March 11th 2012 Mission Creek High School (Maddie's POV)-

Adam, Chase, and I were in the hallway before class on Monday by our lockers. The hallway was covered with posters and banners for the upcoming dance when Leo came up to us.

"Guys, with the dance coming up, I thought you could use a lesson on how to ask a lady out." Leo said smugly. With no actual success in the subject this should be a train wreck.

"Oh, great. Do you know a guy who can teach us?" Adam mocked.

"Me! You're gonna watch me ask out the girl of my dreams: Danielle." Leo answered. Danielle? She's a senior and class treasurer. I don't know her well but I do know that she wouldn't even give Leo a pity date.

"Danielle? Isn't she the girl who uses you as a footstool in math class?" Chase mused.

"Where else is she supposed to put her feet-- on the floor?! Open your notebooks, boys, 'cause class is in session." Leo made his way over to Danielle as we watched his impending doom.

"Hello, Danielle. Do you know how much a polar bear weighs? Enough to break the ice. I'm Leo Dooley." Leo started. I tried to hide my laugh behind my hand. That was a bad start.

"Didn't you send me 87 e-mails?" She questioned. Eighty seven? Dang Leo.

"Yeah... That was a slow day." He said with a look of pride. Creepy.

"Okay, well, see you later, Lenny." She said walking away.

"It's Leo, by the way." He mumbled after her.

"So, Leo... What should I write down in my notebook? I mean, other than "denied"." Chase asked, mocking Leo and I was hardly able to hold back my laugh.

"No, no, no, you can cheat off of me. I have, "She's not going to the dance with Lenny."" Adam said as Bree came up to us.

"Are you guys talking about the dance too? Why is everybody making such a big deal out of this stupid dance?" Bree whined.

"Nobody's asked you yet, have they?" I asked knowing Bree well enough to know that She'd be focused on getting a date to the dance.

"No! I really wanna go with that guy. His name is Ethan. We sit next to each other in chemistry. Coincidence? I think not. Chemistry! What should I do?" She whined.

"I got this." Chase moved to enhance his bionic hearing and zeroed in on Ethan's conversation. "He's talking about a girl he thinks is cute." He explained.

"Yeah, Bree's cute and I really like her, but... I don't know how to ask her out, you know?" I listened into Ethan with Chase as he grimaced.

"Ew! He's talking about you!" Chase said disgusted.

"He's coming over here right now to ask you to the dance." I answered while hitting Chase over the back of the head.

"What?! No! Now? Why? Really?" Bree panicked as Ethan walked over.

"How's it going?" Ethan asked our group.

"Ethan! What a huge surprise! To see you here, for reasons we do not know." For a Secret bionic soldier and genius he wasn't great at lying under pressure.

"Hey, Ethan. How... uh, you know.. we... uh, you know... decided... What is that over there?" Bree asked as she pointed in another direction and super speeds away.

"Where'd she go?" Ethan asked as he turned back around.

"Uh, more importantly, what is that over there?" Adam asked again. When Adam points in another direction and he, Chase, and Leo run away.

"How'd you fall for that twice?" I asked, the left walking to my next class.

Tompkins House (Maddie's POV)-

After school Bree wanted some girl time so the two of us decided to go back to my house. Honestly I'm pretty sure the guys were planning some stupid scheme so I was happy to spend some time away from them with Bree.

"I don't know what to do." Bree said sadly. "I really like Ethan but every time he comes to talk to me I panic. I really want him to like me but I don't want to sound stupid." Bree explained.

"I don't get why you just don't ask him yourself? If he likes you, which we all know he does, you know he'll say yes." I asked as we were walking up the driveway. I pulled my keys walking to the door. "You don't need to get so worried over this it's just a dance. If worse comes to worse, come with me. I don't want a date, it's more fun to go with friends." I opened the door for us to walk in.

"You aren't gonna ask Chase?" Bree asked.

"Why would I ask Chase?" To be honest I had thought about it. After last week with him, Spike, and the kiss we hadn't really talked.

"Why? Because you two are perfect for each other!" She said like it was obvious.

"What's with you and my love life?" I asked as we headed up the stairs to my room.

"Are you kidding?" She asked following me into my room, "Your love-life is like a movie." as she fell onto my bed.

"I don't know what to say to that." I said sitting down next to her with my back against the headboard.

"Oh my gosh!" She sprang up off the bed, "I need a dress! I didn't even think about it. I've never needed one before." I gave her a quick once over.

"You look about my size. Come on." I said, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to my closet. "I might have something for you."

March 12th Mission Creek High School (Leo's POV)-

"No, no, no. He's fine." I stopped the students walking by from helping Adam up.

"No, no, no, I'm good." He said from underneath the wall of lockers.

"He's great." I added as they gave me a look.

"Thank you!" He called after them.

"Yeah, no I'm not even gonna ask. But when is all this gonna be done so I can get to my locker?" Maddie asked me as she walked over.

"Ooh! They're coming! Commence phase one of Operation Lady For Leo." Chase said running back over.

"Operation: Lady for Leo." Maddie snorted, Chase sent a glare her way.

"Oh, no! This man is trapped! He looks like he need a hero to save him. I will take charge and heroically do just that!" I said loud enough to pull Danielle towards us. I was nailing it.

"Oh, no! We're running out of time. Save me before the alligator comes--" Adam started. Already forgetting the plan.

"Wrong rescue!" I whisper-yelled to Adam. "I will lift these lockers! One...two...three! So heavy!" I faked pulling the lockers off of Adam as he not so discreetly pushed them off him.

"You're a true heroic take-charge hero!" Adam said stalely.

"Oh, my gosh! I can't believe that just happened!" Danielle said. The plan was working.

"You know, it takes a big man to do something like--" I was saying as Danielle walked past me to Adam.

"How are you not hurt? You must be so strong." She said to Adam.

"Wait. What? No! He's not the strong one; I'm the strong one! Hero!"

"Maybe I should walk you to the nurses' office." She kept ignoring me.

"W-What about Leo?" Adam tried.

"He's not hurt."

"Look at me! I'm an open wound!" This wasn't fair! She said she wanted a hero. I am a hero Adam just layed under some lockers. They ignored me.

"Really, I-I'm fine." Adam said, stepping away from her.

"Okay, good, 'cause the dance is Saturday, and I love dancing. Maybe we can hang out." Danielle commented before walking away.

"Great plan, Chase." I said turning to Chase, "and thanks for the support Maddie." She just kept snickering.

"What are you talking about? That didn't go at all like we thought it would!" Adam said, still confused.

Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-

After school I went down to Davenport's Lab to finish some more of the work I had yet to complete for that week. Bree stayed upstairs to do homework when Adam, Chase, and Leo came into the lab. I was really trying to ignore them so I just raise the volume on my head phones and continued to look for possible vulnerabilities in the new designs Mr. Davenport had written up.

"You stole my woman! Where I call from, we call that a love crime." Leo whined as the three entered the lab.

"It's not my fault I look brave under lockers. I was trying to help you." Adam said.

"How? By saying you'd go to the dance with her?" Leo wouldn't let it go.

"I'm keeping my options open. It's the first time a girl's ever been interested in me, and it's kind of nice." Adam was right, they had only been out of the lab for a couple weeks

"Ooh! It's kind of nice 'cause she has--" Leo screamed and jumps Adam, who is completely unaffected.

"Stop it, little man! You're gonna hurt yourself!" He warned without bothering to push Leo off him.

"Hey, Hey, Hey! No! Hey! Guys, this is getting out of hand. It's like watching a chihuahua fight a horse. Is Danielle really worth all of this?" Chase asked while separating the two.

"Yes!" They agreed.

"Adam, you cannot go to the dance with Danielle. It wouldn't be fair-- Leo wanted her first!" Chase explained. Did he really just say because he wanted her first?

"You know she gets to have an opinion in this too, right? She picked Adam so you two should be happy for him and let it go." I reasoned, finally joining the conversation but not looking up from my work.

"It's too late. The damage is done. I'll never love again." Leo responded brushing off what I said.

"Leo, I'll talk to Danielle. I'll convince her that Adam's not an option and that she should be with you." Chase continued to support his younger brother.

"Yeah, go to the dance with her, but everybody's gonna think you're dating your babysitter." Adam taunted. Leo screams and lunges for Adam. Chase holds him back.

March 13th Mission Creek High School (Maddie's POV)-

"What is it gonna take for you to ask Ethan to the dance?" I asked Bree as she was putting what she didn't need in her locker.

"I don't know. Isn't kind of weird for the girl to ask the guy. I mean I don't see you doing it." She said grabbing a book.

Before I could answer her, Dylan from my english class came walking over.

"Hey Maddie, I was wondering if you didn't already have a date for the dance, would you want to come with me?" He asked almost shaking where he stood. I was sweet but I wasn't very interested.

"Aww that's sweet of you Dylan. I'm sorry but I'm already planning on going with my friends but I'm sure there's a girl out there for you. See you in class." I gave him a friendly punch on the shoulder as he gave me a sad smile. Then Bree shut her lock and we walked away.

"See you're even turning guys down. You can't tell me to ask a guy if you don't do it yourself." She responded smartly.

"So you're saying if I ask a guy to the dance you'll ask Ethan? That's it?" I asked, still not believing.

"No, I'm saying if you ask the guy you like to the dance I will ask Ethan."

"But I don't like any-" I started confused, cause I hadn't told anyone. Then I stopped stuck in my tracks. "Crap." I said dryly.

"Exactly. So if you can find it in you to ask Mr. Know-it-all then I'll ask Ethan." She explained.

"Well, if it isn't little miss flash and scram." Chase said to Bree as the two of us walked over.

"Ha ha. Very funny. I think I scared Ethan off." Bree responded dryly.

"What am I chopped liver?" I added to get some acknowledgement.

"Yeah Hi," Leo said moving on "Ya think? You left skid marks in the hallway." He said to Bree.

"Well, I think there's only one way to fix this-- you have to ask him to the dance." I said to Bree once again.

"Yeah, you're right but don't you have something you want to say first?" She questioned with a knowing grin. She thought I wouldn't do it.

"Oh yeah." I added in fake realization playing it up for her. "Chase? You want to go to the dance with me?" I watched as his face paled and he froze. Adam woke Chase from his daze with a hit to his shoulder.

"Uh- um- Yeah. Yeah, I'd love- I mean I'd like that." He responded I smiled at him.

"Your turn." I said to Bree.

"Fine, I'll do it." She added reluctantly.

"Well, here's your chance-- He's at his locker." I said, gesturing behind her.

"Uh, hey, Ethan, could I talk to you for a second." Bree said walking up to him. "Oh, no." she exclaimed, getting nervous.

"I've got to make it quick 'cause I'm on my way to--" He started before she ran away. "Bree?" He asked.

"Over here." She said from the top of the lockers, somehow.

"But... you were... Okay, why are you up there?" He asked, more confused.

"You know, just... helping out the janitor. I mean, this place is "dust-ay!"" She said. What was that?

Davenport House (Maddie's POV)-

"Hey, Bree, Maddie, how's it going?" Tasha asked as we walked in after school.

"Horrible. Ethan was gonna ask me to the dance, but I got nervous and ran away. Every time I see him, I panic and act like a total..." She trailed off looking for a word.

"Idiot?" I supplied.

"Huge Idiot." She agreed.

"Look, you are not the first girl to act weird around a boy she likes." Tasha added.

"Maddie was fine, I was the one who flew across the room and jumped on top of the lockers." Bree explained.

"Yeah... that's probably a first." Tasha said grimacing.

"Whenever he's around, I get all flustered and glitchy, and I just want to eat my face so I don't say something stupid." Bree whined.

"Yeah it's kinda fun to watch." I added receiving a glare from both of them.

"Honey, next time you see him, just breathe! Stay in the moment, and your jitters will go away. Or just wear high heels. That way, when you run away, you'll wipe out like a downhill skier." Tasha advised getting a snack for Bree as I left for the lab.

Davenport House (Leo's POV)-

"How could you swipe Danielle away from both of us? I thought you were going with Maddie?" Adam asked as we came into the living room.

"I didn't swipe her away, okay? When I went to talk to her she thought I was sweet and asked me to go. Maddie's cool, she'll be fine with it." Chase said shrugging it off.

"She'll be fine with it? Have you met Maddie?" I asked the guy that has a death wish.

"Look, I didn't mean for this to happen." Chase explained.

"Oh, so you're not taking her to the dance?" Adam asked.

"Of course I'm taking her to the dance. She's like a cottony-white lamb who frolics in a--" He started dreamily.

"We get it!" We interrupted.

"I may not know any dance moves, but a girl is interested in me for the first time ever. How can I say no to that?" He supplied.

"First girl interested in you? Wake up dude!" Adam said smacking Chase over the back of his head. "Maddie is interested in you. She asked you to the dance! How can you be this smart and dumb at the same time? You and Maddie have liked each other for years but you haven't done anything." Adam exclaimed leaving the living room.

Chase paled at the situation thinking over his brother's words. I followed Adam out.

March 16th MCHS Gym (No one's POV)-

"Aww, where's Danielle? She dump you already?" Adam asked dryly. Still angry at his brother.

"No. She's in the bathroom." Chase answered, still looking for Maddie.

"Ah. She's probably climbing out of the window to get away from you." Adam smiled.

At that moment Bree and Maddie entered. Bree enters in a dress with an electric blue skirt and grey short sleeve top, also wearing giant heels that she could barely walk in. Maddie came in next to her in a gorgeous navy blue sundress with white flowers and black heeled combat boots.

"Hello, boys." Bree said.

"Hey Adam, hey Leo." Maddie was still mad at Chase after he stood her up, he told her a day after Adam talked to Chase. He had told her that he wanted to go with Danielle and that he only stood her up because he thought they were going as friends anyway.

"Okay, if you're gonna dance in those shoes, I suggest wearing a helmet." Leo said snickering at Bree's clumsiness.

"Hey, Bree. Wow, you look great. You okay?" Ethan commented as he walked up.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just... groovin' to the beat." She said awkwardly.

"Cool. Let's dance." He offered her his hand.

"Um... I don't know how." She answered reluctantly.

"Come on, it's easy. You just kind of move a little and spin around the dance floor." Ethan said guiding her to the dance floor. Ethan holds onto both of Bree's hands, then twirls her around once.

"Now you try." He said letting her lead.

"Okay. Move a little, and... spin around the dance floor." She started by moving slowly and dancing well but then glitched and super spun Ethan around the room then out into the hall.

"Okay, what is going on? First you run away from me, then you jump on top of the lockers, and then you trap me into a dance cyclone." He questioned.

"I'm sorry. I'm just... really nervous 'cause... I kind of like you." Bree said honestly.

"Well, I like you too. You know how long it took me to build the courage to walk over here and ask you to dance? I had to practice with my mom." He revealed.

"Did she at least say yes?" Bree teased.

"Yeah. We're going bowling Friday night." He joked.

"So, you want to try that dance thing again?" She offered.

"Yeah, but let's wait a couple of minutes. I'm still nauseous from the last one." He said guiding her back to the dance floor, hand and hand.

...

"There you are. Wanna dance?" Danielle asked Chase

"Actually, I can't dance with you Danielle. I'm sorry but there's a girl here that I hurt and I need to apologize." Chase explained. He stood up and spotted Maddie with her friend. "Maddie! Maddie can we talk?" He said, trying to get her attention.

"What do you want Chase?" She asked dryly, turning from her friends.

"Can we talk? In private?" He gestured to the gym door that led to the hallway. She nodded and followed him to the hallway.

(Maddie's POV)-

"So did you come to stand me up again, or did you find something else to be a jerk about?" I wasn't the happiest.

"Madds, I'm sorry. I'm a huge idiot and I don't deserve your forgiveness."

"Good start, keep going." I said guiding him.

"When you asked me to the dance I thought it had to be as friends cause I didn't think you would like me any other way. So when Danielle asked I took the chance. I really like you Maddie and I didn't want to lose you by doing something stupid and that's exactly what I did." I was nodding along as he spoke. Not giving away any sign of my thoughts. I could see him become more and more nervous.

"I mean I do really like you but if you don't like me it's ok. But I would like to date you if you're ok with that and if not I'll-" I had tried calling his name to stop him but he was so far in his own head he couldn't hear me. Then before I even knew what I was doing my lips were on his. I was on my toes cause even in heels I only reach his chin.

He was shocked at first but soon melted into the kiss. It wasn't a magical romantic movie kiss but it was perfect for us. Our noses hit each other at first but we shifted to be more comfortable. His lips were soft and his hands found my waist as my hands sat on his chest. After about three seconds I pulled away leaving our foreheads against each other.

"It's okay." I whispered. I pulled him into a hug with my head against his chest and he began to relax. "And for the record, I like you too." I said as I pulled away playing with my hands avoiding his eyes completely.

Chase stepped forward and lifted my chin up softly. Making me look into his deep hazel eyes.

"Well then with all this information we've gathered I suggest that there is only one path of examination." He said with confidence not bothering to hide his smile.

"And what may that be Mr. Davenport?" I followed along.

"Will you go out with me Ms. Tompkins?" I could hardly hold myself back from jumping up and down.

"Why of course, Mr. Davenport." Our smiles are so big you would've thought that they hurt. "But what about Adam, Bree, and Leo." I said slipping out of our act. "If we start dating they'll never leave us alone." I brought up beginning to play with his hands.

"We don't have to tell them right away, we can let it be just our thing for a bit and if they do find out it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world." He answered coolly. I nodded in agreement as Danielle ran towards the door of the gym.

"Oh, come on! I haven't even swung you around by your feet yet!" I heard Adam yell after her.

Chase and I walked back into the gym as the lights dim, music changes, and Leo comes into the room with backup dancers.

"Cue it up, G!" Leo commanded the DJ.

The music started and Leo and his backup dancers performed a choreographed dance. I was actually pretty good and Danielle even looked kind of impressed. I saw Adam getting it to it too, before Chase snapped him out of it. Before I could question his motive, he grabbed my hand giving it a small squeeze to reassure me on where he stands. The song ends and the crowd cheers for Leo.

"All right, everybody, give it up for my Aunt Janice and her book club!" Leo said, explaining how he knew the dancers.

"That was awesome!" Danielle gushed to Leo.

"Oh, it's just a little something for the kids." He said pridefully.

"Shall we?" She offered Leo her hand.

"Consider it shall." Leo took her hand for the slow dance.

"Hey, I'd love to dance but I think I better go help Bree out." I said to Chase as I pointed to stumbling Bree trying to dance with Ethan. I gave his arm a squeeze as I left to help Bree.

"Oh hey Maddie!" Bree said as I came over to her and Ethan.

"Hey, come on we're gonna fix this." I said gesturing to her heels. I dragged Bree to my locker with her tripping on every other step.

"How are you gonna fix this? These shoes are death traps." Bree asked, I opened my locker.

"Once I knew you were going with Tasha's plan, I knew you'd need a plan b. So I brought these for you." I grabbed a pair of black wedges handing them to her. "As someone who wears heels to fight crime I know that you have to start small and you've never worn heels before."

"You're a lifesaver Maddie! Thank you so much." She said while switching out the shoes. We went back to the gym and she went back to Ethan walking with much more grace.

...

"The song is over. Hello? Leo?" Danielle said to Leo who was leaning against her.

"Oh. Sorry. You smelled so good, I kind of passed out." Leo answered.

Danielle looks at Adam and Chase, the two of them arguing on the bench "What is up with your weird friends? You'd think this was their first dance." She commented.

"Actually... it is." Leo defended.

"Ah. Homeschooled, huh?" She assumed.

"You have no idea." Leo said with a tone that went over her head.

"So, wanna go get some punch?" she said not a care for Adam or Chase.

"You know what? I gotta go. Hey, guys! What's up?" He left Danielle, going to his brothers.

"You already won, Leo. Do you have to rub our noses in it?" Chase answered pretending to be upset about the whole Danielle situation.

"I wanted to apologize. I'd never do something like this to my friends, but... You guys aren't my friends." Leo started, please let this be going somewhere.

"Leo, "FIY," this is the worst apology ever." Adam said for everyone.

"I'm saying you're not my friends because you're my brothers." He continued.

"Aww! Yeah, you're like the brother I never had." Adam replied, gaining a look from Chase.

"Adam, you have a brother." He said offended.

"No, I know. I said like the one I didn't have." He responded innocently.

"You know, Leo, you're not the only one who should apologize. We've all been jerks." Chase started.

"Nah! You know what? Let's never let a girl come between us again." Leo offered.

"Deal." Adam and Chase agreed.

"Starting tomorrow." Leo said as a pretty girl walked by, Adam and Leo proceeded to run after her. I just walked up to Chase.

"I'm proud of you." I told him, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Leo came up to us.

"Hey come on time to dance." He said, pulling us to the dance floor.

"Cue it up, G!" Leo called.

The music started and we all had pairs of shades like Leo's when we started with the choreography and we all did our own dances. We had fun and danced for hours.

A/N: It's not the best ending but Mace is happing people! Will they keep the secret? Don't miss chapter 5.
