Buck was seated in the tub in his bathroom, Eddie had prepared it for him and helped him to undress and get in, God how embarrassing to have his best friend undress him and help him into the tub like he was some toddler, and why was Eddie so nice to him? Why were they even in his apartment and not out wandering the streets searching for Chris? How did they even get to his apartment? His head was hurting like crazy, everything was getting fuzzy and blurry.
Buck contemplated the idea of just stopping, stop searching, stop wandering, stop being. It would be so easy to just disappear now, to just give in to his aching body and stop, but he had to find Christopher; He had to find Christopher and then he could disappear, after today no one was probably going to miss him, maybe Maddie would but she had Chimney now, she didn't need him to be around any longer. Finding Christopher that was the only thing that was important at the moment, so he continued.
Eddie stepped back into the bathroom with some clean pyjamas for Buck to wear when he was done in the tub, when he got in he saw Buck submerged and unconscious it seemed, he cursed under his breath, dropped the clothes on the floor and ran to Buck, dragging him out of the tub and placing him on the floor. Once Buck was flat on his back Eddie tilted Buck's head backwards to open up his airways before lowering his ear to just above Buck's nose and mouth, listening for a breathing and looking down at his chest to check whether it was rising and falling accordingly, no breathing. Eddie found his phone and dialed 9-1-1 while he started CPR on Buck.
Some of the streets were still flooded with water, but Buck fought his way through them even though his entire body was fighting him, he had to find Christopher. At one point he fell, getting submerged under the water again, he hadn't got the will or the energy to get back up, but somehow he found the strength to turn around, he was gasping for air when he heard movement in the water and then someone yelling: "We got a live one over here" and then someone was grabbing a hold of him, shaking him; "Hey, hey man can you hear me?", he wanted to answer the guy, but he hadn't got the energy left, instead he just opened his eyes and nodded his head. "Do you think you can walk? It won't be far just 2 more blocks to the VA hospital" Buck didn't have the strength to nod, but one thought of Christopher had him up on his feet again, mindlessly following the rescue worker.
"Adult male, 28 years old, was found unconscious in the bathtub. Not breathing at first, but after some CPR he started breathing and coughed up a lot of water. He was in the tsunami yesterday, minor lacerations to his head and upper body and one bad cut on his arm which got stitches, also severe dehydration, exhaustion and a concussion from the tsunami. Suspected of not having slept at all since being dropped off by his sister sometime late last night. also he is on blood thinners" Eddie hurriedly explained to the paramedic that had been dispatched to the scene.
"Thank you we got it from here" the paramedic answered and started to get to work on Buck.
"I'll just fedge some things for him, for the hospital, some clothes and stuff, I'll follow you there" Eddie said, end of discussion like. The paramedic just nodded and continued working on Buck. True to his words Eddie, in his own car, followed the ambulance to the hospital after gathering the stuff Buck would need when he woke up; 'If he wakes up' his thoughts told him, but Eddie just pushed that thought away, he was going to wake up, he was sure of that.
