Chapter 4- The Warehouse
Billy drives the Humvee down the road with Daniel in the passenger seat directing him towards the warehouse. Daniel glances at Billy and back at the map. "How many before?" Daniel asks him. Billy looks at the man. "How many people have you killed? That wasn't your first. You didn't hesitate most people do,"
"You didn't either, Daniel," Billy says.
"I have killed many people before this. You are young so how many?" Daniel asks again.
"One besides Liza," Billy tells him. "It's the only secret I have ever kept from my father,"
"Why?" Daniel asks.
"You tell me something personal about you, and I'll talk," Billy says to the man who looks away from him.
"Turn left," Daniel says. He turns and looks at Ofelia. "When we get there you will use the mounted guns. The rest of you will stay in here and let us clear this place out. This is supposed to be a clean up crew, so there shouldn't be too many," Billy opens the duffle bag beside him.
"Make sure the guns are loaded," Billy tells the man who nods.
"I'm going with you guys," Westley says.
"No you're not," Daniel says. "I'm not trusting you there. There is a difference when killing the dead and killing people. I don't even like Ofelia on that gun, but she will do what needs to be done."
"You don't know me well enough to judge," Westley states.
"The gunfire will attract the dead. Worry about them let us deal with the army," Billy says.
"It beats sitting here," Westley replies. He looks at Chris and Nick. "You two, come with me," he says.
"I don't want to!" Chris hisses.
"He'll stay inside where it's safe," Travis states.
"I'll go with you when we get there," Nick says.
"Me too," Kyra says. Daniel looks at Ofelia.
"After we gun down the ones in the front. Stay here with Madison, Alicia, and Strand and clear the dead," Daniel says. Ofelia nods.
The group arrives at the warehouse. They see five soldiers along with two Humvees.
"What's going on? Nobody else is supposed to be here!" A soldier shouts, his gun lowered.
"Ofelia now," Daniel says. Ofelia climbs into the gunner seat and opens fire on the five men taking them all to the ground. They lay on the ground blood coming from their wounds. Billy and Daniel grab their guns.
"Does everybody know the plan?" Billy asks.
"Yeah, we'll kill the infected that come," Westley replies as he gets out, followed by Nick and Kyra. Also, I call one of those Humvees," he says.
"We'll decide that later," Billy says as he gets out of the car with Daniel. He looks at Alicia, Madison, Strand and Ofelia. "If it gets bad and we go down. Get out of here," They nod as Billy and Daniel head to the warehouse. Billy and Daniel head into the warehouse slowly. Daniel shoots the first man in the head as they come towards them. They both get into cover as the men start to shoot at them. Daniel pulls out a grenade. "Where the hell did you get that?"
"Off the men we killed on the road," Daniel says as he pulls the pin and throws it.
"Grenade!" One of the men yells before the bomb goes off. They hear screaming and move out of cover. Billy shoots the man left standing in the eye making the man go to the ground dead. The two men move together watching each other back. Daniel shoots a man on the ground as he tries to stand. They look at the dead men on the ground and slowly lower their guns when nobody else comes out. Billy looks at the other men and starts to shoot them in the head. Daniel shoots the last one.
"We'll burn their bodies. We can stay here for a day at least to get some rest," Billy says. Daniel nods as they start to look around. Billy walks over to a mounted gun and pulls the barrel out of it. "What is that for?"
"We need weapons. I can sharpen this here, and it will work fine," Billy says. Daniel nods as they continue to look. Billy opens a door and looks inside. "Daniel," Daniel comes over and they both look at the five of the dead in a cage. A man in a white coat holds a gun to them.
"You killed them all," The man says. "Drop the guns," The both drop their gun. "Handguns too," Billy puts his colt on the ground and kicks it over to the man as the man aims his gun at them. "Get on your knees," They nod as they get on their knees. "Hands behind your back," They put their hands behind their backs. Billy reaches for the handgun on his ankle. Daniel sees what he is doing.
"Why are the dead locked up?" Daniel asks.
"We are trying to find a cure. They only wanted one man here," The man says as Billy grabs the grip.
"Have you found anything?" Daniel asks.
"No," The man says as Billy gets the gun behind his back. He makes sure the man was focused on Daniel. He brings his arm around and shoots the man in the throat. His eyes widen as he falls to his knees. Billy shoots the man in the head. He falls to the ground dead. Billy and Daniel stand up and grab their weapons as the dead start to bite at them from the cages.
"Come on," Daniel says as he leaves the room. Billy follows him and shuts the door. Billy and Daniel start to loot the bodies. Billy pulls out a map. "Another one," Billy opens the map and looks at it.
"There is A, B, and C," Billy says.
"Where are we?" Daniel asks.
"Point C. They have two more closer to the city. This one was the furthest out," Billy says. "Let's go talk to the others," Billy and Daniel walk outside.
Westley walks over to the five dead soldiers. He searches the first one, he grabs the M4 Carbine the soldier was carrying. He sets it down and continues searching. He grabs the soldier's combat knife. The knife was sheafed. He straps the sheafed knife onto his left thigh. He starts to hear gunshots from the warehouse.
Kyra starts to film as Westley continues searching the bodies. He finally finds the keys to one of the Humvees. He puts the keys in his pocket and looks around, the three start to see movement.
"Infected, three of them," Kyra informs. Kyra points the camera at the three dead.
Nick tightens his grip on his fire axe and moves closer to them. Westley follows Nick. Westley swings the machete, cutting one of the dead's skull in half.
Nick swings down hitting the second dead's skull. The head of the axe gets stuck on top of the skull. Nick struggles to pull it out, he lets's go of the axe causing the dead to fall on the ground. The third dead grabs a hold of Nick's right arm. Westley rushes over and pierces the blade of the machete through the dead's forehead.
The dead let's go of nick and falls to the ground. "Are you alright?" Westley asks.
"Yeah, thanks. The axe got stuck," Nick replies. Grabs the handle of the axe and rips the axe blade out of the dead's skull.
"Three Infected!" Kyra alerts.
Two of the infected are women while the other one is a heavyset man. The man's intestines are hanging out and his skin is gray. The two women had bits all over their bodies. One of them is missing an eye.
Kyra motions Westley over. He grabs the camera that Kyra had turned off and puts it in her backpack. Kyra grabs her knife as the three walk over to the three Infected. Kyra stabs the side of the skull of one of the women. She pulls the knife out as Westley and Nick kill the other two infected.
The three hear a growl, they look in the direction of the growl. An infected soldier was slowly walking towards them. The soldier was wearing a gas mask and camouflage pants and shirt. The soldier had a large chunk missing from the side of his neck and left shoulder. Has a large Combat knife sticking out of his right thigh. He has bullet holes all over his stomach and his ribs.
Westley runs over to the infected soldier and swings his machete, cutting the soldier's head off. The head and body falls to the ground. He could still hear hisses and growls from the head of the soldier. Westley swings down, stabbing the head. The hisses stop. Along with the growls.
Nick and Kyra walk over to the decapitated, Infected soldier. "There are too many of them! The city has been bombed we need to get out of here now!" they hear a woman's voice from the walkie-talkie on the soldier body.
"Roger that, we just killed a family of five. We will meet up in point A in about twenty minutes," a man's voice replies from the Walkie-talkie.
Westley looks at Nick and Kyra, "We don't have a lot of time. They need to hurry," he tells them.
"We don't know where point A is, it could be anywhere," Kyra replies.
Nick looks at Kyra, "It could also be here. They have supplies here for a reason," he says.
Billy and Daniel walk outside and see the walkers on the ground. "We're cleared in there. We'll have to move their bodies," Billy says as he walks up to them.
Westley looks at Billy, "We might not have a lot of time. If this is point A then we only have less than twenty minutes," he says.
"It's point C," Billy tells him. "Point A and B are closer to the city,"
Westley nods. He walks over to the M4 and picks it up with his free hand. The gun is heavy. Westley looks at the other four dead soldiers, "Those four have the same gun as this one," he states.
Kyra sheafs her knife and grabs the gun from Westley, "Do you want me to carry this?" she asks.
Westley shakes his head, "No, you are already carrying a shotgun and our camera." He looks at the other Humvee, "Follow me," he says before walking over to the other two Humvees.
Westley opens the driver side door and leans in. He fits the key into the keyhole and turns it. The Humvee starts. He gets out and smiles, "Right key," he says to Kyra. Alicia, Madison, Strand, and Ofelia get out of the other Humvee and come over.
"We will be staying here the rest of the night and tomorrow for a little while so everybody can rest," Billy says.
Westley gestures for Kyra to put the gun in the car. "There is plenty of supplies inside. Go eat and get some sleep," Billy tells them. The others nod as they go inside. Daniel claps his shoulder before he follows. Billy looks at Westley and Kyra. "You two going in?"
Westley looks at Kyra and then at Billy, "No, I'm going to stay here." Westley looks at Kyra, "You should go Inside. Get something to eat," he tells her.
Kyra looks at Westley, "What about you?" she asks.
"Just save me a spot," Westley hands Kyra his machete, "Head inside."
Kyra shrugs, "Alright," she sighs and heads inside the warehouse. Billy walks to the Humvee and pulls out his bag. He walks back to the warehouse and sits down outside.
Westley walks to the Humvee where Kyra left her shotgun and where he left the bag of food and water. He grabs the bag and walks over to Billy. Westley sits down next to him.
"Get something to eat. I'll keep watch," Billy says.
"No, I'm okay. I'll eat later," Westley replies. He looks at the Humvee, "We should leave early tomorrow. We could travel further," he says.
"People need rest. After the day we've had for sure. I want to leave by noon. It will be done in 4 to five hours. They need their rest and so do you," Billy says.
"I'll be fine. I can't sleep much anyways. Kyra could probably use the rest though," Westley responds.
"If you plan on driving that thing we don't want you falling asleep at the wheel," Billy says.
"Yeah, that's true," Westley says. He looks back at the warehouse, "I'll find a spot I guess," he says.
Westley gets up and walks into the warehouse.
