I DON'T OWN FREK
AN/ADAM DOESN'T EXIST IN THIS FIC. SORRY BUT NOT SORRY.
CHAPTER 5
When the doors were closed and the Media Mogul was sure that her daughter wasn't listening in on them, she proceeded to carry on with her little 'interview' with Ethan, who was standing by her desk with her family photo. The one that always warmed her heart.
"You've a lovely family, Ms. Grant." He said with honesty.
"It took them a while to call me mama. I didn't expect them to since they both just lost their families."
Ethan walked over near the balcony doors and noticed the air was laced with turmoil and sadness of a previous event. This one was full of pain, anger, and joy all at the same time. He never felt such a strong mix of emotions.
"Something happened in this office. Too many emotions running into each other to decipher exactly what went down." He told the Grant Matriarch.
Cat knew exactly what happened in the spot he's in.
Lillian Luther.
She told him she didn't want to talk about it, to which he understood and left it at that. They sat across from each other on the sofas and talked the job details.
That's when they heard it.
A slap so resounding that might as well shook the whole 40th floor of the very building.
"YOU DON'T GET TO SAY THAT! YOU DON'T GET TO PLAY THE VICTIM!" Shouted a very pissed Kara.
"What's going on?!"
Ethan asked as he and Cat walked out the office. Kara was in tears, James had a huge red handprint on his left side of his cheek.
"Kara, honey, can you tell me what's wrong?" The mother doing her best not to pounce Olsen and force him to snitch on himself.
Her daughters always comes first before anything else.
Kara was having a tough time trying to make words come out. She really didn't want to have to deal with this. She just... needs to get away from James. Anything she does as Supergirl or not as Supergirl, he believes is wrong.
"I'm not my cousin, I'm not cousin, I'm not my cousin, I'm not my cousin." Kara muttered over and over again to herself.
Cat now knew Kara is being overwhelmed by whatever just occurred in the office just now. She immediately wrapped her daughter in her arms while rubbing circles on the girl's back.
She glared hatred towards Olsen.
"Mr. Isely, please escort Olsen out my building." She calmly, as one could be, told Ethan.
"Yes, Miss Grant. Follow me." The hybrid ordered.
James just stood there like a stump with a shocked look on his face. A hand on his left cheek where a sizable red bruising mark is forming, then he stormed off towards the elevators with Ethan in toll.
Ethan was mad at Olsen now because when the elevators closed he pushed him against the wall of the descending elevator. He lifted him up by the scruff of his dress shirt until he was eye level with Ethan.
"This is your one and only warning. Don't ever make Kara breakdown again! Cuz if you do I'll show you what an energy sword will feel!"
With that said, he let James drop and when he did the elevator doors opened, revealing the ground level of the building where security was waiting for them supposedly. A man with with tan skin, brown eyes, and a buzz cut that seemed to have some blonde to it, came up to them.
"We can escort him the rest out, sir." The man says to Ethan.
He nodded as he pressed the 40th floor button and started ascending to the office.
'I think it's time I tell everyone... everything from my past. Kara shouldn't have gone through that. She's too bright and innocent.'
When he got to his destination he noticed that Cat and Kara are sitting on the couch snuggling together. It did not go unnoticed that Kara had fallen asleep in her mother's arms. The mother herself noticed the tall redhead walking towards them.
"How is she?"
Cat smiled a sad smile. Her daughters have been through so much that she knows when they're in another state of mind - for lack of a better phrase.
"Calm, now. Is Olsen out my building?" She asked after making sure her little one was calm.
"He is. I'll make sure he stays in ranks when needed. She looks at peace when asleep."
The mother of three smiled as she looked down at her daughter. She looks calmer now.
"I want you to tell about the war before the fall. I noticed that when you come by the house, incognito if I might add, you always wear your armor like everyday clothes. But, you don't have to." Cat told him.
Ethan internally flinched at that but Cat could see it in his eyes as he went to go sit on the opposite couch. She could tell he was at war with himself and seem to have aged twenty years more. Fighting on whether to tell her or not. She got her answer not long after.
"The first nine years were brutal. We were forced to train our bodies pass the limits of normal people. They knew what I was and used that to their advantage years later in augmentation procedure. The scars on my hands and across my body were from the operations. After everything was injected into us, our training was complete and we put the armor on and went to war with an army called the covenant. War... is a nightmare. It changes you emotionally, and maybe physically if you lose a limb or two. I've spent twenty years fighting it and spent the first ten waiting for my turn to be slaughtered in a war that made no sense to me. I watched the death toll rise wondering how I'm alive. There was no silent nights watching your brothers and sisters all die before your very eyes. Then I met my daughter by choice, and I know I said sister but it was a cover by habit if we're in public. I trained her, raised her basically. Those were some of the good ten years I had for a while. At twenty, Kat lost her right arm on an opt carrying a bomb. Before me, the previous Noble Six took the bomb instead. Blew the biggest covenant ship I seen in a long time. And the rest, I guess, is history."
Ethan decided to let Ms.Grant digest the information. It took a few minutes before she says anything.
"I'm sorry for what you went through and I'm sorry for what you've lost. No one should go through that the way you and the others did."
"Don't be. It is what it is. Even if there's a way to prevent that time in my life I wouldn't change anything. Wouldn't have met you all." Ethan answered Cat.
Cat just nodded understandingly perfectly well.
"It still haunts me, you know. And it wasn't just the program, but the list is just too long to tell in one night."
"Well, I'm glad you came into our lives, Ethan Isely. You've somehow made Kara just a little more happy everyday when she's around you in spite of tonight's event. Thank you."
Ethan gave a warm smile towards Cat, who just smiled back.
"Well, I don't know about you but I'm going to put this little Kryptonian into her bed at my house. Care to help carry her?"
Sorry for late update. And how short this is.
Everybody here who watches Supergirl is excited for season 6 but I've bad news.
They cancelled it until mid May.
If they kill Kara in the last season I'm going to cry and ask why. And rewrite it.
Anyways, this is an on going series. The fic anyways. So, many things will be different from the show.
