Authors Note: I think that was my favorite cliffhanger so far. It's so fun writing these chapters! Though sometimes I just don't have much time to make them *sigh*. I usually work on them at night when I have time. So, when I am working on them, I'm writing as fast as I can, even if I have a sssssuuuuuupppppeeeeerrrrr ssssslllloooowwww brain.
Okay, this is Sophie's POV again! This story was supposed to be mainly Keefe's POV, but I got attached to doing Sophie's POV. Plus, I have something big coming up in this chapter!
Thanks again to everyone who commented/followed! It really motivates me to keep on writing without it getting boring and depressing.
Remember that I'm open to any suggestions for future chapters!
Enjoy!
"Alright, what do you need?" Sophie rolled her eyes as Keefe and she walked away from Sandor and Ro. She tried to stay serious, but she was mentally breaking down. Keefe knew she was acting weird around Fitz.
"What's wrong, Foster?" He asked gently grabbing both of her hands holding them in his. "And please don't say nothing."
Sophie was not about to tell Keefe she felt like breaking up with Fitz. She needed an actual reason to break up with him. She forced her eyes at the ground not making eye contact with him.
"Did Fitz do something to you? Did he hurt you?" He asked when she refused to say anything.
"No, he did nothing," She responded. "I'm fine. You shouldn't be concerned."
He gave her the I'm-not-convinced look and sighed. "I hope you'll tell me when you're ready, Sophie."
He never called her by her first name before, but she was not thinking about that. He was being serious. He worried about her. It actually felt nice that someone was there for her, even if she held secrets back from them.
He leaned in and wrapped his arms around her, comforting her. She hugged him back, feeling peace.
Recently, being around Keefe had made her feel weird. She didn't even know how to describe the feeling, but it wasn't bad. In fact, she might've even liked it. Did she like Keefe? It couldn't be. Why now? Why when she finally gets a boyfriend, she likes someone else? But did she really like Keefe?
She noticed she was still hugging him and awkwardly pulled away.
"Well, I seriously got to go now or Grady's going to be mad," she quickly said. "See ya."
"Bye, Foster."
Havenfield looked as beautiful as always. The panakes tree danced in the wind, the outstanding ocean view reflected the sun's light, and Grady and Edaline welcomed her home. She went to her room and unpacked her clothing. Coming downstairs she saw Grady holding a big bucket of orange jelly-like sludge. She had never seen it before, but the smell was awful. The stench smelled like rotten eggs mixed with spoiled meat.
"Ready to feed Verdi?" Grady smiled.
"I wish," she complained.
The three of them walked into Verdi's cage. While Edaline and Sophie tried holding down Verdi, Grady got closer and closer with the food. The stubborn T-rex kept thrashing making the work ten times harder. Finally, Grady was able to scoop some of the food into Verdi's mouth. She stopped thrashing and sniffed the food, gobbling it all up.
"Only if she would try it before making a big fuss," Edaline sighed.
"Agreed," Grady and Sophie said at the same time.
Sophie ran up to her room to wash off the T-rex stench. She pulled her moonlark necklace off accidentally dropping it on the hard, marble floor of her bathroom. Crack!
Shoot! Fitz is gonna kill me.
It seemed totally unexpected that the necklace would break. It was fragile, but it did not seem like it would shatter in one fall. She looked closer looking at something in the middle of the necklace. What was hidden in the moonlark looked like a small listening device. Sophie studied it a little more until she was sure of what it was.
She was mad. Fitz had been listening to her the whole time. She could not believe Fitz would ever do something like that to her. Did he even think about her when he got her the gift? He just wanted to hear all her conversations for no reason. He wasn't powerful enough to read her thoughts from certain places, so he might as well put a listening device in her necklace! This was it. She was ending this once and for all. She wasn't even going to wait another day.
She light leaped to Everglen, hoping Fitz was there so she could smack him. When she knocked on the big doors, Biana answered.
"Oh hey, what are you doing here?" She asked.
"I need to see Fitz," Sophie said urgently. "Is he in his room?"
Biana nodded.
Sophie stormed upstairs to Fitz's room and thrust open the door without even knocking.
