at once? I will admit, that is favorable for us," said Edelgard
Back with Byleth
Byleth now had her standard armor on and was now finishing packing her bag. When suddenly, her mouth started to bleed, Byleth then opened her mouth to check why it is bleeding, only to find that one of her teeth was loose.
"I thought this happens once grrr why now," said Byleth out loud.
'Because your not a human.' said Sothis
'What does that have to do with anything, Sothis?' asked Byleth
'Because unlike humans who only have two sets of teeth; child teeth and adult teeth. Because you are a Nabatean, you get three sets of teeth child teeth, teen teeth, and adult teeth.' replied Sothis. ' Ahh, my great-grandaughter is growing up.'
'Sothis, I doubt that you're my great-grandmother. Sorry, no offense.' responded Byleth.
Back to the Mock Battle
Meanwhile, back at the Mock battle, Dedue and Felix were Headed straight towards Sitri and Edelgard. With Dedue going for Edelgard and Felix headed towards Sitri. Dedue slammed his ax into Edelgard's ax. Then one on one combat ensured Edelgard eventually was overwhelmed by Dedue knocking her out of the match.
"Forced to retreat; well, things will only get tougher from here on out," said Edelgard.
At the same time, Felix was confronting Sitri in a second one-on-one battle separate from Dedue's one-on-one with Edelgard. However, it was not long before Felix's sword overpowered Sitri's ax.
"Well, I am going to take my leave—no point in fighting a battle when your team already lost," said Sitri.
Meanwhile, Dimitri and Seteth were charging ahead with both their lances at the ready. Claude then Fired an arrow at Seteth, which missed but forced Seteth to run faster. Then Lysithea Fired a weak miasma spell while Marianne fired a nosferatu spell. However, both spells missed their targets. But before they can fire a new spell, Dimitri was within range and took a swipe at Lysithea, knocking her out of the match. At the same time, Seteth took a swipe at Claude, knocking him out of the match.
"I have to settle for cheering the others on," said Claude. "I must have let my guard down. I guess that's a loss for the Golden Deer House."
Dimitri then aimed at Marianne while Dedue, on the other hand, aimed at Linhardt. Both attacks connected, eliminating both of them from the match.
"And the winner is the Blue Lions," said Archbishop Rhea.
Back with Byleth an hour later
"There I am ready. I need to meet Uncle and Flayn at the entrance, then to the Red Canyon we go," said Byleth.
Then there was a knock on the door. To which Byleth opened the door. At the door was Flayn.
"Byleth, are you ready yet," Flayn asked. Then she noticed a patch of Byleth's green blood on the floor and her bed " Byleth, what happened? Why is there blood on the floor and your bed?"
"Loose tooth," Byleth responded.
" Ah, that explains that, but you need clean that before somebody realizes what it is," said Flayn. Who went to Byleths bathroom and came out with a wet napkin " here, let me help you. "
Then with Flayn's help, both Byleth and Flayn cleaned up the room of the blood.
"Now that that is finished, I came to tell you that Dad is here and waiting for you in the front. He asked me to bring you to him, said Flayn.
They both walked towards the monastery entrance to meet with Seteth in front of the monastery.
