CHAPTER 5: ABOUT CLAUDETTE AND JOSIE
While Charlie Brown was getting to know his new friends, Snoopy was learning all about the cute beagle next door, Claudette. He was wanting to get to know her and she him. They were hitting it off pretty well and she couldn't wait to meet Woodstock once he would arrive. Charlie Brown and his friends came outside to see Snoopy. They saw him and Claudette together.
"Snoopy," said Charlie Brown, "I see you made a new friend yourself. Who is she?"
"Her name is Claudette," a voice chimed in. A girl with scraggly blonde hair walked up to the group. "You must be our new neighbors. My name is Josie. What's yours?"
"I'm Charlie Brown," the round-headed boy said. "This is my dog, Snoopy. Looks like yours is a beagle, as well."
"She is," said Josie. "It looks like our dogs get along pretty well."
"Oh, you may already know these kids," Charlie Brown replied. "This is Tyler, Marcus, and Abigail. And Charlotte Braun here, I already knew her from my old town."
"Yeah, we all go to the same school together," Josie responded.
"How are you, Josie?" asked Tyler.
"Good, Ty," said Josie, who obviously had a crush on the red-headed boy.
"We were getting to know your new neighbor here, Josie," said Abigail, holding Charlie Brown's hand. "He is a very sweet boy."
"Well I look forward to meeting you some more, Charlie," said Josie. "Right now it's time for dinner and I need to feed Claudette. Come on, girl, let's go home."
"I'll see you later, Snoopy," said Claudette through her thoughts. "I'll come back over tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, Claudette," said Snoopy, smiling. After Josie and Claudette left, Charlie Brown introduced Snoopy to his new friends.
"Well, Snoopy, you remember Charlotte from Sparkyville," he began. "She's the only one from out old town that's here. This is Tyler, Marcus, and Abigail. You'll be seeing a lot of them here. This is my dog, Snoopy. As you will see, he's kind of different from other dogs."
"He speaks the truth," added Charlotte. "I know firsthand how weird Snoopy gets."
And, right on cue, Snoopy shook the hands of the boys and kissed the girls on their cheeks. They didn't freak out like a certain raven-haired crabby fussbudget would've done, but Charlotte wiped it off going "Bleah!" and Abigail giggled a bit.
"Your dog is a lady killer, Charles," said Abigail. "He's cute like his owner." She gave another kiss to Charlie Brown on his cheek, making him blush again.
"Well we better head home, ourselves," said Marcus. "I have homework to do."
"So do I," added Tyler. "We'll see you at school, Charlie."
"See you later, Charles," said Marcus.
"See you tomorrow, Charlie Brown," said Charlotte.
"Bye, sweetie," cooed Abigail, blowing a kiss to Charlie Brown.
"See you guys," said Charlie Brown, waving at them. Abigail winked at him before leaving. Charlie Brown sighed with love. Snoopy took notice and gave him a playful elbow.
"Looks like we've both found new loves, ol' pal," said Charlie Brown to his dog. Snoopy nodded in agreement. "Well I need to fix your supper and get my homework done, as well." And Charlie Brown grabbed Snoopy's supper dish and went to get his meal prepared. Charlie Brown was happy that he was making new friends, and, in the case of Charlotte, reuniting with old friends, as well. Kansas City was a sharp contrast to his old town, for sure.
