Chapter 5 – Two fools

Bardock arrived at the army base medical center with an unconscious Gine in his arms. "Do your damn job doctors" growled Bardock. Without a word spoken she was placed in a machine, liquid filled the tank. Bardock put his hand against the glass, watching the woman he had just saved.

Behind him a figure appeared a heavy voice addressed Bardock "she's not in the army anymore, why is she here?" Bardock turned around and looked at the general. "Because she was injured while protecting the district outside the base. Something we as a Saiyan army have failed at". He looked furiously at the general.

The general stood next to Bardock with his hands behind his back "I have no orders to intervene outside the base. The riots are not my problem. We are to fight for king Cold, we are not police. This girl needs to get out of here, now!" The General walked away but not before Bardock addressed him "Gine leave the tank on doctors' orders, not yours."

The older man turned to the captain, he saw the seriousness on Bardock`s face. He sighed "out of respect for your work, the girl gets until the end of the night. After that she is gone" End of the night, that was too short, but Bardock knew that Gine was strong enough to heal herself after that. She wasn't a warrior, but she was definitely a fighter.

The end of the night was only six hours; by now it was already midnight. Bardock felt helpless. If he had not let her go now, he could have protected her. Well, he hated to babysit her on every mission, and she was no warrior. But this, here now it was worse! He blamed himself.

Six hours later, the liquid was draining from the tank. A still a weakened Gine stepped out. Sleepily she looked around and then saw her Bardock standing there. He lifted her out of the tank, she felt ashamed and again she was not strong enough. Only then did she realize where she was. "Am I back in the army base? But how? Why?"

Bardock wrapped a blanket around her and smiled weakly "how do you feel?" Gine looked up "I've had better days, is Bertha safe?" Gine`s face turned to alarmed. Bardock scooped her up "Taro and Fasha have gone to the neighborhood; they were given the order by me to teach some troublemakers a lesson. Something they seemed to find amusing".

Ten minutes later they arrived at Bardock's apartment. Gine still safely in his arms "Gine I have to put you down for a moment or I won't be able to open the door". Her bare feet touched the cold concrete floor in front of the door. She shook for a moment due to the sudden cold. Bardock pushed the door open and Gine walked in.

It was a typical men's apartment. Boring and cluttered. "You need to get some rest, you've been in the tank too short of time. Here follow me" Gine grabbed Bardock's hand; he looked at her for a moment. They walked into his bedroom "Sorry, I hadn't made the bed I um". Gine began to giggle "that doesn't matter"

Together they sat down on the bed "you must rest Gine" spoke Bardock commandingly. Gine squeezed his hand for a moment "thank you" she whispered. "But uhm when you arrived last night to be my hero, you said my girl. What did you mean by my girl?" Bardock blushed for the first time in his life.

Bardock looked at the woman next to him, who had a shy sweet smile on her face. Her eyes twinkled, did she like this? His hand placed on her cheek, he brought his head to hers. The next afternoon Bardock sat in his strategy room, because he had gone against the general he was forced to help with the ceremony of the coronation of the new king. He hoped that the new king would at least be a better leader than his father was. Bardock was interrupted by a knock at the door.

Bardock stood up "who's there?" On the other side stood a small woman who called aloud "your girl". The door opened and Bardock had an amusing smile on his face "you enjoyed that didn't you?" Gine walked over to the table and set down a lunchbox. She looked mischievously at Bardock "of course"

Gine jumped off the table while Bardock rolled his eyes. She grabbed his hand for a moment "I'm going to take a look at that cottage Bertha had seen, I'll see you tonight?" Bardock squeezed her hand for a moment "Of course, can't wait to taste your stew again." Gine had a big grin on her face.

"Stew, I want to taste that too?" Said Taro still. Now he received a slap to the back of the head from his friend. "I'm the only one who eats her stew understand! That's my girl". Then Taro suddenly understood. Gine walked out the door, as she looked back she got a mischievous wink from her guy. Happily she went to the cottage, where they might have their future adventures together!
